Title: So, What did you buy with your bitcoins on Black Friday?
Post by: Kprawn on November 29, 2019, 07:55:27 PM
I have never considered buying "things" with your bitcoins on Black Friday as a good choice, but I did change my mind today. Previously I thought

it was a bad idea, because you might buy something for say 0.006453 ($50) today and a month after that the value of those coins might double or

triple and you would regret paying for those goods and services with bitcoins.

A friend of mine changed my mind, because he says we (The Bitcoiners of this world) must support the merchants that supports Bitcoin or they will

simply stop supporting it and he says the Bitcoin price might plummet to $10/BTC and you would be glad that you spend it, whilst it was still valued

a lot more.  :P

We have regular power failures in our area, so I decided.. f%^ it.. I am going to buy a UPS and a generator to protect my electronic devices and I

bought these items at a local shop that supports Bitcoin payments. (I received a 65% discount on both items.)  ;D ;D ;D

So, what did you buy and did you support our Bitcoin merchants?

I think I'd regret it more if I didn't spend at least a little bit before a large decrease in price. Unfortunately, most of the things I wanted to buy were too niche or inconvenient to buy with Bitcoin so I had to settle for fiat.

Black Friday is much enjoyed on the western nation, and slowly getting spread over the Asian countries. This is just a tactic followed to increase the business during this time. I haven't purchased anything during this black Friday. I preferred to buy a product from Ali Express during this Black Friday, but the product I have added to my cart hasn't got any offer. This way I dropped the plan of buying, and my usage will be mostly in fiat after converting to fiat.

I don't understand why a lot of people are thinking this way.

Let's say you get a deal paying with bitcoin and instead of the normal price of 75$, you pay the equivalent of 60$ inBTC.
Since you would anyhow have spent the fiat, what is stopping you to convert either 75$ or 60$ in BTC and deposit it back to your wallet.
You end with the same amount of bitcoin (or more), you get your product and you encourage merchants to offer bitcoin as a payment method.
As simple as it gets!

I wholeheartedly recommend spending some BTC as often as you can with merchants willing to accept it. I haven't bought anything with BTC this weekend, I'd love to but no one that has something I want/need is accepting crytpto. If they do by chance their prices far outweigh the deal to be had elsewhere - I'm in no spot to just spend extra because I want to use my coins. I am however selling coins to users on the forum, as I think that's the next best thing keeping an active and robust P2P network available here.

I have done both spend a decent chunk and watch a large price run-up, as well as hold and watch 20-30% price drop. I've also seen the better side as well and watched the value of my coins grow in spending power. Best bet is to spend as needed where you can but roll some Fiat back into coins and/or always have a savings bag off to the side for the future.

Funny thing I was holding coins to wait for Black Friday deals on items I wanted. The price drop nearly wiped the savings out in the end lol.

Such mentality will not help the entire crypto ecosystem to grow and help mass adoption of Bitcoin and the entire cryptocurrency by people for transaction of goods and services. Bitcoin is a digital currency you need to understand that and clear the mind set you have regarding whether the value of bitcoin increase after using it to purchase something.  What if the value decreases? what will the person that sold you the goods say?  It is about time we accept bitcoin and the entire cryptocurrencies as digital currencies rather than digital assets.

Your friend is completely right. Bitcoin is meant to be used not to be stored. If everyone will refrain from using it then it will have no value.

Anyway, you can make some purchases now during the black friday using your bitcoins, so you don't miss the huge discounts, then buy more cryptos with cash later and refill your wallets.

For me im not planning to buy anything on black friday with my bitcoin and im a minimalist type of guy. Spending 0.006 btc that is worth $50 today might go even higher in value so im enduring all the temptations today to buy things i want tomorrow. I treat bitcoin as an asset/investment not an commodity that is to be carelessly spent with its scarce supply with its 2million plus btc left i think it is wise to store some of it while we still can.

I bought some hardware for my own computer.
Last year did the same and it was very easy to use and moving from payment into process acceptance.

Making these payments will surely help out bitcoin community and bring more investors to the table.
Since payments will become a worth thing looking for on the future.

