Any positive news or sentiment does have an affect on price. Yet, bitcoiners have seen enough drama around the bans and un-bans (thanks to China), for this to really have much of an affect.

As far as the buying pressure from Indian is concerned, I'd be surprised if it makes much of a difference in the short term. The main difference will come in the long term as an army of Indian entrepreneurs and developers who were unceremoniously dumped due to this stupid ban will slowly find their way back and start contributing to the space. This will be an overall positive as developers can focus on India specific solutions. Eveything crypto and blockchain will no longer be untouchable.

I think so, although we could assume that even with the ban on cryptocurrencies in India right now, a lot of Indian people are still very much into crypto. We can very much feel it within this forum and in other social media sites. But a legal acknowledgement of cryptocurrencies in the second most populous country in the world would definitely affect the price of Bitcoin. It could be taken as a form of legal assurance to them. It is indirectly an encouragement for other people to finally decide to accept Bitcoin as payment or buy and sell it. The increase may not be that significant as I think the larger effect is rather gradual but, for sure, there will be an impact.

of course it will, any action that helps ease the adoption of bitcoin specially in a country with a lot of people who have shown a lot of interest in adopting bitcoin. but it won't be the way the news sites are saying, it won't be a sudden bullish move with a pump coming! it will be slow growth as more and more people adopt bitcoin. even though we may see some short term jumps too but the main rise will be in the long term.

I think we would feel the impact of it slowly or little by little.
It would be for a long term effect on the price not just a sudden pump and dump drama again.
I also think that it wouldn't make any difference because we still have so many indian member in the crypto community even before the ban is lifted.

Well I'm close to the region so I think it's really big news. And it has been big for a long time to be honest. I'm very happy for the decision, and maybe we can see some of the older indian exchanges coming back to the country after leaving. RBI will be very pissed about this for sure, wonder what's their response gonna be.

I remember that you're from India and I'm glad to know that your country has finally done justice to crypto lovers, also I'm confident that a massive upwards movement in Bitcoin prices is coming. As for the response from RBI it's simple that they'll either challenge this order, or your government will pass a rule and nullify this order. Another alternative for the RBI is to make Bitcoins legal, and ask Indian government to tax it but I highly doubt that they will choose this alternative.

Yes it is,

The issue of lifting the ban is a positive news for bitcoin and it can help in a way that a new country finally accepted (not actually adopted yet) and realized that banning bitcoin in their country is unnecessary. It can give a little impact to btc price but it will be very minimal.

The effect will depend on how big is the demand in India because demand will dictate whether it can impact the bitcoin price or not. Let's say that there are plenty of users in India but the investors are only few then it cannot affect that much to bitcoin price.

But if the demand in India is kind big then it can surely impact the bitcoin price in case the government of India will lift the ban on crypto currencies. It will be a good news also to the crypto lover if in case India will lift it's ban to crypto currencies.

Absolutely. But as pooya says, not a sudden boom, but a steady recovery. You've to remember, when it first happened, the sentiment slowly turned negative and exchanges left the country. Individuals had their bank accounts frozen and people just generally got really mad. It was actually good for P2P though!

But now, things won't heat up, they will rather thaw. I will need to see the central bank's own official response and what they'll do after this + the new legislations.

Yes ofcourse this is because many investors will invest again in Bitcoin and other crypto currency but I think this will not give huge impact maybe thiers some increase but this will probably not continue to increase more. This is because not all investor will buy again some will wait more dump to buy at cheap price.

We might see some effects but not in an instant and fast way. Don't expect some huge price jump just because of that and everything depends how demand and supply ratio will move and how vivid will becom cryptocurrency market in India. Anyway, I don't expect too much but some slight positive effects we might see.

You can 'unban' something but that doesn't mean banks will want to participate in any uptake. The business they do is entirely on their own terms. They're not obligated to take anyone or anything.

I hope it does allow the locals to have a play but it has never been any type of epicentre when there was no action taken against it. Considering the Indian government's willingness to ruin their own people other measures will be put into place by them if BTC starts to get serious traction in India.

