Title: Selling milk tea for Bitcoin
Post by: cheezcarls on January 23, 2020, 08:46:14 AM
I had a discussion with my parents earlier, saying that they want to start operating our milk tea food cart. We had the cart ready, materials for making the milk tea and so on. Instead of waiting for June or July until the new school building opens, we decided to put our business in a mall rather than the school sooner than later.

My dad was a traditional business style guy. He kept failing because of not being creative and innovative, and sometimes ignoring my suggestions and advice. However, this time, since I am into crypto and blockchain industry, he was thinking about displaying a Bitcoin QR code.

In the city that I lived, there were no businesses yet who accept Bitcoin payments. They do have QR codes, but mostly from a centralized provider and not crypto-related.

I already have my mom's Bitcoin wallet verified, and may need to upgrade it to a Business account as it needs business permit and other requirements necessary. It'll be used for the business anyways.

I think this is going to be a worthwhile experiment, and a great way to start letting people aware about Bitcoin. Maybe I should put some creative promos for those who will buy milk tea using Bitcoin. What do you guys think?

Not sure if this will actually do good for your business since it looks like bitcoin isn't decently adopted in your city, but hey. Nothing really wrong with trying things out. Who knows there might be some total bitcoin bull out in your neighborhood that becomes a regular customer solely due to you accepting bitcoin payments. You can try playing around with Lightning too if enough people pay with bitcoin. :P

P.S. To the other readers, milk tea = bubble/boba tea.

I think accepting Bitcoin will serve you well, especially around schools where you are dealing with a lot of youngsters who surely know what Bitcoin is and likely own a sat or two as well.

What I find lacking is that there aren't all that many local places where we can spend our coins, and that's something you can start to change. I'm pretty confident that it will motivate other stalls/merchants to follow, especially in times where the price isn't all that far from its next parabolic cycle.

I do wonder what the goal is with the coins that people will be spending at your stall. Hold? Convert to fiat?

it's the same as we buy coffee, it looks like the price is not much different from the milk tea you sell, so like this if you use bitcoin I think for payment with bitcoin the transaction costs are very expensive even you can buy a glass of your milk tea, why not sell property where prices high so it is not worth the transaction costs, a little advice to add ETH may be much cheaper with less costs not only bitcoin, I do not prohibit it even I support it and it's cool, but add ETH as a second payment other than bitcoin, your government great does not prohibit all people from buying and selling with bitcoin in your country, continue your campaign

Go for it man, actually I'm a milk tea enthusiast, I just had my taro milk tea :)

Might be first in your place, and people might be curious as what bitcoin is, if you can set up a LN payment as well much better so that it will be instant.

Milktea is a good choice of business. I'm guessing you're from the Philippines, milktea is very popular nowadays. Although competition with bigger brands in the mall is quite hard but I still prefer mall location than school. There's more possible customers than students. Not a lot of students knee about Bitcoin since most students are still not into investing and more likely to focus on school. However I also wonder if people would still choose to use crypto payments when the cost of their food isn't that big. But that's definitely a good idea not just for your family business, but also for promoting Bitcoin. And btw, just make sure that your parents have enough knowledge with crypto and Bitcoin and how to accept transactions. Because they'll be using it in their operating cycle.

It is a good way to add bitcoin as one of your payment options, but there are a lot of things you need to consider before you allow it. The result may be good or maybe bad depends on the market situation, payment goes to your bitcoin wallet might be lower than the expected amount, the result will fall into two types, it can be higher or lower.

I can consider that since the wallet has ETH, XRP and BCH balance aside from BTC.

Yes man, as I love milk tea (especially wintermelon, taro and the all-time favorite creme hokkaido). My sisters and I loved milk tea so much, but of course, we don't drink everyday (controlling sugar even if I'm not diabetic).

No problem with the government here so far, as they are crypto-friendly but regulated for sure.

I am teaching them first before starting to accept Bitcoin payments. We already hired some employees to work in our milk tea business.

Where does your business located? If that is a crypto friendly community then it is good. We should be cautious and meticulous in selecting type of payments in our business. Because if you will never be bought due to the bitcoin payment then I think it will never be clicked. It is good to showcase some advancement and I think it is cool. But you should also look for the sake of your customers.

Even if you business will be set up near a school, you need to check if the students there can afford to buy your milk tea. If its public school (Government run) then there's a low chance that your milk tea business will become successful because you need to consider the students there came to study only and not to stay and have milk tea. Also you need to consider the foot traffic. Your store needs to be visible to may people and much better if its near a terminal.

What bitcoin wallet is this specifically? Just know there such thingy upgrade to a business account.
As far as I know, getting a business permit costs you some. I mean since you guys just starting why don't you use a normal a bitcoin address instead? Sure, people won't bother.

It's a private school owned by the Chinese. The new building is under construction and will be open in a few months from now. That's our original plan. However, we suddenly change it inside the mall.

Within the Philippines. We won't know unless we try, because it's part of getting them aware and to know more about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. I do have a small crypto community here, and they will be our regular customers for sure, because they will help spread the word by taking selfies in our milk tea cart with the Bitcoin QR logo, etc.

Coins.PH. It's regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), and upgrading to Business account is necessary to increase monthly limits in cashing-in of up to 5 million pesos.

