Title: Will Bitcoin fail if Satoshi is found?
Post by: Abiky on January 03, 2020, 06:43:38 PM
It's now 10 years since Bitcoin was created, yet many people are wondering who Satoshi Nakamoto might be. It's still today, where the creator of Bitcoin has hidden his/her identity well from the general public. All attempts in finding who created the world's most popular cryptocurrency have failed so far. But we all know that there's no such thing as 100% anonymity. A slight error in covering tracks, could expose your identity within the mainstream world.

Now, imagine if the real Satoshi's identity is found. If he/she is still alive, governments would be on his/her tail to put him/her in jail or even pay a hefty sum of taxes. Once this happens, Bitcoin might fail within the mainstream world. Of course, the community is what makes Bitcoin great. But I'm sure that the reveal of Satoshi's identity will have an influence (either positive or negative) over the cryptocurrency's price and reputation worldwide.

What are the odds of Bitcoin's survival once Satoshi is found? Will it continue to operate as is? Or will it fail in the long run? ???

My take is that bitcoin is now beyond Satoshi's control, and it's now far bigger than its creator, Satoshi himself can't order a reversal of what has been gained so far in the bitcoin network. I think bitcoin will draw more attention and more persons will be interested in trading bitcoin since the founder is out, this will then create even more mystery. There are some persons in my network who await Satoshi's return.

By now even if they find out, it will be too late. The experiment has started and is now well decentralized. At the beginning Satoshi would have been passivable for blackmail and/or extortion.

Are you implying that the real Satoshi is a scammer to come up with a verdict like this to start a topic like this  :P. The next halving is coming up this year and the market is expected to rally in the next one year and my doubt is whether you want to know the opinion because of the drama going on regarding the tulip FAKE trust that is going the rounds for a long time.

What are the odds of Bitcoin's survival once Satoshi is found? Will it continue to operate as is? Or will it fail in the long run? ???
Satoshi left the project once he released it and what makes you think that the revelation could make any impact in the market. The project has grown well beyond the creator.

Jail?! What crime did he commit?

Regarding taxes, bitcoins were worthless in the early mining days -- there weren't even liquid markets and price discovery until sometime in 2010 -- so I don't see much tax liability stemming from his CPU mining. And presumably he hasn't realized any capital gains since the "Satoshi coins" haven't moved.

What are the odds of Bitcoin's survival once Satoshi is found? Will it continue to operate as is? Or will it fail in the long run? ???

Would it survive? Yes. Would it be compromised? Probably. I would hate to see Bitcoin with its own version of Vitalik Buterin. That would be heartbreaking.

The discussion associated with the identity of Satoshi will never get to a conclusion. Even if real Satoshi reveals none will agree someone to be Satoshi. Just because Satoshi is found there is nothing to worry, because the technology is independent of any identity and works without any interruptions. Maybe speculators try to manipulate the market and benefit out of the same.

They will try to talk to Satoshi to patent BTC and blockchain just as what CSW wants to do and this I guess will stop all these decentralization everywhere which they also don't like. This will be a terrible situation for all of us. Satoshi left making the project he left to be open source. I'm not sure if its possible to patent all these when its already developed by the devs trying to improve things.

As at now we cannot fall short to remember that; Bitcoin has grown to an extend that it has out grown it creator, as it has been controlled by community and not the creator. Satoshi if found will enhance more positive growth as he will gear the project fast forward. Although, what we have currently are|is faketoshi and not real Satoshi N. He created the project and now moved on to a bigger and a more complex project according to him/her.

-snip- there's no such thing as 100% anonymity. A slight error in covering tracks, could expose your identity within the mainstream world. -snip-
Yes, it is true. But no error can be found so far, right? Even many people try to analyze it in various ways, no one can find convincing clues. This means 100% anonymity is proven so far.  :D

-snip- If he/she is still alive, governments would be on his/her tail to put him/her in jail or even pay a hefty sum of taxes. -snip-
Are you sure to call Satoshi, "he/she"? Don't you want to add "they"? How if Satoshi is an identity of a group of people?  ;D

As long as Bitcoin is unregulated by any country, I think Satoshi has no responsibility to pay taxes. Moreover, governments cannot imprison people without strong reasons, now what is the convincing reason for imprisoning Satoshi? Illegal business?  ???

As long as Satoshi is not taking positions about the future of blockchain or Bitcoin (like some people are trying to do) everything will stay the same.
After I think we all agree about the fact that Satoshi is/was a group and not a single guy/girl.

Bitcoin had became so large and independent that no single individual or even a powerful government could make it a fail.
Though finding the real satoshi may have some negative impact on it's price for a short period.
The pseudonym satoshi considered to be the father of bitcoin is flawless in every aspect.
But when we realize the true identity of that person/team/organization, not every of us would be satisfied.

I think the world is tired enough of Satoshis's attempts that even if we found the real satoshi he would be ignored.

With or without Satoshi Bitcoin it has proven that it can still work, even if one of the great developers of Bitcoin decides to retire tomorrow, Bitcoin will still work.

That has happened before, if it happens again there will only be some volatility and some sell pressure from weak hands. Those who understand the fundamentals of Bitcoin know that satoshi Identity is irrelevant.

You just need to understand that there is no way the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto will ever be known. And as it stands now,  knowing the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto will not either have negative or positive effect on bitcoin and Blockchain technology. This is because bitcoin is widely used in the crypto ecosystem and Blockchain technology has also been worldwide adopted as public ledger for storing and processing data. Its just a waste of time finding the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.

He can't change anything. The network is already too big for anyone to influence it in any way.If Satoshi is found, the main thing that he did not provide access to their wallets where there is a huge number of coins.

Bitcoin will exist because Satoshi will not reveal his anonymity. Bitcoin will cease to exist if changes occur in its ecosystem, however, this can happen for various reasons, not only due to the appearance of Satoshi

In my opinion the fact that Satoshi is an unknown person or entity certainly influenced the early existence of Bitcoin. This mystery surrounding someone who created something as fantastic as Bitcoin has caught the attention of a multitude of people and media outlets worldwide. I think that if Satoshi comes up today, it won't bring much influence on Bitcoin

Nobody knows for what would happen if some day Satoshi is found/discovered but it will get international press coverage. That in-turn will hopefully add to the intrigue surrounding the whole thing and with that a whole new wave of crypto investors and enthusiasts just might be joining the gang.

