Cryptocurrency investors have been pushed to move beyond Bitcoin (BTC). With hundreds of altcoins to choose from and several seeing some massive gains thanks to the 2017 bull run, investors have had their pick of the litter when it comes to making speculative investments on what they believe would be the next big thing.

However, things haven’t gone particularly well for a lot of these guys. Earlier today, a tweet from a cryptocurrency investor with Twitter handle (@jratcliff) showed the performances of some of Bitcoin’s competitors in the industry since the bullish run of 2017.

Now we know why Bitcoin's dominance over other cryptocurrencies are overwhelming.

It seems to me that institutions, companies and other organizations worldwide are paying their attention more on Bitcoin than Ethereum, Ripple or any other cryptocurrency out there. I mean that they're laser-focused, because it's the mother of all cryptocurrencies.

It's also the main gateway to be converted straight to fiat when withdrawing from your hardware wallet, mobile, exchanges or so. It's just my own point of view though.

When it comes to a discussion about bitcoin outclasses other cyrptocurencies, you can't disregard the technology behind it and only focus on it being investment option. The technology aspect has to explained and why they prefer to have bitcoin instead of other crypto because its where BTC dominates the most.

They are focused on Bitcoin because it's the best performer, simple as that. They don't care about the technology, decentralization and all that stuff, alts were hyped because they showed great performance, they looked like the next cool thing, but now that their bubble has popped, many investors have already jumped the ship.

In my opinion, there are a lot of cryptocurrencies released later, it carries all the advantages of bitcoin and even fixes the disadvantages that bitcoin cannot eliminate. But it still can't get over Bitcoin because of its popularity. Bitcoin is the leading currency, it is known by everyone, while the alt currencies are only used in certain areas. With the possession of many advantages but the advantages do not work for investors, profit is always the top goal, and Bitcoin is always the best profit.

I think it out performs than other physical investment opportunities in this world. The best example is Gold. If you had invested in Gold back then when Bitcoin was being faced on an exchange in 2011 with a small amount of $100. Your profit today will be 10 times lesser than those invested their money in Bitcoin.

There are times that altcoins are more profitable compare to bitcoin because of their big growth is just short period if time. Some altcoins already made a 1000% profit while bitcoin is just 500% profit so for me, bitcoin are not good always and this is why we also need to invest in some altcoins to maximize the market and gain more profit.

And I mostly believed that institutions have been investing heavily on bitcoin even prior to the big bull run that we have witnessed in 2017 and even up to this day keeps on investing it silently. Institutions are very smart, when we thought that they're putting their money on traditional investments, then you have to think again. They are going to look at what's best for their money, and I have no doubt that majority of them chooses bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a working, reliable prototype of digital currency. Altcoins are a replicate of Bitcoin. Sooner or later, people begin to understand that altcoins are just a beautiful shell and no more, and then they return to the roots, that is, to Bitcoin

that is case to case basis only if youre talking in terms of alts. and that is if you rightfully chose an alt and most of the time it is true only for a certain period of time. if you havent caught the train, then the likelihood of losing money is very high.
i would still go for bitcoin as we know that its position in the market has been cemented already.

I as a trader who is always watching the price of Bitcoin every day, I can conclude that Bitcoin is the safest and most profitable crypto investment compared to other coins.
There are several reasons that make me state this.
* First, Bitcoin is the first crypto currency
* Second, many people trade with BTC pairs
* Third, BTC holders have benefited many times with several Airdrops from HardFork on the Bitcoin Network such as BCH and BTC Gold.

Bitcoin may not be the best cryptocurrency so far but what we can not deny is that it is the most accepted and the most popular. When we are talking about cryptocurrency, what comes to mind is Bitcoin, first and foremost. Do we have to wonder then if investors small and big as well as institutional are all gung-ho for it? In the next coming years, I always believe that it will still be Bitcoin that is going to be dominating the field.

Not much of a surprise. When they looked at 'cryptocurrencies', they would surely look at the most popular one, the Bitcoin. And even though it's good to look as an investment, it fails if people looked at it as a medium of payment, especially for smaller transactions. They would know the weaknesses of Bitcoin, in which Ethereum could shine. As of now, it's seen as an investment, but the main goal is to see it as another usable currency applicable to all scales of transactions.

Probably because Bitcoin gives one of the best ROI when it comes to investment. It is one of the safest investment that anyone could find in the crypto space and that it is the first to pump when a bull run comes. Bitcoin doesn't need hype and new announcements to push its price, the altcoins will do that for Bitcoin. It's like Bitcoin is the Master, and this altcoins are the slaves trying to make cryptocurrency popular with that mass which then on Bitcoin reaps all the benefits.

