Title: You selling to buy Xmas gifts or using bitcoins to buy Xmas gifts?

I'm selling some of my bitcoins to buy Christmas gift as there are no local stores that accepts BTC as payment here. And I think this could be the case for the majority here, unless they have fiat then obviously they won't touch their bitcoin because of the current price.

No, I'm not spending my Bitcoin for Christmas gifts. Usually, buying Christmas gifts is quite stressful thing and often it's last minute's purchase. Usually, I simple go to some local shops and buy Christmas gift there. And obviously, these shops don't accept Bitcoin :/. Also, sometimes I buy gifts online, but very few local online stores accepts BTC. But I have to pick local online stores instead of foreign, because I need fast delivery.
But maybe giving some BTC as Christmas gift sounds as not bad idea.

Why? It seems like a reasonable theory to me:

The PlusToken scammers are slowly offloading to OTC brokers, who are then pressuring exchanges like Huobi down. Arbitrage among the global exchanges handles the rest.

A better reason might be that people are selling coins or using coins to buy Xmas gifts. Let's be honest, it is that time of the year and people are going on holiday, so they need to dive into their Bitcoin hoard to pay for that and also some Xmas gifts.

Are you using your coins to buy Xmas gifts and to pay for your holiday expenses?

I'm not selling bitcoins at these prices. Are you crazy?! This holiday season, everything is being paid for with cash or credit card.

Same here. As much as possible, I don't want to spend my btc for gifts or I already lost the concept of giving gifts during holidays. It is like, it doesn't matter anymore. So if I really want to buy gift for someone these holidays, I will just use whatever fiat I have.
And yes, better to send btc instead rather than spending it on material things. But of course, you need a crash course to give if you are sending it to a noncrypto user.

As the price of bitcoin keeps falling, I don't have any plans of spending bitcoin to buy gifts. By now if I spend, a $100 worth gift will turn to be $50 if the price of bitcoin increases soon. If I wasn't able to buy gifts, then I'll send little bitcoin to everyone as gift. This time more service renders too have begun to support in sending christmas gifts accepting bitcoin.

I think same as you do, though I do not have any BTC on hands right now but if I had any stock available, I would not sell it at this time when the price is 1/3 of the ATH. I have seen threads where some guys were expecting 'Santa to gift them a pump surplus' but Santa is doing the opposite this time by draining down the expectations of everyone just like a building on sand gets down with just a small gust of air. This time is to save BTC because the bull run is not yet started, and I think 🎅 wants us to learn how to save BTC this Christmas instead of selling it and dumping the markets or using it directly for things that will never increase in value while BTC will.

Nah, the price is too cheap to sell just to just Xmas gifts.

I'm sure that majority of people here have jobs so they have their Xmas bonuses. So it's not wise unless you really don't have fiat in your system to buy gifts. Wise investors knows when to sell their BTC. So for those who are going to dump it today because of the holidays, then think again.

Just sold some of my bitcoins to buy xmas gifts at city mall. I don't see nothing wrong with that considering BTC is heading to re-test $6K support and eventually break thru it.

The coins that I am holding will stay in my wallet even in this gift giving season. I will sell some items to gain or buy more coins if possible since BTC today is down. Maybe there is a slight effect on the BTc price for those who are liquidating their coins in exchange for fiat but maybe not that much that will make BTC price drop from $7,100 down to $6,500 theres more behind it that we are not seeing yet.

I don't mind the price. I will use my BTC if I want to.

Should be regret since I'm will dump at a considered low price for others? Of course not.

Money can be work again. If people can't handle what's happening in Bitcoin price, then no choice but to face the wrath of dump since nothing they can do with the situation.

However, fortunately, I have funds exclusively for such events like Christmas so no way I can harm my precious BTC but instead will remain idle for the meantime. Instead of worrying about how's the price is currently behaving, turn it into an advantage by considering accumulating more.

I kind of had the same thought about this dip below $7000, that it might be people selling their bitcoin in order to free up money to buy gifts.  But that would have to be a *lot* of selling in order for that to be true, and I'm not sure if that's what's going on here.

I have not sold any bitcoin or anything else lately, because I haven't overinvested in crypto.  There are probably a lot of people who have done that, just like there are those who've gambled away more than they should have.  Let's see what happens after christmas.  Maybe people will start buying bitcoin with money they got as a gift.

