What is it with the merit threads recently - feels like 2018 all over again. I thought everyone knows by now that the best way to earn merits is to be in the cycling club.

Not all people can be a member of the club, it depends on CH's analysis. It really depends also with the approval of the Fox.

Anyways I have seen that topic and it really is something that is obviously a... might not mention it... those kind of post was meant to encourage, but this time its definitely not worth of a Merit, as for the time being their are already quite a large number who're making an advance. So it is not necessary anymore unlike the old days.

I'm not fond of merits since I'm become a senior member by default but this kind of strategy is somehow not effective if your goals is only to attract merits. Step 6 is the worse part there where you aim is just for this.

Guess I'm lucky but I will not waste it and prove that I can gain merits too not by creating "topic" like what you showed.

You can try any strategy to earn merits but still the best way is to write quality posts,  something what help others.
You can't cheat people and they will recognise if you are merit hunter or somebody who have something valuable to share.
By luck you may receive a few merits but in the long term you must contribute something to the community if you want to progress in the forum.

Joking aside, OP's example and the many "close to ___ rank" topics have gained plenty of merits before. Many members also thought of doing the same because it works in some cases.

2. Post it on the art contest thread by theymos
3. ? ? ?
4. La-di-da! Merit + btc prizes.

Feels like that wasn't old yet, anyways I don't think it will be done again by theymos but during that moment many (including myself) had the chance to get amounts of merits from different sources and I'm thankful to it that it made me Sr. Member right now. By the way, are you one of those users that missed the chance to earn there, am I right?

It isn't necessarily you have to create a topic to earn merit/s there are other ways you may earn them even just by replying to a certain topic like giving them valuable information, helping them or you somehow made them realize that what you said or replied is something funny and has sense of usefulness to a certain user. Just my two cents.

By the way, why does your title still for 2019?

Here's what I observed, if you only make threads with general topics or most appropriate to say "not so extraordinary" topics like to OP's example, chances of getting is merits is still less because I'm pretty sure that it was disscussed couple of times ago already. Imagine how big our forum so it's impossible that no one discussed "How to avoid gambling addiction" (just another example) before, right? ;D.

If you really want to get tons of merit then show some numbers as much as possible: like infographs, stats, codes etc. etc. because such threads attracts merit givers the most ;).

Without the six steps, I think only one step, don't mind about merit, instead mind about your discussions and build them up as best as possible. When you don't mind about merit, merit will more easily come to you.

I'd say:
1. Put some effort into your posts, annacdotal or actual evidence can go a long way in certain discussions.
2. Involve yourself in discussions quite a bit - often you earn merits if you offer your opinion in some discussions, if it's generic and useless then it's generic and useless and you won't get anything but normaly if you're not after anything with a discussion then that's the time you can get the merited.

Sorry, my voice of consciouness also missed this ;D it's very monotonous when reading test... Putting a *sarcasm* sign helps occasionally (even in tiny font).

The best way to earn merit is be a good member and make sure your post's are insightful and have good content, there are a lot of members here who merit those who show some drive and passion towards bitcoin and help keep the forum safe.

Other than that shit posting silly question or post with almost no content will find you in the cold zone where no one will interact with your post's so keep the following in mind.

1. Post only insightful information or valid questions that don't have 1000's of post's already answered.
2. DON'T Shitpost.
3. Be a good member and be active help new comers to the space and make them feel welcome.

I believe OP is ironically talking about this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5220221.0) submitted a few days ago. But at the same time, I suspect he ironically posted this thread to get some easy merit.... Damn, are you guys coming on every board now with these merit-hunting threads?

I have to admit there is a lot of boring, merit whoring in Meta. I don’t want to upset anybody but some of it is so transparent. I like LoyceV a lot but some of the other guys, their statistical threads related to Merit bore the shit out of me & take up valuable Meta space.

I don’t give a crap who has the most net Merit over a period of 30 days or whatever. Jesus Christ, get some pussy.

This is a fantastic forum, there are some great people here, some I have met & become real life friends with. My presence here has helped me learn a lot of really important things but all of those things are related to bitcoin. I couldn’t give a damn about Merit but hey, some people need a hobby ;)

You missed something, now B&H section becomes the place for people who want to hunt merits by posting their rank up journey story or them near to achieve their goals. ;D

Maybe much better informative and simple explanation , direct to the point or idea, and features which cools to include and discuss in the forum. I am getting headache seeing lots of stats uploaded in meta section cause I'm rarely using those stats. Maybe for some it's helpful but for some users here who just wanted a clean discussion or grasp some knowledge about forum improvement is much nicer IMO.

Usually I have been trying encourage newbies to make good post at least by sending merits. But I really don't like to see merit post (except some pure analysis like LoyceV) especially from newbies who even didn't earned enough merits. Also I noticed in B&H section so many merit giveaway thread popping up by very low rank members. Users are looking for quick merit earning method instead of contribution.

I don't want to insult anyone, but everyone should realized their limits about what they should post or what they should avoid. Please don't look for quick merit earning method, try to be more constructive.

Let's make it more understandable and simple especially for newbies, always spread positivity in the forum with your positive thoughts good conversation is an important part of the forum so never hesitate to share your positive thoughts on any thread because this the only way to deserve best from this forum.

Let me remove the number 6, and about the number 5, I think you forgot to mention to yourself that you can't get any merits by posting such obvious masked statement to gain merits, and it's just backfired to you, well at least you've got your lesson.


Indeed, but there are still people who thinks Meta is the right thread for them to earn merits, well yes, it is not impossible if they are going to post constructive post or even a sentence that have a solid idea that will help a certain individual in a certain topic, etc...

Others also change their posting style just to fit the qualification they think they needed to gain merits but sometimes it turns out not so good, and in the end, they will frustrated why they are not still receiving any merits, then they are going to their old self, to cut this chase, in order to receive merits, give your best and don't expect any merits showering on you, because counting the chicks when the egg is still in the nest will just disappoints you. Blessings (merits) always come when you don't expect it.

It seems like you misplaced this thread on the Meta board, because what I know of the people on this Meta board are people who have extraordinary thoughts.  From a string of quality data statistics or threads have been written on this Meta board.

So I think the people on this board no longer need the advice you wrote down.
It's better to write for beginners on the beginner's board and help.

it's a normal thing to do here... that's why this site is created..
