Title: Now YouTube is flagging Bitcoin and crypto-related videos?
Post by: cheezcarls on December 24, 2019, 08:35:26 AM
Some prominent cryptocurrency channels on Youtube have seen their videos removed today. It’s unclear how many major channels have been affected thus far, but three have been confirmed.

Could YouTube be cracking down on cryptocurrency-related videos? According to recent reports, such an operation is going on as we speak. Three prominent YouTube channels specializing in cryptocurrencies report that they have been subject to content-flagging today. The move was completely unexpected and has left many in the blockchain space wondering if this may be the beginning of a bigger operation.

Should I move away from YouTube?

I just don't know what to believe, but I honestly think that YouTube isn't gonna doing this by surprise. If they do flag YouTube videos about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, they should have updated their terms and conditions, and their rules about uploading content.

In the article, it also mentioned that there are a group of mass flaggers who might be behind this mess, especially for top crypto influencers out there. There are even cases that after appealing, YouTube reinstated their accounts because of false flagging.

What does this mean for crypto YouTubers like me? If I decide to move to another video sharing platform, I would prefer decentralised and censor-free type of platform.

What are your reactions to this one guys?

I've seen a lot of scam giveaways running on Youtube for a long time. Yesterday I even found a validated Ripple account with thousands of bots following and commenting at live-chat.

I think youtube has messed up a lot with their security I'm not sure if they have knowledge of these scams, although I have reported these a dozen times.

Perhaps they are trying to figure out the scams and they are so clueless that they are actually deleting legitimate crypto videos.

Here is the actual iink: https://beincrypto.com/youtube-allegedly-flagging-popular-cryptocurrency-related-videos/

Anyway, the article itself is poor. The author didn't even bother to contact YouTube to ask what is going on.

Well, this is not true in my opinion. YouTube has been just monitoring its content. It's normal and in my opinion - it's pretty great that YT takes care of their users' safety. Good content on YT isn't banned, check out for example this channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvg2metJsWiVXnT0bIOadvA (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvg2metJsWiVXnT0bIOadvA) where professionals talk about current situation on the market.

Because recently, there have been a lot of youtube crypto related videos that promoted ponzi scheme or blatanly promoting scams and phished link. See here: Scammers on Youtube. Don't fall into this scam trap and lose money, guys (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5198456.0). And probably more on the  Scam Accusations (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0).

And those scammers video are being reported by many users that prompts Youtube to shut them down. And probably they hit another alarm here, so expect Youtube to change their ToS as far as crypto related videos are concern.

If this is real, that's very unfair of YouTube. But I don't think it's true since various contents can be found in YouTube and I don't think they'll specifically target cryptocurrency related videos. If ever YouTube will do that, they'll notify users and crypto channels of course. YT hasn't done any move against crypto so I doubt it. Maybe someone just reporting some crypto videos? That's more possible.

What wrong with bitcoin and cryptocurrency and not have allow by Youtube channel, there are many bad content upload in Youtube but keep allowed like violence tragedy but Youtube still available for every one earn money with their ads by promoting violence videos, its not fair if Youtube want to try not allowed bitcoin and cryptocurreny promote in youtube.

Honestly, there is no reason for YouTube to remove cryptocurrency content. Perhaps this is an accident, I don’t know for sure

Should I move away from YouTube?

Yes. You can try Dtube:

https://d.tube/

Which is linked to Steem and Steemit. To find out more, see the following article:

https://www.valleyarm.com/so-what-is-dtube/

Quote
To understand DTube we must first talk about and understand Steemit, a blockchain-based social media platform that launched in July of 2016.  Essentially it’s a Reddit-type service where anyone can earn rewards by posting, curating, and up-voting relevant content. Monetary rewards come via a cryptocurrency token named STEEM, and in US dollar-pegged tokens called Steem Dollars. So think of Reddit (i.e. users post links, and vote good content up, and bad content down) – but every user who participates gets a monetary reward.

Decentralized Tube (or DTube for short) is a YouTube-like video platform that is built as an application on top of Steemit.  So it’s on the same platform utilising the same rules but specifically for video content. Essentially, users post videos, and are rewarded for creating and uploading content.

And obviously you can post your videos onto Steemit and earn Steem for them.

Steem and Steemit have so much to offer the crypto space, I'm kind of sad that people don't use it, and instead stick to Youtube.

Sad to see this. I'm not sure yet what's the motive is for removing these videos. I don't mind if scam videos like "Bitcoin generator", etc are getting removed but this isn't that. I believe this is just false flagging. Shouldn't be happening again after this, I hope.

The idea of moving away from Youtube is crazy. There are just too much good content there. Right now Youtube doesn't even has a close competitor.

