Ƶibcoin
Bitcoin for everyone

http://zibcoin.org/

1 000 000 zibcoins = 1 bitcoin
0.000 001 bitcoins = 1 zibcoin

ƵSpecifications
No premine
Proof of Work: SHA-2562
Block time: 10 minutes
Block reward halves every 210000 blocks (about 4 years)
Initial block reward: 50 million ZBC
Total coin supply: About 21 million million ZBC (after about 130 years)
Difficulty adjusts every 2016 blocks
P2P port: 8333
RPC port: 8332
Configuration file: bitcoin.conf

How it works
  • About 290000 blocks already mined.
  • Every bitcoin owner can redeem their zibcoins.
  • Redeem 1 million zibcoins for each bitcoin!
  • Bitcoin and Zibcoin are binary compatible → smooth transition.
  • Bitcoins and zibcoins are freely convertible.
  • Fixed exchange rate: 1 BTC = 1 million ZBC

ƵRedemption
At any time you may choose to redeem your zibcoins:
  • Take one of your Bitcoin wallets.
  • Change the label of the wallet from "Bitcoin" to "Zibcoin".
  • For each bitcoin you are entitled to redeem 1 million zibcoins.
  • That's it! Happy Zibcoining!

At any time you may choose to convert them back to bitcoins:
  • Take one of your Zibcoin wallets.
  • Change the label of the wallet from "Zibcoin" to "Bitcoin".
  • You need to deposit 1 million zibcoins for each bitcoin.
  • That's it! Happy Bitcoining!

ƵMining
Zibcoin mining works exactly like Bitcoin mining.
Just point your Bitcoin mining equipment to your Zibcoin wallet and you'll be mining zibcoins. It's easy!

ƵBlock explorers
Unfortunately, there's no Zibcoin block explorer yet. :-(
The current work-around is to use "blockchain.info" and switch units to "µBTC".
Then you just need to imagine there'd be a "ZBC" in place of "µBTC".

This place will advertise the first Zibcoin block explorer as soon as it exists.

ƵPaper wallets
Step-by-step guide
1.: Take your Bitcoin paper wallet.
2.: Move the decimal point six places to the right.
3.: Remove leading zeros (if any).
4.: Replace "BTC" with "ZBC".
5.: That's it! Happy Zibcoining!

ƵExchanges
Unfortunately, there's no direct Zibcoin-to-fiat-money exchange yet. :-(
The current work-around is to use Bitcoin-to-fiat-money exchanges and convert to/from Zibcoin using the redemption scheme as described above.

This place will advertise the first direct Zibcoin-to-fiat-money exchange as soon as it exists.

Zibcoin is named for, among other things, ZIB the Soviet space dog.

Drafted at the last moment when the intended astro-dog was unavailable, ZIB survived a suborbital test flight in September 1951. Attaboy, ZIB!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_space_dogs#Bolik_and_ZIB

That means he got closer to the moon than any Shiba Inu.

We remember you, ZIB, and will spend "The World's First 100% Bitcoin-Binary-Compatible Altcoin™" in your honor.

Just do a 1/1,000,000 semantic stock split and be done with it.

Call them Bitcoins.

Just do a 1/1,000,000 semantic stock split and be done with it.

Call them Bitcoins.

If I thought that could get broad consensus, and the switchover carried out without too much transition damage, I'd favor it. Obviously, the sooner, the better, because each day of writing/coding around existing units bitcoin/millibit/microbit makes the switch harder. Still, I could be convinced.

But, if as I fear it's too late for that, or too late to do it in one big switch, then 'zibcoin' offers many of the same benefits as a 1/1,000,000th 'bitcoin'. Same # of syllables, similar sound, compact unambiguous abbreviations (Z/Ƶ/ZBC). It can be used as a trial/placeholder.

And if your ultimate goal is rebasing the 'bitcoin':

I actually think if 'zibcoin' catches on, it might become easier to someday revalue the headline Bitcoin. Zibcoin adoption means there are fewer labels/lines-of-code/stories that cement the classic, giant-bitcoin (BTC=10^8 satoshi, mBTC=10^5 satoshi, µBTC=10^2 satoshi) values into permanence. If day-to-day values are commonly quoted in zibcoin, casual adoption is smoothed, and the idea is planted that the "core Bitcoin system" is separate from its units, and can support multiple units.

