I wanna ask about the bitcoins birthday
It's on 3 January ( today ) or 31 October ???
I was saw other members making thread Bitcoins birthday today
But, when i search on google some people say in 31 October ;D

So, how about you guys???

31 October - the date Satoshi publicly published Bitcoin’s whitepaper.
3 January - the date of Bitcoin’s first block (Genesis block).

One more thing, bitcoin.org was registered on 18 August :D

Long story short

[1]satoshi came up with the idea of bitcoin somewhere from mid of 2007 and they were working on the code right then.

[2] As UserU said, bitcoin.org was registered on 18 August 2008. Then on 22 August 2008 satoshi sent Wei Dai a mail about their Electronic Cash project along with a whitepaper. This was the first written document mentioning about bitcoinE-cash. Note that bitcoin wasn't named back then. [3] On 31 October 2008 Bitcoin whitepaper was published with minor changes in the ecash document. The name E-cash was renamed to Bitcoin. The registering of bitcoin.org and publishing of E-cash paper to Wei Dai were only written documents of the not-still materialized project.

[4] On 16 November 2008 satoshi sent the basic codebase to Hal Finney, Cryddit and other several cypherpunks to have a code review on Bitcoin.

[5] On 3 January 2009 satoshi mined the genesis block thereby launching the bitcoin network and on 9 January 2009  satoshi released the software for public use.

So concluding that today is the creation of genesis block/ the launch of bitcoin network and August 22, 2008 was the real birth of E-Cash which was known only to Wei Dai back then.

And maybe you also hear the Proof of Keys things spreading around. Coz on twitter, they are spreading.
I'm just glad that we are doing it on during the Birthday of Bitcoin (Bitcoin's first block/ Genesis block).

It's starting to be a tradition like withdrawing the bitcoins on some exchanges or any platform that you don't have real control over your Bitcoins, in short, you don't have access to the private keys of yours.

Though the publishing of the white paper was of course a definitive moment it was the description of a concept. Billions of concepts have been and gone and never got further. Yesterday 11 years ago is when it became a reality. That's the one that counts to me.

OP question is legit, but we can't say both of them wrong. Because idea of bitcoin (whitepaper) released on 31 October. But on 3rd January Bitcoin takes the form of perfection by creating block number ZERO. And from there, we were able to use bitcoin. So usually we can say bitcoin Birthday is on 3rd January.

On the other hand since 31 October released whitepaper and of course it was most important documents. I think we can say, 31 October is Birthday of bitcoin whitepaper. Although bitcoin is full form of whitepaper shouldn't mixed up. However I don't think its something big issue. Just say thanks to satoshi for wonderful gift.

True, the anniversary starts when the project goes live. Just like how a movie is dated by its release and not by the trailer(s).

On 31th October Bitcoin was conceived. On 3rd January was born. It is the same as you and me were not conceived and born on same day.

Both of these days has some special history but i do not know if there any fix day which is celebrated as the birthday for bitcoin. Yes, we have celebrated the birthday for bitcointalk.org but i never heard of any such official announcement for bitcoin birthday.

It was presented to the world on October 31st. It might have been running around Satoshi's mind for several years. Even so collating and publishing is a key moment but not the definitive one to me.

Can anyone tell us when the software to mine was published? Was it on January 3rd too?
