Title: Bought Copper Membership - How to test post images and videos?
Post by: ETHWall on February 26, 2020, 02:38:25 PM
I just sent BTC to buy copper membership, which I'll use to post ANN thread.

Before the actual ANN post, I want to do some tests.

My question is: What's the best subforum to test posting images and videos?

First you need to active your copper membership.

Regarding posting an image:
Go to https://imgur.com
Upload the picture
Hit the Insert Image icon at the top of the text widow of the post you will type
You will see this code:
Code:
[img][/img]
Put the url of the image in between the img tag.
Hit preview.

If you see image then you can post it without hesitation.

PS: There are no board to test a post unfortunately.

I'd say it's Archival (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=59.0). You can do your test there, and delete the content once you’ve finished. I believe you cannot trash your thread in Archival, but you can leave the content blank. The board is full of test threads if you take a look now (some arte test Ann threads too).

This thread seems pretty informative on image placement and sizing: Guideline on posting images (with size adjustments), hyperlinks  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3974517.msg37748469#msg37748469)

The actual images you link should be less than 2,5 Mb.

1miau has a topic on websites that provide users to post images, but it is not written in English.
Bilder im Bitcointalk verwenden (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5213245.0)
You can use Google translate and try those websites by yourself and see which one is most fitted with your need.

Some sites have issues to display images in some cases and imgur.com is the best, for image attach and display on the forum.

Thank you so much for the detailed instruction, but the Preview button doesn't do anything -- I've already turned Adblock Plus for Bitcointalk, what else could be the reason?

It should at least show an error message for images it can’t load. Are you sure you have clicked the preview and then scrolled the page to the top? (the preview result is shown at the top of the page).

You are so right, the preview is at the top -- I was just used to StackOverflow style of in-place preview

The difference between StackOverflow and Bitcointalk is -- Bitcointalk never closes my question, and I'm so impressed and grateful to this community

I'm not sure if it will help you or not, but it's worth noting that you can resize your images in case they are too small/big for your liking :)

No. No one can do that as this isn't supported by the forum. What most people do is put a thumbnail of the video and a link to it.

How about video?
But you cant upload videos to the forum instantly because the forum doesnt support it. You must take a number of steps so you can direct people to your video by:
  • Send video link on post.
  • Create thumbnails that contain video links.

The step you have to do is:
1. Get the right picture.
2. Turn the picture into a link with imgur or others
3. Get the video link that you want to upload
4. Make a post like this.
Code:
[url=https://youtu.be/SLsGc-3dQa8][img width=500]https://i.imgur.com/5a0mhOJ.jpg[/img][/url]

Example:
https://i.imgur.com/5a0mhOJ.jpg (https://youtu.be/SLsGc-3dQa8)

So, I am looking into the same thing. If I buy copper membership I can make an ANN thread in altcoin and post images the same way a non 'bought' member could?

Yes, that’s one of the reasons to purchase a Copper Membership. Besides the image posting ability, Copper Memberships come with additional perks. If you are creating an Ann, and it becomes dynamic in Qs & As, the fact that you can make posts with less waiting time in between posts. The signature may come in handy too to further enhance your announcement.

..and videos?

You cannot post a video to our forum instead you can create a GIF
or
Hyperlink to the source of the video, how to do that is

Upload the video into imgur the same with the thumbnail.

This is how you can add video and direct to YouTube.
