Title: My Newbie Expedition Post by: webtricks on March 25, 2020, 04:47:33 PM Finally after 4 days of work from home, my company halted operations for 3 days due to recent lock down announcement which means I had 4 additional hours at my disposal today. So I decided to go on expedition and during last 3 hours, I traveled around 150 threads, reading over 1000 posts. The purpose of this expedition was to find quality newbie accounts having zero merits and give them their first merit.
The basic factor for giving merit was that either account has written a good post or has overall adequate quality. During this expedition, I checked more than 80 newbie accounts but most of them were awful, clearly spamming or clear case of account farming. Prior to starting, I had 34 sMerits at my disposal which I thought I would easily send to 34 deserving newbies in less than an hour but to my surprise, forum is seriously lacking new accounts who are genuine posters. So at the end I am hardly able to find 20 accounts after 3 hours and this is where I decided to stop for today. Other factors considered while giving merits:
Here are the newbies benefited from my expedition: kpllvd BlinkInDie naaimmd OGEOS ExpressVPN Pronzegirl HodlerKing101 viennemariela Mr_know_it_all000 OracolXor Sternbinder merc1969 kemoglo bdbountyon bithisach TCW003 Scotslass Kaonashi1993 lesjokolat CryptoLordguru Title: Re: My Newbie Expedition Post by: ChuckBuck on March 25, 2020, 05:01:03 PM It would be better if you took more time to add the link to each person's profile, it would be more convenient for us to review and send merit to them ;)
In order to talk about new members, I don't watch them often. Because most of them don't care about the rules of the forum, the rest are usually someone else's alt accouunt because they know so much that a new member cannot know. You will see my merit history and posts and profiles which I merited. Title: Re: My Newbie Expedition Post by: DireWolfM14 on March 25, 2020, 05:21:50 PM Here's a list with clicketylininks. I organized them by their user ID numbers, oldest accounts first.
I noticed some of these accounts aren't exactly "new," the oldest one was registered 4 years ago.

You are also right that it's very difficult to find many newbies with quality content. I tried merit giveyway in the beginners section recently but from several applications I could find only one worth merit. The purpose of this expedition was to find quality newbie accounts having zero merits and give them their first merit. You have your reasons I understood but to restrict your target newbies to ones have not yet earned a single merit, it will make your life more difficult, even you are doing the good thing. Good newbies are good newbies and there is no difference that they have earned merits or not yet.I have a substitute for you: The future of Bitcointalk: Low Ranking Top Merit earners in the past 30 days (the last update was made on March 21, 2020, 12:50:42 PM) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5185736.msg54070005#msg54070005) Title: Re: My Newbie Expedition Post by: Pmalek on March 26, 2020, 10:35:24 AM I tried something similar a few months ago. A few newbies had fairly decent posts and I awarded about 10-15 merits altogether. But overall it is an ungrateful task.
As time passed the interest for my thread diminished so I gave up on the whole idea. Title: Re: My Newbie Expedition Post by: sheenshane on March 26, 2020, 11:34:51 AM This is a good initiative of yours mate the way to help newbies. I think 15 days is too early to consider them as a good poster if there is, I always doubt they were alt with someone. Sometimes I'm thinking of wasting merit they received if they will nuke or even ban because real newbies are prone to that. Maybe 30 days or 2 months will be considerable for them to receive merit, IMO or maybe by case to case basis.
This user (kpllvd (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2784658) is about 3 days old account and gained 3 merits. No doubt of what user's achieved. I agree about this. Good newbies are good newbies and there is no difference that they have earned merits or not yet. |
