Title: Where to post a giveaway?
Post by: vickersja on March 18, 2020, 10:22:51 PM
Hello.  I am giving away a GekkoScience NewPac to one person who watches a video and registers for a site.

I posted in Games and Rounds and Off Topic, but both were deleted.  Where should this type of post be housed?

Thank you.

It's better if you move it to meta section since it's a forum related question.

I can not remember the exact thread but few weeks ago I have seen a thread from theymos about giveaway threads. It was something about to PM him. May be someone else can guide you.

I just checked your deleted post (through Loyce.club)
Sharing referral links is against the rules. So, the forum has no board for your giveaway.

Thank you.  I reached out to theymos for the best place to put a post like that.

Got it - missed that.  Are signatures exempt?  I see that everywhere.  Thanks.

I think games and rounds section is the right place to post giveaway.

You can find it from here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=71.0

I post my giveaways in the collectibles and games sections, but goods might also be appropriate depending on what you’re giving away and how you’ll be doing it. Since you are requesting people register for a site though and aren’t giving away a collectible (I once had an auction moved from collectibles because it contained hard to find mining equipment), maybe the services section might be appropriate as you are requesting a service and offering a payment, which isn’t really a giveaway.

Thanks.  Yes, it is difficult to find the right place to put a giveaway and it can be quite subjective depending on the giveaway itself and the method.

I am ok with being asked to move or putting it in the right spot, but deleting the post without any context does not help me solve the problem.

Appreciate it.

Moderators have a lot of threads to move, delete, trash daily, do you think they will ever have time to message everyone of those posters to move their threads to the right section? You should read the rules, that's what they expect you to do, and on areas you still consider gray, you ask questions, just like your did in this thread.

games and rounds is the right place to put your giveaway if its in btc or usdt but you need to remove the referal link if you dont want your thread to be deleted.

If its related to altcoin the right section will be bounties (altcoin)  .

If you want to put referal link you can have this in your signature instead of  having a thread.

Well, if there's a reason for the deletion it would be much quicker for the OP to realize. Don't blame him though.

Who would ever wonder how helpful this thing could be?

A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by a Bitcoin Forum moderator. Posts are most frequently deleted because they are off-topic, though they can also be deleted for other reasons. In the future, please avoid posting things that need to be deleted.

That's the problem, the auto-PM content has to be reworked so at least the recipient is able to be informed why, not just it was deleted.

I get a kick out of this part:  "In the future, please avoid posting things that need to be deleted".  Like, no kidding.  :)

But the kicker is that I didn't event get this canned message.  I just went to look for my post and it was gone.

I reckon when a thread instead of a post (individual) is removed, all affected users won't receive the notification. So yours was basically nuked and whoever that replied won't receive it too.

What if it is not a link but they ask for people to optionally used

Make it as a free raffle in goods>collectibles.
What about registration in a website? What is this site about? Make this just an extra rule ro a raffle winner. I think that will be fair

...
There's no need for that as reading the thread, it shows you that he just want to use a referral link and that will likely be the use of his signature space, so the giveaway was not really from him.

you might want to ask him via PM instead.

that's why we have something called PMs, Only Signature and Text from your profile are exempted to this. Any posting 9referral links) is likely prohibited in any board.

your bump case isn't a referral link only, that is about an altcoin giveaway also (main case/on a topic) which is forbidden on any board.
