Post by: elsniper on March 10, 2020, 09:33:30 PM
Blockchain advocates have hailed the recent Indian Supreme Court’s pro-crypto ruling as a landmark for adoption and development. Now, new forces are emerging that seek to put the brakes on India’s rapid embrace of cryptocurrency.  What do you think about the future of crypto in India, guys?

First of all, if you find out this news from somewhere, please include the link here.
Regarding the crypto in India, it should have a better future with this legalization. I think with the big population in India, it potentially brings some impacts on crypto world.

Still can't understand why everyone is so hyping around crypto and India.
People may hope for a positive impact from the legalization crypto in India. Sometimes, the good news about the adoption of crypto in a country can trigger a positive move in crypto prices. I assume this is what some people expect from the legalization news.

We have already witnessed the affect of crypto legalization in India as the wazirx coin's value had pumped up as its based out of India and most of the users who were operating through proxy or secretly don't have to take any further risk as its legal now and considering the number of users who might adopt Bitcoin now post green signal from the government will be massive and we might see further projects based out of India.

I can see it from another different approach.
Cryptos are legalised in South Korea and recently the government encourage people tu use crypto for paiement to maximly avoid body contact that helps Corona virus to spread. the Bank of England advises people to wash their hands after handling money because it can hold bacteria and viruses. So it's adviseble to set a contactless system for regular paiements. Nothing but the technology can help in this case .
It's maybe another initiative from India after the news that the virus can be transmitted by money touch.

It was legalized already but the question is, are they prepare for the risk that involves in crypto? I don't want to discriminate against the people in India but I'm not sure if they are willing to take the risk nor they have knowledge in crypto that could help to succeed.

Anyway, that was great news to hear and hopefully, it will be supported by the locals. People might give their interest in the future and have crypto establish in there will give them an option to take and accepted as a mode of payment. And find it more useful in their daily life.

The future really looks bright for our Indian crypto enthusiast. I mean they can now freely trade bitcoin without looking at their shoulders as if someone is following your every crypto move.

It could also boost crypto In way, imagine just 10% of the population or even 1%, joining the crypto space, that will be huge, in my opinion.

The last time they have banned cryptocurrency in their cpuntry,

The Reserve Bank of India  had imposed a ban on cryptocurrency trading in April 2018 that barred banks and other financial institutions from facilitating “any service in relation to virtual currencies.”

Now, they lifted it already.

Quote from: Nischal Shetty, founder and chief executive of Bitcoin exchange platform WazirX.
“Historic day for Crypto in India. We can now innovate. The entire country can participate in the Blockchain  revolution,”

Isn't great to see that they finally can use bitcoin without thinking that they are violating some laws. They can now participate in this new technology and enjoy the advantage of this bitcoin. India made a good decision to finally accept bitcoin as it can also help in financial status.

i don't know about "crypto" but bitcoin has always been legal in India as far as i can tell. but like always a lot of people fell for the social media nonsense that believed that it is banned over there while the only thing that happened was that their banks started causing problems for their customers who were using their accounts to dump fiat and buy bitcoin and eventually closed any account that did this. that has nothing to do with a "ban" or "legality" though.

I think it also takes time for other countries to permit bitcoin in their own country, especially as a legal payment tool, and this is still polemic, there are also some who oppose it, so that bitcoin is still above reasonable
For in India this news has been circulating a few days ago so there have been many positive appearances for those who heard it, especially in the last few with the rise in bitcoin I think that's quite positive.

For the benefit of those that would like to get a direct link to the ruling of the supreme court against the ban placed by the Indian reserve bank on crypto, here is the link https://www.coindesk.com/indias-supreme-court-lifts-banking-ban-on-crypto-exchanges . As far as india is concerned crypto has come to stay in that country. Yes the forces against crypto are still fighting back the ruling as the reserve bank is preparing to file a review of the supreme court ruling (https://www.theblockcrypto.com/post/57987/indias-central-bank-plans-to-file-a-review-petition-on-supreme-courts-crypto-ruling-report). One thing is sure, Crypto always win.