There are basically three altcoins that had gain imense amount of attention during 2017 bull run namely ethereum, ripple and bitcoin cash.

Ethereum = got massive pump and dump because majority of ICO failed to deliver their promises and legal bullshit around ICO
Ripple = unlimited supply and major periodic dump by corporation behind this centralized crypto
Bitcoin cash = bitcoin's fork trying to solve fee issues but at backend few crypto billionaires trying to print more money out of thin air/bitcoin holdings

Bitcoin is actually base currency in crypto ecosystem and it will remain like this in future too as number of adopters and marketcap bitcoin have is massive compared to others

I actually think that bitcoin fame exceeds cryptocurrency. because some people closest to me only know bitcoin but they don't know that bitcoin is a crypto. so I think bitcoin believes that bitcoin outperforms other coins, because the more fame there will be many users who choose it

for as long as altcoins existed, bitcoin investors have been investing their bitcoin in altcoins so that they could increase it. in fact one of the most popular ways that people mention as "ways to earn bitcoin" has always been trading altcoins.

the thing about foolish thoughts such as this is that they never last long.
as you can see even if anybody was fooled into thinking this way back in 2017, they all know that it was a lie since for the past 2 years these altcoins have been dumping without pause or recovery.

bitcoin is dominating without any competition because it is decentralized, secure, immutable and most important of all used in real world as a currency.
otherwise even if its price were performing bad it still would dominate the market.

again same reasons as above.
for instance Microsoft accepts bitcoin but not ethereum, ripple,... because they don't want to see their payment reversed because these centralized altcions decided to roll back some blocks as they have done in the past..

It so happened that the bulk of investors accepted Bitcoin as the main cryptocurrency. It's not about its technological superiority over alternative cryptocurrencies. Perhaps bitcoin dominates because It is the very first cryptocurrency. There are already many other cryptocurrencies, no less technological than Bitcoin. But investors do not want to buy them, because it so happened that the success of Bitcoin believe more than in altcoins.

I can't say that they are replicate.

But I think altcoins is the version of Bitcoin based on the creator of that altcoin. They are not replicating Bitcoin but they are wanting to create something that they think can help people and give them profit.

Well what can you expect. Being the coin that started it all, and with it's uses proving it has more relevance than any coin in the market, of course it will outclass it's crypto competition, if it can even be considered as that at all. Even if some coins prove to be more advanced when it comes to technology, i guess the fact that investors still veer towards bitcoin proves other coins still has a long way to go to catch up.

One obvious reason why bitcoin remain so dominant and the best crypto options is that it's the first and given the fact that many media are now covering bitcoin trades more than ever. Of course we love altcoins as well, however, bitcoin has a good track record.

Most altcoins are still down 90%, while bitcoin has slowly bounce back, just around 60% from its' previous all time highs.

In my opinion, because bitcoin is the first digital coin in the world and is known to many people compared to other altcoins which are only alternative coins from bitcoin, and besides that bitcoin is a safe and profitable investment instrument compared to other digital coins or all altcoins.
and there are still many advantages of bitcoin that I think are better than altcoin and can't deny that bitcoin is the best cryptocurrency so far.

The popularity even among noncrypto users makes it really outstanding among others. Because try asking a noncrypto user if he knows about crypto, and he will ask if it is about bitcoin? With this popularity, merchants and other institutions are banking on it as compared to its competitors. Though there are other advantages like tx fees and faster speed for other alts, yet, they still come second of choice. We can't deny such influence when a certain entity is deciding which crypto is to be used within their payment system.

We are in a market where price movements are very volatile. But I still think the most stable bitcoin. Some new altcoin prices are good. A sharp move in the price of bitcoin affects the whole market negatively.

It is natural that the grandfather of digital currencies is performing the best and is getting heavily invested in right now, more than other digital currencies because it is like investing in roads and highways for having the first cars on the roads. Smart people will invest in the infrastructure, and that is what BITCOIN is, the infrastructure to mass adoption. Of course there will be some very huge gains for certain cryptocurrencies and tokenized projects in this year and years to come, as just like there are different cars and brands of computers or phones, there are different crypto currencies or projects backing them that people will want to invest in if they see potential. I plan on investing and trading in some low cap coins and will gradually build my Bitcoin through trading and playing with the other currencies. Bitcoin will be a decent asset class currency to hold over time and will be performing well I think.

