Title: Funny bug
Post by: ~DefaultTrust on January 29, 2020, 07:54:46 PM
Everyone knows that user id is proportional to registration time?

For example
id = 1 -> reg date = November 17, 2009
id = 3 -> reg date = November 19, 2009

and so on.
But I found several (So far, only two) users for whom it is not

id = 2529205  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2529205)-> reg date = April 27, 2013 (but id = 2529204  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2529204)-> reg date = January 18, 2019)
id = 2558369  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2558369)-> reg date = June 28, 2017 (but id = 2558368  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2558368)-> reg date = March 06, 2019)

I came across them by accident. I think in fact there are more such users  :)

Thats very interesting. Never seen this. If a user gets deleted (not banned or nuked but totally removed) maybe his ID becomes open for registration. The question is how can one try to register previously deleted ID.

These look like copies of older user accounts. Possibly created as a result of name changes - to prevent the old name from being hijacked. Never mind, read this:

Maybe it is the mechanism of action of the forum. Every time we sign up, our account will be assigned with an ID, there's no way to choose it. So the effort that you mentioned is not feasible  :D
One more special thing, that accounts are not used for a long time. Could those accounts be deleted? To reinstall the ID for other users  :D

They should've done that for the name change system as it is/was extremely buggy. I kept having to send pms twice when people changed their username in the hope one got through because the name selection tool on the messaging system was returning a different name (they still replied though so it got through).