If the discount is significant, and you're up for the risk, then go for it. For example, your promotion would be Buy 1 Take 1, then people might consider researching about Bitcoin. Though the problem I see here is the volaility. Unless you're pricing your products in Bitcoin, you'll need to change the price accordingly to its fiat conversion. A QR code could do this, and if you already have the portal to do such instant conversion, then have a try. You may be the pioneer in your locality, and the risk might bring you fortune.

Assume I am your first buyer and I will buy the milk tea that you sell for 2 dollars per 1 cup of milk tea.
Have you considered the cost of sending the bitcoin that I paid for a glass of my tea ?
the fee is still too expensive for me as a buyer who uses Bitcoin.
and don't forget, fast block confirmation will also cost more.

Milktea is in demand now a days in every part of the world. If you will invest your bitcoins in a milktea business you will earn a great amount of money. But if you will accept bitcoins and any altcpins as a mode of payment maybe your business will not probably succeed because not all the people are using bitcoins and also not all of them knows

I dont think it will be a good idea to sell tea for bitcoin. Since transfer rate will be slow n fee may exceed the price of tea. Have you done any homework regarding how much will be price of tea n bitcoin overhead charges.

Before taking decision of this nature, you have to do a proper analysis of bitcoin acceptabilty or usage around the environment you wish to site your business so as to have a clear understanding of what to expect. Meanwhile ensure you have other payment gateway so that non-bitcoin users can also patronize you. The idea is great and can really help your business grow .

As long as your government is fine with it, as you said, they're crypto-friendly, then I guess you can give it a try.

But is there no cashless or instant payment provider available in your country? In Indonesia for example, you have OVO, Dana, GoPay, and something similar. There is also a prepaid NFC card where we can get without registering a new bank account. If those kinds of things exist, I believe customers would also find this interesting. Not trying to be negative but they'd probably use them more than Bitcoin for now.

like the example of China payment using WeChat, but the presence of conventional banks is not eliminated by the presence of WeChat.

Hopefully this is a good start for everybody who has the option to use their money in virtual ways, as bitcoin does. The convenience and fast transactions will be the most efficient strategy to handle your funds on physical goods. Not just with milk tea or any other beverages, but also with restaurant and fast-food chains which you can use your mobile phone scanned through barcodes and Bitcoin transactions will be the modern edge technology of payment.

First, I'd like to congratulate you for being the first business to have bitcoin as a means of payment. I've seen the same kind of business and with a not so different product, if you remember the trending news about the lemonade kids that's what I'm talking about.

Since you have already found out that there's less user of bitcoin in your place so don't be expecting a lot with your test run. But the good thing is that you have it initiated and your parents are okay with it and that's a precious tandem you have. Having this kind of parents is a gift to you as they are open with bitcoin.

Thats a great idea and maybe you will success. But what about the trx fee.If I tell you in our country milk tea 0.10$.then why I will pay 0.2$ fee to make a trx? If your wallet don’t charge fees (like coinbase to coinbase user) then It's ok. But paying fee is horrible for 0.10$. Be concern about the trx fee mate.Best of luck for your business

I will be using the local PHP balance since it is also a Bitcoin address (but stable type) for Coins.ph, but still it’s a great way for customers to be aware about this app, Bitcoin, etc.

When they use the app, transaction fees are 0% (unless they are using a different kind of Bitcoin wallet).

Most of us are still behind how powerful Bitcoin and blockchain technology was. This is the future. I admit that people are still preferring more on fiat than QR code payments, and I can do something about it by starting this massive adoption campaign here in the city. QR code payments are now starting to spread across malls, kiosks, etc., but not crypto.

i dont think people will take time to spend their bitcoin just for a milk tea but that one might work if you are going to put some promos or discount which might attract them.

Of course, that’s why I am planning for some promos. And also I’ll open up to them about loyalty rewards. That would make them come back even more to buy milk tea using Bitcoin.

Are you going to sell it for Bitcoin exclusively or there will be option for fiat payments too? If both types of currency are supported, you're not taking any big risks, so even if Bitcoin payments will be rare, it won't break your business. If you want to increase the chance of getting Bitcoin payments, you should target tourists and advertise your business on the Internet while point out that you support Bitcoin - make sure that your business is added to various Bitcoin shop maps, for example.

If you are a business or a large store, then you can use bitcoin to accept payments. But you are now looking to start a milk tea business, which is like any other cafe. And for this type of business, it's best to use cash to receive payments because it is faster and a lot cheaper than bitcoin. Your idea is good but don't make things confusing. If you use bitcoin to accept payments then I think no one will accept and buy your milk tea

I am hoping that your cryptocurrency experiment would be bearing some fruits. We know that a big problem with Bitcoin is that many (maybe the majority I guess) are more into speculative holding, so they are not going to let go of their stash that easily not unless they really have to. Maybe you can provide something (a special promo maybe) so that you can entice some Bitcoin holders to use the coin to pay their milk tea with it. However, I do admire your inclination to be a very innovative entrepreneur who is always open to new things.

If your target customer is student then Bitcoin is not suitable because Bitcoin is not popular for student. Moreover transaction fee per a milk tea cup is pretty high.