The entire initial focus of investment will remain towards bitcoin, so far what has happened to altcoin is only manipulation, they cannot push economics independently, the crypto tendency to be regulated will only focus on the extent to which bitcoin can be used and connected with fiat directly as a facilitator, not with altcoin.

It is natural to happen, every person or group would want bitcoin because bitcoin is a pioneer of cryptocurrency.  Although the price is too high, it does not deter people from being able to buy even have it.  In addition, bitcoin is a gateway for exchange from crypto to fiat currency.  Almost all websites that support cryptocurrency payments are already integrated with bitcoin payments.

Back in 2017, I thought that Bitcoin was getting less important and the vast variety of altcoin projects and use cases seemed inspiring and dominant over a very limited Bitcoin. And while people profited a lot from investing in Bitcoin, many ICOs also brought people crazy profits. The profit by the end of 2017 was great, especially if we take into account that there weren't many people who knew about Bitcoin in its very early days, whereas there were many more people enjoying the profits from coins like Ethereum and IOTA since the market got popular already. It's the losses after that time that were overwhelming and way higher than with Bitcoin. So right now, after all those losses, I think it's true that Bitcoin gets most of the attention, and it seems fair that it does.

I agree with you. Since only Bitcoin can prove that it is the safest crypto investment, it makes sense for people to focus on Bitcoin. Everyone must know that altcoin season seems still far away, while Bitcoin probably to have a good season in 2020 or 2021. So, they prepare themselves for this, while trading weekly to get faster income. Then, they leave altcoins that have too complicated problems.

In most cases that doesn't really matter to people. If it really mattered, we would see the transactinal activity on altcoin networks increase exponentially, but most are either flat or in decline. The reason people complain about Bitcoin's fees is that they actually use it and have no desire to shift to something else for actual use.

Bitcoin is on its way to take even low transaction fees and faster settlement away from altcoins through Lightning. It can't get much better than fees of just a couple of satoshis and instant settlement. In fact, you can already use it even though it is recommended to use it with low amounts only. Moreover, there is also more privacy when you conduct payments through Lightning.

Though the volatility sometimes isn't that "safe" but the market capital of bitcoin gives us sense of security by providing enormous liquidity therefore we can cash it out anytime when we need and it's really different if you compare with alts that are relatively low in liquidity that could hinder us from cashing out our money and therefore could potentially lost our money.

Bitcoin has several advantages, some of them are as follows:

It was the first cryptocurrency and the project that brought the novelty of blockchain technology, that is always an advantage, because mentally people are inclined towards the known brand.

The mining system and its difficulty have raised the cost of production of each BTC, this is a factor that affects the price increase.

Bitcoin is the most used and accepted cryptocurrency and people have greater facilities to convert FIAT money.

Since there are big businessmen and a high volume of people using Bitcoin, then there is a lot of speculation and this becomes an attraction.

In short I think that the Altcoins have lacked a truly aggressive strategy that I bet on practical use, in doing so, you can make a big difference.

I think everyone knows why bitcoin always outperforms other cryptos in investment because it is bitcoin that can provide huge benefits. although at this time many altcoins are popping up and have better technology than bitcoin but it still cannot beat bitcoin in terms of investment because bitcoin is the first and foremost coin in cryptocurrency and we know that almost all altcoins follow the movement of bitcoin. so do not be surprised if most crypto investors prefer bitcoin to altcoin.

bitcoin is the main crypto that first appeared before other crypto, people trust bitcoin more than any other crypto, bitcoin is more widely known than other crypto, most altcoins tend to follow the bitcoin price movements, so bitcoin is more the center of investor attention than any other crypto.

i clearly see we no need to ask why BTC outclasses another crypto currency.
why ? bitcoin is the most recognize coin by general people, but besides it of course we need another reason to put bitcoin is the best investement option.
and the reason is ( from my opinion,of course) satoshi it self , he/she still believe his coins since beginning,i guess he/she is humble person.

So far this year, the market share of Bitcoin in the cryptocurrency market has increased from 45% to around 69%. And most of this increase has occurred after 2019 April. Investors are realizing that most of the current altcoins don't have any practical usage, and they are trying to survive by leaching off Bitcoin. There is a lot of movement from alts to BTC (i.e people are selling their alts to purchase Bitcoin).

bitcoin is indeed quite profitable this year as price movements increase from the middle of this year, and what you say about people selling altcoin to invest in bitcoin is true because some of my friends do that, the goal is to minimize the losses that occur

Bitcoin price-wise this year was outstanding compared with other altcoins it amazes me that for the first time it price was a little bit stable as we approaches Christmas season which is always synonymous with hodlers or investors exchanging their btc to fiat for buying of stuffs and goods invariably or resulting to a little dump in its price however this is year the price is well stable this season an indication to a bull season come 2020.