True, the higher levels in India got a lot of wealth, enough to support their investments on cryptocurrencies.

Cryptocurrency legalization in India has a great impact in their country. As we go back from the years where in Indian Government are against on it, a lot of projects that were developed and organized by Indians turned into a failed projects and some are totally SCAMS because of it's Government unwanted issues.. It really were painful for them to be so called SCAMMERS even if they weren't the ones who made the problems.. And as they legalized it and one project stands to it's purpose of introducing CRYPTO in their country, MASS adoption will come on their way.. People now will start to accept and to understand how crypto really helps today... Congratulations India.. Welcome to Crypto market...

I think this is expected. India un-banning the use of cryptocurrency will definitely have a positive impact on crypto people and would surely develop more projects for the crypto community. I just wish it isn't a copy cat of what we had in the past years. I'm really tired of looking for projects who only turn to a shit coin after some time.

One of the most secured transaction today is the use of cryptocurrency and many people are using it because they know it is faster and does not need too much verification most of the users today are widely spreading the use of it and one of the largest countries today are now using it before China next is south Korea and finally now the India those country are one of the most profitable countries that wants to make more adaptation with the use of money and transferring funds and that was great news to all of us because there are many people today now are making a huge contribution into the field of cryptocurrency but still there are some restrictions about their funds like just limiting the transaction to avoid scamming, and hacking.

India actually includes technology in the country that is updating itself with very rapid development with that technology. so it should be appropriate for the state to accept crypto and legalize it. I agree with you from many projects that a scam,  is better the government can manage it well so that not many are abusing it.
globally means crypto has increased recognition from the country, this is a very good prospect for crypto itself.

I wasn't aware that there was a massive ban of Bitcoin in India?
I thought it was all legal since it was first introduced?
I mean, I saw a lot of Indian people who are crypto enthusiast, investors, and some even have projects. I saw Indian people talking about Bitcoin and other alts on YouTube.
Anyway, these legalization will surely give positive outcome for the investors and project developers in the country. I'm just not sure whether it will give good impact to Bitcoin's the current price trend today.

I read that already in other threads here and I am still surprised that it isn't legalised before in SK, judging that it is almost like it is a developed country as Japan so I expect that it is widely used there by now.
Somehow I see the current outbreak also as an angle of why we're getting many legalization lately, but on the other side of my thoughts, Fed is also quarantining money to avoid the spread of the virus though.

Not really, only some oppose this. Yes not all are favor with the court rule but as you can see, crypto wins and the supreme court itself announce their support to it. To be honest, this legalization proves that crypto can indeed be legalized on other country like what happened on South Korea and France. In my opinion this initiative will be follow by other countries if not now later on.

Obviously, Bitcoin will be the upcoming globalized coin so gradually all the countries are accepting the Bitcoin. The recent drawback was little affect the many investors so slowly it will accepting the legal. I think currently corona virus was slowly affect the all the countries so it make big noise in crypto  platform. Once stopped the corona issues automatically bitcoin will going to moon.

The market is collapsing while we keep seeing covid19 to be the reason.  Its very crazy actually that it took months already yet there is no cure for this corona virus. Maybe its not going to stop until countries will all legalize crypto and turn to cryptocurrency after all the banknotes are collected.

If that's the case then it was a really good news for us. The legalization of cryptocurrency in India will be a good help for all of us in order to convinced more countries to adapt and promote the legalization of cryptocurrency to their country, I am just hoping if this happening will have a great impact to the marketplace of the India or the economic rating of the said country.

India legalizes cryptocurrency I am sure the development of cryptocurrency in India will be more rapid.

Is this really true? Someone posted here and I can't find it now that this is still being talked by the government of India. In terms of its future, I think it would be good since India is one of those countries that supports Mobile payment (https://www.raconteur.net/finance/mobile-payments-systems-india). With bitcoin, I think India would love using it.

We can't really say that this pandemic is affecting bitcoin. There are a lot of other reasons why the price fell and that is not because of it.