Every time a black Friday event comes, I always use this opportunity to buy the items I want, because this is an opportunity
that rarely happens so I think I should use it. I usually buy computer hardware when black Friday. I personally do not mind
later bitcoin will go up or down after I buy items when black Friday ends. If bitcoin prices go down after black Friday ends it is
my luck, and if the bitcoin price goes up I won't be too sorry because I didn't spend all the bitcoin I have. At least I can enjoy
profits too if bitcoin goes up, so I think it depends on the way of thinking. According to me it's up to each person to use their
bitcoin shopping when black Friday or just hold back yourself do not shop in the hope that bitcoin will rise. Everyone's choices
are not right or wrong.

Let's not be so glum, I think one of the biggest issues when it comes to bitcoin mentality is one of regret. Oh, I can't believe I spent BTC there for something so useless, blah, blah. It's a bad mindset to have, and as someone who loves new tech, I've given up on it and just tried to enjoy life :)

This time, I used the purse.io addon/app for amazon's black friday deal and bought a bunch of the new black friday specials, with most of them being SSDs, headphones, and a monitor + some small purchases!

Black friday in our country is like sale, so apparently what it means is you will spend your money on things that you really don't need
for me instead of buying unnecessary, i would keep my money for emergency things, that are we don't expect to happen since, this year is really
not good , after investing so much , when bitcoin is 13k$ we now see ourselves under 8k$ so really bad , what we can do more is to accumulate bitcoin
suring this down time, and spend money wisely unlike other who spend money on things that are not needed

I haven't buy any. I want to save my bitcoin now. Its really tempting to buy on Black Friday but I think its best to save it now. I'm not used about Black Friday sales anyway. Its just part of marketing strategy. However, its also an opportunity for christmas gifts buying. Well, budgeting is the key. I think I have no budget yet for Christmas gifts..lol.

even if you think that way, as an investor only, there is still an excellent way of justifying such purchases. think about it as cashing out some of your profit. as an investor if you have invested say $1000 in bitcoin at the bottom ($1000=BTC0.29) after the rise you have to cash out something to be able to say you have made profit. so instead of selling it to get the fiat out and then using the fiat to buy something, why not buy directly with bitcoin? specially if there is a big discount like in Black Friday. so from your BTC0.29 that is currently worth $2200 you could spend $50 or BTC0.0065 and consider that "taking profit out".

End up didn't buy anything because I didn't find any too-good-to-be missed deal this year. Thinking about buying another hardware wallet but I think twice and decide that I don't need it.

A good message from your friend. It's true that we need to use our Bitcoin to encourage merchant. We often ask merchants to accept Bitcoin but then after they accepting it nobody uses it lol.

I don't understand why a lot of people are thinking this way.

Because it's too much hassle? There are also a lot of fee to convert fiat to BTC and sending it back to your wallet.

I have supported used my Bitcoin several times and experienced the event where I regret buying in Bitcoin instead of using the actual conversion of BTC itself. If you did it a couple of times, you would understand the importance of keeping BTC when it's an uptrend and selling when there's a downtrend. Whether you know it or not, that's how volatile the market is right now.

It's not wrong to participate in Black Friday sales or Cyber Monday sales; you must buy what you really need or possibly want that would be useful for you in the long run. Anyone could support bitcoin as long as you use it once in a while or trade using it.

Not necessarily true. You can use once in a year opportunity like this to buy good stuff for less price. For example, upgrade your workstation, buy a new phone, and etc. Especially when it comes to computers and gadgets as the deals are really good (well, most of the time).

So, if your phone is now getting old, stack your bitcoins and wait for next year, you'll get a better phone for less money so you can invest the rest.

Since the value of Bitcoin is not going well so this is not a good time for buying with Bitcoin at the current situation, I think when the Bitcoin price will get high then we will get a more amount of USD or any local Fiat, for me, That time is perfect for purchasing anything through Bitcoin, not only that but also holding Bitcoin is better option than buying with Bitcoin anything, whatever the case is, Basically I don't have any fondness of Black Friday, so buying with Bitcoin is not a good choice due to lack of worth at this moment, and that's why I didn't buy anything on this Black Friday.

Even though the BTC price has fallen, it can be still be used to purchase goods.
I bought a Bluetooth Mouse from Amazon by creating a listing for it in purse website for a discount.
It took a few days before someone fulfilled that order but I got good fifteen percent discount on it.
I didn't use my invested BTC but I converted the required BTC through fiat which took some time but received a good deal.