If he use bitcoin as a mode of payment in his milktea business eventually his business will more likely unsuccessful because not all the people are into cryptocurrency they much prefer using fiat than crypto and also there non users of cryptocurrency who doesnt have any idea about bitcoin so how will you able to use bitcoin in your business when right from the start you know that it would be unsuccessful.

Of course my first customers would be my small crypto community. They’ll be the ones to spread awareness about our milk tea business and take selfies with the BTC QR code displayed. Others would be curious and follow, especially that they like promos and loyalty rewards.

Will accept both fiat and Bitcoin. The only thing is that to start adopting Bitcoin payments, I had to implement promos for milk tea customers. Lots of brainstorming needed lol.

This is why it’s better to test the waters first. How can I know if it’s not successful if I don’t make a test run? I just know what to do in order for them to convinced to download the crypto app, load some BTCs and use it to pay for milk tea.

You can help him with the things he can't do. The fact that he is a business minded person is a good sign already. What your family need is just experience and help for some business minded persons too regarding to the business you will create. There are some videos online too that can help you and your business.

In the city that I lived, there were no businesses yet who accept Bitcoin payments. They do have QR codes, but mostly from a centralized provider and not crypto-related.
This will be hard unless there are some people in your place who are using Bitcoin too as another mode of payment. It will be better if you will put your stall into a place where most people are spending their time like parks or malls etc.

I think this is going to be a worthwhile experiment, and a great way to start letting people aware about Bitcoin. Maybe I should put some creative promos for those who will buy milk tea using Bitcoin. What do you guys think?
As I said, you are spreading awareness about Bitcoin. Better put it on a place where most people are there like parks and malls. Having promos when using Bitcoin too is good and don't remove it so that more and more people will use Bitcoin to buy your products. Good luck on your business :)

Great idea it could attract more people into crypto just explain to your curious customer how it works.
I also think that you should name your business into something that could be connected into crypto and something catchy to attract customers.

The only problem with my dad so far is that in most of his life, he is career-oriented. We tried businesses before (e.g., cafeteria, chicken rotisserie, internet and gaming cafe, resto and coffee shop) and all have failed. You know why? Coz’ no matter how I suggest something to my dad that would be a game-changer, he’s so close-minded and stick to what he believes.

I just hope that this time, he learns his lesson and should swallow his pride when I suggest something to him. Opening about putting Bitcoin QR code is already a baby step.

Yes, either way you could back out anytime you want as the payment with Bitcoin is just an option. But man, this a great place to start experimenting as because it is a small business though if things turn out bad it doesn't much affect anybody as the problem will just revolve around your family itself. Anyway, I wanna know the result of this experiment, man. Might as well share this business journey.

Coins.PH. It's regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), and upgrading to Business account is necessary to increase monthly limits in cashing-in of up to 5 million pesos.
Oh I thought it's some random bitcoin wallet.
Considering, you're putting inside the mall then you surely need a business permit. Btw, did you franchise it?
Seriously, even on some streets I see some milk tea carts and some just put it on a table then have some groovy music, then that's it.

Anyway, I suggest you do some special promo for bitcoin paying peeps and with that they'll use it more often than paying in fiat.

quite an interesting business idea, you sell milk tea and want to introduce bitcoin to the public. Promoting those who pay with bitcoin is also a good idea, but don't let you stop payments in the traditional (fiat) way, this prevents you from going bankrupt (maybe only a few or even no one wants to pay with bitcoin), because we all know that prices bitcoin is volatile, can change at any time, and has a transaction fee that is not cheap.

I do wonder what the goal is with the coins that people will be spending at your stall. Hold? Convert to fiat?
Business has its operating cost and others. You can spend bitcoin for that costs. Also, it will not be wise for anyone to spend investment from pocket each time and hold the Bitcoin. They must have to convert it into fiat, otherwise, even they have significant turnover, they will have to bear loss at some point. It's better if they only hold a certain percentage of their profit into Bitcoin.

OP, I don't know how much you will be able to sell your milk tea through BTC, but it's a good step of course.

Unless you're selling milk tea at a big crypto event, and even then... hmm.. it's not really a game-changer. There are a few issues here:

- Not many people have BTC.
- Most of the people who have BTC are hodlers, so they won't buy.
- The people who don't hold, either buy other coins and trade them, lose the money, or cash out and they probably won't have time to buy milk tea in the meantime.

It may be a nice idea, but not practical. One thing you could do is make a local crypto group and advertise to them, maybe a few will buy eventually.

Anyhow the initiative of bitcoin acceptance into small scale business is really good and a much required one focusing the future. Right now the lightening network is under development, maybe the full layered development will make each and every small value transactions get confirmed faster. Already there were few coffee Shops accepting bitcoin around the globe, maybe the one from Op will create good awareness in his locality.

I haven't seen any moving cards with bitcoin QR or crypto on it, though, you have mentioned that your mom's wallet was already verified, this does mean that regulation in your area regarding cryptocurrency is quite good because they allow freedom of people to conduct business with crypto. I appreciate this and might try this out sometimes, but for now, I'll stick with selling prepaid loads to my friends.

They will be using only one specific app, which is Coins.PH for payments. It has a local PHP balance (but a Bitcoin address) which is stable. Transfers are instant and 0% fees. Unless they are using a different app such as Blockchain, FreeWallet, Coinbase or so, expect there will be transaction fees and delay of receiving payments.