What's new? We all know that bitcoin is dominating and far ahead from other cryptocurrencies. There are thousands of other cryptocurrencies out there yet bitcoin is still at the top simply because we've been trusting bitcoin since then. And trust is hard to earn. People who are investing in bitcoin is rapidly increasing that's why it remains dominating.

Price being too high is not a problem if it can be obtained by the decimals or in other word small portion of bitcoin. This flexibility is what gives or make people who want to buy bitcoin being able to buy it easily without worrying about how much money they needed to invest and yeah, the fact that bitcoin always have a fiat pair whether it's local currency or USD also contributes.

Don't know what organizations you're referring to, but I would agree that bitcoin is the cryptocurrency that attracts all the attention and most of the investment money out there.  That is as it should be, IMO.

And there are too many altcoins out there to choose from anyway.  Some of them are good, but most of them are absolutely terrible and should be avoided at all cost.  There might be bargains to be had right now, but damned if I know which coins they are and I bet a lot of investors are feeling the same way.  Most coins ought to just die off and get delisted even from sites like coinmarketcap and coingecko.  I know that's not going to happen, but it should.

No doubt about that, bitcoin has always been and will be the number one best store of value in this industry. Most altcoins are basically worthless and their investors are full of remorse right now. In the upcoming years i hope most people will learn from this experience and not jump into any project that pop up into this space. At least hold some bitcoins for the future profits.

When it comes to fiat conversion and market demand I think Bitcoin is the best option among the cryptocurrency to invest in since there are lots of third party exchanges that converts Bitcoin to cash and that makes us worry less if ever we invest in Bitcoin, but in terms of profitability I think new established promising legit altcoin is way better than Bitcoin since it is just on its infancy stage and price would possibly balloon to more than 10x in just a short period of time. 

Bitcoin tops every altcoin at all times. Ever since I knew what was cryptocurrency Bitcoin has been my favorite, and it’s the only cryptocurrency that has gained wide adoption, unlike altcoins there are lots of online marketplaces where you can spend your Bitcoin and it’s being used by a lot of people, so you can as well send payments to people. Apart from being the more accepted Bitcoin it is also a better investment.

My friends invest in altcoins and from the results they get, I can say that Bitcoin is far much better, unless they have invested in the wrong altcoins. I am not trying to say that there are no good altcoins, there are good ones, as of recent that has been ChainLink, and BNB did well this year and 2018 as well.

bitcoin will always outperform other cryptocurrency because bitcoin is the first in cryptocurrency and bitcoin provides a greater advantage than altcoin. These two years the majority of altcoin has lost its value many investors who suffered losses. Therefore, investors are now more confident in bitcoin and that's why bitcoin currently dominates the crypto market by 68%.

The Bitcoin dominance in the market seems to be going up, once again. During the past few weeks, this parameter has increased from ~66% to 69% now. The only thing that worries me is that rather than due to its own merit, the dominance is going up due to the lack of interest in the other cryptocurrencies. Ethereum is down because the roll out of ETH 2.0 is delayed. LTC is down ever since the block reward halving. Some capital has moved from alts to BTC. But even after all that BTC is not looking very strong.

I also believe this, that bitcoin is the best cryptocurrency for quite a lot of reasons. one of which is without bitcoin, altcoin doesn't exist either, and bitcoin also provides innovation to the development of altcoin and the most important thing for me is that bitcoin has helped enough people to earn income.

The main reason why bitcoin outclasses other cryptocurrency is because it is the most trusted coin in the cryptocurrency scene. Even though the value of it is unstable, it is gonna be easy for it to recover because it has so many investors. Some investors tend to check the ranking of the coin first and as we all know, Bitcoin is on the top list that is why they are investing into it.

Yes, people have become better versed in cryptocurrencies, we have more information about fraudulent projects, so I think now to attract serious investment can only projects that are really already in demand in the market. People are tired of empty promises from teams of fraudulent projects. The future is for really promising cryptocurrencies with working prototypes of their platforms.

Because in fact it is the only cryptocurrency that will help you get rich.
