Title: Posting downloadable PDF/ eBook links
Post by: Maus0728 on April 07, 2020, 05:07:41 AM
Good Day Everyone

I just want to ask if distributing a direct link of cryptocurrency PDF or Ebook for downloading purposes is allowed in our community. I recently checked the Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0) but unfortunately I didn't find any answer to my question if it is allowed or not. I also run a quick search in the community to find any related thread to avoid clogging or posting repeated question but the results are just people who are selling their PDF or ebook even though that some of them can be found on the internet.

I have found several Bitcoin / Blockchain Book in my arsenal and I am planning to share it to the community so that they can be productive during their stay at home quarantine. The only thing that bothers me is that if I post this links

Am I refusing to conform into the community rules?
Am I violating the laws that pertains to copyright infringement?

I think it would be very beneficial for all of us if these question can be included in the Frequently Asked Question or maybe if possible in the Unofficial list of rules, guidelines. Thank you everyone. All your answers are appreciated.

It's fine.

I had same question as yours and I remembered some of staffs replied that it is fine, so I made my Collections for someone who would like to improve English skills (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3864751.0). I think you can do the same. I am sorry that I can not remembered where I got an answer from a staff (maybe a global moderator).

AFAIK, there is no rule against posting educational materials, like links to videos and e-books. I have come across some over the years here on the forum.

Am I violating the laws that pertains to copyright infringement?
This should depend on the privacy right on the material itself and can not be decided by the forum administrators. If there is no copyright on the material, then you can share it freely, but if there is, you'll have to conform to fair use (https://wikispaces.psu.edu/display/IST432SP11Team18/How+does+Copyright+Law+apply+to+E-Books) of the material.
However, AFAIK, this is not directly moderated by the forum.

The law is pretty clear, at least in the USA where Bitcointalk is effectively based. Linking to "pirated" content itself is not a crime, and thus would not be in violation of forum rules. I know of no forum policy that would forbid it either.
