Title: Re: Using electrum wallet Post by: o_e_l_e_o on February 08, 2020, 08:31:38 PM Once you have pushed a pin through the Opendime, you will be able to access the private-key.txt file. Inside there will be the private key corresponding to the bitcoin on the Opendime. There are two ways to transfer this to Electrum - import or sweep. If, as you say, you have set up Electrum to work with your Ledger Nano S, and you want the coins to now be stored on a private key under the security of the Ledger Nano S, then the option you want is sweep.
In Electrum, click on Wallet -> Private keys -> Sweep. Your private key from Opendime should already be in WIF format - you'll know it is if it starts with a "5". Opendime uses Legacy addresses, so you will need to prepand your private key with "p2pkh:" In the "Enter private keys:" box in Electrum, then, you should enter the following: Code: p2pkh:5youropendimeprivatekeyhere The "Address" field at the bottom should be an address in your Electrum wallet which you control. Double check this. So here it is, I hope that this image that I will share and provide will help you in sweeping your funds from your opendime account to your wallet. It shouldn't be a problem if you follow the steps on the previous post especially "DOUBLE CHECKING EVERYTHING".

Anyway, I did remember that op did ask how to link the wallet to electrum and TryNinja did answer what to do and also included on sweeping the funds from open dime to ledger nano s from the thread that the op created before. It was on january 28. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5221356.0Title: Re: Using electrum wallet Post by: rich1616 on February 09, 2020, 07:43:23 PM Thanks for all replies .I appreciate it . :) I hope you don't mind if i ask for some more users to verify this process ,as i haven' t come across it before . Call me paranoid, but i'd rather be sure . Thanks.

Call me paranoid, but i'd rather be sure . Thanks. Smart move. No one is going to fault you for being too cautious, especially with a process you are unfamiliar with. There are plenty of other helpful users around - I'm sure a couple will be able to verify my instructions. You can also read on the Opendime FAQ about how to access your private key: https://opendime.com/faq Quote Once the piece has been broken out, the file contents will change and the private key will be revealed in the private-key.txt file and QR code image. There is no way back, and once unsealed, you should move the funds into another wallet. Import the private key (private-key.txt) into any Bitcoin wallet to be able to "sweep up" the funds and spend them as needed. And you can read on the Electrum documentation about to how sweep the funds from a private key in to Electrum: https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/faq.html#can-i-sweep-private-keys-from-other-bitcoin-clients Quote Sweeping private keys means to send all the bitcoins they control to an existing address in your wallet. The private keys you sweep do not become a part of your wallet. Instead, all the bitcoins they control are sent to an address that has been deterministically generated from your wallet seed. To sweep private keys, go to the Wallet menu -> Private Keys -> Sweep. Enter the private keys in the appropriate field. Leave the “Address” field unchanged. That is the destination address and it will be from your existing electrum wallet. Click on “Sweep”. It’ll now take you to the send tab where you can set an appropriate fee and then click on “Send” to send the coins to your wallet. No need to create a 2nd topic asking a question o_e_l_e_o already addressed here. Wait a little bit and some other members will probably come along and offer some advice. Patience my friend. Title: Re: Using electrum wallet Post by: rich1616 on February 09, 2020, 10:52:56 PM Thanks [ adding p2pkh before private key ] is specifically what i'm unsure about ; it isn't mentioned in open dime guide [ your link] or anywhere else to my knowledge but yes,i will try and be patient ,until i hopefully get a few more replies and therefor feel more confident in what i,m doing . I don't doubt the validity of your answer btw ,it's just that moving crypto funds is quite a learning curve and notorious for mistakes. Thanks for your patience and help ; i do appreciate it. :) Title: Re: Using electrum wallet Post by: o_e_l_e_o on February 10, 2020, 06:19:01 AM adding p2pkh before private key On the page in Electrum where you input your private key to be swept, you can click the box which says "Info" at the top right which explains what you have to input for the different address types:p2pkh for Legacy addresses beginning with a "1", as in the case of Opendime addresses p2wpkh-p2sh for Nested SegWit addresses beginning with a "3" p2wpkh for Native SegWit addresses beginning with "bc1" Alternatively, you can try missing that out altogether and entering your private key on its own, as I suspect Electrum will default to Legacy addresses unless told otherwise. The worst that can happen is that it tells you there are no inputs to be spent and you can try again.