Gotta love when different generations join forces to make something great from a relatively simple business.

Of course it would be beneficial for the adoption to incentivise paying with Bitcoin. You could also keep a percent of the payments made with BTC for further appreciation if you believe in a "crypto future".

Small businesses like yours are the backbone of any economy and could represent the main pillars towards adoption. Coffee, milk tea shops are the best places to promote crypto.

Trying to accept bitcoin or cryptocurrency as a payment method through QR codes in your business is a great idea because it could be useful for crypto users who will be interested to buy a milk tea in your food cart. It is also a good try because you are still unsure if your experiment will be successful.

~~In the city that I lived, there were no businesses yet who accept Bitcoin payments.~~
Do you know what is the main reason?
In my country, there are no businesses that accept Bitcoin payment because it is illegal. Only our national currency can be accepted as the payment tool. So, make sure that your government allows the Bitcoin payment for your business.

If the government doesn't allow it, you still have an alternative way. People send their Bitcoin to your wallet --> you pay them in your national currency --> they can buy milk tea with your national currency.

~~I think this is going to be a worthwhile experiment, and a great way to start letting people aware about Bitcoin.~~
It is a good way to let people know Bitcoin. But it means you must adjust the prices based on the current rate of Bitcoin, right? We know that the Bitcoin rate is unstable, you cannot set a certain rate for your milk tea.

Actually your idea is a good idea because basically you want to introduce bitcoin to those who don't know and expand the bitcoin network in your city. Besides that, bitcoin will definitely continue to grow going forward, so it won't be difficult in my opinion to find bitcoin users and make transactions with bitcoin in your shop. So just keep doing it and the spirit, this is a positive thing that must be welcomed.

It may open their idea in accepting crypto, but as really risk, to business owner you should also be aware on the volatility of the market. As much as possible have enough budget for the operating cost so when BTC drops at the moment you'll not sell it at low and simply wait. But if you just accept btc and then just convert it readily then it's no like other payment, those BTC paid should be a lot in your additional trading or investment.

Selling bitcoin through the payment of bitcoin? I think it is quite hard if the payment will be just through bitcoin only and it would be better if it will be just a choice of payment so that the people will have the chance on what payment or transactions they will be made. Why it is kind of hard to establish a business through the payment of bitcoin? Simply because many people are still not aware on what bitcoin is and how it works so it would be better if they will also some choices like payment for cash and cards. The transaction side will be the most convenient way to attract people so you must think it carefully to the end of the business.

You're from the Philippines, right? Please consider this.

Well, it's a great start to promote bitcoin in our country but I guessed it will be just an intro. People will still use the common payment, even GCASH and PayMaya method are barely used in restaurants here even in Ayala Makati. What more in BTC where you need to buy it on legit platforms like coins.ph just to buy milk tea?

I guess it'll be a waste of effort but still a good idea. Think about coins.ph, they require validation so you can cash in and out money, it'll be more hassle for them just to buy a simple milk tea that costs less than 2-3$. This is just my opinion 'cause I knew that Filipinos are very practical and don't want to have complex situations so it'll be hard to adapt.

Yes it is all about combining traditional with the modern way of accepting payments.

Since we are still not in the era where bitcoin will be accepted this might not work.
But it can last long. You won't lose anything from just making an option of payment.

There is a good side here.
People will see it and I thank you in advance for that.
Hope your business will do good and be lucky for a long time.
Maybe someday a someone will bump into your cart and ask questions about bitcoin. Be ready for answers.  ;D

I think it's fine if he can accept payments using bitcoin then it is his right because he is the one who receives the payment while for losses there will be no one who knows how to move bitcoin prices in the future but my advice is you have to accept many cash payments first because the money you get you can use to sell drinks again.

so your business will not stop because there will always be capital for you.

If your country didn't ban bitcoìn as payment system then I think you are free to make it as payment system and I'm sure that is more then innovation. Moreover if the user of bitcoin in your country is very much then it will be a great innovation. The user will try to use bitcoin as payment system because there haven't been any company or merchant who use bitcoin. Seem like you have to update if this idea was applicated, sooner the user of this forum will follow as you have done.

I think its a great initiative and if someone does that here in my city then I would definitely opt for paying through BTC. It may be a dumb thought to spend Bitcoin at this moment for these things but I would do it just to keep the seller's faith on crypto and should be creating more awareness about this.

P. S. The government wont like this if you dont pay service tax on the money you get by selling your stuff. Read about it and be cautious.

I think the problem here is not the acceptance of crypto in their country. What i sense is that people would have just ignore this idea sooner or later because of the hassle that their government needs before you can actually have your own money to be use in stores who do accept bitcoin.

Good idea to introduce bitcoin by adding payment using bitcoin to your milk tea shop.
To realize payments with bitcoin you have to use a wallet platform that supports payments using bitcoin specifically for the products you sell, namely Milk tea.

You can use Coinbase Commerce which is a service that allows merchants to accept payments using cryptocurrency that is bitcoin directly into your wallet that you can control.
Coinbase Commerce will be directly integrated with the products you sell. You can determine the price of your product at checkout and it will automatically be converted to the current bitcoin price.