I am not using my Bitcoin to buy anything this Christmas for the purpose of sharing to anyone. No, I do prefer to continue holding my little hoard of Bitcoin with the big hope that in 2020 there would be a more-than-usual pump on its price and that can be the time that I might liquidate all of my cryptocurrency holding. Personally, I am already a little bit tired of this waiting game and I am planning to be shifting to forex trading instead. Because we are not experiencing some surge in speculations, the tendency for many to convert their Bitcoin to cash for the holidays created the current pressure on Bitcoin and that can be the reason why we have the bearish mood overtaking the market.

maybe before Christmas & New Year some people sell bitcoin, but that doesn't have a big impact on the price of bitcoin, who have a big impact on the price of bitcoin are big traders, we don't know what the big traders think, if we look at the history of bitcoin prices in December prices do not always go down, it means that the big day doesn't really affect the price of bitcoin.

On the contrary, it's better to stash more in this holiday isn't it? The price is too damn low, forget the Xmas gifts, it will come and go, you need to look at the bright side of it.

In my case I have prepared at least 50% of my gifts to family members and extended families. So my bitcoin is safe at the moment and there's no way to sell it today. I bought it way below the current price, so it's easy profit for me, but I'm not going to do it.

I'm interested on the news about China you're talking about. Nevertheless, anything could be the reason, from the holidays, to whales, or even such news you're saying. For me though, I'm holding my coins since it isn't too much, and I have cash to buy gifts for the holidays. And also, I'm hoarding coins for profit on the next halving. These dumps are clear signs of a buy flag.

Right now because of in need I definitely selling some of my bitcoins in order to buy some stuffs for this coming Christmas eve. We can always use bitcoin as our personal money in order to help us to pay and buy things for this coming holidays which is the Christmas and New year, I am starting to buy gifts for my kids and relatives especially for my father and my mother in order for them to be happy on the holidays.
I am using some of my coins as a token to produce a fiat money that will use to buy some goods and products that we need in order to complete our Christmas holiday.

not this year mate,i will choose to use my Bonus from work to spend on gifts, foods and other miscellaneous than taking out my cryptocurrrency.

Well, Christmas only came once a year, then why not? If we can feel the spirit of giving then spending a little amount of bitcoin won't matter. Surely, we can buy more afterwards as it seems bitcoin might dump more.

Honestly, I don't want to speculate anymore as if bull run will come or not. As long as I hold above the price I bought then I'm good.

that would be the stupidest thing to do in my opinion and i don't think anybody is doing it mostly because i have never seen anybody liquidate their assets to buy Christmas gifts or things like that. it is like saying your stocks, gold, real estate,... to buy Christmas gifts! it simply has never made any sense to me even though every year around the same times people make the same assumption.
even if people wanted to "convert" their bitcoins to gifts, they would only do it if they could directly use bitcoin to buy gifts in which case it wouldn't affect the price at all.

Your presumption are totally right because most cryptocurrency holder and investors usually sell some portion of their coins when it this season but doesn't mean the whole downtrend happened all because of that. What I'm trying to say is that the whales act slightly involves but this season is the season for experience crypto accumulators to get more cheap coins.

I will sell Bitcoin to buy Xmas gifts if Bitcoin is of high value. Everyone wants to find the best profit. So you have the right to choose your own way of making a profit. Many experts believe that by 2020 the Bitcoin market will have a breakthrough. Invest now.

yes maybe some bitcoin holders who don't have funds to celebrate Christmas will sell some of their bitcoins to buy Christmas gifts. and maybe this is what causes the price of bitcoin to always decline every year end because many of the holders of bitcoin are selling bitcoin to celebrate Christmas and the new year.
and in my opinion there are rarely people who give bitcoin as a gift because there are still many who do not understand about bitcoin.

Title: Re: You selling to buy Xmas gifts or using bitcoins to buy Xmas gifts?
Post by: bitzizzix on December 18, 2019, 07:30:07 AM
Even though the Christmas celebration is important and identical to the gift it does not mean you have to sell or use bitcoin fully, because right now the price of bitcoin is very cheap and not the right time to use it and if you really need it use as little or as much as you need and with reasons because you are short of funds that you previously used Christmas needs from your pocket or from a real job salary.
and it is indeed difficult in situations where both are very important, but bitcoin will be more important and profitable if you make a sale when the price of bitcoin is high, and a decrease in bitcoin is now actually an opportunity to buy it because the price is low.