Earlier in March, Indian Govt & RBI officially announced cryptocurrencies are legal in India. So, most crypto traders are interested in investing in cryptocurrencies. But, they need no centralized authority or middle man. If you are the entrepreneur who wants to invest your capital in Cryptocurrencies, this is the right time to forward into the crypto marketplace. If you want your exchange more familiar like Coinbase, I would like to assist one such Idea, that is starting an exchange with INR based, so you can easily sell more cryptocurrency because of the popularity of India. In the future, you will become the heavy competitor of all the popular cryptocurrency exchange platforms.

The legalization of bitcoin in India will have a huge impact to the current economy of the market. It might lead to rising up of the price since there are new community that supports the usage of bitcoin. It might encourage also other countries to legalize bitcoin in their country also if they saw the positive impact of it.

During hard times due to the Covid-19, we need a good news like this. Mass adoption is really gaining more people in some part of the world and it will really help us achieve our goal in cryptocurrency. India has the 2nd most largest population in the world and it will become a good factor for the cryptocurrency to grow. Hopefully, India reach its goal to legalized cryptocurrency in its country and I know that people will not have a hard time promoting it. Again, due to the virus, I think South Korea will encounter some hard time to pass the movement of legalizing the cryptocurrency in their country. But as a crypto user, i'm hoping for them that they will also be successful just like India.

Not just legal but banks have started buying and selling Bitcoins , people can even witness the zebpay going back to the times where there were no restrictions on bitcoins .
India have made bitcoins legal and this is going to improve later in the years for sure.
People actually stood up to the government and the good thing is government listened unlike many other countries India is going onna good road and I think it is going to become bitcoins hub in the next years.

A successful project from there that I know of is Matic, one of the most popular startups. You can see here other Indian projects that you should know about https://t.me/ico_analytic/1663.  The market potential is also good for a large population. maximizing the adoption of crypto in various fields there will be very potential.

This legalization usually inflicts positivity and hope among the crypto community with regards to acceptance and usage. I think India had realized that with the current situation, it is normal to jump to countermeasures that might help them survive. India is a very promising country and this news can be widely known among other countries and who knows, if more country would adapt and furthermore legalize the use of cryptocurrency in the market.

I will support your thought. One way or another, Bitcoin will return to operation after external stimuli come to naught.

Another thing is that those people are selling at these cheap prices or not buying at current prices, will regret when they will see bitcoin to 3x-4x in few months time. We need to understand that the current crisis is temporary and after this all the markets will be back to normal. If bitcoin dumped more then expected, it will also pump unexpectedly.

The legalization of bitcoin in India will have a huge impact to the current economy of the market. It might lead to rising up of the price since there are new community that supports the usage of bitcoin. It might encourage also other countries to legalize bitcoin in their country also if they saw the positive impact of it.
I agree and I was also of the same opinion but the price has dropped dramatically since then and there were some rumors that as soon as crypto was legalized there were big whales in India which cashed out their bitcoins which earlier they could not and that caused a sharp drop in the price but I believe as many sellers there are more are the buyers in the market so that rumor just seems to be funny and illogical.

On a funny side, I don't know on behalf of what rules there was a ban on purchase of bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies so it is pretty impressive that the governing bodies are working properly and lifted the ban, I wanted to ask a question if bitcoin mining was also legalized or it was already legal? Because if you allow something to be purchased then you cannot ban it's mining either, right?

Still can't understand why everyone is so hyping around crypto and India.

It's huge news and it can impact the crypto market. India is a large country with a huge population! By accepting cryptocurrency, Indian people can now deal Bitcoin openly and many Indian projects are coming now! Crypto needs mass adoption, and without government legalization, crypto can't achieve it! So, it's not just a hype, this is really something big achievement!

Good news after several year India banned using bitcoin as investment and digital assets for trading and as currency payment, when India have make bitcoin become legal transaction need for seeing other country want to adopt bitcoin and altcoin as legal payment too.
But with the Corona Virus around it seems there is no effect in market and besides everything drops even Bitcoin so i think we need to handle this case By Holding.
The flow of prices not mending for what we want instead favoring the whales plan.