And then, when "Bitcoin" is mainly used to refer to the system-as-a-whole, or the unit from the 'olden days' when you could get a million zibs for a dollar, then you could incrementally say... "OK, let's just call zibcoin units 'bitcoins' again." The zibcoin/zib words would be serving as the middle-step of a safer transitional process – a bit more like how soft-forks happen in stages, only taking full-force when most miners are ready. You then wouldn't need total consensus and synchronization for a giant 'flag day' incompatibility cutover.

You are right:

100 satoshis = 1 zibcoin
0.01 zibcoins = 1 satoshi

It's just like "dollar" and "cent".

While some have alleged this to be a fork of Bitcoin, the complete binary-protocol compatibility makes 'fork' a misnomer. It's more of a warm, loving spoon.

Come a little closer Bitcoin. We love you so much, we just wish there were a million times more of you.

Somehow this thread has wound up in the "Alternate cryptocurrencies" sub-board again.

Yet, zibcoin is an alternative to the alternatives. It's the affirmative!

Embrace Bitcoin! But quote everyday small values in zib.

Yep, I did it myself, so there's no bounty payout this time.

The next item on my to-do list is to integrate it into Zibcoin-Qt.

Somehow this thread has wound up in the "Alternate cryptocurrencies" sub-board again.

Not my fault: This was done by a moderator.

However, technically speaking, Zibcoin is not an altcoin.
So, I reserve myself the right to move this thread back to the main section again, as soon as we want to have the next attention boost. ;D

Are my bitcoins safe with this?

This is an important question.
The definite answer is: Yes!

The Zibcoin source repository is structured more like a patch than a traditional fork.

This means that installing Zibcoin is really like installing a new version/variant of Bitcoin.
Shut down your Bitcoin client before installing; then you can just install Zibcoin on top of Bitcoin.
There's no need to re-download the blockchain, because all Bitcoin data files are 100% compatible with Zibcoin.

For every version of Bitcoin, there will be a corresponding version of Zibcoin.

The Zibcoin Core development team aims to make only minimalistic changes to the source code, while closely tracking the upstream repository.
This essentially means that the Zibcoin development is backed by the world-class programmers of the Bitcoin Core development team.

Everything is done to protect your wealth in both zibcoins and bitcoins.

I think we should elaborate a little bit more on the space dog theme:

http://s28.postimg.org/x0dczqn99/roflbot.jpg

Because, you know, dogs are quite popular these times. :D

Any thoughts?

Congratulation you might have success with this zib coin, yes you really need to change the logo as this one is so simple to make with windows paint program. Also you should also post this in ALT coin section/ Or you already have done this?

I'm confused as to what this actually is. So is it an alt coin built on top of Bitcoin?

Thanks!

I agree that good artwork is needed to make Zibcoin a success. Unfortunately, I'm not an artist. :-\

Therefore, I call out for a public competition to make the most creative Zibcoin artwork. Let's think about ZIB, the space dog, and anything else that supports our idea.
The winners will be awarded a honored place in the Zibcoin community.

I'm confused as to what this actually is. So is it an alt coin built on top of Bitcoin?

No. Zibcoin is not an altcoin.

The following is true:

1 000 000 zibcoins = 1 bitcoin
0.000 001 bitcoins = 1 zibcoin

So, Zibcoin and Bitcoin are both referring to the very same monetary system, they are just different units.

Still an altcoin - people who use bitcoins won't recognise zibcoins - just not an altchain.
Zibcoin is kinda like the first altcoin, created by myself in 2011 Jan, Tonal Bitcoin (https://bitcointalk.org/?topic=218388).
Except Zibcoin seems to acknowledge some of the problems with SI, yet still wants to use SI...  ::)

BTW, ZBC has some rather unknown preceding (and obvious) use by Dozenal Bitcoin.

I think that both SI and Tonal are too difficult for everyday usage.
In everyday usage, what actually matters are short and memorable words, combined with a system that people are already familiar with.

People are already familiar with dollars and cents, i.e. 1 dollar = 100 cents.
"Zib" tries to do the same thing with satoshis, i.e. 1 zib = 100 satoshis.

If you just say "zib" without "coin", then it doesn't sound that much like an altcoin anymore.

"Zib" is the only integral part of this proposal, everything else is subject to discussion.

Because Zib Is Bitcoin, it'll only die if Bitcoin dies!