Sometime i don't have other choice beside sell some of my bitcoin to do a trip in my holiday. Actually my real job salary is not really high, so sometime i cover daily needs with sell bitcoin that i have.

This sounds more plausible to me. We saw this also in the past years and I am beginning to conclude it is an annual pattern. However, this is a wrong move at this time owning to the abysmal price of Bitcoin now. Those who're selling now will probably regret it soon when price kicks in again.

There's no single store here in my country that accepts using Bitcoin as a payment method, so obviously I'm just selling few of my Bitcoins to buy some Xmas gifts. I'd be happy to use Bitcoin directly if there's stores which accept it but unfortunately there's none here in my country, and I think a lot of people here in the community doing the same as me because not all the countries in the world has stores  which they accept crypto currencies.

I don't have some special habits regarding Bitcoin during the holiday season.
I beleive that Bitcoin is not only made to be holded and kept in some wallet but also should be spent in real life for real things. That is why I'm trying to find balance between holding and spending. But if you are holder and you don't otherwise spend Bitcoin, exchanging or spending it only because of Christmas maybe isn't so good idea.

No, I don't. I use fiat for it. Aside from earning in crypto, I have a real-time job. That is why there is no need for me to cash out my earnings in crypto. I consider them as a Christmas gift for my self for the next bull-run. I even sometimes invest my money whenever the prices go down.

First of all, Christmas is the same every year, but I don't think bitcoin is falling in December each year. It did last year, sort of, and we can say that it does this year, but what about, say, 2017?
As for personal usage, I did sell some BTC to buy presents for New Year and I also received my New Year present in Bitcoin in advance. So some movement can be explained by actions like that, but I don't think it's likely that this is the main reason the price if going down.
Moreover, this negative trend can be over tomorrow or in a couple of days easily, that's just how volatile bitcoin can be.

Christmas and year-end parties have become a common part of the habit of selling several assets, including bitcoin and other shares, I call it "book closing celebration". Last year the price decline also looks the same regardless of what the current chart shows.

I also sell a small portion for celebratory needs, bitcoin will still be speculative in the range of $ 6-7k, I don't regret it, I need to take a vacation to prepare a new strategy.

The price of the bitcoin is not depends on what kind of months afterall. Even if it is december, we cannot say that the bitcoin will become bullish. Right now even it is December the trend is still downtrend. My goal is to increase the bitcoins that I have today so I do not plan to use it in order for me to buy christmas gifts. It is still better if I will use fiat money n buying goods and services to not decrease the bitcoin that I have.

I'd rather hold my coins rather than giving gifts to love once specially in my case that we dont have a close relatives that is why gift giving is not a case. This is the quest for us if we can had the patience to hold even that there is this kind of occasion.

you should never make assumptions just because price made a certain movements. if you look back at the previous 10 years only some of the years price dropped and the rest of the time price has been rising.

so unless YOU yourself have sold bitcoin to buy gifts you shouldn't assume others are doing it.

Yes, I sell some for holiday expenses. Its really quite a loss sell due to very low price. We really can't avoid to spend this holiday season. But of course I'm not selling it all. Its so hard to loss or not gain at all from selling it in a very low price. Buying christmas gifts are really part of the tradition for the season of giving and gathering with family.

Since it's the season of giving, and Christmas is just once a year, it's okay to spend some to buy gifts. It's more convenient to sell some Bitcoin to buy some gifts since you can have more options and choices in buying things what they really want because it's not easy to find stores that would accept Bitcoin so I'll just sell some then buy gifts. I don't mind if the price is down since I really like to give people around me some gifts. I can just earn it again by working hard.

Me, I uses my money from my work so that i'm not selling anything about my crypto. I just use my salary for the expenses because why will I use my btc if I have money in my wallet. Although, expenses are certain during december. I'm thankful because I have my job that gives me money.