It is correct that we should at least spend our bitcoins not just hold it because it's a way to support merchants and promote bitcoin as well. Not only during black Friday or holidays but anytime we feel like spending it. Though I haven't bought anything because I don't want to spend my bitcoin on not so important things. And recently, I just bought something necessary so I have to save up before spending again.

Discounts are valid from November 25th yesterday and will end on December 2nd.
30% discount applies to all Ledger products.
Not bad to save expenses this month.

Payments can use Credit Cards, Paypal and can use Bitcoin through the Bitpay Application.

"Bitcoin is meant to be used" that's right. But the question is "is it going to be used in a right way?". Many people use their money in an unnecessary things such as WANTS. But that's what they want that's their money. But you should consider a lot of things.

What if we buy those poor people their NEEDS just for us bitcoin holder to help them. Since it's black friday, we can buy them foods, clothes, and anything that will benefit them. So that they will understand what bitcoin can do to people.

Well, we still have Cyber Monday for those people who have missed out. Someone gave some good advice in this thread, namely converting the

Fiat that you would have spend into bitcoins and paying for the goods and services with bitcoins. You will not regret the "buy", because you just

had that budget to use for that item or service. The problem come in when the merchant does not accept bitcoins, then you are forced to use the

Fiat or credit card. Many people do not have a budget for Black Friday, they just pull out the credit card.  >:(  (In a way, Bitcoin force you not to

make more debt)  8)

Ah yes, Black Friday...i made some cosmetic purchases but unfortunately the online market that i shop at don't accept bitcoin as a mode of payment so i had to liquidate some bitcoins and make the purchase in fiat. However, i made a request to their support team to inculcate this into their future plans because digital currencies is definitely the future. Hopefully, this would fall on good ears and improve upon the adoption of bitcoin. I did this in my own little effort. Y'all should try and do your best.

I was expecting to spend some coins but it seems that the bearish vibe in the market has left a bad taste in my mouth. I prefer to hodl through for now and spend whenever the price has broken through $10k again.

I know that the prices can sink even lower and that spending now could be good, but it just doesn't feel good. Spending coins to see the price go up later on isn't something I and with me, many others don't look forward to.

I am aware that I can replace spent coins, but that's just not my vision of how money should be used.

I bought nothing xd. I mostly don't buy stuff I don't need online or anywhere with or without sale, I just focus on buying things that I really needed in my daily life or in my future life. I really want to spend some wants but looking at bitcoins' current state you need to be careful about what you buy and make sure you need it because the money that can be used to fund investment will be wasted if you have done a wrong purchase.

In my opinion Bitcoins are far too valuable to be spent on black friday deals, unless you don't believe in BTC long-term. Just think a minute - if you sell 0.20 Bitcoin now to buy a TV at 40-50% off wouldn't you regret it some years from now when that 0.20 BTC could be worth $50k-200k?! Would you pay that much for a TV - do you really need that?  ???

Better just confine with your fiat holdings and spend them so you avoid losing from inflation as well haha

Supporting Bitcoin merchants sounds great, but I guess I'm just too seek them, but if places where I shop accepted BTC, I'd definitely spend some.

A good way is to look for local shops first, because it is easy to visit them or to buy online and get cheap/fast delivery. I did not know that I have few very good hardware shops in my country, but I try to google what is interesting (just to check prices) me with Bitcoin as an additional keyword. I think many don't even know what they can buy/pay for in their home country using Bitcoin.

Another way is to visit pages like this Spending-bitcoin.com - The biggest directory of webshops accepting Bitcoin! (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5198903.0) where we can find almost 1000 sites sorted by category, and all of them accept BTC as a means of payment.

I have in plan to buy a new hardware wallet for this Black Friday, but also some other things in my local stores.

On the recent event, I wasn't able to do anything strategical. There is a lot of way on how you can double or triple the value of your bitcoin and the most possible way is through holding. You can actually use your bitcoin in many ways nowadays but physically, only few countrie regulate the use of it. We just need to wait for a bit till the whole world legalize the use of bitcoin. Events like black friday can be a good time to buy but can also be a dangerous time to buy so you should think about all your decisions carefully always.

I have not purchased anything on this black friday sale because i didn't need anything at current but what my mentallity is that you need to enjoy your life rather than having optimistic mindset that $50 worth of btc could have double so there is no need to waste it?You need to promote crypto growth by trading in the market with merchants offering crypto services so rather than making btc a store of value make it as payment method.I have spend btc to buy some gaming stuffs earlier so next year sale will attract my needs.

