Title: your official social media accounts
Post by: frogpoet on January 31, 2020, 06:46:01 PM
Does bitcointalk.org have official social media accounts?  I'm looking at this one on twitter : https://twitter.com/bitcointalk (https://twitter.com/bitcointalk), which claims to be the official account - at the moment it has 14.6K followers. Is this in fact your official account ?

Yeah it's the official forum account. It's normally used just to report security breaches and ddos attacks to the community.

It's your choice whether you follow it or not, it's not necessary.

I never knew this. Thanks dude, it seems to be legit when you browse it.

It seems theymos is very busy and have no time to use it anymore. The last post was August 30, 2018 almost 2years and more already.

Having a social active account can be useful since its more way easy yo udpate forum users if there something new or announcement but the text character is limited compared here. Hope theymos used it again, some users here are definitely more active in social than here.

Most of the tweets which were sent out were related to DoS attacks, server downtime or some other sort of privacy compromise.
It appears to have only been used when communication here on the forum was not possible. These days, however, we get very few cases of downtimes and the forum is less susceptible to DoS attacks. If the forum is accessible, there is no need to use an external platform to communicate to get community.
It's however good to note and follow, in case it could become active in the future for some reasons.

Everything moves on its own on Bitcointalk and are not really mention-worthy, except if it involves its own development (e.g. forum software).

But then, the owner (presumably theymos) didn't post the anniversary design contest so I guess it's inactive until he hires some social media manager to take over.