Of course bitcoin will return everytime if fells,in 2018-2019 the bitcoin price falls down to $3,000 level but in the 3rd quarter of 2019 we experience another bullrun and brings us good profit of almost 16$k

Is a Bad news mate and you have already mentioned that Corona Virus makes everything in the world shaking now.imagine falling more than 45% in just 1 day?
You might be right but I guess it is good opportunity for Indian bitcoiners to buy bitcoins now because the price is down and recently they allowed bitcoin transactions so I would say this is like another buying opportunity for everyone in India to buy some bitcoins before it sky rockets again very soon.

Good news after several year India banned using bitcoin as investment and digital assets for trading and as currency payment, when India have make bitcoin become legal transaction need for seeing other country want to adopt bitcoin and altcoin as legal payment too.
You must be careful when you read any news because if I understood correctly, they allowed bitcoins to be bought and sold because there is no law in constitution that denies the purchase of any asset but let me make it clear, I am quite sure the government hasn't legalized bitcoins for payment method just yet, although they might do it but I see the chances are pretty low for adopting bitcoins as payment option officially.

It is indeed a large country and to think that crypto is now legalized there is really good news not only for them but on the community also because this is basically having a large community and we are having a big possibility that there are lots of potential investors that comes from that country, as far as I know, there are lots of people there who are good at computer programming and making technologies, maybe their knowledge can help the community better and can build useful technology that can be used in the future with the help of cryptocurrency. This is definitely good news knowing that another country has legalized the usage of cryptocurrency, and we are not just stopping there, we are looking forward to that country who still banning cryptocurrency, we are all hoping that they recognized the goodness the usage of cryptocurrency.

This is a big milestone on how long the cryptocurrency journey has been. From 20k bitcoin to this, that is a very big step. What I worry right now is that the government will try to wrestle control of the cryptocurrency in the market making it state controlled which I am an advocate against it.

You're right there, from the acceptance of India many other country will follow their way of thinking when it come to technology most especially the digital currency. They have showed the way and will lead many other nations to invest into the new technology in times of crisis. The current crisis has taught many nations lesson on the importance of using the digital currency in assets storing, though the recent downfall was harsh on cryptocurrency but, it will come very much stronger than usual and many will definitely hold their portfolios in digital currency.

Well for sure it's a good news but the other info you gave is wrong. Most of the people now using Digital Currency in India is not true as survey (recent ) says over 90% of the Indians don't know or don't use digital payment system . So that's huge number , when it comes to blockchain most probably 1-2 % are using it according to me .

I can see it from another diverse methodology.
Cryptos are legitimized in South Korea and as lately the administration empower individuals tu use crypto for paiement to maximly maintain a strategic distance from body contact that encourages Corona infection to spread. the Bank of England encourages individuals to scrub their hands within the wake of handling cash since it can hold microscopic organisms and infections. So it's adviseble to line a contactless framework for normal paiements. Only the innovation can help for this example .

I think Blockchain technology on of the best and secure technology in the world. So My request to Indian government legal Crypto in india.

I agree with you, people seems to confuse the two terms with eachother, cryptocurrency was ban years a go in india by the central bank, all the Supreme Court ever did was to lift the ban and this doesn't in any way means cryptocurrency activities are being supported by the idian government but it is not a crime either and this is the state of many countries with cryptocurrency activities.

I think with many countries now trying to legalize crypto, and that will give a big chance to see an acceptance of crypto in all countries. But right now, the focus of each government still on the pandemic, and they still hard work to cure the people and to prevent the virus from spreading in other people. But sooner or later, we will see the using of crypto will increase more than now, and that can increase more if in each country finally, accept and legalize crypto for used in their countries. That can help people too to buy something using crypto besides using their credit and debit card, which mean the cashless will happen globally.

