What if the Titan is becoming a 120MH/s miner instead of initially stated 100MH/s (you know, the KnC bonus^^), will we then be in for 1/20 of 120MH/s?

The price of Titan is about 16Bitcoin at the moment. So 1BTC should buy 1/16 of the hashing power. You mention that we will only get 1/20. Is the rest your profit?

So the group buy will be more expensive than buying direct?

In the case that the shareholders need to pay additional BTC, they don't have to pay 0,1 btc, but 0,05.

Can't you order the #3 and #4 as soon all shares are bought? You're doing a great business here, I'm sure you have this amount in fiat, and Bitcoin shouldn't take too long to reach $570 so you can sell it. I'm afraid they'll take too long to delivery these last purchased asics.

I'm trying to get a handle on potential mining outcomes.  On litecoinminingcalculator, I plug in 12500 khs (1/20 total) @ 5797.27800722 difficulty with a 3% fee.  This returns

2.1 LTC / Day
(Diff. 5797.27800722)   
63.11 LTC / Month
768.37 LTC / Year

Is that a decent ballpark or am I not plugging in the right numbers?  What is a reasonable hope for break even and how long do we estimate the machine would be viable?

The numbers are right.
The reason it isn't going to be 2,1ltc is because the difficulty will increase when asics for script are used for mining.

Any way to estimate what the difficulty #'s might go up to after release?  3'ish months out?  6'ish months out?  7000?  10,000?  I wasn't part of the Bitcoin run-up post ASICs so I don't know if those numbers can be extrapolated.

I wrote an email to KNC this morning asking if they know Mr. Andersen, a manager of Scryptsmining.
This is their answer:

I didn't realise till recently that Sha256 miners ( some of them anyway ) can mine other Sha256 coins too. Bit obvious now I think about it but having the ability to mine different coins is a plus because if Btc falls in price, it may well be that another coin becomes more profitable to mine to make up for it.
It makes predicting future gains almost impossible to predict, which is good and bad.
Obviously, if it were possible to predict with certainty, people who turn there hashing power to that coin and the advantage is gone.
I've seen a few doom merchants out there saying that the Titans will not give ROI, but they can't possibly know that because there are simply too many variables to consider.
If we were talking about a single coin, we might be able to look at its price over time and make a reasonable prediction. But the Titans give us the ability to mine different coins, making predictions on the fate of multiple coins is like trying to solve  a high polynomial simultaneous equation, IE, it's impossible.

Cryptocurrencies are obviously here to stay, they are one of the few chances we have against the current global banking system. We may not be able to say which coin will be profitable at what time, but having the ability to switch and mine different coins gives us the flexibility to adapt to the changing profitability of different coins.
We all know there are risks with any investment, but providing they are delivered I'm optimistic about the Titans.

I'm cautiously optimistic.  GAW has been talking pretty big lately, and I feel like KNC is just waiting to get the chance to retaliate.  In a dream world, KNC would send a bonus Titan to all Batch 1 customers.  I doubt that'll happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did something extra to try to help their batch 1 customers.

So, just keeping my fingers crossed for that!  For now, I just vote we try to get these Titans up on one of those rig leasing sites or Nicehash and just let it run until it no longer pays for itself (which hopefully will be a long time).

The current low value of BTC and LTC doesn't matter to me.  I wasn't mining for current value back when LTC was only 20 cents about 2 years ago, and I'm still not mining for current value.  I guess my main concern is waldohoover being affected by the low current value and shutting the machines down early.  However, business is business!

Once all is said and done with these Titans, I'm sure selling it on eBay would be a good way to get a little extra money.  There's always someone out there who will want it for the right price, and doing that makes a lot more sense than just having it sitting around doing nothing.  With the reasonably high hashrate of these machines and their modest power draw, I'm hoping they'll be profitable to run for quite a while!

In my opinion, we should hash at one of the following pools:

CleverMining
WafflePool
MagicPool

CleverMining has relatively stable BTC/Mhash payouts, but only pays out to BTC once a day.

WafflePool is a little more volatile when it comes to BTC/Mhash payouts, but they payout to BTC multiple times per day.

MagicPool is very interesting as instead of switching to the most profitable Scrypt coin, they actually switch to the most profitable multipool. I think they payout to BTC once a day.

I have not figured out what the fee differences are for any of these pools.

If I owned a Titan myself, I would point it at MagicPool.

It's important that every person in this industry gets treated fairly!

See......if they don't, it creates a negative stigma about the industry as a whole. That prevents the industry from growing larger, and does not make new people feeling comfortable joining! This is bad for all of us!

I am hearing reports that KNC is starting to refund customers properly again. While they should have been doing that in the first place, it does not make up for late deliveries and all the missed mining time. Frankly, it makes me pissed AND makes all of us look bad. I was hoping they would follow our lead when we delivered batch 1 VB hashing power early!

Guys, before you bust out the pitchforks and torches, let's be realistic.  I'm sure there's not really much for WaldoHoover to say.  