As for tax issues and jail sentences, it all seems a bit far fetched to me. Do not forget that Bitcoin and various other crypto is now being traded legally in many countries as either an alternative to fiat or complimentary to it. I think it is clear Bitcoin and altcoins and blockchains have gone too far to be able to be shackled or held back now.

I prefer to look at the positives rather than the negatives if Satoshi is ever found/discovered

 ;D

People should actually respect the intention of satoshi to remain anonymous and stop looking for him at all.
Whether he is found or not, that would have no effect on the bitcoin as his role has been non existent for more than 7 years.
Though if alive, he might be active on some other things that may get hype if satoshi were to be revealed.

I think Satoshi could no longer even control what he had created. This technology is developing very big and not just the on / off button

The government will only waste time, or indeed they want a counter system from the same person / group. If the government catches it, it will be a time bomb if it is exposed globally where the eyes of the world will soon open and realize the decentralization of bitcoin is far better than fiat, and speculation will naturally increase.

Satoshi is just 1 out of Millions. It has little or no control over Bitcoin at present since it is open-source. That is one good thing about a decentralized economy.  The technology has developed beyond what Satoshi can imagine from the contribution of the community.

I think this doesn't matter anymore since the bitcoin already has a great start in the market and I think even if we know who really Satoshi Nakamoto or not I think bitcoin will still be a great cryptocurrency because it is already recognized by a lot of company and even by the community. Also, the bitcoin whitepaper is named as made by Satoshi Nakamoto we are not sure at least if Satoshi Nakamoto is really the one who created the bitcoin it could also be a big company or the government or even China could be the one who created the bitcoin.

If Satoshi wanted to be a Vitalik, I'm sorry - a benevolent dictator, he would do so from day one instead of leaving this community. I think the fact that he left strongly implies that he doesn't want to be a single point of failure of Bitcoin, and if it's  true, then this is the answer to OP's question - if Satoshi will be found, he wouldn't do anything to harm Bitcoin, he'd probably comment on it much less then people would expect.

Maybe Satoshi has pass away because if still alive can make bitcoin have lower price because he has many bitcoin allocation in his wallet, maybe he still a live and hidden his self from public for keep his assets safety from hacker. But if Satoshi look still alive will available for selling many bitcoin and make price down, still confused who is satoshi and how much bitcoin assets in his wallet.

In my opinion it will have positive and negative impacts as you say. The positive scenario is that bitcoin fans will celebrate this and more news will be picked up, for the negative scenario as you say, the government will hunt it down and could force Satoshi to bow and stop bitcoin (at that time Satoshi was spreading his own FUD) if that happened.

in my opinion if satoshi is found then maybe it will have a bad impact on the price of bitcoin. because there are definitely people who are not happy with bitcoin and satoshi they will try to capture satoshi and oppress him. or maybe they will also tell Satsohi to delete or weaken bitcoin technology. so this will make the value of bitcoin go down and bitcoin will be a centralized coin. I think from the beginning Satsohi had thought about this so that until now he has hidden his identity so that Bitcoin remains decentralized and moves freely without anyone controlling it.

Most likely if satoshi nakamoto is discovered or his identity is revealed, it will negatively impact the price of bitcoin and the future bitcoin.
Because those who hate bitcoin will press satoshi nakamoto to make bitcoin centralized. This will make a lot of investors are disappointed
and sell their bitcoin, of course the price of bitcoin can drop dramatically. So from that satoshi nakamoto will not never open his identity,
and will always be anonymous. This is done for the future of bitcoin, so that it can continue to grow and develop.

It is not going to fail if Satoshi Nakamoto was found i think if we found Satoshi if will not have a negative effect on bitcoin and bitcoin is already have its own system and life.
I think this could even help bitcoin technology to be used in a lot of countries surely it will be a huge influence on a lot of community if we have Satoshi.

Why satoshi has to pay a hefty sum of taxes? He doesn't own the whole 21M BTC. Many people said that he own 1M Bitcoin which can affect on Bitcoin heavily if he sold them.

I doubt if the government will put him to jail anyway, on what ground? His invention is revolutionary and him being revealed in the eyes of the public might make bitcoin even more volatile. People will be dependent on what will satoshi announce or improve in bitcoin. Maybe he had forseen this that is why he chose to be anonymous which is good for his security.

If ever Satoshi was found, it will bring a huge impact to Bitcoin. It will be one of the greatest news in Bitcoin history and this could affect bitcoin's price positively. This is my own perspective but I see that it will bring a good news. Everyone would be hype with the Creator's identity revelation but for Satoshi, it may be hard for him because he could be targeted by those people with bad intention and the government who will investigate him and such.

the only thing that the revelation of the real Satoshi Nakamoto could cause is a lot of FUD and some short term panic where newbies sell their bitcoin in fear of Satoshi supposedly selling his virtual but enormous stash of bitcoins to crash the market! then price picks up and starts rising with bigger whales.
nothing else would change though!

I don't think if Satoshi is a human being and has gone hidden, he must have taken all the precautions already and calculated all odds that even if he comes out no one would be able to prove he's Satoshi but even if someone does and he shows us his wallet and transacts, Bitcoin price will surely be affected for many years but then again, Bitcoin has intrinsic value along with blockchain so there will still be value and demand for bitcoins :)

The likelihood of Satoshi emerging and recognized publically is slim. Even if Satoshi were to emerge, the Bitcoin as a social/financial/technological experiment will continue. The Bitcoin network effect is already massive along with its open-source code deployed as well as maintained by a group of core devs.

It would not present any risk to Bitcoin, perhaps if it represents a risk to Satoshi, since many are interested in their Bitcoins, it would have to have an extreme type of security.

I believe that the value of Bitcoin is above such an encounter, bitcoin has developed a large speculative market, represents technology at the same time, represents a totally different economy from the traditional one backed by supply and demand, by Blockchain, it would hardly have a negative market impact. Many speculators are only interested in the market regardless of technology or the like. Investors would not move or withdraw their money from the market, they know that the potential there is enormous.

Another week and I guess another "Who is Satoshi Nakomoto" thread.

