Title: Would You Pay for Odd Jobs With Bitcoin?
Post by: OddJobsForBitcoin on November 19, 2019, 11:51:55 PM
An unemployed dude comes to your house to ask for off jobs, say to throw away your thrash and mow the lawn. You had no cash but he owns a bitcoin wallet and asks to be paid in bitcoins. Would you pay in bitcoin?

Yes, what's wrong in it. If the person who came for work requested me to pay in terms of bitcoin knowing that I've bitcoin surely I'll pay in terms of bitcoin. These days people are much advanced in their activities, so a person who is committed to off jobs having a bitcoin wallet and getting pay in terms of bitcoin is nothing a big thing in the growing technology dependent world.

Sounds like teenager idea for earning money/bitcoin.
I wouldn't pay for such services no matter in what form but if i would need to pay for such service bitcoin would be quite easy to pay with.
Smartphone BTC ftw if not too much. Smartphones are not secure enough.

In the first place, for a work like that, I will not hire anyone to do the work for me if I currently don't have money on hand.

And I just want to save him from a hassle way of converting BTC into fiat. The fact that he is accepting a work like that means he is using BTC as a source of income so much better to have a fiat payment for that kind of work.

Anyhow if he is really an BTC enthusiast and pushed for a BTC payment instead, still I will only deal with fiat - hand to hand.

Cleaning trash and mowing the lawn just requires 2 to 3 hours or maybe less. Therefore, the payment should just be between $5-10 or something along that amount + free meals and snacks. With bitcoin, we will pay fees for that small amount. Might still considerably cheaper to anyone but fees are fees.

It's unusual for a person nowadays that involved in bitcoin or crypto that don't have at least $20 in their pocket. Better give them a cold fiat after the work is done.

Well, if a random person came to my house and asked to perform some odd jobs, I probably just wouldn't hire him to do anything, no matter what payment method he was after - just not worth the risk.

If there where some big operation though, where some builder or plumber called wanting to be paid in Bitcoin, I wouldn't mind at all (if we assume we they get fair rates).

More adoption for everyone!

I wont because I value my bitcoin and if the unemployed guy willing to accept bitcoin, I should also save that money for a good future. I'd rather paid him thru fund transfer with fiat money but not my bitcoin. We know the value of bitcoin has increasing, and his service might be more expensive for the next time he render his service. Bitcoin are more store on a store value for some people and to me, it would be hard to spend your bitcoin at a cheaper value.

It is a matter of preference over the situation on hand. I guess we are all different on dealing with things. If the guy has offered to receive the payment in btc for whatever his reasons are, then I'll gladly give what I owe as long as I have btc also in my wallet. That is if I am using my own btc core wallet because if it will incur significant fees for transfer, I'll just pay him in fiat.  :P

If i have no choice then why not, for sure its a just a small amount of service and around $20 or below and it will not affect much of my bitcoin. I can use bitcoin for any payment transactions as much is reasonable and every deserve to have their own bitcoin, he can have more if he works a lot BTC is for everyone!  :)

I see no problem in paying with bitcoin, if that is convenient to you.
Personally, I always like to pay for stuff using bitcoin.

I am very attached to my bitcoins and I would not sell them easily. Buying something with them seems easier for me.

If i have no money on me at that moment i would definitely wait till the next day as i would not pay for such a job in bitcoins. Anyway, in my country we have a company that collects the trash bins so no need of this dude and i do the mowing myself hence i get to keep my bitcoins whiles waiting for the upcoming bull run.

Yes, sure, I don't have any problem if I'll pay him using bitcoin or cash. I meant it's gonna be cool to hear that from him, cause no one is asking for bitcoin when they did a job to be honest. I may give him an extra if I liked him and I liked his work. Nothing wrong with giving bitcoin though.

In my opinion, I will not do it because the bitcoin market price was so volatile and it could increase its market price in just a small price.
I think even if the market price value of bitcoin was dump that time paying bitcoin is still not a good practices because bitcoin was still not implemented as a currency but as an investment as we know nothing regulates bitcoin meaning there is no central authority controlling and regulating the bitcoin , We don't even know if it is possible to regulate bitcoin and if we cant regulate bitcoin we cannot make it to its purpose and it is very difficult if we are going to have a single currency that every country could use.
You should just hold your bitcoin instead of using it as payment as bitcoin is still not implemented.

