Title: Splitting a thread, how is this possible? I guess its theymos work.
Post by: TheBeardedBaby on January 15, 2020, 06:59:00 PM
How was this thread created? Cutted out from CM thread and pasted as a new thread :o

I guess theymos was involved.
I didn't knew it's possible. Note that the quoted posts do not link to the new ones.

I think I've seen regular mods do it when trolls get out of hand, e.g. in P&S, so it's probably not a theymos thing.

Now why I was picked on in this specific instance - that's the real story. I shall create a dozen threads in Meta about nazi moderation and whatnot.

Wow  :o :o :o Oh my god  :o :o  :o How did you do that? This is my first time seeing such a topic in this forum, even I didn't know the appearance of it. I just checked the main topic and it doesn't have our posts anymore. You have moved it to another topic, but how is that allowed, you are not a mod LOL. It sounds crazy but I really like it  ;D Great job!

Not sure if you're joking or not but to make it clear - I didn't (and couldn't even if I wanted to) do it, a moderator did it.

Sometimes when a thread goes off topic, if the off topic tangent is interesting, instead of deleting the offending posts, they will create a split thread so the conversation can continue. I think it is strange it took so long for the moderator to act on the report, but that is neither here nor there.

When a split is created, all the off topic posts will be moved.

I was not joking  :D I really thought you were doing it somehow LOL  ;D Because I see your post at the top so I thought you had a way to do it  :D I'm silly  :D Anyway, it shows that the mod is always interested in the smallest things of the forum, they are wonderful.

EDIT:

To be honest, I hope they don't be deleted, because those posts are well-meaning, to congratulate, I think that's why it was broken into another topic.

Of course, who else could possibly report it.

[/quote]You are probably right, that is probably why the topic was split. TBH, a separate, or really a PM (as I did), would be more appropriate, but with many people already posting in the other thread, a mod clearly thought a topic split would be appropriate.

I have no idea what you are trying to say. It is possible multiple people reported the posts in question. When gathering information and looking for trends, I don't even look at usernames, only UIDs, and don't memorize anyone's UID -> display name relationship.

If you don't like the rule, complain to the mods. If you don't like that the posts were off topic, complain to the OP of the original thread.

I don't really have anything to not like about it - technically those posts were off topic, so the moderator did the right thing.

Just observing your amusingly predictable behavior.

I'm not surprised with this one because just last this anniversary contest I've seen this done by theymos but I guess global mods or simply mods can do it that way.

Here's the thread that I'm talking about: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5194029.0

It's a built in function to smf. I've been reporting topics like that for a while in tech support when they go off topic, clearly I'm being copied.

I didn't report this one but someone else probably did (I say probably because hilarious might have just split it).

You have a clue here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5217569.0

And yes a mod can split a topic (but can't merge 2 topics (that would be useful sometimes)) and move the split part which is off topic.

Thank you guys, when you think you know everything, there is always something new that surprise you.
So, from now on I know that if a valuable thread has derailed a bit but still good it can be reported and divided in two.