He might have a different religion. Let us respect that. Some just don't do Christmas.
It is about giving though. Even if you don't have any family near you, there is some joy just giving to anyone without waiting for something back.
I am selling. My monthly salary and bonuses might not be enough.
Just a little bit, I will earn it back afterwards.  ;D

Actually, I do not use any cryptocurrency to buy Xmas gifts and even paying holiday expenses. I just use our fiat because for me it's more convenient in buying stuff like Xmas gift and there are few stores that accept cryptocurrencies in our country. I rather use my save money than selling my bitcoin just to buy stuff. I know many members here will sell their bitcoin just to buy some Xmas gift and it's their decision to sell their bitcoin but for me, it's better to hoard your bitcoin than selling it.

I'm selling some of my bitcoins to buy Christmas gift as there are no local stores that accepts BTC as payment here. And I think this could be the case for the majority here, unless they have fiat then obviously they won't touch their bitcoin because of the current price.

I'm also doing that but not much only 1/4 of what I'm holding right now, Cryptotalk wallet is off and I can add anymore funds for the holiday except the one that are in my wallets, but as soon as Cryptotalk wallet opened I will buy back those Bitcoin that i sold, I think majority of us here experienced this because of the holiday rush where there are so many stuffs that are on sale.

yes at this moment people prefer to sell their coins for chrismast event or their holiday, it makes bitcoinprice falling down end of the year
for me, i am not sell my bitcoins yet because i am late to do it, when i sell my bitcoin now i will get lose for my money. still using fiat money from my offline job to makes holiday and other purposes

The truth is I also sell some of my btc to use for this Christmas season in exchange into fiat since no available merchant yet to use btc. The importance is still I am into holding of my btc until such time price could recover in the market. There are some reasons why this decline is happening but let's hope for the recovery soon.

I think almost everyone is selling their hodl Bitcoin to cash out to buy some gifts in this coming Christmas holiday. One of my friend told me he sold some of his Bitcoin to buy some gifts for this Christmas. So I expect almost is just like that, unless they do have a savings already that is for Christmas.

To me I didn't sell it though because I know it's a bad idea and since I still can manage to buy some gifts with my savings.

The same goes to my decision in the market especially to the holdings that I have in bitcoin, what I mostly do right now is to a percentage of my holdings to buy some present/gift for me to have something to give. I also think of incorporating bitcoin directly to the gift but mostly, who I am about to give are toddlers that seems to not be aware of things at all. So, it tends to be that my spendings is quite higher compared to using bitcoins to by Xmas gifts.

I don't really think this might be the reason for the current price drop in bitcoin. If people would have wanted to cash out then they would have done it when the price was high.
The price is too low right now and hence I wouldn't consider to sell any coins myself. Besides that this theory has become quite old now since I have at least heard of this from the past 2 years.

To be honest I think it is quite foolish to sell out your bitcoins for buying Christmas gifts. But maybe some people are doing it as many of the replies in this thread say "yes I'm doing so to buy gifts". But if you ask me personally I am not cashing out bitcoins to buy any gifts lol neither should anyone else.

If I don't have any choices but to spend it to buy Christmas gift, then I would use it, but since it is impossible for a cryptocurrency user to be lacking in fiat, I guess most of us here are spending fiat over bitcoin because it is more better, why is it? well, think about your future, fiat's price would not change that big but bitcoin's price is always fluctuating either big or small.

Knowing what's the difference between volatility and regulated currency will save you from losing your profits in bitcoin. Happy Holidays to you all and spend your crypto wisely.

Cheers :)

No that is not the reason as i have stated here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5210723.msg53380762#msg53380762

If you think on selling your btc cause of Xmas gifts then yeah ok everyone would do that.
But all of sudden that would make price go abruptly lower in just few minutes? ::)

Answering your second statement:

I would prefer both options if i find any particular payment methods.
Paying directly with btc would make me pay less fees or wait money to be transactioned between payment methods / bank transferences.

I also have the same idea before but as time goes by investors are don't really want to spend their crypto for something they rather hold it than to use it.
So I think that only a small percent of investor or crypto holders are cashing out for the holiday season there might be another reason why the price is falling.