We will see, this is really a big news around the crypto sphere because India is a big market and we are hoping that they could make a impact not just to the price but to developing innovative blockchain technology as India is known for their IT expertise.

So let's see how it goes, we might not felt the positive effect, but for sure India's crypto market are very happy and rejoicing with this victory.

No, because even after this news was released we can still see the price of bitcoin being stable as it is. There is no big response even after India decided to lift the ban on cryptocurrency.

Maybe because the public expected this to happen since we have encountered a lot of lifting ban before that's why we have lesser expectation from the local crypto industry.

I must disagree with you it would surely have some impact to the price but it would be for a long term,
What do you expect after the news has been released the people from India would go crazy and go all in into BTC?
Of course the effect or impact would take some time it wouldn't be a sudden burst like most of us are expecting.
And I don't really think that it would be huge since even before they lift up the ban on crypto there are still some Indian's who earns through crypto.

Did it impact when the ban was put in place? No!
Will it impact when the ban is lifted? No!

Unfortunately, no matter how large the country is in terms of population, it has close to zero effects on bitcoin.

It will certainly have a positive impact since it's in fact a big positive news.
Per https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/population-by-country/, india is 2nd largest population in the world, so we could expect some big impact.

As I was saying, basing this on the population alone is stupid.
If it were like that it would mean Bangladesh is more important than Germany, France, and South Korea combined.
Which of course you realize is stupid.

You can 'unban' something but that doesn't mean banks will want to participate in any uptake. The business they do is entirely on their own terms. They're not obligated to take anyone or anything.

That's the slight but important difference. It might get legal, but it doesn't mean people and businesses will suddenly use it.
In theory, we have 260 000 shops in Japan accepting bitcoin, if each of them would have a single customer paying with BTC we would see the mempool full of txs like in 2018. But..it's not! ;D

Firstly of all, i want the OP to understand that India don't totally ban cryptocurrencies because there are actually some part of India where crypto trading, investment etc are allow.
Meanwhile, if we put the present situations of India economy into consideration, theres opportunity for bitcoin price to experience a positive signal if the India governments totally lift up the ban on cryptocurrencies on the area affected.

Knowing India has many cryptocurrency players, lifitng its ban could mean a challenge and an encouragement to other Bitcoin users. Once they heard that the ban is lifted, there will be lot of players who will dig in, and possibly, BTC's price graph would change. What we don't know is if it will come down or go high if the ban is lifted - but possibly, it would be the latter. It can bring positive news as well as signal for other countries (if it would be a big news) to try to invest also in Bitcoin. Though there was no major impact in BTC, as the whole of India didn't experience the ban, its come back can surely make Bitcoin more alive.

Unfortunately, no matter how large the country is in terms of population, it has close to zero effects on bitcoin.

The major impact will be on the entrepreneurs who were trying to use blockchain for India-centric use cases/ scams..lol..Some of the old alts still have a lot of Indian devs working on freelancing or part-time basis. This had gotten affected due to the ban as people are pretty much afraid of regulations out here. Unlike the west where people are willing to risk a lot for their libertarian ideals, the need to sustain oneself is felt more than to fight for ideals.

This is true of the working population in most aspirational societies in developing countries. My hope is that people won't be backing off from bitcoin based projects thinking that there isn't going to be any money there. Its a net positive to the ecosystem here but i do agree that it won't affect BTC price noticeably.

It's quite obvious isn't it ?
If there is no ban on cryptocurrencies in India, it's obvious that more people will now get involved with crypto.
We don't know exactly how many people will be attracted to crypto at this stage but as time passes by, I am quite sure that the amount of people getting involved with increase steadily.
As the amount of people will increase, it will hinder BTC's price and movement and will surely increase the growth of bitcoin as well.

Short-term? No. There will not be an impact on the price on this news from India. It has to be more than just accepting it in their region in order to start the gears and keep it turning, though it is already a good start for the momentum to build up. Besides, think of it as opening a new pathway for the waters to flow. If the same volume of water flows on the same river but with an additional pathway, it will just divide the volume into different parts but would not overflow. It has to be more than that.

