Title: Binance seems to know my SSN? Post by: gristlelump on November 21, 2019, 06:55:56 AM I tried to open an account on Binance in order to transfer coins off Poloniex. Obviously they need a U.S. SSN to meet U.S regulations. I wanted to see if I could do it without giving them my actual SSN and entered it in one digit off at the end XXX-XX-XXX?. The attempt failed and they wouldn't establish an account. I received a message that stated that the SSN entered did not match my name entered. My question is how the hell do they know my name and SSN do not match?

That being said, next to the usage of an API, like TheNewAnon135246 posted, it's also possible parts of your SSN have to come from a list of codes, or some characters might be illegal, or a checksum might have been implemented. For example, it's possible part of your SSN has to be a legal code of your place of birth? Maybe part of the SSN has to match your bithdate? Maybe part of the SSN codes for your gender? Maybe you can't use the number 0, because people might confuse it for a capital o? Maybe the last number is a checksum? Maybe you randomly picked a dummy SSN that's known to be a dummy number? Anyways, it's possible that by changing just one number, you created a SSN that's simply invalid? Title: Re: Binance seems to know my SSN? Post by: leea-1334 on November 21, 2019, 12:39:57 PM Yes, this is a well known thing for most legitimate sites who can have access into the SSN system to prevent fraud. SSN are all linked to names and birthdates so the only way you can go around it is either to use someone else's SSN (but you run into problems to verify because you have to verify with that SSN identity).

You must have thought they don't have a database in which they would confirm the details you provided for them in other to be sure its genuine and you are who you claimed to be? If you can go about it and they open your account and you are able to carry out your transactions, then it defeats the entire purpose of KYC and also spoil the market for those who buy other people identity because it won't matter if I can just formulate a number and it would match with any name I give them. The point is every details you give is going to a central database that companies with the right approval have access to. |