Regarding the tax liability, unless he actually sold his coins then most likely its not a taxable event. And since many of those early coins never moved out of their coinbase address, its safe to assume they were never sold. You can get technical and say that "he sold the private keys to those coins" which is possible but highly unlikely and risky.

If his identity is revealed will it be negative for bitcoin? Probably since one entity having access to that amount of BTC could set off some fears. However its been years since we last heard from him so we can assume he will never move those coins. Why didn't he sell them when BTC was $20K? So why sell now?

I don't think so, It's already 10years gone, but who knows what will happen if really satoshi will get caught and the government pushes him to break the chain of this system, nothing is impossible, but the main thing is that. I don't believe that Satoshi is not existed here, by this name, another person is working behind this stage, but if they will find the real satoshi then something will happen, from my perception, No one can find the real satoshi's identity because it's also a surname and he or she is anonymous.

On the contrary, I think Bitcoin will pump when/if Satoshi is found.

Crypto enthusiast will get excited and it could bring fresh new blood in the market that could push the price and even goes above the previous all-time-high. And could shutdown CSW for good about his claim of being Satoshi. Well there's a lot of "what if/theory", but we all know that Satoshi will just not simply surface at this time.

I don't think so, because the use of bitcoin is now quite extensive and has become one of the places that gives good results to the user community, so if Satoshi Nakamoto is known today it might be even better because he can explain and develop bitcoin again.

isn't bitcoin decentralized crypto? those who control prices are investors, and users, not satoshi. other than that, I think if satoshi is found, he will only be asked something, or other things by government people, maybe invited to work together for something new, or other benefits, right? that's why Craig Wright insisted on recognizing himself as a satoshi. however, it was too late for the decline in the price of bitcoin caused by Satoshi being discovered. however, I believe that satoshi will not show himself.

I think bitcoin will continue to operate even if satoshi was found. But I wonder if he will really be found or even let himself be found since he doesn't want it to happen at all.
One more question is, if we ever found satoshi, will people believe that it is the real one?

What! no way, if Satoshi is found bitcoin is likely going to see a huge exposure again with intentions that maybe Satoshi Nakamoto can alter the code of bitcoin to increase its scalability. How would the governments ask him to pay taxes on funds he never spent lol. If bitcoin is to be taxed then  i suggest the users pay for it themselves.

I don't think so, a lot of things is already happen, even we find the real satoshi even him couldn't stop bitcoin because he said that he lost her private key and can not control bitcoin anymore so there is no possibility that bitcoin will stop or fall. unless bitcoin has no more value to us and the real satoshi make a new one that can surpass bitcoin's uses.

I think finding Satoshi will not contribute to the failure of Bitcoin.  It can spark a great motivation to the community thus attracting more people to adopt Bitcoin.  Whether he will be jailed or not, we can not remove the fact that he is the creator of Bitcoin.  His presence will be influential inside or outside the jail.

And how can it happen? I can't really imagine or there is no actual reason for it to attract people to adopt bitcoin.
There is also no reason for him to be thrown in jail, creating crypto is not a crime, there are other developers out there created more than one crypto who's name is being broadcast but they are not thrown in jail.

Fixed some critical error on my reply, "we can not remove the fact.."  I am telling about the worst case scenario if ever government exercise their being unjust  to make sure to have control over things and disheartened decentralized believer like us.
It can due to the hype if ever satoshi is found.   If you remember the bullish trend of crypto way back 2017, it is the strong hype that attracts lots of investors during those time, and think if Satoshi will be found, isn't the news about it everywhere?  Togther with it is the idea and propagation of Bitcoin thus creating hype to the audience.

I can't see the reason why Bitcoin would fail if identity of Satoshi is revealed. It's not the mistery of Satoshi that that keeps the value and popularity of Bitcoin.
Also, I don't think that is very likely for identity of Satishi to be revealed. If it hasn't been so far why would that happen now? But like I said, even if that happens it will not influence the Bitcoin.

So, you mean to say that they will try to harm satoshi, threaten him or put him to jail just to control it? I don't believe that it will happen. We can use as an example those faketoshi (the government do not also know if they are real, but they can act quickly to do what they want to them, but they didn't)
There is no reason for a strong hype to happen just because his identity has been revealed. What happen during bullish trend before can't happen again just because of it. What truly increase the price of bitcoin is due to the demand.

Let us say that may happen. We still don't know if he is even alive by now.

It will not fail, but that will also depend on him.
First of all, what is his goal for founding bitcoin?
That sums it up already. I don't think he will talk about how deep the research is or even his wallet private keys.
It will not go that far.

Although there is something that could come up.
Government telling media he is ready to talk even if he is not.
They can create stories easily.

Satoshi is out of the issue if Bitcoin will succeed because he has no control on the adoption and development of Bitcoin, it's a concerted and decision of the community, he is just become a holder of Bitcoin nothing else, because the source is an open one, and I don't think authorities can just arrest him for creating something that revolutionize it, people in the past should have prosecuted the inventor of dynamite, but it did not happen.

Assuming that the man is not yet 6 feet (1.83 m) underground, there can be the time when he might surface or someone will be exposing him. Now, this is also assuming that the name Satoshi Nakamoto really represented a single person and not a group, otherwise we can be barking on the wrong tree.

In case he will surface or be exposed, there is actually no basis for the government to do anything against him nor jail him as I see no law that he has broken by coming up with Bitcoin and the blockchain technology. Plus I don't think any government will be risking its reputation on the line by doing so.

I am seeing that he can even be proclaimed as a great hero especially by people who appreciated and got benefited by things he had done.

Staoshi's presence to the public will surely impacts the market greatly and based from my perception, the likelihood of his appearance's efdect to the market is good, imagine if the creator of bitcoin unravels itself then we could have huge number of adopters to enter the market and many will rush to buy bitcoin just for the this reason. Thought it might be risky for the side of satoshi to appear in public because of his bitcoin hodlings.

I think the bitcoin will continuously run even they discovered Satoshi Nakamoto because he already created the bitcoin. By some instance many people see the potential of this coin for investment and a lot of people put their money on this, and by the time goes by the price of the bitcoin grows up and becomes more profitable. The coin becomes famous all over around the world, and now the cost of the bitcoin is enormous and gives a lot of money and profit to the people who want to use this coin and earn a lot of this. But still many people asking about what will happen if he will found I think one of the primary cause is the market price it depends on him how he manages the market value and the can manipulate the transactions using bitcoin.