No, because even after this news was released we can still see the price of bitcoin being stable as it is. There is no big response even after India decided to lift the ban on cryptocurrency.
A lot of crypto businesses like exchanges and some others stopped their operations after the pseudo ban went live...Did you expect all those companies to resume operations right after the news came out? it's been like what, a few hours maybe?  ::)

India getting rid of the ban is EXTREMELY bullish, but we'll see the actual impact of it [in the cryptosphere] in the long-term once everything normalizes and people, companies, investors, etc start getting involved with cryptos (by trading, investing).

i don't think so.
i remember a couple of years ago, i think it was in early 2017, the bitcoin price over at India started growing due to an ever increasing demand in that continent. it was so big that the difference grew as big as 40%. but that rise never had any major effects on bitcoin price in other markets (the USD value for instance). which makes me believe that this time it won't have any major effects either.

Even if it doesn't impact price immediately it might later in the near future, the most important for now is the ban has been lifted and people from India will be able to engage in crypto again without any worries, I think the hostility over crypto from the government of some countries is gradually dying down and the road to acceptance had begun.

We know that India is one of the most populous countries active in the cryptocurrency world. And now India is officially lifting the ban
on cryptocurrency. Of course the effect is pretty big it should be, in my opinion it should be in the near future the price  of bitcoin
immediately rising by this good news. Especially now that we are at an important moment, where halving bitcoin will soon happen.
So positive news like this really helps make bitcoin prices go up.

Title: Re: Do you think, India lifting the ban on cryptocurrencies will impact BTC Price?

Just as negative news (bans) influence the price, positive ones (ban lift) also do. We could all witness what happened to the price of Bitcoin when China banned it in 2018. The ban in India was much less influential, but still, even 5% raise would be a nice thing. At this point it's hard to find things that don't impact the price of Bitcoin as exchange hacks, ETF denials, bans, stock market crashes, viruses, even tweets by some rich traders can do it.

This allows the people from India to save their money from the ill management of their government to their fiat. It gives them an alternative for keeping their savings, regardless of politicians.

Of course an increase in demand is going to put some pressure up, little or much, it will depend in how much demand it gets. The startups can even restart a source of wealth what was being stupidly blocked by (ignorant) politicians.

Its good news. And yes the second most populated country in the world should weight something.

I think that whether the sudden pump occurs after this big news depends a lot on the media coverage. If over the next couple of days no major hacks or negative statements by popular people are not in the news, whereas the news about India is popularized, I believe it could bring a pump. The slow growth is better in the long-term perspective, and I guess it'll happen anyway, but recovery would not hurt, as Bitcoin was doing pretty well around $10k for a while, and now it's down.

By the way, everyone, Bitcasino is running a giveaway with pretty good conditions, allowing people to predict Bitcoin price and win money. Check out here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5229828.msg53948541#msg53948541) if you're interested.

it should!

But, It will not affect the market significantly. The ban was imposed in 2018 and after that there were a lot of negative news about Bitcoin that made headlines in the national media.

Things will change but you need to waite for a period of six month or so.

I, at the very least, think so since it is quiet a significant news. I expect that other countries would have heard about what the ruling of the Supreme Court of India with its take with cryptocurrencies. Though I do not expect much of an increase but it would do good to establish the current mood of cryptocurrencies and might as well bethe starting point of the following increases in the price of Bitcoin.

it is very difficult to know. for example:

- I don't know how many people in India bought bitcoin using their bank cards

- I don't know how much money each person bought bitcoin in India

Without these two points that I mentioned, it is very difficult to know what is the impact that this news can bring.

The only thing I know is that countries like the United States, China and Japan have a big influence on the crypt markets.

We're going to feel the impact of this victory from India, this might not be eminent as such but definitely we're heading to another bubble. The victory is for the whole cryptocurrency community and worthy of celebration. Hope to see other similar countries facing such issues of cryptocurrency ban, getting victory like India. This has clearly shown to us that: the cryptocurrency has come to stay no matter what the hatters bing onboard. This is another victory for us.

