Title: Ethereum hard fork: Istanbul today Dec 7
Post by: UNOE on December 08, 2019, 01:21:42 AM
I got an email from the exchange I use stating the Istanbul hard fork is to occur at block 9069000 at approximately 15:44:36 PST on December 7. It happened already but they have suspended all deposits and withdrawals from happening until further notice.
It is not a contentious fork and so does not result in any new coins from it happening.
So why would they decide to suspend all transactions of ethereum?

It is interesting. I previously read that improvements to ethereum called Istanbul were due to happen on December 4th. Therefore, after this number I searched for news on this subject and could not find it. Yes, separation from ethereum of new coins is not planned yet. Could the suspension of trading on the exchange be connected with something else, and not with improvements in ethereum?

Maybe it's because they're having a hard fork. Because the hard fork is one of Ethereum's own organizations and wants to set up to do another mission. sometimes they get mixed opinions and don't get support so they need to postpone it for a long time to correct things. when stable, they continue to implement their hard fork. in fact we should be happy about this, which means they are trying to improve and don't want the hard fork event to go wrong.

So far this has been a good news in any way meaning they are doing something that will benefit of the users, so we just need to avoid using Ethereum for now until the upgrade is done so our money won't stuck, so far, we just need to hold it in our wallet first and don't send in any exchange yet, as far as I know it is not over yet, I am also asking the exchange when it will be upgrade but they don't have info too.

All is just a plan and they can change at any time. This happened because the Instanbul community was so few, making the hard fork difficult because there were not many supporters and sympathizers. We also have to sympathize with this new organization, they need to stabilize on their plans and strategies after the hard fork to make sure their goals can succeed. Anyway, this hard fork doesn't mean much to me, I just expect Ethereum 2.0, Staking will help a lot of rich people.

It's just part of their preparation to avoid further disruption as protocol or it may possibly cause some problems while the fork is commencing. Well, the fork's done so you may now proceed with your withdrawals and/or deposits on ETH.

When we are upgrading the protocol, it is advisable to stop every transaction to prevent a bug or missing transaction that might happen when we are upgrading it.
That was why they were disabling it, prevention is better than cure.

Ethereum hard fork Istanbul took place.  Serious exchanges have suspended the entry of ETH withdrawal to reduce the risks relating to the funds of their customers.  ETH network 60% switched to new changes.  We need to wait for the announcement of the restoration of input ETH output.

Nothing to panic, not unless it goes beyond on a given time. The purpose is really to prevent an incident like this, and its normal for the upgrade. Wait for the announcement from the team if the upgrade was successful and don’t create the panic.

Well, the update was not on ETH but I also believe that the year 2020 will be good again to ETH.

They would like to be protected if something goes wrong, you never know what will happen after update, if there will not be any attack. So it is more safe to temporary suspend all deposit and withdrawals.  ;)

Probably they suspended transaction to prevent any bug :) We can't blame them for that imo  ;)

I'll definetly keep an eye on Eth, new improvements are coming !

As per Huobi Global:

Quote
Dear Users,

According to ETH (Ethereum) official website, ETH will undergo a hard fork & upgrade at a block height of 9,069,000 (estimated on December 8, 2019 (GMT+8)). Click here for Ethereum Istanbul Upgrade Countdown.

In anticipation of this upgrade, Huobi Global will execute the following:

1. Suspension of ETH and ERC20 Deposits and Withdrawals: Huobi Global will suspend the deposit and withdrawal of ETH & all ERC20 tokens at 06:00am on December 8, 2019 (GMT+8).

2. Suspension of ETH and ERC20 new margin trading loan services: In order to effectively control the risk of margin trading, Huobi Global will suspend acceptance of ETH & all ERC20 token new margin trading loan services at 11:00am on December 7, 2019 (GMT+8).

3. No impact to existing ETH and ERC20 balance & trading activities: ETH and ERC20 balances and trading services will not be affected during the upgrade.

4. Resumption Schedule: Deposit and withdrawal services will be resumed as soon as the ETH mainnet becomes secure and stable. The resumption time will be notified via another announcement.

Huobi Global will safeguard your assets as always and take care of the hard fork for you. Thanks for your support!

https://huobiglobal.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000023103-ETH-Istanbul-Hard-Fork-Impacts-All-ERC20

Read number 4, they wanted to be sure that everything is secure and stable. They don't want to take chances in this upgrade as it may bring more harm on them. I guess this is the right decision, instead of rushing things out, it's better to take it slowly and when the dust has settled and everything looks perfect, then it will resumed.

For that situation mate, we can't determine what reason it is but what certain for now is this will probably prevent more dumps of eth. I think this was a very serious preparation of the incoming bullrun if it won't fail in the long run. So let's see what it take in the future.

