Also, don't forget that you can buy on Amazon[1] using bitcoin through a 3rd party like Purse.io. I just used it once a year ago though, but it worked fine.

For buying gift cards using bitcoin, go with Bitrefill.

You might be referring to Rakuten. Based on their payments options[1] page, it looks like they don't accept bitcoin payments as of yet. You might have misunderstood the recent news concerning Rakuten, as they recently allowed the conversion of their loyalty points to bitcoin[2]. But as far as I know, they still don't accept bitcoin payments.

Could you please clarify on this? Which Japanese "Amazon" are you talking about?

Personally i think mass adoption begins with people in different communities getting the opportunity to learn about bitcoin's basics. So long as many people are ignorant about bitcoin and how it works. Adoption will be very slow.

Technology and companies have nothing to do with people's ignorance it is more about culture.
However companies can make their service that easy to use so any person would like to try it and MAYBE will give up on fiat in order to use crypto.

He's talking about Rakuten. It's really, really not a Japanese Amazon if you think about it. Just because it's an e-commerce platform, doesn't make it an Amazon. They're a lot better at giving fair displays (as opposed to Amazon's pay to get seen model).

And like most Asian platforms, way ahead on digital payments, they've had loyalty points for years. Now you can convert them to Bitcoin is all. Not exactly unheard of and not like Japanese don't already know how to spend (or get) Bitcoin.

Check out https://spending-bitcoin.com/ for over 1000 sites around the world which accept bitcoin. Their forum thread is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5198903.0

You can also get a good list of gift card providers here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5208530.0

Although it's great to spend bitcoin directly, with the option to buy prepaid Mastercards and Visa cards, you can shop anywhere at all using bitcoin, even if they don't accept it and you can't find a voucher for it.

The list is very careful and detailed, so you can find the requirements you need

Overstock.com only accepts Bitcoin through their main desktop site. If anyone uses their mobile site then Bitcoin can't be used as payment option unfortunately.

Unfortunately, Bitcoin payments are not yet accepted through our Mobile website.

On a more positive note, Overstock.com doesn't sell any of their Bitcoin you spend with them. In other words, they do not create additional selling presure. :)