I think we need to make more investigation about the matter. Maybe a coincidence is the reason why the videos have been removed, meaning to say that the investigation should focus whether the content creator of the subject channels have violated some strict terms and condition proposed by youtube. Though, I have a youtube channel, there are some videos that they could restrict based on the jurisdiction of the watchers. There are videos not allowed to be watched by certain countries because it might violate their laws.

Perhaps you need to see how YouTube will act a week after these events. I think it was a mistake to delete a video about crypto. On the contrary, the crypto community is growing every year more and more, which means an influx of new users to crypto content. Blocking such content will mean losing a large audience.

Many of this platforms may not be able to function properly if their natives coins remain stagnant. Blockchain economy model is quite different in my opinion. So we should be mindful of deviating from it.
I think people should be thinking of a new ways to keep the economy of cryptocurrency sustainable long-term. I would even prefer communities of promising cryptocoins to voluntarily delist their coins from most Centralized exchanges and have coins on few exchanges they could refer people to buy them  from. I think this can restore some of the projects to their former glory.

Communities should also be willing to brainstorm on ways to attract hundreds of millions of people allover the world. This is one of the main advantage government-backed companies have over decentralized cryptocurrencies.

People should learn to be alittle tolerate of so called shit posters. They're probably the ones who need these decentralized platforms the most.  I believe they will learn to be a little perfect eventually with rewards and punishments.  This doesn't mean great writers should be discarded. Not at all. Would be better to have them at the top & as role models for poor writers/content creators. And they must have other good qualities like hardwork, skills, talents, passion...

YouTube does not prohibit crypto-related content, there are still many crypto campaigns on youtube videos, in my opinion the problem must be a misunderstanding, because I often see fraud on YouTube under the guise of crypto.

it is because of nonstop crypto scam promotion in youtube
it's reasonable that youtube will delete harmful crypto-related content.
there a lot of crypto scam content on youtube where they talk about coin prediction , coin offering and even add link to their description.
i think that is really harmful for their user its really reasonable if youtube deletes it.

I think giving suggestions and advises about cryptocurrencies on YouTube is not against the rules I have seen many Crypto related videos on YouTube and these kind of videos are still visible there because it was uploaded by following YouTube guidelines and rules so for example if I upload a video about cryptocurrency and tell the viewers about its advantages and disadvantages then I don't think YouTube will block my video but if I only talk about only advantages and ask to the viewers to invest in then my video could be block on YouTube so in my opinion we should create positive and decent content about cryptocurrencies on YouTube so that will be nice.

It's not reasonable because they have no crypto experts employed so you can expect that if they start censoring content it is not going to be done well.
Youtube is mistreating content creators and I know something about it. If many people flag your video they give you a strike but this opens you up to scams and extortions because there are group of people who will flag videos because they disagree with the content. Say something bad about an ethnic group or a nationality and it's going to get taken down because people are no longer allowed to criticize other people in the media. There's no freedom of speech.

Yesterday I even found a validated Ripple account with thousands of bots following and commenting at live-chat.
Most of the comments on Youtube might as well be made by bots anyway.  How many times can people write "who's watching this in [insert current month/year here]?" without it getting really, really stale.

I'm not sure if these are scam videos that are getting deleted, but the folks at Youtube probably don't know the difference or don't care, but it would suck if legit videos were taken down just because they're about bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.  I already can't stand Youtube's policy of silencing the more right-wing content, i.e., anti-feminism and other videos with those viewpoints.  It isn't that I always agree with the opinions, but I don't care for the censorship at all.

And man, there have been some great crypto vids I've seen, especially about mining and other topics that I don't have a lot of knowledge about.  I bet that most of them won't be touched, because there's so many of them and most are obviously not promoting scams.  Hopefully that'll be the case, anyway.

Youtube is not so bad. Have your tried IG??? You can get a block for listing to music in the background of your video. It happened to someone I know and she had less than 1000 followers and like 3 people watching.
That's being a bully. I don't think youtube is quite like that. It sounds like a group of people with altered motives to try to pull down legit youtube videos for some reason. Maybe to be assholes or maybe they competition.
I have never know youtube to be pro-censorship and stuff like this so I can say I confidently believe this is not a crackdown but rather a group of people with some motive behind it.

I think this is already a thing in youtube since the youtube platform was earning a revenue in this kind advertisement,

I don't have any information about youtube but I don't think that youtube is reviewing the company they are advertising in youtube since it was a company I don't they could easily know if the cryptocurrency company was not legit, also they cryptocurrency related videos or cryptocurrency websites are already in youtube for a long time.

Hmm this is suspicious and true what you say, YouTube or Google will not do a surprising thing like this without changing their policies and privacy. I just suspect the communities that oppose crypto are behind it all, they want to gag the channels that discuss cryptocurrency, yeah I'm very sure of that.

They already have their policies written in a pretty vague way that allows them to interpret it the way they want.