If in case satoshi revealed himself, governments would try to arrest him from different countries. If in case arrested, then obviously bitcoin would dumped hugely. If his/her own government like to save him and support his/her bitcoin & blockchain technology then bitcoin would sudden bump. But maximum possibility is for arrest since bitcoin spread worldwide and most of governments against it. But can't destroy bitcoin since its controlled by big community. Most likely that's why satoshi don't want to reveal himself. Who will want to destroy his own made crypto world just for come out and reveal himself. Due to fully decentralized open source system there is no more role needed from creator. In my opinion, just leave it as it is, revealed satoshi would shake whole financial economy.

Would it survive? Yes. Would it be compromised? Probably. I would hate to see Bitcoin with its own version of Vitalik Buterin. That would be heartbreaking.

That sounds like a very strong possibility. He probably would not take centre stage and probably would comment very little and shy away from self-centred publicity.

The fact there has been a constant silence on part of Satoshi for so long means different things to different people. It adds to the aura of Bitcoin.

So far, bitcoin is in the control of bitcoin holders. Price fluctuations that occur due to those who hold bitcoin.
Until now, for many years many people have wanted to reveal Satoshi's true identity but failed.
I am sure he will be the mediator when bitcoin is in a critical period, because he knows how to keep bitcoin alive with all his genius thinking.
Many of us are not aware that we are actually controlled by Satoshi, but are controlled in a positive way that still exists in the realm of bitcoin.

isn't bitcoin decentralized crypto? those who control prices are investors, and users, not satoshi. other than that, I think if satoshi is found, he will only be asked something, or other things by government people, maybe invited to work together for something new, or other benefits, right? that's why Craig Wright insisted on recognizing himself as a satoshi. however, it was too late for the decline in the price of bitcoin caused by Satoshi being discovered. however, I believe that satoshi will not show himself.

You see everything as something very rosy. Do you think that the person who created the P2P financial system of a future will be invited to work somewhere? Do not make me laugh, we live in a cruel world and the first thing that will happen to Satoshi is the capture and interrogation in order to gain power over Bitcoin. That is why he will not reveal himself

It's not about him destroying Bitcoin. It's about how it will affect the price by the sudden appearance of Satoshi. Satoshi created Bitcoin decentralized so basically he can't just control it if he wants to. But Satoshi is a big person in cryptocurrency and it will totally affect bitcoin. Just like how certain news affect bitcoin, Satoshi can also bring either bad or good effect on Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has matured enough that even one million bitcoin hypothetically dumped on the market would not kill it. Sure, it would cause upheaval in the market, but it's nothing from which it couldn't recover. My own theory is that Dave Kleiman was Satoshi. Kleiman is now deceased.

I can not find the relationship between the appearance of Satoshi and the price. Do you think that if the creator appears then the price will skyrocket? Perhaps if he says something his words will have weight, but I don’t think that people, like a herd, will do what they are told

I don't see why Bitcoin would fall if we find the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. In the same way it could rise to new heights. But if Satoshi managed to keep himself private until now I don't see why it would reveal himself now. Maybe he will decide to reveal himself before he passes on in order to remain on our world's history, but that's just a guess.

Satoshi will never reveal his identity. If he wants to reveal his identity he already do it to get the rewards of the pump that was happened in 2017. Or it may be dangerous for him as some might get interest since he knew a lot of things. If you're theory is right then there's no reason to be curious at all.

The truth is that no one can really tell if bitcoin will fall when the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is known or discovered. Because its a 50/50 something.  Bitcoin could either achieve mass adoption or could actual fall when the entire world discover the identity of the brains behind the whole blockchain technology and Bitcoin. But the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto will never be discovered...

Undoubtedly, his genius will definitely be required on some big companies for their personal gains pf course, but in terms of bitcoin's welfare, bitcoin is already bigger than its creator, it has gone to a point where we can't control it anymore, moreso him. So there might be some reduction in its price but this could also catch the eyes of potential investors which will help with the development of bitcoin price-wise.

It will not fail! If Satoshi is found you can expect a dip in price, especially if Satoshi happens to be CIA or a group of a former government employees, especially if that government is controversial. If they were some Japanese or South Korean nerds - all fine but if Satoshi was a Chinese or North Korean operative, imagine the shitstorm that would follow.

In my own opinion, if the anonymous bitcoin creator known as Satoshi Nakamoto was found, bitcoin will be insanely popular that everybody in the world would be interested to buy or invest their money in bitcoin. I also think that the government would do nothing to Satoshi because he doesn't violate anything in the internet, they might ask a lot of questions about him and bitcoin, that is why he intends to hide his true identity just to keep himself safe.

By now even if they find out, it will be too late. The experiment has started and is now well decentralized. At the beginning Satoshi would have been passivable for blackmail and/or extortion.

Satoshi has nothing to do with bitcoin  now. He disengaged himself soon after mining the first bitcoin. Bitcoin survived because of miners community. If he came out now, he could do nothing with bitcoin.

I'd like to believe this discussion but I think it would be better to listen to the people who contributed Bitcoin on what are their take on this. Although I believe that it's a bit too late if they found Satoshi alive (if alive) since the market is way too big already after 10 years. I don't know what would the government ever do to him so I think he won't ever coming back to show himself ever.

In my own point of view, bitcoin will not fail if Satoshi is found because it will definitely make a sudden improvement if that happens because it will be all over the news that everyone in the world would know about bitcoin that they will start to become interested to buy it. I think the only thing that government will do Satoshi is to ask questions about him just like what happened to Mark Zuckerberg, and make him to work with them.

After creating bitcoin, the second exceptional thing was to remain anonymous and be gone. Otherwise he would have easily ended how Assange. He would have been prosecuted as a terrorist against the financial status quo.

If his identity were known now there would be no danger to bitcoin and its value. But for Nakamoto's life, yes.

in my opinion, bitcoin will still continue even satoshi reveal himself
as long as he will not change something that will trigger to imbalance there will be no negative effect if he reveals himself
satoshi is not active for a long time and its impossible for us to trace him using the track of him in the past

Another satoshi-related thread, anyways, here are my thoughts.

