Title: Exchanges closed down in 2019!
Post by: pacman7331 on January 31, 2020, 01:26:12 PM
After a long bear run in 2018, 2019 wasn't that bad! Crypto market recovered a bit! But the effect of the bear run was just huge, and that's why many crypto projects and exchanges closed down last year! From January to December of 2019, these exchanges were closed,
1. Cryptopia
2. Coinexchane dot io
3. Nova Exchange
4. Codex exchange
5. Bitmarket
6. Coinome
7. Tradeio (Hibernation mode)
8. IDAX (Not officially yet)

I remembered these names and witnessed most of them, but I am sure there are many other exchanges that went to shut down last year! If you know any other closed exchange name, share here! So, I can update the list!

The competition are eating these exchanges and they cannot keep up, we will see many more exchanges gong down, it's also surprising that there are so many ICO based exchanges in the past and is still ongoing  but unfortunately not among them are in the competition like Adab, Bitmillex IronX among others so better not involved in these ICO based exchanges.

bad management and CEO are the problem of the exchange, seen in the last year Cryptopia and IDAX were closed, even though as far as I know the exchange is very well known and I also use, this is really a bad situation for crypto currencies

if you can't access it there are 2 possibilities, the first they may have closed, and the second try to use VPN, there are some exchanges that cannot be accessed by the internet

I got a chance to use some of those exchanges before. Some weren't able to have a good support that lose their users trust. There probably have their own reason why they stop operating and closed down. The market is been filled with better exchanges that can provide  better support as well offers more legit features. They should learn from those who managed to keep their market and investors since soon they might relaunch their exchanges and they should offer something unique that will let people use them again.

Great you have come up with this list. These are the ones that could not sustain in true bear market conditions. That means, the exchanges which are still live since last year in such conditions, will definitely see some improvement.
There are many who are awaiting bull market conditions to open up.

Very surprised it turns out that so many exchanges are closed, what is the reason that the exchange is closed is it unable to compete with other major exchanges? what is the lack of traders and investors entering it so that the exchange is bankrupt because it does not get profits or security issues

And we'll see many MANY more as DEX's get's adopted on a larger scale, removing volume and liquidity from the smaller exchanges, eventually competing with the bigger exchanges like Binance and Bittrex.
Blocknet is a good example of a DEX that will most likely be the front leader at some point, since they've got a ton of projects listed, and soon ads support for EOS and ETH (including tokens) as well.

It's only a matter of time, before we see a huge shake down. Node owners to these DEX's will make a pretty penny, I can guarantee you that.

Among these cryptopia was one with high volume and liquidity so i think it was victim to bad management rather money flow problems.  While trade.io was good new project in my eyes and i think they should re-launch with a positive approach. No doubt the competiton is huge among the crypto market but there is also huge opportunity because it is a rapidly growing market.

maybe other problems such as poor crypto market conditions for 2 seasons can also affect crypto exchange. traders also don't want to lose or get caught in a lonely exchange, don't have users, low volume and worse like hacking on Exchange.

Thats why I am not using small crypto exchanges, as you can see 9 of 10 exchanges were too small, only QuadrigaCX was one of the bigger ones. Even big exchanges like Binance was hacked, they covered all losses and survived, that is important because when you store more money on exchanges, you never know when it becomes hacked.

If I am not wrong Liqui was hacked badly, same as Coinpulse and I saw gatecoin was scammed. In this thread, I only listed those exchange name which is officially closed down like Coinexchangeio, CodexExchange, they gave a long time to withdraw people's fund, not just suddenly.

I used coinexchange few weeks before closing. They really did wonderfully well and their reason for shutting down was that it wasn't sustainable to run an exchange platform because they are running at lost. I think they are very straightforward with nothing to hide. I think the major reason why most of them are closing down is due to low trading volume and many of them are just actively dead  ;D. despite the fact that many of the already existed project are closing down, there are still many of them on ANN thread still coming out about exchange development project. In fact strongly believe there are too many exchange platform. it is good that they are gradually doing down.

Many of these exchanges were closed because they were exposed to hacking attacks. But I never understood the coinexchange being closed.

Except for Cryptopia and IDAX, they weren't too big anyway. They could not recover after hacking attacks. But coinexchange was the one of the biggest exchange of an era. I just sorry for coinexchange.

Bitberry, the vaunted wallet provider announced its closure for February, He blamed the closure to prevalent market condition which I believe its mere distraction and unnecessary excuse. The awareness of the closure is not properly disposed, only token listed are making announcement through their groups which I found demeaning and improper. Are they planning to run away with people's coin. I also expect a free transaction fee for every coin because of the urgency.

Trading volume of crypto currencies are just moving to few particular exchanges because people started to trust only some exchanges that is why others are in loss or get hacked possibly wanted to exit scam.Still people not yet preferring decentralized exchange so we are in need for more true decentralized exchanges.

I'm actually surprised more prominent exchanges didnt close up shop.  In any bear market we are going to have a lot of exchanges close down.  The problem exists with new exchanges being created every day.  The amount of total crypto volume cant support so many exchanges so its inevitable a true case of only the strong survive.