I work full time in crypto and my salary gets paid in Bitcoin now so what I am doing is just taking out my salary and the little bit extra I need for the holidays but am still growing and investing aggressively again my Bitcoin holdings and other crypto bags. I am not buying anything frivolous right now as I want to do what I did between 2015and 2018 and rinse and repeat but this time do it properly and take the profits on all the highs and rebuy on all the lows. I am also day trading, well swing trading and practicing this buy low, sell high, so when my big bags explode, I don't just sit there staring at a screen lol and watch them pump then dump, nope..On EVERY ATH I take profits and rebuy on the downside. I have decided though not to buy any unnecessary items until my money is working for me and I grow enough assets and capital to relax a bit. This is a frugal Xmas for us because am just starting to get on my feet. I will buy myself a bitcoin cookie cutter though, from amazon, that's my treat to myself lol.

Honestly, I wouldn't be able to purchase the gifts I want with bitcoin especially in my location right now, but I could easily convert some bitcoin to fiat currency to do this and I am thankful that I decided to wait for an improvement in the market before doing this, I was supposed to get the gifts earlier today but I just couldn't bear to sell any part of my bitcoin at such low prices so I decided to wait for an improvement in price, that improvement just came tonight and I am thankful that I waited.

The best gift you could give to yourself this Christmas period is to buy yourself some bitcoin, I have a feeling that the year 2020 would be a good year for bitcoin and you definitely do not want to miss out on that.

Since the Mid 2019, I already said to myself that I will buy a new computer before the year ends and that is what I did. I didn't care about the price of Bitcoin anymore as long as I can buy my computer for future use.

I sold some of my Bitcoins to buy a computer and I don't feel any regret for it even I know that the price of Bitcoin right now is considered at its lowest. I believe that Bitcoin will rise as always in mid to long term especially in 2020 as the halving of Bitcoin is fast approaching :D.

I was shocked when i saw the price of bitcoin plunging way deep into the $6Ks but i don't think this price reduction is as a result people using their bitcoins. That is merely a small amount of bitcoins, i think this is the work of some whales who have come together to shake weak hands of their bitcoins in order to buy them cheap.

I disagree. I don't think people selling a portion of their Bitcoin stash would cause that much pressure on the price. It's just Bitcoin volatility, nothing to do with Christmas in my opinion. Besides, I don't think there are many people who put their holiday's budget in Bitcoin. That's would be risky and stupid, might ruin your holiday lol.

No, I'm not selling my Bitcoin now. I'm not selling it for my holiday. I have a separate budget for it. Selling your Bitcoin now would cause regret in the future, believe me.

Lol, their speculations are based on random bullshit. They think that since Christmas and New year is coming, people will start selling their coins to buy gifts, thus the price will fall. Do they even know how big this crypto market is and that this small selling won't even affect the price  much? Coincidentally, we have seen the price drop recently (and now those predictors think that they were right haha) but at the same time, it did recover a little.

Its possible that investors are selling their bitcoin to buy gifts since holiday season is approaching and this could be one of the reason why the price is declining (though the price managed to recover already).

At first im planning to use my bitcoin to buy christmas gift for my loved ones but due to the recent price declined I refrain myself from spending my btc.

indeed that might be true because at the end of the year some people will sell bitcoin or other coins to buy gifts for their families or go on holiday abroad because so far we have seen the decline in bitcoin prices always at the end of the year like last year.
Honestly for the end of this year I will not sell my coins to buy gifts because the current coin price is less stable and it is better for me to buy a gift using only cash.

That's pure nonsense. Only noobs can come up with that. Why are investors not cashing out on the stock market to buy lambos, yachts, etc? Stocks keep hitting higher highs.

I don't understand how people can't just acknowledge a simple thing as a down trend, one that started months ago already. Charts don't lie. What's the most likely next move for the price during a down trend and all major moving averages sloping down? Right! It's down. In the same way, what's the most likely move for the extremely bullish stock market? Right! It's up.

Also, the price didn't recover, it is just one of the many bounces. Nothing in the market has changed.

I didnt find much places which accept bitcoin as the payment in my locality. So, I am going with "selling to buy Xmas gifts". Though I have my own savings in fiat for the gifts, but I would need to spend some satoshis too in case I go short of money.
That is actually the hurdle between bitcoin becoming a widely accepted mode of payment. There aren't many places where we can use BTC. We need to support the utility of btc in order to make it widely accepted.

This year I spent some BTC on a gift for MYSELF because I'm very attracted to me and I can't think of anyone else who could possibly deserve it more.

I attempt to make Xmas revenue neutral so spend whatever comes back my way over the season. It's way more fun setting a budget, going somewhere cheap and emerging with whatever you can find. There are usually some surprising results.