There's a possibility that bitcoin might fell but there's a chance it doesn't. Individuals' affection for each thing always has an effect on it so once Satoshi reveals himself in the public. Investors might get off if Satoshi himself wasn't really a good individual, more likely a character that supports wrongdoings.

The other hand of the situation is, people don't really care about satoshi. Most likely, Satoshi will get reacher for his novelty award for creating bitcoin. He will be able to claim his patent and be one of the world's known successful people.

If that happens you can expect a drop in the price of bitcoin and a lot of panic because to most people satoshi alive means satoshi has access to his money and could sell or be forced to sell by government, blackmailed or something.

Bitcoin won't die from such a stupid thing but it will suffer.

my best guess is that satoshi already forgot his privatekeys. anyone who discovers its satoshi will not prove it in anyway but the sign message which is impossible because the real satoshi wouldn't even prove he is satoshi. the weirdo left bitcoin for good. we can't even find the individual who released that mimblewimble protocol, least of all satoshi.

I have learned alot from Satoshi Nakamoto anonymity.  This help in making an inventor focused on his/her private  life, while at the same time creating impact with an innovative technology.
Finding Satoshi is no longer necessary as government has the power to halt the invention if the need be. But it is not visible because Bitcoin has helped to expose the world to blockchain Technology.

No, Bitcoin is not in control of Satoshi, he cannot stop Bitcoin even if he/she/they wanted to.

A slight correction: Bitcoin is currently 11 years old. It started (main net running) Jan 3 2009.

BTW this is the case with all Free and Open Source projects. You cannot stop Linux if you get rid of Linus Torvalds (the infamous "what if a bus hits Linus" argument). With Bitcoin is even better, as Satoshi stopped any developing of it in 2010, and the project has continued without him/her/they.

A decade later nothing has happened, i don't expect anything in the next decade either. If some (or all) of the current core devs disappear, the project would slowdown updates until others take control, but the network would go on just fine. Other projects are less popular and often a 1 person show, those tend to be harmed the most. But Bitcoin has several people involved.

Yup but also it can be a theory if satoshi was his real name and we don't know if he is alive or not. Even they found satoshi there are no really happen when they don't do anything about bitcoin. It can manipulate by satoshi but it can do also by a lot of big investor who bought a million bitcoin when it started during 2009.

I think, Satoshi already knows what he made. it will affect the world. so he hid his identity. this is different from the current developers who choose to put their names and photos in their works. satoshi has changed the world to be decentralized. while the government doesn't like that. because there are no rules. I'm sure bad influence will occur if Satoshi is revealed. but that won't kill BTC. will only drop.

If Satoshi was being found then probably bitcoin will still continue to operate as what it is used to be. Not just because the developer of the bitcoin has been found means the production and the operation will stop already. It is a merely of fact that even though the government will be able to find the real Satoshi, which is very hard to do it cannot stop the operation of bitcoin because many people and also the crypto community will be able to fight when the government force to stop the operation of bitcoin, but there are chances that it somehow affect the market when Satoshi was being found, maybe the bitcoin may dump or whatever happens. Still bitcoin will be successful on the long run just trust on bitcoin.

when talking about government then they always think of control and also power. bitcoin is very different and if there is legality in a country there must be some restrictions on users or large taxes. so it is possible that if Satoshi Nakamoto gives out his identity information then he could be controlled by an institution, but might also be able to develop bitcoin even further.

If Satoshi will be found or know about his true identity, itnis impossible for bitcoin to fail because more people will get to know more about bitcoin which it could have a huge impact on bitcoin's price. Also, Satoshi will be a great danger if a lot of people will know about him because people would steal from him.

Is it really possible for bitcoin to have more people know about bitcoin if satoshi's identity will be revealed? Because I don't think that this is what exactly will happen, bitcoin's price can increase even without knowing the real him so it does not affect at all.
Also, everyone is in danger due to possible robbery or stealing. There is no one is safe with it. If ever that his identity will revealed, there is nothing will change.

Well, the price of bitcoin doesn't just drop when Satoshi is revealed, what's more important is that our identity and our activity in the market, all will get direct control from the government because Satoshi is known as the creator of this system, he knows the structure and operation process, plus the assets he holds, if the government can find him, the government will have the key to manage bitcoin as they wish. However, perhaps sensing danger and importance, Satoshi seems to have become the atmosphere for so many years, people have gradually forgotten the existence and do not want to keep searching.

I'm not sure if someone who developed a technology was arrested because of the technology, and there is no clear evidence. I agree on digital traces, but this is anonymous and Satoshi is also entitled to legal protection because he only makes. and so far he has not committed a crime but crypto users are doing it.

I once read about a thread made by someone who told Satoshi, that he would remain anonymous and would not show himself and if not mistaken it was made a few years ago. in other cases if satoshi is properly captured I think the level of user distrust will decrease and what you say might be true that bitcoin will become dust.

Even his face nor his personal details we just know him by name but we dont know his personal appearance and attributes until he was gone after he have created the bitcoin. And I think if he come back today in the crypto world, most of us will praise him for making bitcoin and instead of vanishing I am pretty sure that the value of bitcoin will rise due to its demand

Besides, if he is found I think they will just put him in jail or worse make him work for them as an employee of an underground agency.  ;D
Bitcoin is his baby, he will not jeopardize anything from which he founded from a scratch.

He might be dead by now or he just don't want to be found anymore. Bitcoin will still stay.

It is very difficult to find him and it is possible that satoshi is dead already. Since then, I don't think he's been showing guts in the media because the real genius doesn't have to be political. Some famous personnel are just going to make him work as a candidate, or perhaps the government is just going to make an issue with him. There are many potential issues that will arise once the personality of satoshi has been identified. Therefore, there is no way satoshi will show himself to the public.

I don't think the price will necessarily fall if Satoshi is found.  However, if the Bitcoin addresses that are supposedly attributed to him are used, then the price would drop because there would be the potential that the market would be flooded with new Bitcoins.

Even if Satoshi mentioned that he might tap into those Bitcoins, it could make the price drop.