I totally agree with your opinion. India is one of the most populous and largest economies in the world. Given the legitimacy of cryptocurrency here, its spread will be more. As a South Asian country, we Bangladeshis are more happy. Because I hope that the government of our country will also be interested in giving legitimacy to cryptocurrency.

Good for them adopting the cryptocurrency, I can understand the worries their government have about the use of bitcoin for illegal purposes but it would be pathetic for me if I ignore innovation and change, nobody can stop that. This is a big step for cryptocurrency being acknowledge by governing authorities and getting an approval, but I believe that it should not just lie with the government, the people should also participate in this innovation because they are the driving force on why cryptocurrnecy was first created. Sadly for my country though there are no regulations and any grounds putting cryptocurrency legal or illegal which is kind of sad because people are stuck on a limbo whether they should completely trust cryptocurrency or not.

I think you tagged wrong link about mobile payment in india. It’s not involved regarding Bitcoin transactions. Paytm is popular payment method in last several years. Now it’s accepted in grocery shop as a digital payment method. Btc isn’t accepted in mobile transaction yet. India is rapidly going in crypto, already a big crypto exchange launched, @CZ helps to grow crypto community in this country.

I have been following the trends about cryptocurrency in India. I do believe that the government will buy into it eventually. It is normal for such innovation to face opposition. Change is hard to grasp but nothing can beat disruption

Once they figure out that Bitcoin is the perfect money for tracking payments in their new cashless society, they will be "all in".

The real question becomes, is it too late to stop bitcoin and the extinction of freedom on this planet?

The IMAI vs RBI2 shows the most recent position of law in India regarding the stance of cryptocurrencies. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) first issued its ban on banks' dealings with crypto businesses back in April 2018 (the 'order'), which took effect in July of that year 20183. The RBI notification was then challenged before the Supreme Court of India by the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). The Court, whilst deciding the matter, looked at the draft bill which has been proposed (but not passed) by the legislature, namely Banning of Cryptocurrency & Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill, 2019. The Court held that the stand of the legislature cannot be gauged from this bill as the bill, on the one hand, imposed criminal liabilities on the users of cryptocurrencies and criminalized certain activities like mining, holding, selling, trade, issuance, disposal or use of cryptocurrency in the country. On the other hand, the bill paved the way for the government to introduce its own digital currency, namely 'Digital Rupee,' by the Central. Bank. The Court also emphasized that The Crypto-token Regulation Bill, 2018 initially recommended by the Inter-Ministerial Committee contained proposals (i) to prohibit persons dealing with activities related to crypto tokens from falsely posing these products as not being securities or investment schemes or offering investment schemes due to gaps in the existing regulatory framework and (ii) to regulate VC exchanges and brokers where sale and purchase may be permitted.

There is still no cryptocurrency regulation in India. After the decision of the Supreme Court of India on the recognition of some restrictions of the Reserve Bank of India on the circulation and use of cryptocurrency as illegal, there is again a legal vacuum. Therefore, it is impossible now to claim that cryptocurrency in India is legalized. There are currently no legal acts regulating her circulation. We expect that legislators and the government will decide about cryptocurrency, because so far they have not adopted any legal acts regarding cryptocurrency.

The Reserve Bank of India has strict rules to stop the use of cryptocurrencies. They banned banks and financial institutions from offering services or trading in any cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin. Meanwhile, the Modi government has also introduced a bill titled 'Banning of Cryptocurrency and Resolution of Official Digital Currency Bill 2019'. The future of crypto in India is going to be much better and in the next step, the Supreme Court has ruled that it is legal there will be more improvements through blockchain technology.

I see the crypto community in India is so big, it's a pity if the Indian government does not immediately legalize cryptocurrency.
Moreover, the state of the Indian economy is currently suffering, due to the spread of the corona virus in India is very high.
If the population of India allowed to use Bitcoin, I'm sure will help prevent the spread of the corona virus and with Bitcoin
residents of India can increase sources of income too. I see that the future of crypto in India is still unclear, even though
I am not an Indian citizen. But I sympathize with the legality status of cryptocurrency in India, may the Indian government
soon realize that presence cryptocurrency is really needed by the population of India.

