Title: Have you ever purchased bitcoins using eBay?
Post by: davis196 on November 25, 2019, 08:08:16 AM
I was browsing eBay and I see many sellers, who are selling bitcoin and altcoins.
I thought that eBay isn't crypto friendly, but the sellers, who are selling 24-hour btc mining contracts.
The fees are ridiculous. To buy 9USD worth of BTC,you have to pay 14USD via paypal.
It's weird that those people actually have sales.

It is ridiculous to have $ 9 BTC and have to pay $ 14 via paypal to get $ 5 profit about 50% ++ to convert paypal value to bitcoin

Probably just taking advantage of people who don't know better.

As for the mining contracts, do you mind linking one? A 24-hour mining contract sounds like a complete scam.

If you're ever going to purchase BTC using PayPal or something, I'd suggest you to have a look at the Currency Exchange section. Other places (like eBay) or other websites that provide exchange between fiat and cryptos take a huge amount of commission. You'll probably find someone with better rates here.

I have listened and learned a lot when buying Bitcoin through this medium, but I found the fee is higher than buying on regular exchanges, I do not understand what they do for this fee, I do not want to buy through that.

Yeah, there are pretty stupid and outrageous fees when you try to use bitcoin, it just seems like them trying to take advantage of people who use ebay mostly, and then tricking them into buying BTC for crazy prices.

Ebay is mostly used for a lot of cas coins, there are often scammers on there that will try and offer loaded coins (so the BTC in the coin hasn't been redeemed, as well as all of it's forks), while it's actually been redeemed, the marketplace is pretty cut-throat there.

I thought that eBay isn't crypto friendly.

That's right, ebay is basically an online site for buying and selling equipment for daily needs, not for buying bitcoin or other altcoins.
If you want to buy bitcoin you don't have to go through ebay, you better explore other sites that are safer and more popular for crypto users to avoid things that cause harm.

I haven't tried it but it doesn't make sense at all. Ebay is not the best place to sell your bitcoins, but we don't know the rational of behind those individuals. I guess they just wanted to get a sell and took off.

Or probably they think the risk is better off selling in Ebay and their could trap "newbies" on buying BTC at $14 via paypal.

I don't see the reason why would one would buy from eBay an asset/currency that is being traded on a multitude of more or less legitimate exchanges. Binance let's you buy with credit & debit cards nowadays if I am not mistaken and there are literally myriods of trading platforms pretty much for every country in this world.  So why would one buy from eBay especially at a higher rate is beyond my understanding..

Paxful and Localbitcoins is the best place to BTC using paypal without hassle, Just review the trust rating first of the seller before you send payment. Another place is the Currency Exchange of this forum.
Just take note to never deal to newbie account and always look for the trust score of the user that you want to deal with, If possible, Hire escrow for your transaction to have extra protection to your money.

First and foremost, why will someone waste such money for such amount of Bitcoin whiles there are good platforms providing a 1:1 ratio in terms of the pricing and the value of bitcoin in dollars.  personally, I will never go in for such business of paying more than I will be recieving .

Chances it's a scam is high and secondly, the profit that will be made from the deal if assuming it's a legit seller is too much. Only a person without experience would think the fee is a normal thing and would proceed to pay.
Better to get your BTC from Coinbase or Paxful.

This is clearly fooling newbies and doesn't have much idea on bitcoin, where to buy and how much it is in the real price.
I never use eBay since we can buy directly on exchange or using an ATM machine for buying Bitcoin that is very quick and easy.
This will add dirt of Bitcoin's image because there are some people taking advantage of those naive people who just wanted to invest bitcoin and gain profit. But the fact they are killing on these sellers.

I think people who sell on eBay will definitely want to make a profit, and sell bitcoin prices at any price in my opinion is legitimate, as long as neither side feels disadvantaged, everyone has a different character to buy something, there are those who prioritize low prices, there are those who prioritize convenience, and some who prioritize trust.

After searching eBay they really did offer a bitcoin mining contract, I don't know if how is it supposed to work but I guess it looks very fishy to me, and if my computation is correct they are selling this Mining contract for $1.49 USD that will at least get 0.0001 estimated Bitcoin but right now the price of $1.49 USD will be at 0.00021 BTC which is very nerving because if you bought this mining contract the free will be an instant 0.00011 BTC I don't know the estimation will be if you bought the contract, But for me it is very cautious to get one in my opinion.

A sucker is born every day.  ::)  A mining contract is part of the Cloud mining/Ponzi schemes that are going around and many people see the Bitcoin

symbol and think they are actually buying bitcoins.  >:(  It is sad how these scams are flourishing on popular eCommerce websites like this. As a

Bitcoin community, we should stand together and report scams like this to protect the gullible people from themselves or they will get scammed and

subsequently blame the technology again.  ::)

basically eBay is not a place to buy bitcoin. quite ridiculous when buying $ 9 USD bitcoin at a price of $ 14 PayPal. yeah, things like this are out there a lot. people who take advantage of a person's ignorance and try to trap him.
I suggest for those who want to buy bitcoin, buy at a trusted exchanger at the right price.

I've never bought crypto on an online shop and I think no one would ever buy from that seller,
People could always buy from exchange and it is so easy and the worst part on online shop is there are some scammers so I would rather buy directly at an exchange rather than online shops.

"Seems legit". If seriuos, I won't recommend buying using eBay. You just have no guarantee that you will receive your crypto.

Probably just taking advantage of people who don't know better.
That's exactly it, and it's smart on the sellers' part to list crypto on ebay.  And they have to mark up the price quite a bit just to break even, since it isn't cheap at all to sell anything there.  Ebay takes a cut, paypal takes another cut and it's really hard to make money nowadays.