I am sure some idiot would try to kill Satoshi and try to demoralize Bitcoin holders by making a martyr out of him. I doubt though that would do anything to compromise its existence due to it being so decentralized and will be mined long after his death I guess anyway. There would probably be some commotion and FUD caused to help get rid of weak hands again so a group of whales can stock up again. I very much doubt Bitcoin would die if Satoshi was ever found but that is just my guess.

It's quite hard for someone to create such a list as we can't really identify which address really belongs to Satoshi. First mined blocks are the only target to identify some of them according to this quote from Hal Finney :
When Satoshi announced the first release of the software, I grabbed it right away. I think I was the first person besides Satoshi to run bitcoin. I mined block 70-something, and I was the recipient of the first bitcoin transaction, when Satoshi sent ten coins to me as a test.
As we can see, at least the first 60 to 70 blocks were mined by Satoshi and the addresses belong to him. You can check them using any blockchain explorer : https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block/1 This is the first block which should be unspendable output as set by Satoshi in the bitcoin protocole.
Some researchers found (https://bitslog.com/2013/04/17/the-well-deserved-fortune-of-satoshi-nakamoto/) that Satoshi mined by himself from block 0 upto block 36288.

There won't be any such implication if Satoshi is found. The reason why he got anonymous is that he created a whole new monetary landscape that directly challenges the conventional form of monetary landscape which involves banks and government. At that time given the regulations and uncertainty, hiding his identity was not a wrong step. But now if he actually comes in front of people. He will be welcomed. Instead of Bitcoin going down, it will grow given the sudden hype.

In my opinion, He clearly went into hiding to avoid being thrown in a cage or tortured by nation states, so I guess he'll be back when the governments are either uninterested or unable to do, or simply no longer present. that means bitcoin has to "win" first, or we'll never hear from Satoshi again. Thereby, talking about failing Bitcoin is meaningless, because Satoshi won't show himself before that day.

If Satoshi is found, there is also a part that affects Bitcoin but letting Bitcoin fail is impossible, because now Bitcoin is held and used by many people to exchange and valuable. Satoshi's influence on Bitcoin is not so great now, and if Satoshi appears, not many people know exactly who it is.

If ever that the government will found out who Satoshi Nakamoto will be in any identity, it will be too late and seems to be no sense anymore because Bitcoin is already a well-known and rising cryptocurrency which is known for being decentralized ever since it was exposed or presented to the public. But it might be possible that once found out, Satoshi Nakamoto will be facing a lot of cases including payable taxes he must paid for the government and individual responsibility. But I guess, the main reason why he/she remains anonymous is to protect his/her own identity of course so that his/her life will be far from danger since Bitcoin is a well popularized cryptocurrency of all times. I think exposure of Satoshi Nakamoto's real identity will not be a concern of the government nowadays because we are still into facing a lot of circumstances in the world that is needed to pay more attention rather than keep on trying to trace someone because of his/her anonymity for creating a well-known cryptocurrency. If ever found out who Satoshi Nakamoto is, I think it will no longer take a great impact to Bitcoin's journey and progress because it seems to be continuously operating and circulating due to the people's demand on wanting to use Bitcoin as a cryptocurrency. Also, the price and usage of Bitcoin gives a big impact that is why it is popular not because Satoshi Nakamoto created it so there will be no connection for Bitcoin's failure once his/her identity will be exposed.

Not about government asking him to pay taxes or whatever, it is more likely people will start losing their hope for Bitcoin as a complete decentralized things. Some people might follow whatever Satoshi says, the other might think that Satoshi are working with government to take any opportunity. Well, Of that happens, I do believe lots of people will only rely Satoshi words which make them lose the meaning of decentralization.

But in my opinion, even if Satoshi Nakamoto was found and still alive I think it might not affect bitcoin so much since bitcoin is already starting to use in a lot of transactions and bitcoin technology is already starting to get implemented in a lot of countries globally. Honestly, it might have a good effect in the market since he was the creator of bitcoin a lot of users and investors could easily be influenced by him and also a lot of companies also will try to hire him.

I think the government cannot touch him since he doesn't do anything or any crime. Bitcoin is still going to operate I think the best example is it is just like the internet bitcoin was consist of a lot of things and it is also the decentralized system we cannot easily take it down like the internet it is going to be difficult to shut down the internet might be almost impossible.

Is there really a factor for bitcoin to increase if incase satoshi will be revealed his identity? I don't think that it has some sort of effect or anything that might trigger its price. The same as putting him in jail. There is no actual reason and what sort of case will be filed against him? Nothing, right?

If the identity of satoshi was ever revealed then nothing will happen, his creation is now completely outside his control, even if he made a statement against bitcoin or how he does not like the direction it took it will be too late, however what it could cause a severe crash of the market is if satoshi still has access to his private keys, it is said that he has one million bitcoins and if governments could confiscate them they will become most likely the biggest holder of bitcoin in the world and could do whatever they wanted with the price.

I prefer to look at the positives rather than the negatives if Satoshi is ever found/discovered

 ;D

Good point. Considering that most cryptocurrencies are traded legally today, it looks very unlikely that Satoshi will be facing jail anytime soon. If his/her identity is discovered, he/she could help guide the project every step of the way. Just like Ethereum (with Vitalik Buterin), Bitcoin would have a "leader" that will be the face of the project. The only issue would be that Bitcoin would be less decentralized than what it is right now. While at this point, Satoshi has done well in hiding his/her identity, we all know there's no such thing as 100% anonymity. Sooner or later, the authorities (or someone) will be able to discover Satoshi's identity by doing a deep analysis of him/her. Governments worldwide might want to use him/her for their own benefit if his/her identity is exposed to the public.

For the good of Bitcoin project, and the Blockchain industry in general, it's best for Satoshi's identity to never be revealed. But most crypto enthusiasts wonder what the implications will be after Satoshi's identity will be discovered (if it ever does)? As long as Bitcoin will be able to continue on its own without a central figure behind it, it'll do fine for many generations. In the end, we could say that we're all Satoshi since we've been working together in order to make Bitcoin the best cryptocurrency for worldwide payments without the need for a middleman. Just my thoughts ;D

Same thought too... Much effect won't be pleaded on Bitcoin but Satoshi Nakamoto.
Because people always love to link events to the price dump of Bitcoin. I am very sure if Satoshi is found many people will always link the price dump to him/her. They will believe he has sold a better part of his coin and it affects the coin. Glad the guy is annoymous.