You can provide a barcode on each product you sell at different prices.
for more details you can read it at https://commerce.coinbase.com/

You're so lucky that you're government embrace bitcoin as a payment method while in some countries bitcoin is being banned in terms of payment or currency. Do you know how many people in your area are using bitcoin and are they willing to spend it? I don't know but people nowadays seems hard to spend their bitcoin especially transaction in the small amount due to higher fee or cost and low confirmation, anyway I agree with you that you might put some creative promos to attract people to buy your product using Bitcoin.

It's a great way to get the word out and maybe you can talk to the local Press and get some sort of interview done, saying that you accept Bitcoin as payment for your great milk tea. I think this will also boost your business as more and more people travel around now and if I were in your city, I would certainly want to sample your milk tea as I am a great milk tea enthusiast. I drink mine with carnation milk, stevia, and vanilla essence. I also like the Indian spicy Chai as well. Give gettign some free press a try and that might do good for your business and for Bitcoiners traveling to your area.  :) Every step to mass adoption is good, and this looks like a way from the ground up to get there. I wish you luck on your venture and never give up.

To be honest, it is really a great idea for you to create a business that you are actually accepting bitcoin as a payment method because you can use it as an investment that you could double your income if a lot of people will purchase a milktea using a bitcoin. More people will also be aware and could adopt bitcoin if they know about your business.

Agree, I think for a small business like your accepting bitcoin is not yet a great idea since the market price is volatile and it could easily go down its price in the market. Im not negative in bitcoin and im actually hoping and believed that the market price of bitcoin is going to pump in the coming years but are you going to Hold it for long term all of the bitcoin payment, I mean funds or capital is important in a business most of the time a lot of business tend to have debt in the bank in your to start their business other than starting their business with their own funds. But still, it's up to you I think if you have your own money I think you could easily sustain your business and the same time having a bitcoin payment method which is great for influencing a lot of people in your area. Also, the bitcoin price is moving in the market is fast so from time to time you need to adjust the price your menu or easily just convert it to your currency equivalent.

Promos if they use Bitcoin as a payment method would be really great.

Your customers would be intrigued to what Bitcoin is. Usually young people wants to buy milk tea, I think it is a trend for them. That would make them curious what Bitcoin is, some already know what it is but do not want to use Bitcoin as a payment method. I tried putting a QR code on my mother's sari sari store, some recognized it some don't but still, no one used it as a payment method.

Philippines is very supported to Bitcoin and milk tea business is booming here too. My sister had a milk tea business too and adding Bitcoin as payment sounds good because there's a lot of Bitcoin owners here in my area. I suggest that you add other common known cryptocurrency too if they requested it instead of just Bitcoin, especially XRP because a lot of Filipino likes XRP because of low fee.

It could be good, but the cons is  when the bitcoin price dumps or dump it would be a problem. You need to update your menu prices regularly so that it would not be hassle. And it is better if you would put your business in a place with high rise building or commercial area since many people in  business now is aware what bitcoin will be.

How profitable selling milk tea by accepting bitcoin as payment transaction? how much your milk tea price per cup and does it looks worth because its have lower price for selling, with in school area maybe you only get little profit and not have way whit getting bigger costumer and available many students have use bitcoin or not?

If you are selling milk tea, for sure you have already profit associated with it, what they did is that they are creating adoption in millennial, we know how much millennials love to buy milktea, and once they have seen that Bitcoin, they will for sure become curious and can do a research from it. So, it's really a good strategy.

I am suggesting it because someone I know advertised their business on local pages on Facebook that their shop is accepting bitcoin and there were several bitcoin supporters came just to try out or have the experience of buying something on a local store face to face using bitcoin. the sad thing is they have stopped accepting bitcoin now I am not sure why and closed their business.

What do you have planned is good enough, but are you sure that there are already enough users of bitcoin there?
Using promos to attract people to use bitcoin as a means of payment is a method often used by startup companies today, which use promos as an attraction.
Then whether your country's regulations allow buying and selling transactions using crypto, if it is prohibited you may be faced with legal issues.

Hey cheez! Totally reminds me of chaiwala business but I guess in PH things work differently! It's super, super cool to see something like this and I hope something comes out of it? I tell you what, I don't know if you will be successful in getting more bitcoin payments, but I know that the media people there would definitely want to feature a bitcoin chaiwala -- maybe even fintech publications and all that. Whatever the outcome, you should milk that publicity and at the very least get people talking about btc.

Do consider a form of lightning payments too. I suspect a cup of tea needs Lightning.

When and if it happens, let me know, I'll give you a small share of bitcoin coverage. I like these sorts of things.

That's kind of idea is only applicable to the country who supports cryptocurrency and in fact, some of them still prohibited to use it. And, the number of stores that accept this kind of payment is still growing and then it may lead us to a cashless society where many people will use digital currency. However, the only problem with this is the government if they will regulate it and we know some of them are against it and it's because of the tax. I guess aside from bitcoin try to add other cryptocurrencies that they can use to buy your product.

ahh boba, millenials drink  ;D
I suggest you to provide infography banner about bitcoin there. Try to tell them about bitcoin and blockchain with fun analogy.
Just like Andrew Courey with his book "early bird gets the bitcoin: the ultimate guide to everything about bitcoin".