The Titan launch is absolutely atrocious.  No one new seems to be receiving Titans, so after sending out a few they've halted all shipments.  If you browse litecointalk and the official KNCMiner forums, you'll see many posts from people who ordered WELL before us (day 1 orders within the first couple hours) still have received nothing.  Waldohoover ordered most of the Titans well after launch.  If day 1 orders aren't even receiving there orders, I doubt that Waldohoover will any time soon.

Not receiving the Titans may end up being a blessing.  Those who have received it are getting faulty and malfunctioning hardware.  This results in having to RMA a lot of the components.  And so far, KNC's RMA process seems to be nothing more than "send us your broken hardware and it will disappear into a black hole and you'll hear nothing about the status of it."  I have yet to read a case of someone receiving replacement hardware.

To make all this worse, KNC has gone official with the information that they're basically abandoning all of their consumer hardware and sales.  They're going to be focusing on their datacenter and trying to get 20% of the Bitcoin network.  They've received venture capital to help achieve this goal.  It's honestly pretty terrible.

At this point, I'm just considering my investment in shares a total loss.  KNC seems to be going down the path of Hashfast.  My perfect scenario would be KNC issuing refunds to all Titan owners who didn't receive their miners.  I don't even mind the drop in USD value (bitcoin was about ~$525 when I bought my shares).  If I could just receive the same amount of BTC I spent, I would be totally satisfied.  Waldohoover obviously can't do this unless KNC starts issuing refunds.  It's also important to realize that Waldohoover is probably losing more money than any of us.  I believe he ordered extra Titans whose shares didn't sell, so he probably has more of his personal money in to this than any of us.

So what's my plan of action?  Hope for successful litigation against KNCMiner which will get us all refunds, expect to receive the Titan months from now when its mining power won't be worth much, and consider this investment a loss.  I'm just lucky that a few other cloud mining services hit it big, so I'll make back what I'm losing here.

You've been going around the forum saying that the mining incentive in the Bitcoin protocol is a scam.  I honestly don't know how to react to you other than to laugh.

the best hope we have is that according to Swedish Law, the consumer has the right to return any item bought online within 14 days of receiving it, provided the box hasn't been opened. The consumer has to pay for the sipping costs, but is then entitled to receive a full refund.

I really hope waldohoover will agree to do this...

Nicehash/Westhash seems like the best bet, but the Titan currently doesn't work well with this pool due to the slow flush rate of the Titan.  KNC and Nicehash seem to be working together on getting this to work.  See http://forum.kncminer.com/forum/main-category/main-forum/64472-nicehash-full-support for details.

In the meantime, I'd prefer litecoinpool.org.  They merge-mine with DOGE but will pay out entirely in LTC.  Most importantly, Titan owners seem to have the most success with this pool.  Thoughts?

Don't get your hopes up.  I severely doubt much will come of all the refund talk.  If you want as much money back as possible, I'd push for selling the Titan.

When I bought my shares, I believe Bitcoin was ~$550.  It is now ~$370. So, Bitcoin is only worth 67% what it was at the time of purchase.  So, if you were able to sell your Titan for 67% of the initial $10,000 cost (so $6,700) you would theoretically end up with the same amount of Bitcoin as before your purchase.  A quick check to eBay shows that they'll probably sell for around $4,500.  You can work this math further if you care.

Me personally, I just say let's let them mine.  The miners do seem to be getting better with firmware updates.  Also, no other vendor has yet to ship a scrypt miner anywhere near the efficiency of the Titan, even with the higher-than-stated power consumption.  This may change once the Antminer L1 ships, but that is still about 2 months away (if even).  The GAWminers Vaultbreaker has basically disappeared off the face of the Earth.

This.  Historically, attempting to get a refund with legal action just results in more pain that it's worth. I really think we just need to let these machines mine and earn back what we can.

I am in T6, so I've got some waiting time. I do wish shareholders had the option to sell their shares off, though.

Selling the unit on ebay would seem to yield a little less than half the BTC I put in initially, so I'd rather not do that. I am certainly open to mining if it yielded a steady residual payout beyond 1/2 my initial investment. I just don't know if we will reach that point before you have to shut down the Titans due to negative returns.

My own opinion is, if they mine and are reasonably stable, and reliable even if at reduced though reasonable hashing speed, is let em mine, I knew it was a risk when I bought in.
Applying for refunds, court cases etc might bring in to play further unknowns.
The Titans appear quite flexible, with Scrypt-N so there are lots of variability with regards ROI..

I think the long term issue is are they reliable over the long term, even if, not hashing as guaranteed.
Perhaps we could push for compensation on that issue as a side issue with KNC.
It may be that firmware updates may resolve some of the hash rate issues.

All things being equal though, if our units are mining at a reduced hash rate, then so are everyone elses

Maybe put in a proviso with KnC advising that, in the interests of XXXX we preliminarily accept the units provided they are reliable long term with no further major problems.

I'd say, if the units are long term reliable and a reasonable hash rate,  let's get mining.

Yes, but roi getting back your 1 btc @ 12 mh is pretty much not going to happen.....thats the main reason for not even getting started.  I know its sad but its the truth.. unless ltc has a huge spike.

