Cryptopia was an exchange that i got x10 profits from ETN. sad to heard that exchanges has closed last year, one of the most profitable exchanges i've ever in. Do you think there many more exchange will be closes this year ? i saw many scam-indicated exchanges this year but not confirmed yet, we hope cryptocurrency environtment this year will less scam

you leave one of them here coinexchange.io (https://www.coinexchange.io/) , I see not only on that list even there are still many more out there exchanges that are closed because of bankruptcy from the bear market effect that occurred during 2018 to 2019, I think maybe the lack of altcoin trading volume due to the close of the exchange, maybe if the market have recovered they will come back to increase the trading volume on altcoin

I remember DX Exchange, not even close to functional and then tried another way to continue their operation with merger etc. An overhyped exchange at best.

It's nice to see low-quality exchange getting busted. Hopefully, there will be more so no more stupid money loss.

The only one I'm sad about on that list is Virwox.

Without Virwox existing in the early days of bitcoin, it would have been extremely hard to buy bitcoin. Back then you had to go through loads of hoops just to get your money to someone who could sell you some coins. Virwox, Mtgox and others actually paved the way to bitcoin becoming a viable currency. R.I.P ye olde exchanges!

Sad to them that there are too many of them closes last year. Probably they were going bankrupt and leave the crypto space businesses.
I saw thread also about 2019 hacks exchanges but I didn't find where it is. Probably they had mistakes and weak teams that's the reason they are the target of hackers. I used before a Nova exchange, good thing I withdraw my fund their before they are totally close.

Right! We dont really need lots of exchanges and it doesnt matter if we do have few but do have more quality than having lots
but totally worthless.

Now we are just still on 1st month of 2020 but we do already have 1 bites the dust which is Cobinhood.I wont be surprised if there would
be another exchange would do the same.

Although they don't know the reason behind their closure, most people come to the general answer, which is fraud. I never keep my BTC on exchanges, it's extremely dangerous, but for altcoins it is the opposite. To sell altcoin at a better price, I had to keep it at the exchanges for a long time, but by the time I checked, it was closed  ::) There are two exchanges on the list above that I lost money, they are cryptopia and liqui  ::) Although that amount is not too large, it is a noticeable loss

Most exchanges close down either because they got involved in scams, hacks or just generally not trusted by the populace. This lead to Volume trades in their exchange close to null, which really makes their exchange dead, sadly enough. Letting it close instead of being open where no one is using it is a lot better imo. Had a few tries with Liqui in the past, but didn't really spend much days with it. Lasted about 2 or 3 weeks I think before switching over to Binance once again.

There's probably more exchanges closing in this year and they might not be even mentioned since there's so many exchanges to monitor.

Out of the several exchanges that closed the only one i've used was Cryptopia and it's only because their exchange had the best volume on certain altcoins that wasn't listed on most popular exchanges.

Like me, Cryptopia has helped me to gain a lot of profits in the end of 2017 and early 2018. I have received more than $ 20,000 from investing in Gobyte here. It's sad to see this exchange shut down due to hacker action, and the project I once invested in has also died. This market is now very difficult for new and small exchanges as well as altcoins

Due to lack of regulation on exchange companies that allows these companies to operate and just close down as they choose. The first one that closes down this year is cobinhood and there are more to follow not unless we see another big bull run like in 2017 to fill the hungry pockets of these exchange Corrupt CEO and owners.

And more would probably close down this year. Well, one closes, two opens in the crypto scene tbh. The allure of the crypto market is just way too juicy to miss out on, and as such, the cause for a lot of exchanges to pop up even though they know they aren't going to become reputable in a single night. That's also the cause as to why most exchanges just went about with scams instead of legitimacy since they still had a chance to profit quickly there unlike normal exchanges sadly.

I've tried using Liqui and Cryptopia before, but just used it. Used them close to 3 months then decided to stop trading for a bit. Returned and they already closed down sadly enough.

These are just a few exchanges that have closed down in 2019, the fact that there are a lot of closed exchanges compared to your listing. And of course, I would never choose to trade or hold altcoins on these small exchanges because it could become a scam and die anytime. Idax is one of the leading exchanges in this market but has also become a scam, really scared for this market. It is best not to hold altcoin at any exchange because it is too dangerous, hacker, scammer .... everything that can make us lose money

There's hard competition on exchanges world, even have good system and fund will not guarantee can survive. Built exchanges is not easy and most of them close because can't reach member target and profit. Members is the important part from exchanges and they can get it by promotion ( airdrop, contest, competition. etc ) and good customer services to solve member problem. If exchanges closed because only have little member, low volume or get scammed that only non sense.

i am lucky that never to become a victim of closing exchange, maybe because i am very choosy if where to trust my investment, unless the token or coin i got from Bounty can only be trade in random exchange so i have np choice but to use them but will transfer my bounties to other sites that i trusted.

Until now, I was really lucky to have withdrawn money from Idax a few days before it became a scam. I moved all the USDT money to Binance and bought altcoins there, after a few days I received the news that Idax CEO was gone and no one could contact him. With the exchange closed in 2019, we should use the leading exchanges in this market, such as Binance, Huobi, Okex, Kucoin ... these are the best exchanges and hard to become scam like the small exchange

Good thing. It's natural selection. I don't think we need a lot of centralized exchange anyway. Most of them ended up "hacked" and closed. I'm not even sure if the hacking is real or just orchestrated exit strategy by the operation. Running exchange, holding people's money securely isn't easy and definitely isn't for everyone. Let the best do it.

There is such a victim to these kind of actions. Bankuptcy is common thing in the business. Sometimes it is better to close the business whenever they can no longer fight their competitors, than to lie to their customers. Unless, they have scammed.

no problem, your thread has helped a lot of people, maybe a lot of people out there lost their money from exchanges that were closed because of hacking and others, concerned about last year, but coinexchange closed in 2019 https://twitter.com/coinexchange_io/status/1178990663410442240 but it doesn't matter if you don't add it

I wouldn't really consider Huobi and OKEx to be the best exchanges.

In the more recent times quite a bunch of the PlusToken scam coins have been dumped on Huobi and a chunk on OKEx, and that not once, but multiple times. How come these exchanges don't freeze their funds? They probably are making a killing allowing these scammers to dump on their exchange stealing liquidity from the ecosystem.

Both exchanges have KYC policies in place, so they know exactly who does what with these coins. I wouldn't recommend anyone to use these exchanges. Steer clear of them!

Huobi may mandate KYC but it's moot since the PlusToken scammers used OTC brokers as intermediaries. They also used mixing/coinjoins and generally employed a high level of effort at obfuscation (https://blog.chainalysis.com/reports/plustoken-scam-bitcoin-price) prior to dumping the coins.

For the sake of Bitcoin's fungibility, it's probably for the best that the funds weren't frozen.
