Title: Small reminder for you when name your topic titles and tag with LIST block.
Post by: tranthidung on February 19, 2020, 05:07:50 PM
theymos wrote his guide: Topic title style guide (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=102944.0). You can read all of his guide, but in this thread I want to focus on this part only.
Quote
Some people like to put "tags" in the title within brackets. Like "[GLBSE] [ANNOUNCE] ASDF: Generic asset". I personally don't like this style. I prefer to include the tag info within the sentence, like "Announcing ASDF, a generic asset on GLBSE". When tags are really necessary, it may indicate that a new subforum should be created.
I see some threads have titles with tags, but the most annoying (for newbies) is
Code:
[LIST]

The tag is annoying when you want to mention about that thread, with url and topic title. Then, when you make your post, it will be broken because of the List tag.

If you know it, you will edit the title to {LIST} or {list}, just don't use bracket block.

Anyway, as I pointed out, it is annoying and troubles for people who don't know what is real issue and method to fix it.

Honestly, when I firstly faced with such troubles, I did not know what are issues.

My advice:
  • Don't include List tag in your thread's title.
  • If you still want to use List tag, please use: {List}, {LIST}, or List/ LIST

I give you an example at the end to help you see what is the break List tag causes.

Do you see that the thread I want to present is broken, it should be:
Code:
[url=https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5197548.0][LIST] Open Merit Source Applications,waiting list.[/url]

Using the term [list] isn't something to be afraid of - you just have to know how to use the term properly.

There are a few popular threads that use the term [list] in their threads:

  • [list] HQ posters renting out their signatures, avatars and personal text. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5230631.0)
  • [list] VanityGen Wallet Generation - threads, how to & links (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5151346.0)

(I never said there were many...)

Honestly, I don't know the tip you gave above so I am thankful for your tip, definitely.

Unfortunately, it requires some customization, that newbies don't know so they will still get troubles with List block in titles.

My pleasure - I first tripped over that hint when dealing with a user [btc]onfire (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=432078) a few years ago.

[btc] is another one that can trip up the unsuspecting.

You forgot to mention what you actually did:
Code:
[nobbc]-tag
I didn't know that one, so thanks :)

The tag is annoying when you want to mention about that thread, with url and topic title. Then, when you make your post, it will be broken because of the List tag.
My solution is to add a space when processing such titles: [ LIST] works fine :)

You forgot to mention what you actually did:

Actually, quite the opposite, I did it the way I did so that those who source code dive would be able to engage and delve into what I had written (and it worked)  :o
