Title: How is it possible to write a small picture next to the profile name?
Post by: GazetaBitcoin on January 30, 2020, 05:00:51 PM
I saw several times some users here who have a small picture at their usernames or in some fields at their profile (at social media, for example).

Take TradeFoeteess for example, who has an icon with a house and two trees next to his username - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=67058.

How can such a picture be inserted next to the useename or in the social media fields of the profile?

I don't think a picture like that can be added after the account has been created, just as its impossible to edit or change usernames except through a PM to theymos. I'm not so sure but I think a picture like that can only be added as of the time the account was created.

The "picture" is a character, it's part of TradeFortress 🏕's username. Back in the days, users had much more freedom to use weird characters in their usernames (and it's always a paid to deal with for data processing (http://loyce.club/trust/2020-01-25_Sat_05.12h/67058.html)).
At some time in the past Admin restricted the use of weird characters in new usernames, but the old ones are used to login to they can't be changed.

Try search MEMBERS (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=mlist;sa=search) for a weird character, you'll get many hits.

Update: I never looked close enough to see what the "picture" is. It turns out it's a Camping Emoji (https://emojipedia.org/camping/):
🏕

What LoyceV said. And just to add, it's an emoji. As far as I know, you can pretty much add emojis on whatever part of your profile is editable. If you take a look at the bottom of my avatar, I added a key 🔑 emoji for demonstration purposes: "Vires in Numeris 🔑".

If you want a list of emojis to add wherever to your posts/profile, though I'm not sure if I would recommend it, check here and just copy paste them like how you copy paste text: https://getemoji.com/

I recall seeing the question some time ago, and found the thread where it was discussed (although half of the thread went off track):  How to have this? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5092715.msg49029312#msg49029312).

I would like to add that the username and the displayed name are not the same. So it's actually still possible to change it and add emoji's/special characters if you're a VIP/Donor member (or Staff):

It seems you can't add different special characters in your bitcointalk username anymore. But if you want to get them for other places like username of your facebook or instagram name then you can search them on google and copy paste them into the field there you wanted to have then you will have one.

Similar to this one : https://www.tobyscs.com/smileys-symbols-for-nicknames/

You have lot of different weird characters to choose and also the same thing can be done with fonts of username on site like fortnitefonts.

That's what messes up my Trust list viewer updates: I can only manually apply name changes :(

I'm surprised this isn't used a lot more in signatures: increase the size (for Sr. Members and up) of the emojis and you get full size "images"! I guess not many people know it's possible.

Thank you all for the fast responses. I knew it is not possible for "normal humans" to change the displayed name (indeed, username is different than profile name), unless you become VIP.

This is why I asked also about posting such an emoji in different profile fields (such as social media fields). So you just copy/paste the code from links as ones provided by  mk4 and mersal? As a issue of note, on mobile I don't get any code for any emoji from either one of both sites; I will try also on desktop.

@Ddmr: than you for that link. I found funny the fact that in the respective thread the example was also about TF :) However  recently I saw someone having an emoji at his profile in one of the social media fields and that made me curious.

Thanks for testing my DT2 parser. BPIP stopped displaying DT2 status for you when you changed the name. I wouldn't have caught this bug without your help :)

You actually no need the codes when you can see that emoji or character, just copy and paste them where you want then click save to get those font available to view.I did this for my instagram account to get some kind of different attention while people searching for my name (if there is anyone ;D).

Damn, now I feel like adding some sick emoji to my username.

But then again, I can't afford to sell my house just for that extra privilege :c

Ah sorry for you then... I have this dilemma as well - should I sell a kidney for a VIP account or for a Samsung Galaxy Fold? :)

Even if I can't change my display name or username but I always thought that accounts with VIP/Staffs are able to change something like display name. I believe that usernames can't be change unless that the account owner ask theymos and change the username.

Thank you, nakamura12. I was just wondering how to add emojis next to your displayed name or in your social media fields. It is all crystal clear now!