Never do it when paying An unemployed using bitcoin or other crypto assets, although you don't have enough money better sell your assets and use cash money for pay them, we know how bitcoin and altcoin assets can increase higher price when price up, but after paying them with bitcoin and altcoin we have disappointed when price up, if paying cash money we got much profit than have use bitcoin assets.

there is nothing wrong about paying bitcoin because it is the same value you will receive, I like your idea because with just a simple task you can do you are offering a bitcoin payment method in exchange on your task because you are creating an awareness to a household that they can be part of this industry.

If he has one and you had one, then I don't really see anything that would discourage you to pay with BTC. However, it's quite unlikely for a jobless man to have a Bitcoin wallet. Although it's pretty easy, a man like that would have little to no literacy to such modernized things. And if he does have one, then he pretty much have knowledge on how to earn in cryptocurrencies.

for me personally if someone then comes to my house who wants to work at home, I would rather pay with cash than pay with bitcoin because we know that if we pay craftsmen with bitcoin, it will be charged when making a transaction and will definitely take a little time compared to cash we can immediately take it in our pockets and then we can pay workers as fast as possible.

Definitely... Bitcoin is described as a digital currency which has all the qualities of physical fiat currency with additional features. I will not mind paying for everything with Bitcoin. It is much easier and simple to make payment using Bitcoin. All you need is the receivers Bitcoin wallet address and you are set to make the payment. But I don't really see anything wrong with payment someone with Bitcoin for off jobs. Once you need to make a payment transaction, there is no wrong with using Bitcoin to pay the person so far as the person accepts Bitcoin.

Nothing wrong with it, bitcoin was created as alternate cash. I actually like to try paying direct bitcoin qhen I go shopping in our country, however, no merchant here accepts bitcoin yet. In time I guess we can use bitcoin anywhere even like your example or paying restaurant bills, tips, fare or any daily routine we do we can integrate crypto and soon will.  Be threating bitcoin as a normal means for transaction.

yes I agree with you better pay it directly with fiat money. because what he does is not a heavy work that drains the mind or energy. and if we pay with bitcoin then the payment of bitcoin and the transfer fee is the same. better to directly use fiat money we don't need to add transfer fees.
and I think collecting bitcoin in such a way is not an effective way to better follow the faucet or work on bounty projects and signature campaigns that pay for using bitcoin.

Why not, no problem at all and I will be glad that I will be paying him with Bitcoin, and might hire him regularly if decides to accept Bitcoin as payment for every work, here in our place I'm really looking for people to work for me that accepts Bitcoin, it encourages the promotion of Bitcoin, how I wish there is a local marketplace here that deals with Bitcoin payment, maybe in the future we will have one in every city.

I will use bitcoin as a payment option for all kinda off job in as much that the person working for me is willing to accept it. I see nothing wrong with paying someone with bitcoin for an off job.  Using bitcoin as the payment option is no different from using fiat currency to pay people for their services they provide you. It is only people who don't understand the use and purpose of bitcoin will have a problem with paying off jobs with Bitcoin.

Well the dude worked for it. And in part, I should be to blame for not having any cash to pay him with. I think it's just right to pay him with whatever means available for his services. If he has a BTC wallet, then of course I'd send the amount in BTC right away if he prefers to. I don't see anything wrong with that both on my end and his end.

The job doesn't require much skills, knowledge, or even physical work so I don't think paying with bitcoin is the best way. Since he owns a bitcoin wallet, it means that he's well aware of bitcoin and crypto so he can just work with crypto. there's a lot of job offered here on the internet which he can earn more than throwing trash and such... He's unemployed not a beggar. He can't just be contended with that kind of job, so why wouldn't he just look for job on the internet? So rather than letting him do that job and paying him with bitcoin, I'll just tell him to work.

If I this were to be true, I'd rather pay him in cash than using my own BTCs.

To be honest, I would borrow cash from my friends or my wife but I would never touch my BTCs since they are saved for investment purposes or for long-term holding. But if the situation requires me to use my BTCs (e.g. emergency purposes- medical bills, obligations, etc.) then I would not hesitate to use them for my family.

I treat my BTCs as my assets for long-term since their value will realize overtime. Like in stocks, I always have the choice to sell them for cash but this would defeat the purpose of investing it for long term.