I'll tell you this: some people could liquidate some of their holdings to buy xmas gifts but the impact that has on the market price is close to zero. Retailers don't move the market, they just follow the market. Unless a deep pockets investor deloads a big part of their BTC to buy a yacht or helipad or God knows which I think is very unlikely, you can't attribute market dumps to xmas gift purchasing. It's funny when you think about it  :D

Many people sell coins for this very reason. Christmas holidays require a lot of money to buy gifts, decorate the house, spend a vacation. Massive sales of Bitcoin lead to its decline, however, I am sure that the market situation will change in February when the holidays end

I don't sell bitcoin for Xmas and year-end, just sold altcoins to cash out enough for my expenses.
Many reasons why the bitcoin price drop but one thing for sure, more people selling bitcoin than people who buy it.
Aside from that, we don't know the exact reason why the market at such a condition, probably miners generate so much bitcoin and it's time to get more cash for Xmas and year-end.

In my country, there is a very little option where I can spend my bitcoins directly. To be honest, I am converting some of my bitcoins to buy Christmas gifts and use some for holiday vacation. Maybe others are also doing what I am doing but I do not think that is enough to move the price this low. There is more to this dump than just the holiday season.

I will never use my bitcoin for this purpose because I have my spare money for the presents to my love ones. Right now is not a good time to sell your bitcoin especially if you bought your bitcoin beyond $10k. I think the price is down because people are selling not for the purpose of the gifts but to escape from declaring their whole profit this year end to avoid paying big taxes this is just my speculation, and bitcoin can’t move much if I sold mine so I think its really not the reason of dump.

I support you. I am sure that it is better to find other money to buy New Year's gifts than to cash out Bitcoin when the price is so low.

I think it already the thing since bitcoin was not yet accepted in a lot of stores a lot of users probably already sell their bitcoin since the bitcoin market price was already on the downside,
And also they cannot buy anything on bitcoin yet they needed to convert it to their local fiat money in order to use it to buy gifts in Christmas,
There is a few stores online where you could use to buy a gift that accepts bitcoin but since it was limited a lot of users will going to choose to convert it.

I know bitcoin will surely bounce back so it’s fine I will just hold on to my remaining coins and hopefully will be able to get back what was lost once the bull will come.

I am selling my coins for anything I want to buy, but not all my coins, I am going to be saving some of them because it's not down to $4k yet, that's the rate I bought at.

Where I live you can't buy anything with cryptocurrency, but you exchange it before buying whatever you want, unless you decide to make use of BitPay to buy gift cards and purchase from Amazon or any other stores you want, but that's still the same as selling your coins. And I don't purchase from Amazon because the delivery is not instant where I live, there are other online stores that will deliver whatever I purchase that very day, so I don't see the need for using Amazon.

I did convert a bit into an amazon gift card like I do almost every month. It's not a big deal really, usually  €100-200. Maybe once every 2 years I get a new phone this way, sometimes other junk. I'm going to buy a small gift for my girlfriend, something silver most likely. These are always little things, so I doubt that if people were doing the same there would be bearish pressure on the market. I'm usually buying at least €500 of BTC every month and €100 (usually the one that comes from sig campaigns) gets spent.

Honestly, I don’t hope for Santa Claus and I don’t hope for Christmas gifts, because I myself hope only for my strength.  Recently, a very difficult financial situation has developed in my life, therefore it is thanks to the cryptocurrency that I have in my main income, which limits me very much.  Based on this, in any case, all my purchases occur at the expense of cryptocurrency and primarily thanks to Bitcoin and Ethereum.

I'm not using my coins to buy Christmas gifts, but I bought some Christmas tree decorations with my coins..  not payment with Bitcoin.  I converted my Bitcoin into my country's currency..  there hasn't been a Christmas decorations merchant in my country that has received payment in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

I would use bitcoin but I don't buy Xmas gifts. I don't give in nor have time for this commercial crap. I will never understand why people get so excited over the holidays. Xmas is a pagan holiday now it is just a Santa clause capitalist bs. Good for those making money though. Millions of idiots buying dumb shit for other people so they can buy dumb shit back for them.

"I will give you a $50 gift and then you give me a $50 gift" lol people selling things laugh all the way to the bank.

