Title: A Question Specifically For Mod/s
Post by: cabalism13 on January 02, 2020, 02:28:42 PM
A few hours ago I reported this,... (Because it is considered as a repetitive Thread/Topic/Discussion)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5211577.msg53408276#msg53408276
About 2 times...
The second one was expected to be Bad
And the other one was Good but I am expecting it to be deleted as a respect for the other authors who have made the previous ones. But instead it was just been locked.

Can we now have Good Reports but threads like this won't get deleted or its just a misclicked?
I was just confused for what I know, when your reports has been considered to be good then the post/s gets deleted.

I do not know exactly what happened there, but from what I could think of, it may be a repetitive thread and leaving it open would just create so much spam replies, but the thread may be a good read, so locking it is probably the best option as it'll still be open for users to read, but locked to prevent spam.

Then what if another topic was started just like that, then are we going to expect another locked threads then it will repeat until we have tons of duplicates of good to read threads?

Not always.
Sometimes I treat a report as good, but I don't do anything. Because, sometimes I give the benefit of the doubt.
When I find that there are several topics talking about the same thing, I lock the duplicate(s) and leave a link to the topic that remains open. This is what was done in this topic, so nothing wrong here.
(This is just my opinion)

I would say that it depends on the context and the patience of the mod :)

Just today, the link that I provided was deleted by the thread starter, and then I reported it again but it was marked as Bad, to think that it can stay like that, the user might have this chance to make an abuse especially on translations. User might take a chance to create new self moderated translated topics again, and issue might come again.

Opinions?

Just because your post was deleted you are going to report the thread for the same reason...

Translation threads aren't low value threads, any OP atleast put an effort to translate it to local dialect, unless it's a google translated which is noticeable...

Locking translated thread is the best option, win/win solution, unless it's a duplicate translation of the same thread in the English board...

Moderating isn't about what thread you like to see, or what you want to read... it's about making the forum usable, readable and not censorship...