You're just using bitcoin as payment and there is nothing wrong with that. It is not like you're giving your wallet or any confidential information to him.

have you read my whole post?havent i mentioned the risks we may encounter?random person will knock your door and asked for a job and seek for bitcoin payments?better look for the post first before posting nonsense because i clearly says my reasons.

Why not? I have given donations to street artists with a Bitcoin QR code posted online and that is no different to people willing to do actual work to earn bitcoins. I have a 80/20 rule with Bitcoin, where I use 20% of all the coins I buy and hoard 80%. That 20% goes to everything from food to donations to charity, where there are Bitcoin accepted.  ;)

Imagine what would happen if that unemployed guy went out there and told all his friends that people are willing to pay for work with bitcoins.

Why not? I like to use bitcoin as payment, this is the easiness of technology. even I hope I don't carry fiat anywhere, and only have a bitcoin wallet to pay for everything. because in my country this is very rare, especially bitcoin is not allowed to be used as payment, quite sad, even though bitcoin can make it easier.

At first, I have to make selections that person very carefully if that odd job really need for my own interest, After that, I have to scrutinize that person very carefully because of a strange person is not comfortable to me, after that I have to negotiate about the payment method, but if I don't have any money then I wouldn't go to work anything, Because I'm not going to spend my Bitcoin for a daily purpose when the price of Bitcoin is low, So the price is also a good fact in this issue, Not only that but also Bitcoin is very essential to me because it's my only way to make money. That's why in a random odd job, I usually not spend Bitcoin until in an urgent case.

I don't think to mow the lawn, throwing trash, and other chores stuff would be readily accepting payment in BTC unless you have shared it to them. It's better to cash out your BTC instead of hassling them. Some people don't have any exposure to any technology, and they might take it as a scam, you will never know. It would depend on the person. I think there are already applications to have people do it for you. At least here in my country, there are applications to have that, but mostly, it's being done by referral on who would clean on that specific day. Maybe you could start that application and maybe use BTC as a payment method, which would be cool.

The same goes here, as the OP said, he had no cash so he also needs to withdraw and pay additional fees to do that, then why not directly pay the dude. I also prefer to not carry fiat all the time, whether I use CC, Debit or crypto as my payment is fine and less hassle for me.

That is the saddest part of some countries who do not allow the usage of bitcoin, though it will help every people in many ways, there are still some countries that do not allow and continue to avoid adopting it.

I've seen threads of people willing to do odd jobs for Bitcoin but I highly doubt the labor market is ready for it. General laborers are not the type of people that are going to be well versed in crypto currency enough to accept it. That's not to say the base doesn't exist. I would be fine with paying out BTC for odd jobs but I know well it's not going to be easy trying to find someone to accept anything other than cash.

On that note, people willing to do odd jobs are usually the type of people that need money instantaneously. They're not the type of people that are going to want to deal with exchanges, fees, delays, ect. to get their funds.

It depends, maybe if you will just do it for part time because you wanted to earn Bitcoin without investing your own fund then it will be okay. There's risk factor if laborer will get wages thru cryptocurrency as it is volatile and the value of it differs from time to time, so it is not really advisable unless if you are just freelancer online, that you are just doing work for Bitcoin in a part time basis.

That's a very easy job to do so I don't think paying with Bitcoins is still justifiable. We all know how hard it is to earn Bitcoin these days so I think it will only be a big loss if we'll pay that kind of job with Bitcoin. If we could exert and effort and do that simple job then we don't have to spend our crypto earnings. I would prefer paying cash if I wouldn't get any choice.

No, I won't be paying in Bitcoin. I will just offer him some foods and drinks instead while relaxing in the comfort of my home so we can also have a chat about his experience with Bitcoin so far. I would then have a good story to tell on this forum about an unemployed guy whom I meet in my home and who happens to be a Bitcoiner too. The reason I am not paying in Bitcoin is that I am saving all the BTC I have just in case the "bull run" will really be coming next year. People are holding these days with Bitcoin becoming the most-known speculative investment vehicle in our modern and high-tech world.

No I prefer to pay in fiat. I accumulated my btc through hard work and using my spare money in fiat so it will be hard for me to use it as payment for someone's job because im saving it for future.

If ever I dont have money on hand then I will refuse to let him work. There's no need to hire someone for a simple job I know I can do it by myself.