Also, I think you need to promote this to a local bitcoin/cryptocurrency community in your city/country. You can make them buy even they dont like boba, because it just interesting for them to have a real-life cryptocurrency transactions on the spot.
You can tag 2-3 social media related to crypto about this. you'll be viral, or at least reposted by them ;D

Wait, dont forget about the stamp, 10 boba = 10 stamp = free 1 boba ---> you can change this free 1 boba, with a scannable bitcoin paperwallet (20K Satoshi maybe) ;D

good luck!

Anything can be sold for Bitcoin and that’s it. So you can sell your milk tea for Bitcoin. But, I have one advice for you: you also mentioned that you father is not a really fan of these, but has been developing interest in Bitcoin because he realized that you’re into it.

I will advise you that you also let him know the risks that are involved so that he doesn’t blame when the price drops and you guys happen to be making some losses after a day sale. He should know that Bitcoin fluctuates so the amount you have in your wallet can reduce or increase, unless you guys plans to be exchanging it for fiat immediately you receive it, it’s up to you. Why I said this is because if you don’t tell him and there is a decrease, he might furious and will blame you.

As long as there businesses that are willing to accept bitcoin as payment then we can use our bitcoin in transactions. I recently saw a milktea in my community that accepting bitcoin as I payment. I forgot to capture that milktea as proof. The awareness in my community is growing and even computer shops are now willing to accept bitcoin as payment for rent.

hmm .. this is actually quite hard. If selling delicious milk tea with credit card payment, the business will become more convenient. And if you do business in front of the school gate and prepare a payment method with bitcoin, that is too imagination. Do you think students can know crypto? Can the kids have enough money to buy bitcoin to pay you? but most of them don't know bitcoin and don't want to keep it in their wallets. with these common knowledge difficulties and customer goals it's too detrimental to your store. Think twice about your customer goals.

You should put many creative promos to help you get bitcoin user customers that will be regular in your shop. My tip is just don't focus on bitcoin alone, you should consider accepting major altcoins too since some of them are already used as payment methods from other stalls/websites. Plus trying to put on a banner that says you are accepting bitcoin and creating a bitcoin wallet is free trying will not really cost much though so you must give it a shot.

About the media site, of course as what I have analyzed recently, any activity related to Bitcoin will be published by small, medium or big media sites.

For example, Crypto Crunch App. I have seen them posting pictures of kids selling some items with the Bitcoin logo. A beggar in China is roaming around asking alms from people, but using Bitcoin QR code and it’s going viral. Even a tiny activity would lead to bigger exposure, and I honestly believe in that.

When our milk tea business opens soon, my small crypto community would not hesitate taking selfies with the QR code of ours, and spread the word on social media, until it can be reached to medium and bigger popular media sites. I can see the bigger picture here in the long run.

Not sure yet about lightning though, because the official crypto wallet being used in the Philippines is Coins.PH.

I think there's nothing wrong about it. Its better to try and fail than fail to try. Having a good intention and purpose in your business is really worth it. I presume you will also accept local currency payments. We all know that bitcoin is not that wide-used by everybody. In your business you need to get profit as well. Otherwise, your intention is to just accept bitcoin and advertise about it.

Creative promos for those who will buy using bitcoin, I'm thinking of giving something like a freebies only for those who will use Bitcoin for payments. Like a limited freebies, what do you think? Or just like what cafe usually do, a card when the customer have to buy 10 drinks to get a 1 free drink. Maybe you can give customers who will use Bitcoin.

But overall, it's a great idea

What's likely to happen here is that you'll draw those people who are into crypto to your place. Great way to get attention for crypto use but i doubt that non holders would exchange their fiat to btc just so they can use it to buy products in bitcoin. It's going to be interesting for users to sit around and talk about something they and you have in common.

Its ok to fail, and don't expect that your business will grow because of accepting bitcoin since there's a lot of things to consider. All generations are becoming interested in crypto, the fact behind young generations more interest is their knowledge and awareness about it. On the other hand older people are not very well known as they have not used this method in their time. If school students will adopt this method and would learn the benefit of it that would be a very good initiative, their knowledge and experience would increase with their age they will become expert at the later time in their life and that would be a benefit for crypto and Bitcoin.

Permit?? Upgrade to a business account? What are you talking about? You can open a wallet and just use it. You don't need a permit. You might need a permit to sell things but how you accept payment is your business. You don't go and get a permit for accepting banknotes do you? You get a permit for your wallet you keep in your pocket? No.... Even with a bank account what permit are you talking about? The only reaosn people use business accounts is because its meant for it. The fees and structure is designed for business instead of just a personal account.

I think it is a very good idea and you should offer a discount. I will also accept crypto when I start my business with a friend. We will offer 10% off if you pay with crypto.

I agree with you. There are so many milk tea brands that I've seen here in my area or in other cities and provinces. It inspires my parents to do our own. However, I told them to always think out-of-the-box that makes customers keep coming back to buy more.

They are very supportive of me in my crypto journey, which is why they want me to try implement Bitcoin payments. Of course, fiat would always be the main payment option. It's just that we will be adding Bitcoin as another payment option and to come up with some promo when they download the crypto app on their phone.

The fees and structure is designed for business instead of just a personal account.

