Title: Why not an NFT section ?
Post by: Flater on February 04, 2020, 01:47:50 PM
Hi all,
NFT and cryptocollectible are gaining lot of traction recently, however the forum isn’t really well adapted to them.
I believe it would be nice to have a dedicated section, lot of project are only on Discord, and i believe the NFT could bring some fresh air to the forum.

The numbers of the project are not that much to be considered for a new section, Tokens (Altcoins) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=240.0) is enough by it for now.

as Flater says, it won't be necessary to create a subforum for it. it fits well into the existing structure.
so that everybody knows what it's all about:

Quote
A non-fungible token (NFT) is a special type of cryptographic token which represents something unique; non-fungible tokens are thus not mutually interchangeable by their individual specification.[1] This is in contrast to cryptocurrencies like Zcash, and many network or utility tokens that are fungible in nature.

I had to consult a search engine to find out what NFT is. you can avoid this :)

Altcoin Discussion board is there. This is a bitcoin forum after all. Altcoin projects should be humble that these (shit)coins are even allowed to be discussed about here. Still if you want to talk about them there is this section.

For buying/selling you can use the Marketplace (Altcoins) section and for discussing the services of traders use Service Discussion (Altcoins).

Again NFT is a token so the Tokens subboard may also a place to post. Note that getting a decent value reply there should not be your expectation.

Hey!

Are NFT projects still published in "altcoins" or was a new section created for them and I can't find it?

@guty

You can still post your NFT related projects Tokens (Altcoins) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=240.0). And, there will be no "new" childboard or section that will be created solely for NFT's.

Note that in every main board, there is child board underneath them -- so you don't get confused.

There is no special section for NFTs. All threads about NFT are published in the "Altcoin Discussion (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0)" section.

Examples:

What is NFT? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5385177.0);
NFT for money laundering? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5364556.0);
The NFT hype makes Opensea rich (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5385121.0);
My Painting is now NFT (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5384645.0)

etc.

and i believe the NFT could bring some fresh air to the forum.
the creator of this forum does not know the name NFT, this forum only knows Bitcoin, this is specifically created and includes a forum, there is no fresh air for NFT.

NFT was known in 2017, meaning 9 years after Bitcoin and the forum was created, so there is no special link or space for NFT here, if you want a special room for NFT just look for it in the game Kitties, he is the culprit you can take care of the cat there ok.

I also wonder, if NFT is famous and good, why don't they create their own forum like Bitcoin and Bitcointalk, why they depend on it here, they say great, what is it great....Our cat, is gone, so no more new cats.

NFT means non fungible token. That is to mean that NFT is a token. So in the forum, any token or coin that is not bitcoin is call altcoin. So NFT is maybe been seen by the admin as an Altcoin. So the discussion about it can be done in the Altcoin section.

Well, we've got a Altcoin section, and that section is one of the more popular ones on the forum. So, saying that this forum is only Bitcoin is more of an elitist attitude, rather than the truth. If you don't like Altcoins or NFT's then that's fine, but the forum has definitely adapted, and the Altcoins section is a contributing factor to the continued success of Bitcointalk. While, I wouldn't say we go as far as relying on it, it definitely contributes positively to the forum, despite some of the apparent spam issues there.

I also wonder, if NFT is famous and good, why don't they create their own forum like Bitcoin and Bitcointalk, why they depend on it here, they say great, what is it great
NFT isn't an organisation, rather its a term than covers a wide range of tokens. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of NFT's, but the concept of them has been around a lot longer than recent hype will lead you to believe. However, it's definitely massively hyped right now, even football teams, and organisations as big as the UFC are getting in on the action. So, while I do believe that the hype will die down to a more realistic level, NFT's will probably have some sort of future, even if that is massively reduced when compared with today.

We all know NFT is a kind of token, And there is an Altcoin section for all token and coin related discussions. You will notice that there are a lot of NFT projects being announced these days. You can find new NFT projects there.

Seriously?  Lol.  I don't know how even the average person who has no interest in crypto could avoid knowing anything about NFTs even if they wanted to (which they should, because they're crapola).

There's already an active thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5385590.0) about having an NFT subsection, OP.  That's in addition to all the other ones I've seen over the past few months--and you're going to get all the same responses, so you might as well lock this one up lest it get filled with shitposts.

The bottom line is what you've been told in the first few posts here: NFTs belong in the altcoin section, and Theymos (as far as anyone knows) has no plans on adding a separate section for them.  This is, first and foremost, a forum about bitcoin--not about cryptocurrency in general.  The altcoiners are lucky Theymos was feeling generous when he created the altcoin sections, though there's so much garbage being cranked out that it's nearly torture to try to read anything there.

Sure today you can laugh about it.
The statement was more than two years ago and then NFT were not yet daily 123298234x in the news :)
And you have summarized everything else. NFT = Altcoin and therefore it will probably remain as it is.