I will, why not.
You are asking it in a bitcoin forum. You will get a lot of yes here.

I might be a hodler but it doesn't mean I will not use it.
That is the purpose of bitcoin, to be a currency. Something which could be paid to and from.
If you have other questions then you could edit your first post.

Dude this is just a survey question about whether you will pay BTC or not for a simple job. Your first statement is enough. The other statement is out of the context for this question.  ;)
But why not? You can buy back bitcoin again once you have cash. That will be an awesome opportunity to use bitcoin for daily life just like a guy who pay thousand of bitcoin for a box of pizza.

Yes of of course, a simple and small transaction like that could help bitcoin network a lot, keeps it running all the time with all the micro transactions in the world. I will only do it when I don't have a cash on me, well I do have cash most of the time.

Usually I will pay with lunch or dinner, if I don't have cash, because if I pay for bitcoin it seems a bit unsafe because I'm a person who always has to maintain the privacy of bitcoin ownership, so maybe I can only feed him or borrow cash to people close to me

Yes, if I have a lot of bitcoin, I will pay with bitcoin if he has a bitcoin wallet and the payment I will pay with bitcoin depends on how many hours, lots and area of grass he cuts.
because he asks for payment for bitcoin is not fiat and in my opinion it doesn't hurt because I appreciate it because he knows bitcoin and of course he's a bitcoiner.

yes I would be very happy if bitcoin can be used for payments anywhere, because I still rarely use bitcoin as a payment in the real world. a good choice for the employee, wanting to receive money with bitcoin, it could be a good investment for him in the future.

Technically yes, but this would not be true for everyone. I mean those people who are buying Cryptocurrencies through fiat would never do such a thing as crypto for them is Investment. I think it's convenient only for those people who earn in Cryptocurrencies and then spend them in Cryptocurrencies because it saves them from an additional step of redeeming them into fiat.

I might.
But if the transaction fee will be larger than what I will pay for then it would be better off with cash. Right?
Also, that might happen since the worker would want the bitcoin to reflect already in his account before he will go.
So that means taking the fee to a higher price to make it faster.

But if we are talking about a larger price then I might really do it, also just for fun.
I love hoarding more bitcoins but there is a moment that we also want to spend it to something.

Definitely not. I wouldn't pay bitcoin for odds jobs unless I don't have any physical cash with me. Since I prefered btc as an investment and I am a holder, I am not comfortable to pay btc especially when the market is in bearish. Well, the fees are high so I preferred to pay in fiat.

But I am an open minded person, so I think it always depends in  a case to case basis.

I think it will be happen when whole world will use it as a currency .I will not pay him to btc cause btc is a valuable coin and i don't want to exchange it for low amount .I always have a level to expense it .

Yeah, why not? Especially that job isn't paying too much so definitely I could go for it and treat it as a little help.
However, I'll tell him that the transaction could take long as I'll be putting the fee to lowest.  ;D
Haha just kidding but seriously hope he wouldn't complain though.

Does it make sense if he wants to be paid using Bitcoin while his job just throwing trash and mow the lawn?? :-\ hmmm, maybe as long as I have Bitcoin it doesn't matter. Because for me,  it's a bit uncomfortable if I have to pay using Bitcoin when I don't have Bitcoin. Especially if the work is only mowing the lawn, then I think it is better to give cash. ;D

There are too many plot-holes in this question, a guy just shows up and asks me for a job, ok then fine, perhaps we can work out an arrangement of some kind, I'm not a business man or anything but do believe in helping people out. The part which scares me is the fact that the guy knows I have Bitcoin  :o, or at least he assumes I do. What if I didn't know about Bitcoin, i'd probably inquire with him about what it is exactly, but that would lessen his chances of getting the job if he needs to explain how I'm supposed to pay him, no? He should be thankful to be offered a job, not be bold enough to demand a certain kind of special payment that require one to learn, taking time and energy to do so. Most people would turn him away if they weren't up to date with Blockchain  & Cryptocurrency technology. They'd say what about being paid in cash?