If we reasonably believe that any Content violates this Agreement or may harm YouTube, our users or third parties, we may remove some or all of such Content.

So if they decide based on their knowledge that something is harmful to a group of people they can remove it. So, if they decide you're talking about an investment that can lead to a loss of money by some Bitcoin users they can remove the content. This basically allows them to do what they want. This is a problem with terms of service of Internet companies. You agree to them being able to do whatever they want with your account for whatever reason.

In my opinion it's still safe to make content about bitcoin and cryptocurrency on youtube. Because there is no official news released by youtube
until now that forbids creating cryptocurrency content. And after I checked some Youtubers who used to discuss cryptocurrency still safe and no
one has deleted their videos from youtube. In my opinion the article is misleading and the source is also less reliable. In my opinion do not rush
to move the platform to another place, because the audience is not necessarily as much youtube. And try to think calmly and do more
investigations regarding this matter. Don't rush to conclude that YouTube is flagging cryptocurrency. Don't be affected by only from just one news
source.

Maybe they are cracking down channels that promotes pyramid scheme or some sort? because last time I checked the videos regarding bitcoin and some that are for educational purpose still exist with millions of views. If that's the case then it's nothing to worry about and Instead that'd be in my favour. Though, that's the disadvantage of using a centralized service, they just have the authority over literally anything.

Bitcoin is free-market money much like YouTube is user-generated content. As long as you are providing quality content for your viewers there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

If you are promoting scams or even gambling websites there is a chance that YouTube will take you down purely because gambling, betting, etc is against YouTube TOS.

Focus on creating fun, quality content and you won't have anything to worry about - no matter the niche.

I am still seeing bitcoin-related videos as of now. I think Youtube is removing those who are not reported videos only. Or the one's who are promoting ponzi/scam videos that will not be a great help to the youtube viewers. Youtube will not remove just "any" video that they feel to remove but they will make a strong review before doing so.

Here's one strong reason why YouTube usually delete such videos;

This content is for help with videos that have been removed from YouTube. If you need help taking down a video, learn how to delete your own videos or flag inappropriate content.

Up to now, there is no concrete reason why youtube should adopt to cryptocurrency as well. They already have their payment system functioning very and there's also no concrete reason why they need to remove some cryptocurrency related videos as well. When they do it so, people especially content creators that focused on creating crypto related content will lose interest to their site and will try to find other sites, resulting to them losing adopters and might be considered not beneficial for them in the first place.

I think, YouTube is getting tighter every day to filter their videos. really disappointing, but in this context they have policies that seem to be respected as well. but actually in crypto videos it would be better to be given an age limit, rather than immediately deleted by YouTube

this is being warmly discussed and I'm just saying that there might be an error deleting the channel, if I could appeal I don't think it's a problem with the channel about crypto, my channel is still fairly safe at this time, if indeed they want to delete all YouTube content about crypto it should be more many of these channels, but not all of them, mistakes from YouTube if there are no errors and it was intentional because of the new regulations well must be obeyed, I think there is no time to debate this issue we look back before Facebook and others prohibit anything about crypto but look now they make their own crypto, this is a usual stupidity drama and I always say it repeatedly about the drama of big companies on the internet, so let's just look at 2020 - 2021 it scares a lot of people  ;D

It could be that this is only rumors/bad news that was created by several communities that are in contradiction with cryptocurrency I guess. because I see up to now,  the content creators about crypto have no problems there is even a crypto influencer who does live streaming on youtube between Developer, expert analysis to discussing the development of cryptocurrency and Bitcoin price.

I think this is because of the users of youtube or the what we called youtubers that are making videos and content related to cryptocurrency that are trash so the youtube do an action to lessen it as soon as possible so youtube wants to eliminate those videos by flagging and removing it into the content.
Not necessary youtube don't want the bitcoin and cryptocurrency related videos it is just a matter of promoting or playing a scam and phishing projects or crypto related field. I want to know that this is not to down crypto related videos in youtube but to warned those person who are making trash videos under of it.

There are still many videos about cryptocurrency at youtube when I search for it. So it is possible that youtube will only delete videos that are scam, ponzi ... If so, I would highly recommend this job because it will limit a lot of scammer in this market. But if in the near future youtube deletes all cryptocurrency-related videos then I think this market is at an alarming level and we have to be careful because the market maybe bleeding.

Nah if there's a blatant report of videos that sharing some phishing links or scam projects then most users will report it to them. It is the right of YouTube to handle those scammers sharing their scam links. One thing that I don't know yet is if YouTube might have deleted some legitimate crypto videos or vloggers videos. Then I think YouTube decided to remove any crypto related on their platform then.

I don't think Youtube can really take this initiative on because it would really cause them a lot of users and money as well in the end. I would not move away from Youtube because they ban crypto related ads because i still visit there for some resourceful information. I think this is a great opportunity for any crypto project which is directed at creating a streaming platform like youtube for the crypto industry.