Actually I did buy few things but not directly with Bitcoin but with my Bitcoin debit card. Unfortunately not much merchants accept Bitcoin and the offer of goods and services that you could buy with Bitcoin on Black Friday wasn't good at all. Of course I haven't spent all my coins and for luck I have my Bitcoin debit card otherwise I couldn't buy anything.

You really took a good decision to buy some stuff in black Friday using bitcoin, as your friend said, you should enjoy your bitcoins now and buy different things that you like to buy, bitcoin's price can even decrease in the next months, so when you had bitcoin you should at least use a little bit of your earnings to buy some stuffs, at least for yourself and also for the bitcoin community, I really spend around 300$ worth of bitcoin in the last black Friday and this year I didn't spend a lot.

I want to buy new mobile phone higher higher specification but not getting which site available to but it with lower price on black Friday time, almost people around the world waiting for black Friday moment to get some thing with lower price and if you life in United State you have many store giving discount on Black Friday.

In my country bitcoin is restricted and merchants do not accept bitcoins.
First of all thank you Bitcoin Black Friday deal because many members will be holding bitcoin but they won't be able to spend or buy anything with bitcoin because there is no online bitcoin payment option. For such members this is actually a great platform to purchase in Black Friday.
I still hold bitcoin for upcoming year and right now i don't have any plans to buy either.

It is stored for my future so just gonna hold bitcoin

It's true that we need to use our Bitcoin to encourage merchant. We often ask merchants to accept Bitcoin but then after they accepting it nobody uses it lol.

~
Because it's too much hassle? There are also a lot of fee to convert fiat to BTC and sending it back to your wallet.

Ok, got that, we need merchant adoption, we need people using it ...but count me out because it's too much of hassle to buy bitcoins.
I'm pretty sure that if everybody would simply hold, don't buy anything, never clog the chain with their troublesome transactions we will all become rich with no hassle. I mean, why are we even talking about bitcoin, bitcoin will skyrocket to a gazillion even if nobody knows what bitcoin is. With a lot of sarcasm, BF offer!

Holding Bitcoin for long time is a great idea, but now it is perfect time for buying goods within black Friday offer.. Anything could be happened at the end of the year, so I wanna buy necessity before big dump..  :o

I didn't buy anything with my bitcoins. I'm not going to spend them now when we are in a bear market. I'll think about it when we at least go above 50% of all time high. Now when we are at 40% it's just a waste of money if we sell.

I spent some of my fiat on black friday merchandise. One of the things that I bought was a new phone because my old one had 4 years already. As long as I have fiat I will spend that first before any bitcoins.

I did not buy anything in past months, fiat or BTC, but you know you have a very good point here: spend BTC to support payments in BTC

People always asks for companies to start accepting BTC, but they never spend a single satoshi to support these companies and them, with time will stop to accept BTC and cryptos

It's a good idea

Doesn't this seem incredibly short sighted. No one is saying spend all your coins today, but imagine if everyone thought that way. No BTC moving at all, just leverage traders going to town on sidechains. Do you think there would still be value in BTC or any crypto?

Not to mention we are also still 2X from the low this year. It doesn't always work out but holding every last Satoshi close and never spending them. Spend some save some = healthy market, and future profits.

Edit: I continued to try and find a way to buy something using my BTC, unfortunately the only thing I needed from Newegg at a price I would pay came from a 3rd party seller who wouldn't accept it.  :P  So close.

So unfortunately I can only trade with people for FIAt, but at least I am avoiding currency conversion fees to USD.

I agree with you and I do not understand why not to spend bitcoins? It is a payment process why not just sell your fiat to get the bitcoins and then buy what you need with the bitcoins instead of buying it with fiat. Isn't that the point?

That's sad that you can buy so little. newegg is for people in the US mostly right? It is sad that you have nowhere to spend bitcoin.

I bought a whole lot of games on steam with giftcards I bought with bitcoin. I bought some stuff for my garden and some new seeds I paid eth for that. Netflix and googleplay I pay with bitcoin. I also got some nice deals on an investment on black friday. I also bought like a mug for someone for christmas. (a really cool gamer mug legend of zelda) a few other presents. Whatever you can things of really.

Do you really want me to explain why your idea is not going to work?