Good for them actually. This means that they are open to the opportunities that the Cryptocurrency Industry can give them BUT they must make sure that it will still be fair for all users because once that they place sketchy or unreasonable restrictions, then that would be really bad to those users who are making a living out of it.

Legalization of Crryptocurrency is a big move because it is already somewhat legal UNLESS you are using it for bad motives. That also means that the government recognizes it as a mean that can help improve their economy and trade.

They lack of affirmation whether they will allow people to use cryptocurrency or not.

Just like other countries, their decision towards cryptocurrency should be finalize so that it don't make any confusion or dismay to the people who are hoping for it to become legalized. Maybe their country is not that prepared regarding the proper regulation of cryptocurrencies into their economy. Probably, they lack of knowledge and experience in allowing it to regulate in the market that's why their decision is not that secured.

it is natural that India can accept crypto, because we have to admit that they are one of the leading countries in the field of technology. so in fact they must be pioneers to be able to introduce to the countries around them that crypto is very profitable and can help the country's economy.

The Indian government lacks a crypto regulatory body and also that crypto is pretty new to Indian society unlike other societies the Indian government isn't stressing towards cryptocurrency or blockchain adaption. Even the Central bank of India is against the use of cryptocurrencies in the country and is having a case in the court regarding the banning of the use of crypto and related items in India. The Court has ruled in favour of crypto users once after which the 2-year long ban was lifted off and now we will see what happens in the future hearings and that will decide the fate of cryptocurrencies in India.

The confusion stems from the fact that you see many articles with contradicting views, one says India is going to legalize bitcoin and the other one says they are planning to ban bitcoin, the problem is only one can be true and i do not see any article that says that it is legal which means there is a law written for cryptocurrency but there was a ban on exchanges and that was overturned when the exchanges approached the court.

I am seeing most indian base project are also making some noise right now.

I have a whole lots of those projects in my wallet just steering at me, with the hopes that's they will turn a furtune in future. But come to think of it HODL is not a scam just like when people underestimate it. Few have paid off big time. Crypto is making its way through and for sure it will make more waves.

Out here in Africa (Nigeria) bitcoin ATMs is already trending, so if India is to legalised Crypto I bet it's a welcome development and a perfect adoption from my end.

I though that they already adopted the use of cryptocurrency in the market on March this year.

They are still having a conflict again with their government doubting the legalization of cryptocurrency in their country as they are really not that into a more digital currency to regulate in the market. For me, if you really want to learn something, you will try and see the effects or results from it for you to continue. I'm hoping that they already realize those benefits and advantages of cryptocurrency in the economy to help them grow and have a stable economy. The Court should really have a wise and finalize decision regarding India's approach towards the use of cryptocurrency in everyday lives.

yes they are already accepted Crypto last march but the  banking companies are still against the legalization for obvious reason since people don't trust them anymore and crypto is what  Indian people looking forward to have as investment and savings as well.

This argument will stay forever in India until the realization from the banks happen and they admit to adopt crypto instead of going against it.

The Indian banking system is the worst in the world. Most government-backed banks are in trouble as they have a large pile of debt because of bad loans and big scams.

Private sector Banks are also going through the same phase. With all this happening most investors are moving away and investing in the cryptocurrency market.

This has become a concern for the banks and they are now trying their level best to get cryptocurrency banned in India.

I don't think they ever would because there are already a massive number of tax evaders and if you allow crypto payments to be legal then there will be a terrible situation as no one would keep their money in bank rather just keep in bitcoins and evade taxes.

Just like other countries, their decision towards cryptocurrency should be finalize so that it don't make any confusion or dismay to the people who are hoping for it to become legalized. The reason why there has been so much confusion and ambiguity around bitcoins in India is because the lack of knowledge by the government whether it is in their interest and how it works and the possible problems if they are legalized. The government never had the proper committee who would review and take a solid decision.

From what I have understood so far they have allowed transactions to be made in crypto but they do not consider bitcoins as a legal tender.