What kind of thinking is this? No offense meant. If youtube find some of the crypto-related videos then might as well they should also start hunting down fake and click bait videos. I think your guess isn't just right, if you noticed on the deleted videos, there are tons of negative feedback especially from those trader who just got hooked from youtube because of FALSE ADVERTISEMENT.

Ohh ohhh! This don't look good at all, when you would think things are about to get interesting with crypto, suddenly something bad will be lurking around to strike, why is it now after so many years will YouTube start to flag crypto related videos,  we should be able to enter 2020 with positive vibes.

Some of them deserve it. Sunnydecree promoted bitconnect. He should get a permanent ban on his account for something like that. And that's not the only account involved in promoting scam altcoins. thecryptolark also did things like that. But as you can see you have people like thatmartiniguy on the list as well and he's on the other side of the fence exposing those shitcoin promoters. He also got videos removed so youtube is trying to silence everyone.

The Internet giant says it cancelled everyone's crypto sites by accident last week and that all of them are back online. But checking YouTube says otherwise.

I'm not even Surprised! What I find funny is this stuff actually makes headlines... This has happened countless times with other channels on different niches... The story usually goes something like this > Youtube's AI messes up, lots of Channels get "striked"/get their videos removed for no reason. This is followed by twitter rants and wannabes journalists jump on these stories making all those Clickbaity articles for some "Ad money". Then after a week, everything gets resolved and we see the same outlets reporting stories like these... Oops it was a mistake, Oops it was a rogue bot. Oops that. We get it! We have seen it happening over and over again... Report on something useful! We know the damn routine! smdh...

Looks like Humans are saving the day again... give it a couple of days and the sun will be out again.

This is totally unfair, those videos are for more than 10 years and now they are just removing it saying that he just now follow the community guidelines? I don't think so. I also have a video about bitcoin but it is only 1 video and it is not become trending but if they will remove without any notice then that's not really fair but I think he can appeal from the decision of Youtube about his videos.

I can't confirm that, whether YouTube is trying to ban content about crypto, or indeed they are wrongly targeted. because there is no official announcement from the youtube. it's just that, there are some videos that have been deleted. maybe youtube doesn't want to be part of a scam crypto promotion. because we know, at the moment, Crypto is largely a SCAM. so YouTube participated in eliminating it.

i do agree with youtube of deleting some videos which have malicious intent but not all. there are some videos that are for informational purposes only towards bitcoin and blockchain technology. they should not delete those videos. but its ok for me those videos who are promoting higher returns, passive income and the likes as they are potential scammers with ponzi schemes.
they should evaluate each and every video and not just deleting them whenever it mentioned crypto, btc or blockchain.

No official announcement yet but hopefully its not true because cryptomarket will hurt again. I watch crypto related videos in youtube most of the time and I for me its really helpful to those who wants to learn more about cryptocurrency. Youtube must make a good analysis on this one or else some videos site will have their opportunity to grow and beat youtube in the long run, its their loss for sure so we have nothing to fear and stat positive.

Perhaps YouTube does not separate crypto scammers from the creators of legal crypto content. It’s easier to remove everything than doing research and cleaning (although it’s a shame for such a large platform)

YouTube should make an official statement about the ban on crypto video. I believe that if there is no statement, YouTube will receive negative criticism from many of its users.

Before the official statement, youtube should first state the reason why there is a need to ban and remove the videos related to cryptocurrency. They need to clarify if the content creators are violating some terms and agreement between youtube and them. In my opinion, the proper compensation for the deleted videos should be in return because of the loss in the side of the content creator which created the video.

Most deleted videos have been restored by youtube, so they don't need to be compensated for anything. In my opinion it is possible that cryptocurrency videos violated new terms of youtube and these are unintended issues. So far everything has been normal and no videos have been deleted

What wrong with bitcoin and cryptocurrency and not have allow by Youtube channel, there are many bad content upload in Youtube but keep allowed like violence tragedy but Youtube still available for every one earn money with their ads by promoting violence videos,
It leaves many crypto-related video/content maker hanging in a question "what could be the problem with crypto". Youtube already commented on this and stated it was a mistake from them removing contents related to cryptocurrencies. So what happened was just a wrong call but I'm very skeptical on their move, that was not an error made from  the platform, it was a decision regretted by the team of youtube. +

its not fair if Youtube want to try not allowed bitcoin and cryptocurreny promote in youtube.
Well it is definitely unfair from the side of content makers, however the problem has been resolve by reuploading the deleted videos.

"If Youtube does not allow cryptocurrency-related videos, then obviously they will change their terms and condition. But, then didn't change their terms and condition, yet. That's mean then allow cryptocurrency-related videos.
Maybe they try to find out the scammers. Nowadays, lots of scammers create fake videos and illegally earned lots of money."