There are nice special deals and things so I will use bitcoin to buy them unless it's an instore deal then I need to use fiat.

"Bitcoin goes down because of holidays" is a myth, it doesn't make sense, what kind of investor sells their assets just because it's holiday? Have you ever seen this happening with other markets, like gold or stocks? No, it doesn't happen with them, so why should it happen with Bitcoin? It's true that we have more retail investors than on traditional markets, but retail investors don't go 100% on Bitcoin to the point when they have to liquidate some coins when they need to spend money.

I was lucky enough to buy some bitcoins when it went below $7000 yesterday (18 Dec 2019). Today it’s over $7100. There is no best time to buy bitcoin other than current rate. If you have capacity then don’t hesitate to start buying bitcoin right now, that’s best gift you can give to yourself for coming Xmas.

Some of us are selling in other to purchase Christmas gift and some other things in preparation for the Christmas and new year Holly day that will commence from tomorrow. Am particularly selling because some of the things I want to buy cannot be purchase with the use of Bitcoin and any other crypto currency.

Don't you have enough cash? In my mind, it’s not profitable to sell Bitcoin right now, because now it’s a high time of the bear market
Well, it was a difficult decision for me to have sell at this bear market but just I have no option other than to sell portion of my Bitcoin for a faith Currency in other for me to handle some expenses in preparation for Christmas and New year.

I've actually prepared a few Bitcoin paper wallets as Christmas gifts this year, they're only small denominations of around 0.01 to 0.05 BTC, but one day they could be worth several times what I paid.

I used this site (https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/holiday-design/) to print some basic designs—they're not great but they're quick and easy. Printed on laminated paper so they'll last a good while.

Beyond that, I think it's best to not mix crypto and presents, since most people will probably not appreciate what they get.

from this thread, I know that most bitcoin holders always sell part of their bitcoin to use to buy gifts and celebrate Christmas. actually very loss if we sell bitcoin at low prices like today. because it is forced and finally the need for the end of the year the price of bitcoin always decreases because many sell bitcoin. I think this habit must be changed. We should always set aside some of our money or salary as much as 5% or 10% to be saved and used to celebrate Christmas at the end of the year. so when christmas comes we don't sell bitcoin to celebrate christmas.

I don't really give gifts that much during holidays. Only to selected people like my parents and siblings. Then the rest I don't give much gifts since I'm still a student and my other relatives don't expect me to have some gifts for them. But when buying gifts for my family, I just sell little bit of my hard earned money, of course it was also for them. Then buy them gifts.

so my question is how do you exchange you btc to fiat  ? only online and not locally  ?  ( ex. local wallet , exchange ) because if there are local exchangers on your country there is a chance that you can find store that supports btc because btc is legal on your country  .

exchanging btc to fiat is stil the best possible way to shop because you can purchase items easily on any shops   . we can also give our btc directly as a gift as long as the person knows something about it  .

So, watching the price of Bitcoin going down, made me think of reasons why this might be happening now.  ::)  I saw the news of the Chinese

scam and the coins being liquidated, but that sounds like a lame excuse for the price going down. A better reason might be that people are selling

coins or using coins to buy Xmas gifts. Let's be honest, it is that time of the year and people are going on holiday, so they need to dive into their

I think there are some who use their bitcoin to buy Christmas gifts but of course, it is still better to hold our coins for now because the price is low and it is not advisable to sell but of course people has also some of their prioritize when Christmas Season that is also why bitcoin is dropping slowly because some of us selling their coins to buy what they need to buy this holiday season.

The problem with paying for things with crypto is because of how volatile bitcoin is they people that run the payment processor you use to pay for the gifts with will sell the bitcoin on an exchange that its API is linked to so they remain stable and don't lose or make much different volatility wise since the sell right away. The fact is they sell for fiat. So bitcoin goes down.

I'm not selling at all. I can by my Christmas gifts with fiat money. Bitcoins are best held in a bear market.

It just looks like a bad idea to sell for 7000 when a month ago Bitcoin was worth 9000 and a month before that close to 10. If it keeps falling I'll never sell. I value more Bitcoin than fiat.

I learnt that long ago.

At the time they'll be pissed off with you for giving them some string of meaningless nonsense. A few years down the line they'll be pissed off with you because it's worth a whole lot more and they chucked it away or lit the Christmas fire with it.