If the real satoshi gets found i don't think that would be the end of bitcoin because bitcoin is decentralized, that means no one us behind the machine to make it work, with or without satoshi this should move on. And about satoshi, i think if he gets found he would get a room one side of Assange and this really sucks.

assange has full control over previous wikileaks activities, but bitcoin has strong support not only from a few people and also including its founder, so there really isn't a problem for ecosystem sustainability. What satoshi does is not included in the category of crimes that dismantle or attack the other party's system, the existence of satoshi is much more needed when compared to just isolating him under the law.

For me I think that Bitcoin will be more popular if we will know who's the real Satoshi is, as this will be the talk of the whole world and for sure he will get invited by a lot of events, interview in the media so marketing will really boost when that happens, but Satoshi remains to be silent as maybe he wanted his works to be know not him.

Why don't we take it in a positive way? According to me even if satoshi is found, there won't be any impact on cryptocurrencies, crypto has went this vast. Cryptocurrencies being decentralized there's no one to control the crypto nor its creator. It's impossible to find the true identity of the crypto creator. Cryptocurrencies are spreading to that extend that we could'nt even think. Crypto users are increasing to that level we could've never imagine.

Theoretically, if the real Satoshi would be back and sold all BTC he owns in a short period of time (let's say 24h), we could see a true bloodbath and incredible panic on the market. Even a short drop below $1000 would not be impossible.
Well, it would not even need to be a real Satoshi, but someone gaining control over these Bitcoins...

Agree to that. A lot of stories will be invented about him if he is really found, the history of a person can always be twisted to look bad for anyone and media destroys just about anything or anyone when the people behind it are powerful enough like the banks. You can always wonder why Craig Wright weren't getting attention to the media like on TV like CNN and gets bat by media.

in my opinion if satoshi is found there will be more negative impacts than the positive effects that will occur. and maybe bitcoin cannot last long on the crypto market. and maybe Satoshi's survival will be threatened because we know a lot of people who don't like bitcoin. they will try to capture and threaten satoshi. so if satoshi is found it will make bitcoin centralized and controlled.

actually, finding Nakatomo Satoshi doesn't mean much anymore. What will he do if he finds him? while he did not update Bitcoin's blockchain technology and did not develop anything about it. maybe even now he is like other whales and is manipulating the market. Now whether he is arrested or killed, it has nothing to do with the existence of bitcoin. We can see that Nakatomo is useless now, he has no value.

There's no such thing as "Bitcoin's blockchain technology". Satoshi single-handedly created Bitcoin, and the protocol didn't change much from his original work, how can anyone be so ignorant of it?

maybe even now he is like other whales and is manipulating the market

This is nonsense, while no one can tell for sure exactly which coins belong to Satoshi, it is assumed that almost all of his coins weren't touched.

We can see that Nakatomo is useless now, he has no value.

If Satoshi returned today, he'd be very influential, especially if he decided to work on Bitcoin again.

Two things that I think will happen when real Satoshi will be found. First, the government where he is residing will surely protect him and make use of him to continue the development of bitcoin knowing that the bitcoin adaption right now is spreading vastly.

Second, the US will surely try to intervene with the real Satoshi identity and they will surely try everything just to stop the bitcoin by giving a TRO or something that is against to bitcoin founder.

No. Whether or not satoshi is found or not is completely irrelevant.

The team working on bitcoin has had no affiliation with satoshi anyway for the past decade or so, and there has been no issues in the regard of keeping the network flowing smoothly. After all, it's a decentralized protocol that is designed to function with or without a leader anyway.

I see your concern in regards to the centralization that a known satoshi could generate, but I believe that in this more mature stage, the influence he pertains won't pose much of a risk to the wider markets.

I think that anyway, there is a lot of speculation and speculation on this issue.  Nobody can predict how events will develop after the appearance of Satoshi Nakamoto, but nevertheless, even until now, no one can say with certainty who is the creator of bitcoin, one person or a group of people who could also Call themselves Satoshi Nakamoto. In addition, taking into account the fact that a peer-to-peer payment system has an interface in almost 10 different languages, then I can well assume that in reality it is a group of people, not just one person.  Based on this, the development of bitcoin in the future, with the advent of this team, will depend on what will be the perception of these people in society and states in particular.

Tbh, I don't see the connection between the price and the identity of Satoshi. I don't think it will make an impact, it's just an identity, it's not that authorities will confiscate all of his coins, or he will sell partially. He keep his identity secured up to now, most probably his coins or keys is also well secured. Btc is unstoppable, well spread and widely used already for how many years without any trace of his identity. It will only make an impact if news about his coin will be spread, like someone or government get his private keys or tried to get it. Now that is something everyone should be worried. It will surely cause a panic.

Looking at the trend of Craig wright scrutiny I got the knowledge that the Government could be after the 1 million bitcoin kept with satoshi,on the other hand I think Satoshi is more like an organization supported by the government. The 1 million bitcoin is more or less as a government treasury so whoever owns the other 20 million which they also share in and use in the space manipulation. Everyone that comes out will always be discredited and stripped, all satoshis looks more like an actors, they dont look conserved and intelligent for such invention, someone who like privacy and a PHD holder.

90/10, bitcoin will still survive if Satoshi is found because there's negative things that would cause on bitcoin even if he is found.
However, I really don't think we will ever know who satoshi is, this person is very rich now and he doesn't want to compromise his safety for recognition?

Forget about it, Satoshi will remain anonymous and his creation which is bitcoin will survive until massive adoption happens.

People will be heavily judgmental and even persecute Satoshi, its just what happens to most saviors, check the history. People could even loose faith in the technology and it's current effectiveness that works well when theirs a mystery surrounding it.  The mysterium of it all is what makes it so great, it's like who is this guy?

Bitcoin has made its name in the world's monetary system and it is the biggest cryptocurrency today. Surely, if Satoshi will have his identity revealed, it will not only be the government who will chase him but also those wealthy people who wants to take part on bitcoin's success. If they will be able to manipulate satoshi, worst would be for the government, the long run would definitely fail as the system changes and the abuse of power would surely take place as it happens. It will continue to operate but it would definitely be different on what we have now.