But no, I've never bought any crypto there and never would.  I also thought ebay wasn't supportive of bitcoin, but I have seen all those auctions listing it for sale.  I would imagine that these offerings are legitimate, since ebay always sides with the buyer and if the bitcoin didn't get delivered the purchaser could easily do a chargeback.  Scammers probably take advantage of that fact as well, which might account for that markup.

Probably just taking advantage of people who don't know better.
Except bitcoin buyers generally tend to know what they're buying and *shouldn't* be looking to ebay as a first choice option.  I'm not sure what kind of bitcoin buyers ebay attracts, but I would probably agree they're not experts and are probably newcomers to crypto.

Ebey is a trading platform with millions of users. Some people do not want to delve into the search for other options for buying cryptocurrency, it is easier for them to take advantage of such options that Ebay gives, so why not?  ;D

It is better to buy bitcoin at any trusted exchange than to but  in eBay. Identifying the risks are important so you should aware tot he risks that you will take if you will biy bitcoins in eBay. Always remember there are now many scammers and we should be careful.

I did in 2013. It went fine. Then I got raped but not for much. My fault. I wouldn't do it again and Ebay do all they can to get rid of it and I can't blame them. There are lots of sellers on there who know how clueless people are and I remember prices of 10-100x more than the market price on there.

Loads of people never go any further than Ebay or Amazon and sellers know that. Anything hyped can go for way more than you get elsewhere and crypto is no exception.

I think trusted if you use bitcoin as your purchase transaction on eBay, you can buy anything there and use bitcoin as currency payment, I look many people use PayPal as their payment transaction but easy and faster if you use bitcoin as your currency on eBay.

I know eBay as buying and selling things, never thought that it involves cryptocurrency too. I never experienced buying there as we have a local app here that supports Bitcoins and other popular altcoins in the market. Anyway, the prices mentioned in the comments are a little high, might as well find a local app and buy it from there. Those eBay sellers are probably just taking advantage of the people who are new to the cryptocurrency.

Lol why won't they have sales when there are people who don't know anything about cryptocurrency? There are lots of people that don't know where to buy Bitcoin, especially the newbies that will be making use of eBay because they feel that using it will be a much safer option and they wouldn't get scammed, and I don't blame them lol, there are lots of scammers out there.

But, even as a newbie I never bought from such, I did my research properly and my first Bitcoin I bought it from Coinbase. If I saw such offer back then I don't think I would buy it, how am I even sure that I would recover those? I can't make such mistakes. Funny thing is, those that are buying from these eBay sellers will see it as a stupid mistake when they get to know about cryptocurrency the more.

I think Ebay thought of it as taking money, or cryptocurrencies. It is already known that Ebay has a trading platform with over millions of users, and these people may not know how big the fee really is, if anyone with little knowledge of bitcoin would just laugh at that fee.
But from reliable information I know that it's actually going well, Ebay has done it great for its profit.

I am not using eBay to purchase anything for a long time but i have see ASIC machine sales in the past, are they selling the coins or are they dealing with hardware and collecting crypto as payment, i am not sure what you mean by 24 hours bitcoin mining contracts, you will get to have a virtual mining set up for a day and how much profit you will be able to make  :-\. Not sure who will be purchasing those as you might get newbies to invest in mining contracts.

It is better to buy bitcoin from the recommended website which we can find in here, or we can use the local exchange to buy directly. Although eBay is a big store online, I fee I am not confident to buy in eBay. But maybe many people used eBay to buy and sell so many things, including bitcoin and they prefer to purchase with eBay because they have an excellent experience to do that in eBay. We can say it's ridiculous, but for them, it's not like that because they trust eBay as a big store online for them.

I don't think anyone would feel comfortable buying BTC or other crypto on eBay obviously. It's highly unsafe and not trusted. I think local bitcoins is a very safer option than eBay. I think it might be for people absolutely new to crypto world because they might not know anything and in hope of buying BTC might get scammed by these people. Who knows you might get a metal bitcoin delivered at your address the very next day :P

There already many exchanges why waste your time? What benefit would using Ebay bring you? I see only problems and headache. Listen to the people here and don't do it.

I have never tried to use the EBay service for trading BTC.... In my opinion it is really too risky to use different dubious resources. I am not doubt in the EBay service at all. It has really high level of trust fron lots of people, it is really very popular and there are lots of directions and goods where people can find interesting offers personally for them. But in my opinion there are lots of unverified sources on EBay like everywhere..so especially the crypto currency topic I prefer using platforms or resources where there are more trust people...

for now $1.49 buy 0.0001btc,let's me calculate profit
bitstamp btc price:$7758,so 0.0001 btc = $0.7758
1.49-0.7758= 0.7142, look at this 47.93% profit.too much
current best transaction fees is 0.00019 btc /kVB
sellers can send btc every 10 orders and only need to pay the transaction fee once.
In this way, the profit is really very large.
EBAY does not allow BTC transactions, so I think the seller will say that it is a mining contract to avoid policies Risk, very smart.

I don't really trust eBay even if the concern isn't about the cryptocurrency payment method. I just don't think they are reputable enough for e-commerce because of the reviews I could watch on youtube and those that I could hear from others. Rather, I am much concerned than instead of using cryptocurrency for payment in our orders on eBay, we should prefer Cash on delivery then check each product that we ordered first so we can ensure that we can really get legit products.

No one should buy BTC on eBay, but not every seller is a greedy. I've sold on eBay several times, except in some cases that disputed charge on paypal, it's always gone smoothly. People are willing to buy at higher prices on Ebay to avoid the inconvenience and security issues of getting them through an exchange. I don't think I'm screwing them by providing that option, and they're certainly not screwing me by buying at 5-15% over market value. As a recommend if you are going to buy BTC on eBay always check the seller's feedback and take screenshots of everything.