I think it is a very good idea and you should offer a discount. I will also accept crypto when I start my business with a friend. We will offer 10% off if you pay with crypto.

Yes every business operating in the Philippines needs to have a permit from the Bureau of Internal Revenue and Mayor's Permit. The wallet doesn't need a permit lol, and the government here is crypto-friendly (we even have a regulated crypto ATM in Unionbank Philippines). The crypto wallet that I am promoting is regulated by the government and banks, that's why there are upgrade options (highest is business account).

I think taking risks will always bring good things. Therefore, it seems to me a good idea that I want to use this payment method, because I feel that people need more motivation and information to know the cryptocurrency business, and although in another aspect it is not good due to the instability of Bitcoin, You just have to get ready for this. It is a breakthrough for both your business and your community. And I think you could try other cryptos, not just with bitcoin.

That is a good idea but with the very fluctuating price of bitcoin, it is highly recommended that you create a system that can immediately convert it when receiving crypto payments, this idea will indeed be very good to make many people aware of bitcoin, but we also have to consider it more mature so that businesses are we do get good profits and not lose for reasons of fluctuating prices. We can not directly make this payment method to be applied to businesses that are even newly built, so make it in stages and make the right promotions will certainly be better for the development of the business itself.

I think the value of milk tea is very low and people will prefer to use cash in this case over Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.  They send Bitcoin away, it takes a while to wait, and a small fee. Your idea sounds good, but I don't think it will succeed as expected.  But anyway you have a good business idea and it would be a good way to advertise Bitcoin in your area.  Good luck!

Good idea i think you can do that in Mall so that many customers who know about bitcoin will be happy to use and those who doesn't know about Bitcoin will get to know about it. As Wack Slacker said milk or tea cost is less people would definitely prefer to pay cash. The place where your staying is accepting bitcoin well that's cool.

By accepting bitcoin as payment method Bitcoin grows more and more. Good luck Man...

Go for it man, actually I'm a milk tea enthusiast, I just had my taro milk tea :)

Might be first in your place, and people might be curious as what bitcoin is, if you can set up a LN payment as well much better so that it will be instant.

Yes man, as I love milk tea (especially wintermelon, taro and the all-time favorite creme hokkaido). My sisters and I loved milk tea so much, but of course, we don't drink everyday (controlling sugar even if I'm not diabetic).

You got me thinking, I might talk to the owners of two milk tea stores that I frequented in my place and maybe I can discuss to them opening bitcoin as another alternative for payment, I will give it a try.

This kind of initiative is really good for crypto in the long run. It might not be adoption right away, but there could be curious customers out there.  :)

If they agree to your proposal, and start displaying the Bitcoin or crypto QR code with some promo materials, that would be a head start for you.

Your first market would be the crypto community in your area. Imagine if they are going to take selfies with the QR code, posting it on social media profiles or pages, or even making a blog or do some “vlogging”, who knows.

It’ll go viral for sure. Trust me. I have seen some of my friends always taking pictures of some establishments where Bitcoin ATMs, posters, etc., are being placed.

When I went to Singapore and riding an MRT, I see some Binance posters hanging around. I just failed to take pictures of them though, but maybe next time when I get back.

Well that concludes that bitcoin is really spreading and many countries and companies are recognizing the goodness of the cryptocurrency. I can say that if every countries will adopt bitcoin or cryptocurrency to be exact it must be a good start for everyone having a fast and safer way of making transaction especially payment method.

I love milktea. I used to buy milktea but knowing that you can buy it using bitcoin is more exciting. Just look forward on how far can bitcoin go if we continue spreading the goodness of it.

The only concern I have is that will people be ready to shred even a few cents extra as a fees over an item which is low on price when fiat transaction wouldn't cost extra at all. That's the big limitation of Bitcoin. The fee makes it really expensive for less priced items. There even 1 cent would make a difference.

Though this could stop people to use Bitcoin. But general awareness can increase if you put up Bitcoin sign and qr code on display.

Selling a product like OP's milktea is somewat like my idea as well. But I'd need to buy first bug truck to load my products and visit an blockchain events to sell my products to crypto users. This is because I specifically pick the potential clients I have which are the bitcoin and crypto users alone. I'd be producing belt buckles, prying pans and can openers with BTC and cypto logos to them. I designed most of them and my brother will help me produce it on his metal shop.

We're gonna use Coins.PH for our business. It has a local PHP balance (although considered a stable BTC address) where transaction fees are 0% when sending peer-to-peer or using the QR code. As long they're using the same app, transactions are instant and no fees.

Unless if the user chooses to use other wallet than Coins.PH, expect transaction fees to be deducted, and some waiting time for it to be fully confirmed.

If its in the mall then it should be the milk tea ever for people to come in.
The thing with businesses like this is you need something new for it to be inviting to all.

Your real problem is the everyday profit which will also include the expensive rent for the place in the mall.
Bitcoin payment might not click but if it will be seen by the public then what could you lose? Nothing right?
One hell of a good move there. Thanks.

Other businesses could also copy you if they knew that you have earned more money than them.

True, explaining everything including problems would be a good idea. Explaining problems will make them able to deal with every situation. Without knowing problems, you can never become a good investor. In that case you will not have potential to deal the situation as you have not heard about it previously. Knowing them before will mentally prepare you to deal with it.