Kudos to VB1001 for compiling the list.
I think you should also give credit to the Op of this thread because the thread you made reference to is quite different from what @pacman7331 is saying. That an exchanged was hacked does not mean it has shut down. It was reported that Binance and several exchanges got hacked in 2019, but they never shut down.
Also, your reference only had updates that stopped in 2018. If someone else comes up to continue with an updated list, it is also fine.

So, from my end, I am saying thanks to @pacman7331, for bringing up an informative thread as this.

Exchanges are closing down, yet some are yet springing up and selling ICO to scam investors. People need to be careful of the exchanges they trade and leave their fund, some developers are just too brutal. Bitbox has shutdown its window this year. Some of these failures are as a result of poor fund management and been adamant to accept responsibility and change.

Cobinhood is another exchange that shut down recently. It really came as a surprise, I don't know what could be attributed to the massive shutdowns. Is the market no more profitable or people don't really use the exchanges.

I think it is more like that having this kind of business has a very hifh risk because all of the altcoins that is in the market is also your investment if the exchanger is already trusted it could easily gain profit but acquiring users in the websites will be difficult because they are so many exchangers online. Its not going to be easy at all point for sure the one with less user is going to collapse.

The only one that I really felt was the Cryptopia closure I have some coins there that I have not retrieved and I am receiving my airdrop here from one project, two reasons why these exchanges are closing, volume and hacking and the competition is beating them we will see many more exchanges closing and this is expected this 2020.

The majority of them are still alive and some may postpone the service for the users. I remind you that cryptopia is not yet a dead exchange site and it will comeback with more restrictions to the users.

Cobinhood is the latest one but there are so many of exchange sites that have already closed last year
This article will add more data to the OP's list.

Cobinhood is the first exchange site who has closed this service in this year.

I recently see this, Exit scam? Aussie exchange freezes ‘$1m+’ of user funds in mystery audit (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5222132.0).

Not officially closed down, but it looks like they're trying to exit scam.

Some of them might not be dead though and could come to live this 2020 as it seems that the whole crypto market is trying to rebound now, specially Bitcoin.

dam . why  ? cryptopia  , nova , and the recent idex were the biggest among the list if im not mistaken but others were also popular and have a sig campaign on here before   . bear was only one year but the bears on the past are much more worster  but it didnt result for the exchanges to shut down  . i dont believe that the 2018 bear is the problem but maybe there are other serious problems that these guys were facing and they are pressured to run the exchange normally  so they decided to take some breaks  .

There is not much choice by these exchanges. As you can see an exchange platform can be closed if no liquidity or profits gain from trading fees and that's normal. I remember cryptopia and idax as biggest exchange amongst the list. Ive using these two before but stop due to rumors of closing especially Idax. But as far as I know they arent closed yet as rumors sometime might be wrong but for the sake of keeping funds dont use it anymore cause the funds might be gone in an instant.

I think this is good for the community, if they can't fight back the bear market then they should close. People already learn that this exchanges cannot be trusted since they can be hacked or can shutdown immediately without further notice. The investors should focus on legit and top class exchanges like Binance, Huobi and Kucoin for assurance.

I really give it to coinexchange for being very honest to their users and give good amount of time for people to withdraw their funds, i have only use them on few occasions and they were not bad, other exchange would have find a way to increase their trading volume using bot just to keep up a front,
Many exchange shouldn't even be in business if going by actual trading Volume not the fake volume they display for people to see, only few of top exchange can operate properly now,
And the irony is more exchange are coming up that would probably end up dead within few months of their existence, the number of exchange is growing and not enough market to sustain them all.

I lost around $500 worth of cryptocurrency when Cryptopia closed down in 2019. Actually they had given a small window to withdraw the holdings. I transferred my BTC to other wallets, but kept the altcoins in the exchange wallet. And when the exchange shut down unexpectedly, I lost access to my altcoin holdings (mostly Litecoin and a few tokens).

this is what is called a risk when storing assets that you have in the exchange place, they can do closure like that and the assets can not be taken again and the place of exchange is not responsible like that, so I suggest when you have more assets move immediately to a safer wallet.

Watch out for LA Token. The research firm Cointelligence has found that LATOKEN is a scam exchange. And if you go online you'll see all kinds of stories not just from former customers but even ex employees of the exchange who tells you all the stories of how they were scammed.

And they recently sponsored an event at Davos WEF so you know they're definitely scammers;)

I did bounty for Codex.exchange, had some USD there, but suddenly they announced they are gonna closed down! I was shocked as the admin said they have higher volume than many good exchanges! Later I see they closed down for regulations! Thanks for the thread, I did not aware that IDAX is going to close, though they are ruined badly.

I stopped trading on Latoken exchange in 2018 because they are full with fake volume and they held scam project's IEO on their launchpad! Because of their shitty IEO launchpad, many good projects got ruin! However, could you please give me the link where Cointelligence said Latoken is a scam? I need it to show to the Swapzilla team! As I had a talk with Swapzilla team, I told them to not come through Latoken IEO, they kept replying me with a silly excuse! Lol.

