I'll probably add a third guide here to help members to check the domain's registrar name and see where they can report the abuse and before archiving it. I'm sure most of the scam busters know this thing, but it will also be good if beginners would also try to method specially as we always preach to DYOR (Do Your Own Research).

1. http://whois.domaintools.com/

You can simply enter the website you wanted to search and it will give you a output like this:

As you can see in the image above, it will give you the domain registrar and the email where you can send the report, in this case, abuse@namecheap.com. Then you can go to this guide here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5226129.0), and then you can archive (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5224177.0) it for preserving the evidence.

2. https://www.whois.net/ - another good alternative.

3. https://urlscan.io/ - Will give you much detailed analysis of the website including: IP Detail, (Sub Domains), Domain Tree, Links and Certificates.

Remember as well that it might take several days before you can get a reply from those Registrars as they have to investigate first whether your report is good or bad.

I usually use this tool to check the registration date of a website. This will come in handy for newbies who are in doubt of a certain project's legitimacy since most of the scam project sites that are being posted here were created recently.

Good idea to create a third installment of the scam busting guides.

This is very helpful. Most people know this already especially scam busters but newbies still didn't this. There might be some newbies who wants to be a scam buster then any newbies would only open this thread on what should we do to bust a scam site is to archive guide 1 and report the phishing sites which is guide 2 and then guide 3 (this one) which is needed to show the details of the scam site.

Let me just share my experience reporting the phishing site [Warning] Fake Chipmixer website (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5225579.0).

The domain registrar replied to my email and send me another reporting links. So I need to go to another process and wait for 2 days more before they take down the site.

Because it really needs to be proven if the domain you reported is really illegal or done something bad to different users.
And also probably they have another problem; poor customer support like it takes time to get your messages like it's many other users who ask for them, so you need to wait before they will able to read your report to them. Another problem is their service is really trash, so expect a poor response.

How about having a thread, or page where members can register their domain names, and users could check to see if a trusted member is the owner.  I'd be happy to list mine,and to associate them with my Jet Cash account.

Actually do those abuse@host emails work for reporting those fishy websites? They might take action if there's a massive influx but if it's fairly new and only reported by 1 or a handful, I'm not sure if they would check on such isolated cases.

That's why most people would spread the news to get more reports. Checking abuse is time-consuming so it makes sense for those registrars to prioritize something.

For new domains or recently sold/deleted/transfer their service tends to be among the most reliable ones for web-based alternatives. Other ones might use cache services or scrape an API to avoid using more processing time by doing actual WHOIS requests.

Some websites have hidden DNS contact addresses using something called WHOIS protection. Can anyone tell me how they manage to do that? I thought everyone had to give them their contact information.
