Title: Lightning on Electrum updates?
Post by: Wind_FURY on December 29, 2019, 11:35:53 AM
The last news I heard was that Lightning features would be out "on the next release". Does anyone have new updates?

Will Electrum be looking for alpha/beta testers? 8)

I have been waiting for this update since I have heard about it. This addition will make LN more accessible for regular users I guess as most of us are comfortable using with Electrum. Anyway, still we have no update version if I am not wrong so we will still need to wait..

Talking about the testing, that would be nice to be a part of 😀

The Lightning branch has been merged with the master branch recently. You should be able to test the Lightning Network support if you compile the code from Github. You might also need to enable Lightning in 'Wallet -> Information'.

This is from the release notes:
https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES

Quote
# Release 4.0 - (Not released yet; release notes are incomplete)

 * Lightning Network
 * Qt GUI: Separation between output selection and transaction finalization.
 * Http PayServer can be configured from GUI

If they've already integrated it into a compilation release it shouldn't be too long it seems.

Off topic; what's the http payserver?

Why don't you just follow them on twitter to see the updates about the lightning network.
Some of their followers testing out the latest Electrum with LN.

Check the progress of this man who keeps trying to test the Electrum LN. https://twitter.com/lukechilds/status/1195760853703749632

It seems that the LN is now working base on his tweet.

I'm almost always wrong with my guesses but it might be something to keep your channel going when you can't access it so it continues to broadcast your current amounts when you're not there... Probably why everyone else can use the ln offline (to receive) and I can't (but it could just be my phone).

Based from the keyword "PayServer", it might be Electrum's merchant website payment processor that previously can only be configured using Electrum daemon.

For the next release, it will be included or there will be an option to enable it in the user interface.

I don’t know why all the focus is on this update, it is better to wait a few weeks after its release in order to ensure safety.
In general, it is interesting to know how it will affect the growth of the lightning network?

Does any one of you know when the development will be on the phone wallets? I think it is better to focus on them because the lightning technology is concerned with daily transactions and therefore it is better to develop the Android wallet more than the desktop.

Thanks for the information. This means very soon we will get the update in their official website. I will wait for that. I was always paranoid and am still paranoid of seeing bunches of files in Github and lazy enough to read which files does what LOL