I was thinking about that as well. I think it is fair because we all joined the same investment. If one of the miners isn't working, only a few would have to pay the price, which is unfair in my opinion.

A friend in T7 and I are all in favour of that global split idea. We are both in T7, who knows, it might be the "perfect" unit, but fair is fair, and we all got into this together, so lets do it.

Just throwing out this idea, by no means will I do this without people being on board, but what if we did a group payout for all units instead of individual?

Glad to see the Titan's seem to be working better with updated firmware and (some of) the y-cables.

Interestingly enough, all other scrypt ASICs have seemingly disappeared or called it quits (Bitmain most notably).  It seems like KNC may be the only big player in the Scrypt ASIC world.  Over the past month the LTC network difficulty has hovered between 50,000 and 55,000.  With no new ASICs rolling out, we may see it stay here for a while.

Do you remember why I had to pay that? And more important: since all the payouts are shared among all the shareholders, are you going to make a difference between those who paid 1 BTC and those who paid 1.2BTC ?

The difference in payout is how many MH/s you have. If you payed more for the same MH you aren't getting more payouts.

Yea if this is a week's worth of mining we should've returned them for at least 1 BTC back, at this rate it'd take a few years of mining at this difficulty to get .3 to .5 of a BTC. But that isn't going to happen since the difficulty will increase. So either that was a test payment of some sort or there was still some of the start up fees to pay off.

Well, I just received my second payout.

If I may mention: I did pay over 500 euro for 1 share who's earnings are +- 0,85 euro a week.
This is the worst investment I ever made in my life !!!  >:(

Also confirming payout today. Is this the standard payouts we should expect every week? I have 100 MH worth of shares and received .0164xxxxx BTC. That's pretty grim considering the 6 BTC I originally paid for the shares.

Got my payout 2nd.  I was easily able to trace my payout to newly minted coins.  All doubts in my mind about Waldo's legitimacy have gone away.  Too bad all mining service providers can't be as trustworthy as Waldo.

To be fair, it is hardly waldohoover's fault delivery of the Titans was delayed so long and some units have defective modules. If Titans were delivered as expected in July payouts would be much higher when difficulty was lower. We all were aware of the risks of this group buy.    Back when we first bought our part in this, who thought that we would see $240 BTC and $1.60 LTC?

Waldo stated he was mining at cex.io.  It was easy to verify this by following the payouts we received.  The coins were only 1 hop away from newly minted coins to a known cex.io address.

According to the math I've done, Waldo is paying somewhere around 23 cents per Kw/h.  It's unfortunate the Titans aren't being hosted elsewhere, as that is more than 5x what I pay for power.

The upside is that LTC difficulty continues to drop.  Maybe one day we'll be able to power up the miners again.  Any payout is better than none!

I do believe the BTC price will recover in the mid-long term, but right now I would be in the "let's sell the Titans on eBay" camp. I can re-invest the resulting $$ elsewhere with a better return.

I would avoid PayPal, personally. Maybe offer $1,700 paid in BTC? Circle is very easy to use if the buyer has no coin.

I think selling is a good idea, but getting payed through paypal can be a risk.
Paypal allows a transaction to be CC backed when the receiver claims its broken or

I'll go with the flow on whether to sell or not, maybe mothball them see what happens to future price or....I'm easy either way.

What to do with the money? well, one idea might be to reinvest it in alternative energy sources, wind, solar or veg oil diesel, find some land somewhere to install it and host other people's mining equipment using our alternative energy supplies.
As difficulties increase, mining equipment is going to end up unusable because of electricity costs, we can either buy it up cheap, or, host other people's units and run them literally till they fall to pieces.

Read the thread before asking questions, Miners were turned off because mining revenue - electrical costs = loss.

You're doing exactly what I would recommend.  Continue mining with the Titans while also keeping an open ear for any buyers.  Selling and getting back a small percentage of our money now is better than having the Titans sitting around doing nothing in the future.

$1500 of Bitcoin right now is about 5.6 BTC.  I believe each Titan was originally ~20 BTC.  So, with this sale, we're looking at getting back about 25% of our investment for this Titan.

In a perfect world with no energy costs and perfect 300Mh/s per Titan, a Titan would generate about 0.056BTC a day. So it would take a Titan about 100 days to generate the same amount of BTC (again, that's in a perfect world with no electricity costs or speed/difficulty variances).  So yeah, I think selling was the right call there.

I think you have been handling this as well as possible, so I am all for letting you decide on the best way to proceed.

It would be unfair to sell the defective units without informing the buyer and giving him a discount.

On the other hand, not taking up KnC's offer (which I guess is what they expect people will do), will mean that they can evade making things right for their customers. Their track record for doing that sucks anyway.

If the buyer agrees to take it upon himself to either accept the lack of performance or battle it out with KnC customer sodomy, errrm support, it is their choice. I wouldn't bother with it. By the time they send the unit back, it will probably only serve as a hamster cage.

But I will leave it up to you to take the decision.

Excellent news on the sales of all the units.  I think selling the units made the best of an unfortunately bad situation.  Any money we can all recoup from this is better than no money, and with the lower price of Bitcoin now we should be able to get back a reasonable chunk.