The BTC980,000 that Satoshi holds in his wallet is like a ticking timebomb. Chances are that Satoshi will never come online to spend those coins. But in the unlikely scenario of that happening, there will be a bloodbath in the market and if so many coins are dumped, then the exchange rates can crash by up to 90% or more. More than the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, it is this scenario that scares me.

Lol, there are many possibilities that might happen when the identity of satoshi was found. If you think outside of the box, then those scenarios can happen in this reality. We aren't sure of this until satoshi reveals himself and experienced it by ourselves.

Personal revelation also has affections to the market. If you are always in stocks, you'll know what I'm trying to say.

You really think that the real Satoshi is really laughing at the jokers coming out, i am sure he would have responded with a simple singing of the initial wallet and ended all the drama but it is 4 years and that is not the case still as he appeared once when Dorian was outed as Satoshi we saw a clarification that he is not the real person but i am not sure he is enjoying all the fights that is going on if he is alive for a technology he created and that been said even if he appears i do not think it will affect the market unless he is moving the coins as he is having a hell lot of coins to crash the market.

in my opinion if the government finds the original satoshi maybe bitcoin will slowly fade because of course the government will encourage satoshi nakamoto so that bitcoin can be controlled by the central government and other organizations, and when all that happens it is very possible for investors or bitcoin holders will take over to other crypto.

If Satoshi has ever been identified, Bitcoin will have a huge impact. It will be one of the biggest news in the history of Bitcoin and this could have a positive effect on the price of Bitcoin. That's my own viewpoint, but I see it's going to bring good news. Everyone would be excited with the discovery of the Creator's identity, but for Satoshi, it might be difficult for him because he might be threatened by those people with bad intention and the government that will prosecute him and so on.

That is why in the very first place, he already know what to do and decided that for the common good, being anonymous which is in fact he also provided others as well, is the best thing he did to himself. With this, he detached himself from the influence of the world, and to completely not affect the market condition, in which, people who utilizes bitcoin received the freedom to decide for themselves and to decide what would be the best for the market. Now, we are abiding the system, and for sure, he's doing the same thing but with a bit of advantage of having the fruits of his labor, a couple of BTC.

Bitcoin is no longer in the hands of Satoshi, Bitcoin is in the hands of the society that works with this, and Satoschi has done a great job keeping his identity hidden. And wanting to know who the creator of Bitcoin really is is because it is a mystery, and man likes to solve mysteries and find answers.

Why is he intimidated by organizations and bad people? He is not the richest man in the world, and in this world there are many richer people but they still appear in public without any problems. I think that if Satoshi was found, the price of bitcoin would not have any impact, maybe it would make this market more popular. Btw there is still someone in this market trying to prove that he is Satoshi, see what he can do hh

Put him on jail for what crime? impose a penalty for something that he is not yet using or doing, and what government is going to prosecute him, when do not even know his nationality and we don't have any idea if he is an individual or a group of people, even if he is found or even if he is not around, Bitcoin will continue to exist and adopted so far nothing can stop it.

Even if Satoshi Nakamoto appears or is somehow installed, there’s nothing to punish him with even a fine. Bitcoins in his wallet are without movement, in many states they have not even decided on the taxation of cryptocurrencies.
It has been too long for Satoshi to be identified. However, if this happens, it will not noticeably affect the price of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The cryptocurrency is already managed by society and the name of the creator of bitcoin will have little effect on the running process of cryptocurrency development.

Often we get to see people claiming themselves as Satoshi, and this discussion about finding the true Satoshi goes on and on. Until now there isn't any strong evidence to indicate a person as Satoshi. Based on this nothing to worry about the market change based on the identity reveal of Satoshi.

It has already delivered the message of decentralization, it doesn't matter if he found or not as the project is open-source which has continued to get better day by day. So, it will have no effect and finding him is just like chasing a shadow.

As I am trying to be a future-teller here, I think there will be some significant changes in the cryptocurrency community if Mr. Nakamoto is found. But honestly, I am thinking that it won't make Bitcoin fail but it will bring more success as there would be some topics around that will be answered if he is found. Proofs will be validated that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency plays an important role in society just like what fiats do.

In the first place, people who invented the technology greatly affects its condition whenever something happens to them, but completely with bitcoin, proven that it could still work despite of having no CEO or leader to maneuver it, what more it could be if satpshi will be found. In my opinion, just his presence will already drive bitcoin's market price, paving its way up to reach ATH.

yes that's it does not matter if Satoshi succeed is found because Bitcoin will keep to continue to run and will not fail. but it is impossible for can to find it because maybe he is dead and all that's left is Bitcoin which can carve its name for all time.

Probably because people are buying bitcoin with the belief that bitcoin is derelict.  But when Satoshi came back to whether he was accepting Bitcoin as a CEO for his project or if he let things go as they were, the Bitcoincore team took over and updated the project.  There is no set rule for Bitcoin that Satoshi has to agree to compromise, meaning that Bitcoin is completely free.  I think that if Satoshi does not appear it would be better.  People will continue to believe in their financial freedom more strongly.

I do not think that bitcoin will fall when satoshi is found. There is no reason Bitcoin should drop its price hard during that case. Once satoshi reveal himself, I believe that he will make a great revolution, a great change to the blockchain and the system of bitcoin

Bitcoin and blockchain is open source , Satoshi Nakamoto is only made for the general public and may be adopted in all aspects of finance in particular.
if he is found and the government asks for taxes then the cryto community must have many ways to help.

Bitcoin is a free blockchain based idea. Therefore, bitcoin belongs to the society as a whole. If you find a person who invented and created the first cryptocurrency, then this will affect crypto, like any other high-profile events. But Bitcoin is already in use by many people around the world. Cryptocurrency is rooted in our lives. Therefore, if we find out who is the creator of bitcoin, then this will not affect us much. After all, the convenience and prospects of Bitcoin will not disappear from this anywhere.

Same beliefs, I think if one day he decided to reveal himself, people will support more of bitcoin because of confidence that the central figure of bitcoin is alive and can be a great force of influence in bitcoin flight as the major cryptocurrency. It is a positive impact on my opinion and will gain more respect from all walks of life that uses bitcoin.
