Title: Face-Off v0.1 - The Original Game for Bitcointalk Members
Post by: webtricks on November 26, 2019, 04:31:42 PM
If you liked this game and/or my custom card creator, you can vote for me if you want in 10th anniversary badge voting: Vote for webtricks! (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5204528.0)

This project is an extension of my previous work: BTCTalk Cards (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5202297.0). Did you try creating your own custom card? Do you think your card is strong enough to challenge top 1000 Bitcointalk profiles? Why not find out now...

Play Face-Off Now! (http://btctalk.cards/play)

Face-Off is an interactive gaming experience where player has to input his bitcointalk ID. Once ID is input, a real-time custom card for the player is generated. Then the player has to face different challengers in three-rounds game. The cards of challengers will also be generated in real-time. In first round, popularity of the players will be tested. In second round, one having more reputation will win. Third and final round is about merits. If you got more merits than challenger, you win.

Who are challengers?
Challengers are the three random profiles picked from the top 1000 most recognized profiles on Bitcointalk as per BPIP (https://bpip.org/report.aspx?r=mostrecognized).

Is there a chance that I face myself in clash?
Yeah! If you are one among top 1000 users, there is a chance that you face yourself in game.

Then who will win?
Of-course, you! How can you lose from your own self! In case of equal stats, player will win.

why is this a meta board subject?

I see already ANOTHER thread about this NON meta related junk game on page1 here? why the need for another thread??

merit = meaningless gamed garbage... the final round is based upon this and therefore the game is meaningless and a waste of time.

Time for a redesign.

Reputation = gamed and abused.

Merit = gamed and abused

the only objective metrics are activity and post count,

perhaps REAL ACHIEVEMENTS that made some difference?? how about that? or something that is actually having some kind of substance and meaning?

How about word count? how about time logged in, how about number of projects been involved with /part of ?... how about anything that is not total garbage? may need some new spiders so ask loyce for some assistance

Popularity? in meta?? haha okay.

For latecomers, there is no point to play this game, you are most likely gonna lose.

Aw, looks like I'll have to wait until Bitcointalk's 20th anniversary to stand a chance :(

Since it's an interactive game, you have to follow the directions. When you are redirected to game page, first you have to click 'Proceed to Round 1' and then you have to click 'Reveal Challenger'. Then your stats will be matched with that of your opponent. Once Round 1 ends, you will see 'Proceed to Round 2' button. Click it and so on...

Thanks.

Currently I only pulled some Javascript so that it looks like a game. That's why I named it as version 0.1. However, I have a plan to develop this into a production game where cards will be on blockchain, something similar to Crypto Kitties (thanks to Vod for the idea) and planning to create a whole new MVC framework in order to build a game.

But the response of the members was not convincing. So in order to make sure whether I should continue with the further development or not, I created poll. I request all members here to vote.

I wouldn't be discouraged in the least when it comes to members activity around the holiday season. Most of us are from the states, and we're going to be off of most online things for this time as we're travelling and visting family members across the country -- or even staying overnight at places.

Without a doubt a great game. What other sorts of web activities / web design / web backend work do ya do? Might inquire about those services.

I am not pro-developer. I am rather a finance professional and my work includes financial audits of companies and taxation consultancy. I learn and do coding out of interest. I have learnt various coding languages in last 7 years in my free time and brushing those to professional level since last 5-6 months. So I don't have a portfolio. Also I am not interested to work for someone or take freelancing job. My only motive of learning coding is to develop something original and giving tangible shapes to my ideas.  :)

I like it, keep at it! I played 9 times... won all 9. For future versions, maybe add in a random element so that way the person with the higher "reputation" score doesn't always win. Then maybe add results, with each field at a time, of a round-by-round boxing style match, just to create suspense, or a dramatic flair (even though the end result is previously calculated).

I think suchmoon probably has more bffs than anybody.

I love it ...maybe because I won the fights  ;D

Suggestions:
- add some sound effects
- add some randomization

Glad you guys liked it.

