Title: Address and funds problems
Post by: LolipopCash on April 01, 2020, 12:23:28 AM
Hi, I'm having a problem with a Bitcoin transaction. I logged in to my wallet using a different software than usual (Exodus and not Samourai Wallet on Android like always) with my mnemonic address. Then I sent $70 in Bitcoin to my usual address which is supposed to be linked to this wallet. The problem is that when I connected to my wallet against with Samourai Wallet, I had nothing, no transaction and I don't have the same address anymore. So what happened ?

Thanks !

Do you have any idea what the address was?

Generally when you use an address the address no longer gets listed as a receiving address for privacy purposes but if both were downloaded from reputable sources, you'll have the address in your wallet most likely.

Could you try restoring it on the old software you were using - samouri?

I never used any of these wallets. If you have seed / private key then you can try importing the wallet in electrum.

They're both mobile wallets, you won't be able to recover them on Electrum mobile if it's the only device op has...

I think the Samourai wallet is relying on the password that is why you have different addresses from Samourai wallet and Exodus wallet.
And it seems that the Samourai wallet is not compatible with the Exodus wallet according to this (http://support.samourai.io/article/7-importing-a-wallet-from-another-app) it's not listed there.

And they might have different derivation paths that is why you can't find the address from Exodus to Samourai wallet.

Do you still have access to the Exodus wallet?
If you want to get your funds out from Exodus you can follow this below if you don't have access to your Exodus wallet.

Read this below it will also help you to recover your funds from Samourai wallet to Electrum.
- Samourai Wallet doesn't show my funds (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4834341.msg43674459#msg43674459)

Yes, That's most likely the case.
Samurai's passphrase is actually "BIP39 passphrase" which will change the derived addresses and keys depending on it.

@LolipopCash if you've used a different passphrase than the one you've entered before and previously sent bitcoins there, that is the issue.
You have to enter the same passphrase when restoring the seed phrase, the PIN however can be different.
If you've sent the bitcoins to your Exodus wallet that doesn't support BIP39 passphrase, then leave the passphrase blank when restoring the seed to Samourai.

I think OP is sending to his old address and not a new one which is generated by Exodus tho. The issue is likely what nc50lc mentioned above.
Then I sent $70 in Bitcoin to my usual address which is supposed to be linked to this wallet.

That's too risky.

Did you mean to quote me? What is? A lot of people just have the one machine... In Europe and North America you normally get desktops, laptops and mobiles but I don't think they've quite reached everywhere yet so some just have mobiles...

Electrum will use a different derivation path to samouri and exodus so you can't use it to restore your wallet unless you have a desktop handy where you can change the path.

I thought you knew that Electrum Mobile currently doesn't support BIP39 seed, only on the development build or next release,
that's why you replied that he wont be able to recover it to Electrum.

@Royse "too risky" as a reply to that post didn't made sense.

It's what I was trying to say without mentioning the derivation path in order not to add to the confusion. I really don't want to suggest changing the derivation path, as with a lot of wallets it can get very confusing as to what their standard derivation path is and it's difficult for a new user without experience to try to use when they could just bash their mnemonic into another wallet that accepts their words.

So here was the problem, the BIP39 was wrong. I tried another one and it worked ! Thank you very much !

Ah, so it's simpler than most of our guesses.
Actually that's what I initially though but most of the time, it's not the case. Congrats BTW.