But this is a problem that is still far from over. According to what I read last year, there is a bill that is being studied that is not good for cryptos in India. In other words, it is a war that will win who has more political support. I often think that if the crypto community has a lot of support from politicians, then the future of cryptocurrencies will be very good. Yes, I’m very sure that if they should lift their ban on cryptocurrency it’s going to have some positive effect on cryptocurrency price. I am very sure that there are people who lives there in India that might have stopped investing in Bitcoin because of it being banned.

But, if the government should lift the ban it’s going to make a lot of people to get back into and start investing. When people start investing it will have some effect on the price and the price will start going up. Maybe the changes will not be noticeable at first but as time goes on and as the adoption increases, it will start reflecting in the price. This is what I know for sure. Would be good if other countries will lift their ban on Bitcoin as well.

The decision form government against cryptocurrency will always give a big effect from to bitcoin and all cryptocurrencies prices.

Other than that, we got another good information like Germany and Korea which give a good effect for cryptocurrency movement price.

So, there will be a huge pump in a few days ahead we will see it buddy.

Depends on how much popular and demanding bitcoin is going to be in India. As far as I can see, it won't be causing much of an impact on the price of bitcoin. Remember, crypto currencies are global currency. Just a single country itself can't bring huge changes to the price of crypto currency. Even if they can, it is going to be a very short lived change. Again, even if the price of bitcoin starts to change due to trading being legal in India, it is just going to be because of a "hype" that will be created (which I also doubt is going to happen).

Besides,it will be really very good for the crypto world and also it will help the people of India to reduce their poverty by working in the crypto world. There are huge numbers of unemployed people living in India. So,if the government of India lifts the ban then it will not have any impact on the Bitcoin price.

I don’t know of this sure but there are a lot going on that seems to be affecting the Bitcoin price right now, and not just bitcoin but every other assets and stocks market.

There is Coronavirus fear and it seems to be affecting everything, the price for everything has been decreased to a very low, Bitcoin has fallen back to around the rate of $7,000 after making its to $9,000 plus and apart from that miners has been another case since they started selling out less of what they mined. There are still a few other things that may have possibly affected the price of Bitcoin and caused it to fall.

Without a doubt this is positive news but there is too much fear in the markets right now for this news to have any kind of positive effect, the dispute about oil crashed the price in a way we have not seen in a long time, the stock market registered one of their worst losses in history and the fear of the coronavirus is spreading, when you take into account all of those factors it seems really unlikely the price of bitcoin is going to show a positive movement during this week.

There are still a few other things that may have possibly affected the price of Bitcoin and caused it to fall.

I think not only the corona virus can affect the price of bitcoin to $ 7,000 but this could also be the cause https://cointelegraph.com/news/plustoken-scam-moves-123m-in-bitcoin-just-as-btc-price-regains-10k
This is hot in the conversation right because it has become a scamer and has an impact on the cryptocurrency market so that this impact could have happened because of this.
But for the corona virus, I think this does not have too much impact on cryptocurrency.

Even though India is huge millions of people live in extreme poverty. They couldn't contribute anything. The question is how much is the middle class willing to invest? How much would the rich elite invest, if anything!?
In the last couple of weeks we have had two important headlines but it hasn't impacted the market positively. I am talking about Bitcoin being accepted as money in France.

Maybe it is just bad timing. The good news getting shattered by Coronavirus, stock market crash and the big sell off of hacked Bitcoins.

I think in the long run it'll be a net positive, while yes the timing is crap right now, legislations timings don't usually line up with community sentiment around bitcoin, it's just the way it is. I think the fact that france made it legal is also great news!

There was a small bump in the price after the announcement was made that both India and South Korea was willing to allow Bitcoin to be used in their country. The "use" was not unrestricted though, because it looks like this would be accompanied with a lot of regulations to restrict Bitcoin users and merchants to strip pseudo anonymity.  ::)

India are predominantly a country with a large amount of people that are living from hand to mouth, so I doubt that there would be millions of poor people buying bitcoins. The people that should be buying bitcoins are the workers from India, working in other countries and sending money home to their families. <Now these families can pay directly in bitcoin, because more and more merchants would be allowed to accept it and there will be no need to convert it to fiat to do so.>  ;)

Perhaps, it can affect the cryptocurrency as a whole, but will not impact that much. We all know that the country of India has people that are widely exposed to computers and technology. So, there's no wonder that they know how to acquire cryptocurrency even without Government knowing it. And with that regard, I highly believe that they already contributing to the cryptocurrency space and the lifting of ban to their country will make them to access crypto easier. Who knows, maybe it will be a way for them to invite others who aren't into crypto to figure out how good cryptocurrency is for seamless transactions.

