Title: This website needs a face lift, it's 2020 for christ sake!

Yeah I think this forum needs a bit of a face lift, it is so dated, no offence, I think this year would be the right time to redesign the forum lads :D

That's your opinion, the forum works fine with me, if(when)the new software is implemented, fine, if it's not, fine. As long as I can still read threads, comment and learn in here, then I'm ok.

I'm not a member of any other forum anymore, so I don't know what kind of advances have been made as far as functionalities and "looks" and all that--therefore I have nothing to compare bitcointalk against and I don't see it as really lacking anything.

I've always been a big fan of consistency when it comes to websites.  It drives batshit insane when sites like eBay keep changing how the site looks and works, and I don't think they ought to be doing that.  A lot of changes that get made aren't for the better, and I'm afraid that if bitcointalk gets an overhaul with this new software it might be very annoying (at least at first).

But I'm an old fart, and I don't like change.  It's you young whippersnappers that want to keep fooling with things, meddling in my affairs and walking on my lawn.  lol

To be honest, I like it more the way it is now. The way that Satoshi created it. It's like watching a noire movie, if you know what I mean.

It has the same atmosphere from 2009. And, as noire films bring back the atmosphere from years (let's say) 1950-1970, so does this forum. Those who like noir films and those who love old things which are unchanged after so many years will understand my point of view :)

Yeah I just took a look over on that sub forum about updating the website and it doesn't seem like much is happening over there lol

If you look at any forum run on invasion community, you will see just how dated this place really is.

And I've been around since 2012 so I'm not a new comer, I just really think it's time for a change of style at least.

NO

Go use Facefuck, Twatter, or Googlag if you want a slick UI.

C'mon, do we need new thread about how Bitcointalk is outdated every day? It's 4th or 5th thread about it in last few days. And complaining about it won't help to release new forum version faster.
Maybe Bitcointalk looks outdated, but in general it works fine, especially on desktop. Maybe it's not very convenient on mobile, but it's also possible to use it. As long as we can read, post and etc without big inconvenience, I don't think that new fancy version is urgently needed.

I think more forums should upgrade to look like this one.  Balls to 2020 and its mindless obsession with far too much whitespace around the edges of the page.

The new forum software has been under-developed and in the bug-testing and improving phase.

You can get links to 2 trial forums, that use Epochtalk software from the signature:

The best way to follow the developing and upgrading process of Epochtalk is observing its Github, but there is a thread of iasenko, that is helpful too: Epochtalk development overview. Current version:1.8.1(2019-12-04) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5206998.0)

This is an unordered list of the created thread with the same issue being discussed and I know there are other threads that hasn't been included in this list, theymos have heard much of it and the epochtalk forum is currently under development and I guess it will take much time before it will be used. I can wait for it, you have no choice as well unless you make one or be part of its (epochtalk forum) development.

It is not necessary, this forum has undergone an operation very long time and everything has always been stable until now. The graphical goodness is not necessary, it should be given priority in terms of data. Think of a forum with a good design but it's filled with ads, so bad to think about it. This forum might work well with slow internet, but if it's interface priority, I think not. So, NO NEED A FACE LIFT

As a basic form it does what it needs to do, but it is very outdated. As outdated as this forum is, I'd kinda like to keep the layout how it is though but just with some improvements and new features which are badly needed. Things like 2fa are essential these days and especially on a tech forum like this. I've been on a few forums and websites in the past where they've done a complete redesign or update and it's always difficult getting used to and lots of people always complain that the previous was better and it's inevitable that this will also happen here. Like when the merit system happened there were threads for months voicing their displeasure and the same will happen when we switch to the new form software. For those of us that use the forum everyday and are on it as much as were are it's going to take some time to adapt but we'll get used to it but it'll take some time.

Not this again. :)

Lets inject botox into it, and have big lips in signatures, or should we have tattoos all over the posting area.

The only "facelift" that it needs is the cropping of quotes.

To be honest it is all about being able to get used to it. With 3 years I have been in the forum I must say that the forum was hard to navigate due to me being new with the interface but after around a week or so I was able to get familiarized with the U.I. and I know mostly how to use the message functions available. Now for me it is much easier to use compared to what I'm feeling with Reddit's new layout so maybe this will be what I'll feel if we will migrate to Epochtalk in the future they key here is for you to be famialiarize with the interface.

+1. SMF templates like this make for the quintessential message board. Keep it simple. I'm not looking forward to the new forum software and I don't mind the feet dragging at all.

2FA would be nice, though...

Like the plain simple and easy to read one we have now. Content is the important thing, so long as the layout does not detract or make it difficult to read the content/posts then that is good enough really. These colours are easy on the eyes imho.

Some additional features and removing some dangerous ones would be sensible though.

maybe it needs some but , I want to this look better, I mean guys who needs a brand new facelift if it loads longer, this one is a forum amd the most important thing here is the information, its better than the facelift right, its a remembrance from satoshi and I wont exchange the look of this site than to a new one whos with me?

Skyscrapers are even built in 1-2 years and I have no idea what's so frustrating with developing of new forum software. The last time I saw beta (it's closed as for now), new forum will be pretty great with modern dark design but as for now we have to stick with this old one. To be fair I like old things and this forum's design is pretty good and it does all that we need except some features that can easily be implemented (for example tagging of someone and receiving notification on that). Famous forums still stick with old design, for example blackhatworld.
If I were theymos, I would possibly add some new styles but would leave ads space on current position to avoid any disappointment from advertisers.

100% Agree with that, and a Redit style would be a reason for me to leave this forum.

Yeah the blue bars at the top are kind of annoying to me. The website just looks very bare. So I simply found a chrome plugin that allows me to change the stylesheets to how I like it, problem solved  :D

Here is what I think the forum should look like: https://i.imgur.com/AP4LDMg.png

Nothing wrong with the software itself, but I think the style needs a little change.

If you are talking of the aesthetics, I'm fine with it. Actually it's still not retro enough for me. I did tried to turn "night mode" on for the site but I would still prefer if it have its own themes so I don't have to run anything else.

Not this again. :)

Agreed, it's really the only thing that frustrates me that I actually have to snip parts of the comment I'm replying to. After just 5 exchanges the latest one already takes up the entire screen. At least contract previous quotes so newer replies don't look cluttered.

Well it is a tadbit outdated but i think its needed for the community, the younger age groups like telegram and discord with another that seemed to fall off. Can't remember the name of it but none the less check out our discord for a kick. Have some cool people in there and we would love to have you.
