Title: On what basis can Mods edit users posts ?
Post by: Harkorede on March 25, 2020, 02:14:30 PM
On what basis can a Staff/Moderators/Admins edit a user's post ? If only a portion of the post is harmful, sensitive or contains perhaps, certain threats, is it likely for such posts to be edited instead of being deleted ?

I came across this for the first time 1 or 2weeks ago, where a post was edited by Mod and I tried to checked using loyce.club to see If the post contains any potential harmful links or text, but since the archive online archives the first post, there is nothing harmful about the said post, at least imo. Yesterday, I saw the same thing about another post, and there was nothing harmful about the initial post as well according to loyce.club's archive which is what brings about my curiosity.

1. I can't find the thread, but I remember vividly it was a post from QuickSeller calling a Mod/Staff names, and I could have sworn I have seen worse on here.

May be a mod can answer you for your question but I am curious to see such posts. If possible can you share the posts? I can not remember if I have spotted any so far and not sure if it happened with me ever too.

Throughout my time spent here, I've yet to see a mod edit any user's post, even if it's written to great lengths. Not sure if any would want to do so, since they might be accused of tampering/ meddling.

To be fair though, the mod could either ask the OP to edit or risk getting it nuked.

1 scenario - If poster bumping the active thread by posting back to back posts. I noticed this in gambling thread when one of the mod edited the post instead of deleting it.

Sometimes mods merge multiple posts in a row into one post, instead of deleting them. Sometimes they resize large images and/or trim wall quotes, for example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5228802.0

Thanks, these posts explains it all. I didn't think of that, I guess it was because QuickSeller's post was somewhat highly critical of a Staff, so I supposed some of the context were removed, although I didn't make any sense to me, because why edit a post when it can be deleted on the same grounds for being inappropriate.

I'll lock the thread now.