They've got a lots in terms of populations, if most of them will be exposed and begin to use crypto since the government already lifted the ban of using it from their country, the chance to accumulate more supports and more interested people to invest and work inside this industry. Crypto business will be more healthy and the impact might be positive to the entire market.

The impact of this recent update from India is little to no in terms of its impact on the price of bitcoin. India is a developing country and does not have much investors putting in any huge amount of money into the investing in cryptocurrencies. The countries whose approval of bitcoin will cause a major rise will be China, USA, Russia, Germany etc.

- I also agree that the impact in the removal process of this ban will affect bitcoin's value very little but the reason is not your analogy, the reason I think about is the hype of information, topics and information surrounding bitcoin is always an opportunity to trigger volatility in the market, investors like FOMO such information, so events from India will cause slight fluctuations in the market. However, the accuracy and probability of this information is not too high, observing the direct movement will probably see more opportunities, instead of relying on information.

One of the largest country today already accepted the use of cryptocurrency and that is the Indian today the market price of the bitcoin and all of the other coin are fall down because of the pandemic virus that is the covid 19 and some of the people today are worried about the cryptocurrency if India make a move like the other country who is already adopted the use of crypto I think they will change into the whole market. But still, we are looking forward to the acceptance of the other country for the use of the crypto because it is the most secure and fastest transaction without any hassle of payment also we are getting avoid the contact to the scammers because all of the transactions are safe and legal.

Those who are outside India may be unfamiliar with the situation in India right now. Let me explain a bit. In India, the Supreme Court and the government are having serious disagreements on a number of issues, and the legality of cryptocurrency is just one of these topics. And another thing that everyone should remember right now is that very few among the government ministers are having a good amount of knowledge about cryptocurrency. And therefore, the bureaucrats are the one who formulates laws and regulations regarding this subject.

A few months back, one of these bureaucrats (Subhash Chandra Garg, the then Finance Secretary of India) came up with a suggestion to impose a 10-year jail term on anyone holding cryptocurrency. He formulated a detailed regulation on the ownership of cryptocurrency, which included harsh punishments to anyone even remotely associated with crypto. Fortunately for us, this draft regulation never got approved by the government. Mr. Garg was fired from his position in 2019, after he entered in to a bitter duel with the leadership of the Hinduist RSS, over the subject of sovereign bond scheme.

From my own perspective, YES; It would have an impact. This is because a lot of Indians are into the crypto world. Some of them are bounty hunters, some of them are traders, etc. If the ban is lifted, all the Indians who were not sure to step in or step out would be know their grounds and I'm sure they are many of them. I still remember seeing some comments on a thread where some Indians were complaining about the ban. That alone shows how enthusiastic they are. And mind you, this impact could be negative or positive. I just hope that the ban be lifted (for the growth of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and for the betterment of all Indians).

Of course the lifting of the cryptocurrecy ban in India has had a positive impact on the price of bitcoin. As we know the population of India
including the most in the world besides China. So with the legal bitcoin now in India, Indian citizens are very likely to buy bitcoin and can
be used in daily life. With Indians who are likely to increase who know cryptocurrency, possibility is likely to have an impact on the demand
for bitcoin on the rise and this will also have an impact on the price of bitcoin on the market.

This ban lifting will surely impact BTC price because this will open new market for people to do trading and such safely. An addition to that having the cryptocurrency being recognized as a safe item for monetary purposes. One country recognizing BTC as a stable currency means that it is a win for the cryptocurrency market.

India lifting the ban is surely a positive news but the thing to consider here is the Coronavirus impact on the market that has taken the market down like a storm.
The whole stock market has been affected due to this and the people are in a state of panic. The crypto market is facing the biggest losses since bitcoin is down by more than 30%.
Bitcoin has dumped from $9000 to almost $6000 now and I guess it will pretty hard for it to recover the price before the halving.

