Title: Allow newbies to send you PMs - Working or not?
Post by: dkbit98 on December 02, 2019, 11:39:01 AM

I recently started to receive spam PMs from newbies and brand new member accounts.
Members (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2723395) are reported to moderators.

I disabled option to receive PMs from them in Personal Message Options.

Why am I still receiving PMs from them?
Is this a bug or what?

It's working fine. But that guy sent you PM is with copper membership.

- Some of the same permissions as Member-rank members, such as reduced signature styling restrictions. (But none of the PM-related restrictions are currently lifted, such as the style limit or per-hour PM limit.)

Edit;
Seems you have tagged that user for spam on your inbox. Its doesn't necessary to tag him if that guy didn't attempt to scam you somehow. Just report to admin they will handle I am sure. Spammer should not treated as a scammer. Let admin and moderators handle it.

That one is from a copper member, IIRC Theymos said that gives them different privileges.

Thanks for fast answers guys.
I was not aware that brand new copper members can send PMs like this.

remistaki (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2723395) registered today, never posted anything but multiple spam PMs to other members.

I raised the same question a year ago (see A couple of quick questions related to forum rules (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5059998.msg47420530#msg47420530)), being unaware at the time that Copper Member Newbies could still PM you, regardless of the status of the "allow newbies to send you PMs" flag.

Ill use is probably not too widespread, otherwise it may have been treated with more recurrency and debate (likely the "report to moderator" for unsolicited PM spam is used if it is uncalled for).

It's better to report the PMs to Mods so that he gets banned. Receiving unsolicited PMs from unknown users is sometimes irritating.

You receive the messages from them because they are copper member with some privileges such as sending private message or posting with photos, that's fair because they paid to do that.

do you even read the whole fucking thread?

posts #2 & #3 - less than 30 seconds apart give the answer...

you come along 150 minutes later and repeat whats already been said! great value there fella!

Theymos definitely didn't sell them spambox and that is not fair to users who blocked newbies.

One way is that the Copper Membership should further be increased in price to like $30.

Or alternatively just add the "Newbie/ Brand New" filter so they are unable to send any PMs.

You should report his post in this case, you don't need to use the f-word for that

Yes, I had a question about this over a year ago and started a thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5033064) on it.  It isn't clear to everyone that Newbies who bought a copper membership don't have their PMs blocked--and I'm assuming that normally this isn't a big deal, since that copper membership kind of incentivizes you to NOT send out spam PMs because the risk of getting banned is fairly high.

Obviously sometimes it is a problem.  I'd much prefer it if their PMs were blocked just like any other Newbie, but to me it's not a huge deal.  I haven't had any Newbies PMing me since I made that thread.

Lol.  This is TMAN we're talking about.  The F word is probably a single key on his keyboard where the space bar should be.

I cannot confirm or deny that I have hotkeys for my 2 favorite words, cunt and fuck. Whilst the OP had a question that did not have an obvious answer to some, once it is answered in the thread anyone spouting the same answer without reading the fucking thread needs to be t-bagged IMO