I will use bitcoin as a payment option for all kinda off job in as much that the person working for me is willing to accept it. I see nothing wrong with paying someone with bitcoin for an off job.  Using bitcoin as the payment option is no different from using fiat currency to pay people for their services they provide you. It is only people who don't understand the use and purpose of bitcoin will have a problem with paying off jobs with Bitcoin.
Indeed because they also have some value and I think that it be good because it is more convenient for them but we have different levels of perception, some of you may think that it is not worth it to pay in bitcoin but isn't that a good opportunity to make people analyze the real value of a digital currency. I think i'll do it too as long as he did his job pretty well then we will not have any problem.

We can eventually do it once the market felt better, government accepts it and when people are knowledgeable on how it works. I'm paying my friends sometimes with btc when I ask some favor or do a sideline job for me with BTC, though they don't trade they just accept it and they plans to keep it till they see it increase in value as long as they don't be needing an extra money. There's no problem in paying with bitcoin as long both parties accepts the method.

Well, it is logical that I have to pay since I accepted him to do a job for me, and yes, I do not mind paying the guy with Bitcoin.

Of course not!... I can answer with no doubt)))) I would pay may to a friend of mine for something in case I would not have money to pay for. But I would do it only in case my friend understand that the amount in Bitcoin today may appear to be because of the price flactuation quite another amount tomorrow or in some days. In order not to face such a problem that my friend will found out it and come to me in order to say that I am a fraud... or that he list a lot and now regret about our deal...

Probably not because Bitcoin is now expensive unlike before. Probably I'll use my altcoins to pay him, I am pretty sure that he has a wallet for altcoins since he knew about Bitcoin then perhaps he had knowledge towards other cryptocurrencies. Besides, I consider Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as an asset, not a regular currency due to the fact that they are not stable.

I will say "no" firmly. This relates to my principle, Bitcoin is more effective as an investment tool than as a payment tool. I do not want to make it in vain, moreover, there is still a more effective fiat for payment. Even though the scenario that the OP created doesn't have a fiat, I will definitely try anyway. Come on, we certainly have priorities, determine which is effective.

I'm okay with that.. I will agree if there are employees who ask for a salary with a payment of Bitcoin, but the rate must be dollars.  for example, I pay him/her $400 /month but I pay his salary with Bitcoin.  Bitcoin prices change fast, I just don't want him to get more or less value when exchanged to fiat if I pay with Bitcoin.

As bitcoin enthusiasts, you already understand what is Bitcoin. If someone offers but doesn't know what is Bitcoin, of course, they might be refuse the offer. Well, I say yes. But at the same value of the amount should going to pay. For example, if my salary was $50 then the value of bitcoin should into that amount. No one will refuse even how bitcoin being volatile if the receiver is also crypto enthusiasts too. I will accept the offer and for me, it the same value with cash/fiat.

I would doubt at first because that was so strange and unexpected, someone will offer you to throw your trash in exchange for bitcoin... But if in that simple way, I can help someone even with a small action, then I will accept it and will pay him with bitcoin. If I can see that he's in need of some money. But my other mind says, I might doubt him because he knew something about it but he has no money. I might think of him as someone trying to hypnotise me just to get my bitcoin. I dunno.

I am quite happy to see people use this technology for their needs. so, if this happens to me, as long as the costs are reasonable, I will still pay for it. but I think that almost everyone who has a bitcoin wallet works in their own home  ;D

I don't really see anything wrong with that, as long as I have the money/Bitcoin in my wallet, I would pay him with it. Unless I'm saving the money in my Bitcoin for something else, but still that wouldn't be a problem because I can easily fund my Bitcoin wallet by using my bank debit card and it's really fast.

So, if anyone should ask me to make payment to them with Bitcoin, I would for sure, also depending on how they ask. I have only done that once, sent payment to someone through Bitcoin after he completed a little offline task for me. He first asked if I make use of bitcoin and whether I can pay with that and I replied yes and asked for his address.

Why not? The sole aim of Bitcoin creation is to be spent as currency and not just to hold it. Why many of us are holding Bitcoin is because of the gain there. Bitcoin should be treated as a money that it is.
So far, the guy knows about Bitcoin and how and where to spend it. I will pay him with that.

Always. I live in a house and I know how much work you have to put in to keep everything tidy and working. If a young guy came to me I'd find him a ton of little things to do like pressure washing my cars, mowing the lawn, gathering leaves.
I'd like to work for BTC and I'd be willing to pay others in BTC. Honestly, I'd be so happy that a worker wants to be paid in BTC that I'd even give him a bonus for supporting my favourite crypto.