Cryptopia is already shut down officially, they won't come! Same as Coinexchangeio, it was a really good mid-level exchange, but I think Coinexchangeio did a mistake in making a new plan/strategy to fight the bear condition and be a normal popular exchange! Coinexchange is gone now, they won't back! I haven't seen any history of coming back a crypto project after shut down officially! But I feel confused! Did Tradeio steal your money? But how? They are just in hibernation mode, and they made an announcement for the users to withdrawal assets within a certain time! Maybe you missed the announcement! Idax pro seems scam for me, not close or shut down officially!

Idax is basically as official as it gets, they literally said that their CEO took off with money, what else could you ever do when that happens, if they somehow continue the operations while finding money somewhere else and pay people their withdrawals on time, they could make some money from the trading fee's and eventually pay their debt over time?

I mean that does sound like a "possibility" but they would have to withdraw a huge loan from a bank which I doubt would allow when even the CEO is not around, that doesn't really sound like something they will be able to do even if they appoint a whole new CEO instead. When all your money is gone, all your money is gone, there is no turning back from such a thing and somehow continue operations.

Lol.

Much has changed since 2018 on Latoken. As of now, they work really fast, their support is perfect, but projects should pay more attention to the marketing responsibility zone. They think that the exchange makes it possible. But actually projects themselves should work on their results by market making etc. Btw, don't remember scam ieos there, remember ieo that didn't do anything for developing.

Actually, Cointelligence has personal scores with that exchange, so you shouldn't take it into account as an independent view on the platform. Besides, I've heard that they were caught on promotion low-risk ICOs that scammed people. So I clearly don't trust their reviews

Cointelligence never promoted low-risk ICOs or any ICOs. LATOKEN CEO made this up at a debate we had. As you can read here the explanation about our ICO rating system (https://www.cointelligence.com/content/ico_list/) under the headline "How do we determine our risk score?". Its better to avoid making claims online unless you have evidence to back it up. Cointelligence doesnt have any "personal "scores" with LATOKEN. We investigated and called out LATOKEN as we did with other scammers as a part of our exchanges rating process (https://www.cointelligence.com/exchanges_list/) and we recieved evidence from doznes of "partners", ex-employees and founders they cheated. You can read about it here: https://www.cointelligence.com/exchanges_list/latoken/ - You can also read about LATOKEN scammy behavour here: https://bitcoinist.com/elon-musk-spacex-ieo-appears-on-suspicious-latoken-exchange/ - Beside protecing the community we have no other reason to call out LATOKEN as we were never hurt by them or had any business relationship with them.

Yeah, it was conducted by julerz12 bounty manager, i worked also. I have been confused when because first of all team is anonymous. And it was no ICO/IEO project, so not easy to success without any private investors. Codex and Eosex those was exchange platform, Eosex is highly developed platform and they also started to list new projects but that time it's suddenly close down.

The most painful exchange that got closed down is Cryptopia, damn I love that exchange, its one of the best altcoin exchange at that time, many new upcoming projects lists on Cryptopia too, For Idax I'm glad they met their end

How can you say that if I see with my own eyes that right now Fiduxa is promoted in ICO ratings made by your own on CoIntelligence? Their website is not even opening! You do ratings of ICOs, allow scam projects to be included there, and now you make advertisement for yourself by blaming Latoken for something…

I don’t see any reasons to claim that they are a scam. Cointelligence is famous for defamations practices and lots of good projects already suffered from you. By claiming someone 'scammer' you are trying to shift the blame to someone else’s shoulders. But the truth is that in current case there are not real victims of latoken.

Fixuxa was never promoted by Cointeligence, it was rated by Cointelligence. Rating is not promotion, its a type of analysis. The fact Fiduxa was shutdown does not mean its a scam as most startups are doomed to fail. I suggset you educate yourself about the defintion of scam.

Anyways, I am not interested spending any additional time discussing this with you unless you are willing to connect via a video call so we can know who you are as I am suspecting you are an LATOKEN employee, otherwise you wouldnt have any reason defending LATOKEN as any sain person with half a brain can figure out they are a SCAM.

Eosex wasn't highly developed exchange, mate. It looked good, there was a big hype about this exchange, but the truth is they scammed us, everyone who invests in their platform and who did bounty, all get scam by that Eosex. They had no good partners, no media coverage, no good team, I wonder why they got huge hype!

Actually, doing ratings is promotion as well. People’s decisions are based on ratings, all the market is based on them, you should clearly understand that.

And I am not LATOKEN ambassador to bother with a video call. Btw, LATOKEN employees have faces and phones just like me, they can do a call as well, you should think hard about it. And I am not initiating our discussion - it was your choice to register on BitcoinTalk to reply to me.

I think because you promoted as low-risk investments icos that have scammed people - and you did it also in the U.S. - you could be afraid that it may result in imprisonment for you... This is why you attack others to offset claims from yourself.