You can of course back it up in plenty of cases but I wonder how many Casascius coins and commercial paper wallets met their doom because of that.

All i can say is more people choose to buy gifts using  fiat for many reasons. First is you only have limited choices if you will use bitcoin to buy things online/offline. Unlikr fiat that you can buy anything you like, so the best choice is sell your bitcoin and convert to fiat then buy what you want to gift .

I don't think people who actually value crypto will be losing their crypto at such cheap price which is today's price to buy gifts in so large volumes that it will manipulate and influence a decline of price! I'm sure many are actually spending it but not so many. Most people love to use fiat to buy Christmas tree and then we pray to Santa to gift us some crypto :D

I don't think this sell-off is due to people selling BTC so they can buy Xmas gifts. Xmas gifts generally are a luxury and if someone doesn't have the money they either don't buy expensive gifts or don't buy gifts at all.

The only time when there might of been a BTC sell-off might of been during the March-April 2018 area because people had tons of capital gains taxes to pay for 2017 they probably had nothing saved up for the tax man so they had to sell to pay their taxes. And this was apparent because shortly after the USA taxes were filed, BTC seems to have corrected even more. However it didn't really last because it failed to make a new ATH. So that would of been an apparent reason for the sell-off prior to April 2018, but not during Christmas 2017.

Holders will save their bitcoin as much as they can so they will not spend their bitcoins for just christmas gift. The price of bitcoin today is too low and selling it is like letting go your opportunities. I have kids and friends and I will not sell my bitcoin just to buy gifts. It is still better if we will use fiat money to buy things as a gift. Spending is really a bad idea because we are still in downtrend.

if you give in the form of bitcoin then the recipient must automatically understand bitcoin or if he is a new user then you have to learn from him. because if a new user must be really guided so as not to misplace to use the given bitcoin

I won't do neither of the two unless something forces me to do purchase things via bitcoins online. Though there are several online available there were times that I need to buy clothes or the likes and the size is not exactly estimable as to only small to large I still prefer on this one. If I'm buying gadgets possibly I would spend my bitcoins.

Thankfully, neither. My day job pays for all my expenses, including gifts, and even leaves me with some $$ by the end of the month to buy and hodl myself some extra cryptos.

IMO, it makes no sense during this bear market that seems to have hit bottom to sell or spend bitcoins, unless of course you have run out of cash  :)

I've been thinking the same way also even if I did invest only the extra money that I have, what in my mind is what is the best and unique gift that I can give to my family and love one. I did not use bitcoin to buy x-mas gift instead I used in as my unique gift to my love one and I am very happy that she likes it as she like's money so much.

And what makes me happy most is that my love one didn't sell the bitcoins after hearing my explanation to her on what is crypto currencies and how we can earn money to it even by investing a little amount consecutively. i think is uncertain about that. buying a christmas present by selling bitcoin does not affect the current price of bitcoin. in my opinion is a lot of news about speculation that the price of bitcoin will fall. so many traders sell to secure their assets from falling prices. maybe on the other hand also drawn for Christmas purposes. I don't give special gifts on Christmas. just a vacation.

Ther are two things possible to why the bitcoin price going down as you said.

1) From china gives native talks about going to ban crypto mining in china and panning to launch own cryptocurrencies it maybe impacts the bitcoins price now.

2) Xmas also one of the reasons for bitcoin price is going down from the past few weeks maybe so many people are planning to celebrate Xmas and giving the gifts to family and friends and their Xmas plans.

Why not giving Xmas using bitcoin where your friend become your gift with investment assets at the future and have double value when bitcoin have higher price later, maybe they will keep holding with your Xmas gift using bitcoin because they will understand how bitcoin price can increase later, when he knows bitcoin will faced moment with halving they will keep hold bitcoin as your gift.

I think it is better not to sell bitcoin at this moment, why not to buy presents using bitcoin instead? Christmas is a season many people celebrate about, selling cryptocurrency is an action many cryptocurrency enthusiast don't want to either, its quite contradicting so why not buy some presents using bitcoin in a sense that we can still make our bitcoin in cycle to the cryptocurrency space, In addition, we aren't just buying gifts using bitcoin but also implying that there is a new way of spending money which is fast, accurate, and digital using cryptocurrency.