Nobody cared when India "banned" bitcoin, nobody cares if India unbanned it.
Despite having 1.5 billion people, India means close to zero for the market, 90% of the people there can't afford to buy anything other than food, how do you think they will manage to invest at much as the other countries?

And right now with the current situation nobody gives a damn about the rest of the world, everybody is focussed on Europe closing down (I'm in self-isolation right no btw), if the EU stops you won't be seeing growth in anything for a year at least.

Well.. I am not going to argue. I am from Nepal, which happens to be one of the countries that border India. A large part (may be one-third of the population) of the Indians live in poverty, but India is home to dozens of billionaires and thousands of ultra-high net worth individuals. If China is an important market for Bitcoin, then we can say that India is also one of the major markets.

Exactly, we can't appreciate any good news now although this news is quite big because of the fact that people all over the world are in panic right now.
This pandemic has destroyed not only the crypto market but the economy and we are feeling it now, and we can't do anything but to continue to monitor the situation and just do what we feel is right.

We can find a way if we will, really, bitcoin dump 50% from its high this year so far, I think in less than a year we will be back and maybe consider borrowing money from the back, they can offer low interest, probably 20% below per year, you are still in profit in case it will take a year for this market to recover.

it will definitely impact the price of bitcoin one way or another. As more countries lift their banhammers on cryptocurrencies it's highly likely that prominent coins in the market pump in the prices. And India being a country with a large population density and much more people who are open to investing instead of saving. Cryptocurrencies, particularly bitcoin and possibly ethereum can thrive in their market. With increases of atleast 2% approximately. So statistically-speaking, India lifting their bans on cryptocurrencies may open huge doors for bitcoin to thrive in a new market.

Well , India did lift the ban of cryptocurrencies and it didn't show much of a growth with respect to the price.
Because honestly telling people from India who were involved in bitcoins , even after the Ann they were still involved.
They were buying , selling and local bitcoins did not put a ban on that simply because government never did fully ban the bitcoins..
Only banks were creating a problem , so people were still using bitcoins paying a lil extra , for the intermediate fee.
Therefore the price increase shouldn't be that much.

Of course, the growth of crypto will never be at high indices through the breaking of bans because the ban in India or many other countries, all can only deter some people who want to start participating in crypto, for other users, they are not too concerned when they know that this blocking will not affect them, their capitalization can still move in the market every day, scrutiny or management from the government is non-existent. Such too simple information from one country will not cause many problems for bitcoin, only unified information creates danger

The legality of using bitcoin will have a positive impact on the growth of bitcoin users in a country and in this case India. India which previously banned bitcoin and altcoin has now lifted the ban. For a global scale, prices may not be influenced by the legality of a country against the use of bitcoin, but this will increase the popularity of bitcoin in the country through its users.

The price of bitcoin is basically influenced by demand and supply in the market, if the population of India, including investors intend to buy large amounts of bitcoin after the legality is obtained, then there is a possibility that prices will increase. And now what is causing the price of bitcoin to increase?

Definitely it should affect the price positively but not with immediate effect. This will need to build system to purchasing cryptocurrency, keep it/store safely, build project around it that can proffer solutions to immediate problems in the country. They need to build trust and educate big population on relevant cryptocurrency transactions and storage. Bank response will also be very useful in the adoption but after this imagine the targeted millions in the country

The cancellation of the Reserve Bank of India restriction regarding servicing cryptocurrency banking operations does not solve any problems there. Cryptocurrency in India is still not legalized and, in general, the attitude towards it is rather contradictory there. This country needs legislative certainty. Only the decision to legalize cryptocurrency can change the situation and positively affect the price of the cryptocurrency market.

The sentiment in the market does not show the confidence we expect and presence world economic sphere has displaced every price projection. Even with revoke of ban, market sentiment will help better adoption. it is a better time for ban removal and fund from that side could give the idea of the height of the bull market. We are getting better position in the market, we need the virus to be controlled, price pick up to cover the 200 week and halving in May.