Yeah. In the final version I am planning to add multiple cards. Also cards will turn into asset which each member can hold into his account.  The gameplay will be something like this, although it's not final: 4 players playing in real-time against each other in a multiplayer game. Each player will have 5 cards. Each card has some skills depending on card type which will boost its stats. Out of 5 cards, 3 will be owned by the player whereas 2 will randomly chosen for the player in order to make game random and interesting. Cumulative stats or the series of one-vs-one clash will determine winner.

I think suchmoon probably has more bffs than anybody.

He's such a merit giver, I would doubt if he ain't.  ::)

Suggestions:

There will surely sound effects in final version. What good a game is without sound. I have explain what I am thinking about randomization above.

Just saw this now but this is pretty cool. Weirdly enough our fields of interest actually do cross paths.

I without a doubt respect the not wanting to work someone and just doing this for fun, that's amazing and a change of pace in this day and age.

very nice idea! wanted to play a few rounds right away but i get stuck right after entering my ID.

is it maybe because of a popup ad blocker or disabled java? :-\
I also think the extensions already proposed here are very good.

The "Reveal the Challenger" button contains a trap. And I walked right into it.
You can't click the button all the way through. When you move the mouse over "the" it is not clickable and that's where I tried it the first time ;D
Thanks to your advice, I tried again and I succeeded. Let's see what the 3 encounters have prepared for me.

I got the bug! It's due to the red arrow. I had added 'red arrow' so player can easily find 'Reveal the Challenger' button but the positioning of the arrow is not optimized for all screen sizes. Since the z-index of the arrow is more than the button, it makes the button non-clickable in the area where it is above the button.

You're absolutely right. I have now tested it on another device and there is the part that is not clickable in another place. Well with normal/modern devices the problem does not exist. Today I work on an "alternative device" and the resolution is not suitable.

With Piston Honda (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=391321), sbogovac (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=217199) and Thirdspace (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=338591) I had 3 really strong opponents but was lucky to win 3:0 :)

Jeez! I tried twice but it's the same result. I'm a losser, they are all legendary ranks I can't beat them.

Anyway, is there any function to review your previous opponents?

Just noticed that you can't click the "Reveal the Chalenger" inside the red arrow. Everything's fine to me, thank you for a short intertainment.

I would still find it nice if the following 2 points were implemented.

1) Profile link to your opponent during or after the round so that you can get more details directly.
2) Ranking of the most frequent and "strongest" participants.

And question -> Would it be OK if I did a short translation of your thread/game for the German section?
Find it funny and it will surely bring you some attention for your game :)

Sounds some good and easy additions. Will take an hour or so, I will add these options after reaching home tonight. I have some free time and nothing good to watch on Netflix.

Yeah sure! Go on, no problem.

xhomerx10 you may have defeated me this time, but not for long. >:(

Suggestions:

- If you can put the user's btt avatar as the boxer's tshirt(design it in such way?) and boxing gloves for one person in blue color, and opponent to have red color.

- Have more rounds maybe? :P Comparing post counts, activity count etc as additional rounds. Or like comparing who makes more post in a particular board. Who's more dramatic(more frequent poster in reputation section) and whos a shitposter(frequent poster in altcoin boards :P).

UPDATE: I have added a new feature of Leaderboard. mole0815 suggested to add 'Ranking of the most frequent and "strongest" participants'. After giving it a thought, I have come up with the idea of Leaderboard. You will find Leaderboard on the main page of the game:

https://i.ibb.co/JkgPzdJ/leader.jpg

In order to make in the Leaderboard, you have to play at least one game. Once you play a single game, your username will be entered into the table. Table is sorted by the number of wins. If you win more, you will move up in the ranking. But of course, winning is not in your hand. Chances of winning depends upon how established Bitcointalk member you are.

I have more updates in mind some of which will be added in the game tomorrow. More updates to follow.

Nice suggestions! Consider it done! I will implement both suggestions in next update.

Hey webtricks!

That was really implemented very quickly. Thanks for that. It really has advantages for the community if Netflix and co. have nothing for you at the moment ;D

The announced German translation will follow next week. Including all updates until then.