Even though it's only in closed beta right now I still disagree that it will be very easy to onboard people to Lightning, specifically for the wallet in the link (Zap Wallet), if only because of the simple reason that people will need to learn what a channel is and the difference between coins on Lightning and coins on-chain. The definitions will be complicated to some people.

You’re right. Not only we would deal with those problems, but competitors as well. However, the only difference between us and the competitors in the area? They didn’t implement Bitcoin payments yet, and that’s a plus. Some of them do have QR codes from a centralised provider, as it can only promote digital payments in fiat money.

This is why we will come up with a creative promo that would let them be aware about Bitcoin. Like if the first timers have said “What is Bitcoin?”. So not only we would sell milk tea, but we educate them a bit about the positive use cases of Bitcoin.

Even a single Bitcoin QR code in a local area would be viral in no time once shared by some crypto enthusiasts in the city, and spread the word too.

you are one of the few peoples  that start to realize about promoting a bitcoin  . other promote via orally or by teaching other people but you , i like your style more because you use a props and that is milk tea  . yes you can make offers like buy 1 take 1 for those who scan and pay via bitcoin  . that is to encourage them try bitcoin if ever they dont use btc yet   . you said no other stalls use btc  ? that is also a plus point for you and you can get trending on social media and everyone will be talking about it  .

If I could only dream that a local newspaper would publish about us being the first in the city to sell milk tea that accepts Bitcoin payments. I believe in the law of attraction, and we could make it happen once the business begins.

I'm not sure the OP's idea is effective, especially since BTC hasn't been adopted well in the city, but it doesn't hurt to try.  who knows with that, many people in your city are getting to know cryptocurrency and want to learn and use it.  the important thing to do it slowly as an alternative to fiat payments.  if possible then accept online and delivery orders, it's also effective if you want to use payments in cryptocurrency.

This is a very challenging idea for a business. If you are prepared to face the risk of accepting Bitcoin especially the rates where sales will be definitely affected then there is no wrong in trying.
If I understand correctly, this will be a family business so it'll be best to think it over plenty of times and learning the market. Problems will definitely arise when you start accepting it but I guess you will learn by facing the consequences along the way as it is not every day you'll be accepting Bitcoin as payment anyway.

With the enormous option of possible things we could do to attract market adoption, I like the way how you made it, but would it seem to be hard? Because if you are going to accept bitcoin in payment for small amount of a milk tea, more transaction fee is needed, plus, with the volatility of the market, do you ensure profits and returns in your business? Though, that isn't what is necessary, what is important that I like about what you did is the initiative to make these things possible.

There are already country that accepted crypto currency and bitcoin as payment .

Be partner of local exchange if you dont want to have a problem with price volatility, but if you really want to adopt it to use in your personal store accept bitcoin as payment and forget about the price volatility.

That will be a great idea for promoting Bitcoin usage on your place because with that idea of yours fusing Bitcoin usage on the business you have on your mind. That will be successful if and only if people on your place do already know about Bitcoin together with its essence and importance as well as how it will be use. Adaptation on using cryptocurrency is also in need so that people can be able to use and know about Bitcoin. But that will be a great start on promoting Bitcoin in your place so that people who still doesn't know about it will be aware that such cryptocurrency do exist and it can be used as well for payment options. Putting promotion on using Bitcoin will surely hit the interest and attention of the crowd and they will become curious on knowing Bitcoin so that they will start engaging into it that will be good to rise up the demand of using Bitcoin.

Good job that you choose an innovative idea to attract more people to your shop, but I am a little bit confused! Because as you said there are not many people aware of Bitcoin payment, so they may not interest to pay through Bitcoin for milk tea. You need to spread it widely so that more shop owners get interested to apply for Bitcoin payment in their shop! Later then everyone will kudos to you to bring a revolution in that area, but that will not be an easy job at all! Good Luck.

Using promos will also promote bitcoin or even stir curiousity to those who do not know bitcoin. People who knows bitcoin will probable love the idea and will definitely buy your milktea because of the promo as well as because they also knew someone who knows bitcoin and is willing to accept bitcoin as a payment on a product. Good job! Hope your business will be successful someday. :D

All the same, PM me if you really do it. Like you said, some things go viral on their own, but it's not often you actually get the guy behind the meme to say something properly. Just an offer, you can take it as you wish!

Oh and yeah I knew coins.ph is popular in PH but I didn't know it was THAT popular till everyone uses it. I know you just want ease of business but I'm almost 100% sure once people get used to the idea of better wallets they're in complete control of, they might consider switching to a wallet that doesn't have your private keys! I know it doesn't make much of a difference to the consumer, but a little bit of Bitcoin knowledge goes a long way. Cheers!

but at least if a store provides many payment methods people will be more interested and make it easier.
maybe by making a poster that the store accepts bitcoin, then bitcoin users who stop in can use it and if new people might grow their curiosity.

It can create awareness if someone posted a poster about  accepting bitcoin as mode of payment. Most of people have characteristics of being curious where they want to know what it is, I also have a business proposal where I will create a retail store where customers can use bitcoin in terms of mode of payment. The awareness will not start easily if we are just sitting and not doing anything. We can create and spread awareness by promoting especially by word of mouth.