As for now, we have nothing to do is just to wait when further announcement of Ethereum back operation again. This is not all about exchanges site platform, I also received email from those payment processors that accept Ethereum that as of now they are disabled deposit/withdraw all related ethereum transaction 2 days before this happen. Probably this is good for Ethereum and to have a better improvement to their system.

Some exchanges didnt plan to suspend withdrawal and deposit until they saw others. It was just to take caution against any possibilities but have not seen any message of restoration of this service from those exchanges.

even though Ethereum has good news, they have done hardfork according to the roadmap, but this is different from previous years,
because prices are not affected, Ethereum is still down, this year is really a terrible year

We should treat this update as regular maintenance to prevent a problem from happening when the users are using their platform.
A delay is also understandable since a protocol upgrade makes some changes in the system that might cause some sort of disruption.
There is nothing wrong with it, we need to calm down a little bit and chill out.

Can someone confirm that deposit/withdrawal of Ethereum is still suspended (or is already available) on the exchanges?

So why would they decide to suspend all transactions of ethereum?

You can still trade Ethereum on Binance  :)

Is deposit and withdrawal still suspended? Probably trying to be extra careful. The exchange ower doesn't want to take even small risk with people funds. I guess he is being responsible. That is a reasonable thing to do in my opinion. Afterall it's a one day event.

Yes, almost all exchanges warned about update. I cannot explain since I am not aware of technical issues, but essentially the deposit/withdrawal is frozen during this time period.
The fork took place with success. The year 2020 will be the year of ethereum.
I did not find any information about the outcome, if you know something about it, you can share it with us.

everything is done on huobi side, you can withdraw and deposit it again normally. I do not know about other exchanges. about trading activity, this upgrade has nothing to do with it, you still can trade it even when the upgrade happens(every exchange is allowing you to make a trade, they are only suspending the withdrawal and deposit).

I guess this is a good deal because we will see improvements but it is also risky because it is a hard fork that we don't know if works or not. Maybe it would be full of bugs and would be horrible and there would be double spending and all sorts of things, or maybe it would be the amazing thing that we have been waiting for.

I still can't believe one day ethereum could be a staking coin, think about it, there was a company that got 1 billion dollars in funding for their own token project, if they got that much ethereum when it was staking, even if it is just 1% per year (will probably be bigger) that would be 10 million dollars per year just for keeping it there, how many companies in crypto world actually has bigger than 10 million dollars a year expense anyway? Staking will change ICO world.

During their last meeting for eth devs they announced a delay of proof of stake to two years from now. So don't expect the year of ethereum to be fully conceived until 2021 at the very latest.

I feel they suspended withdrawal and deposit as a strategy to avoid any complaints should the fork not take effect as it was supposed to despite the fact the hard fork wasn't creating any new fork tokens from Eth blockchain but measures are sill necessary for the exchange.

This is an upgrade for ethereum network, and change consensus algorithm, so I think they suspended deposit and withdrawn just to make sure nothing is wrong with the ethereum transaction before the upgrade is complete and the system works stably.

as far as I know at this time ethereum has experienced a lot of hardfork and it seems that it cannot have a good impact on ethereum price movements at the exchange place, should if the hardfork is good then the ethereum price at the exchange place can go up.

it’s very difficult to say why they stopped all transactions, but I think we have nothing to worry about. not one exchange but even several did so, and I think that tomorrow all issues will be resolved. the most important thing is that ISTANBUL to be successfully implemented. if the update  will be  unsuccessful, we will again see the drop in ETH prices

I think they suspended activities of etheruem because of any possible error or complication that may result to withdrawal and deposit. And I hope this fork in the network will improve the ethereum scalability, so I can seamless trade on Folkdelta and spend less on transaction fee.

that is what they hope to achieve.  they are doing  gradual forking, probably because they would have to add the untraceable option for ETH just like the DASH features and then the sharding too. if it can be scaled DEX will also be excited to see how much transaction per seconds.  no dates yet when we can start staking? this is another venture to work on. those who were late in staking dash, with ETH its still possible.

Most likely this is due not only to Istanbul but also to the launch of the block browser for the Ethereum 2.0 test network. Oddly enough but finally the team and the Ethereum Vitalik Buterin started to work.Yes they have created hitches for users but for this blockchain it is normal. Because in the future we are waiting for a quality product. And let the errors be better noticed at this stage than after the Ethereum 2.0 update

Also proves ETH is a bullshit coin.

IF you can pull off a hard fork at that scale without disagreement.
THEN it is not a good thing if you seek decentralization and immutability.

What do you expect from alternative cryptocurrency? if you are looking for decentralization then you are in the wrong boat.
Just let the show happens, something like this makes cryptocurrency more interesting.