Hypothetical situation, I want to buy a new TV or a new car and you propose that I buy bitcoins with my fiat and then what? There are almost no places that would allow me to shop but even if there are some they usually are the expensive ones. A simple Honda or Ford will not offer you this option. The ones that do are exotic dealerships where prices begin with 50 thousand dollars. If you're looking for a used car for Bitcoin it's even harder.

Most people want to buy something as cheap as possible and they won't pay 20% more to prove a point and spend their bitcoins.

Bro, just acknowledge you said something stupid and be done with it.
Nobody asked you to buy a brand new car, tv or anything else, the discussion was about purchasing things with bitcoins.
And in your first post you never touched the products not available thing, the only thing you cared about was your precious bitcoins that will be worth 666% more once the bear market is over.

Quite a different story than what you're trying to picture now, isn't it?

Ok I guess giving examples doesn't work for you so I'll be as non specific as possible.

I was answering this part:
why not just sell your fiat to get the bitcoins and then buy what you need with the bitcoins instead of buying it with fiat

It's impossible and it's inefficient.

I cannot buy the things I need with my bitcoins because the things I need are unavailable or cost 20% premium in places that do accept Bitcoin.
I also think that selling in the bear market is inefficient and I stand by it.

Simple enough for stompix?

It will be far more simple to just acknowledge you're afraid to spend any bitcoin because they might be worth 5$ more tomorrow and be done with it. I can understand greed, I dislike people trying to cover it with childish arguments.

In my country there are no offline merchants that provide payments with Bitcoin. Because transactions using crypto are still considered illegal. But the last time I used my crypto coin to buy credit and top up my telephone number data. The website address is https://triv.co.id/en

I bought an amazon gift card for my woman which she immediately turned into treats for our cat, a netflix subscription and some other stuff.
I'm not spending a lot because there's very little things that I need at the moment and I'm also trying to dollar cost average as much as I can.

I honestly  didnt buy anything. Because I want to save more coins so that in the future I could use it to buy more and to buy anything that I want. Invest now, save your money and produce more of it so when the right time will come you may now enjoy your investment and savings as well together with your offspring.

That is a good idea to save more at this time because we don't know when bitcoin prices to increase. So if we can save more and more amount, I think that we can have the right time to sell bitcoin and make a big profit.  Sometimes I feel not right to use my bitcoin to buy something in any events because I prefer to withdraw the bitcoin into fiat money, and then I can use it to buy something. But if somehow, I can see there is a big discount for a product that I really want, then I might buy that product using bitcoin.

Honestly I think, on Black Friday a few years ago I bought a PS4 at 70% cheaper and later sold at 50% cheaper which is 20% to me, but I honestly repent because it is bad and you are not advised to do the same . And this year I didn't buy anything because the masses do not see the current price of bitcoin, so I am not wasted. So I save up, and it will be Black Friday for me only to have bitcoin rise. ;D

Unfortunately, in my bureaucratic country, Black Friday is just a loud trend, a hoax, when the prices are not much reduced, shops are making only fake stickers. Therefore, I did not buy anything for both bitcoin and fiat. I think let coins be HODLed, it will be better

Nah I didn't buy anything using Bitcoin, but I did buy a lot of things online on Amazon on Black Friday, but not with Bitcoin. I don't really buy Bitcoins to use them for buying things online, my main aim of buying BTC is to keep it as a savings or investment. And by the way, I don't like how the using–of–Bitcoin for buying online works; the process it takes and the fact that there are no protections in place if it happens to be a scam or maybe the product isn't what you need and things like that.

Bitcoin = savings account
Fiat = daily spender
Right man, that's the same thing with me – any money I put into Bitcoin is to be saved, so I don't spend them on just anything. I spend and buy whatever I need using fiat only.

I am exactly holding my money right now trying to stop spending on a almost regular days. Black Friday is just an occasion for people who like to spend most of their money. Therefore, it's a trend for them but i don't want to get involved in those spendy trends because I'm currently trying to control my money for leaving in my own pocket just for a designed stickers. lol

Wow, that's quite inspiring. I would happily spend my bitcoins on buying things but the country I live in doesn't support bitcoin as of now and so the merchants don't accept bitcoin payments.
I wish there were online retailers for a black friday who accepts bitcoin. I know there are sites which bitcoin payments to buy things but am specifically asking for a black friday!

Anyway, it's good to know there are people like your friend who keeps changing people's perspective over bitcoin and encouraging others to use it.
