Title: Claiming Bitcoin Cash from Bitcoin Core Wallet Post by: jeffski on April 10, 2020, 12:20:26 AM I am finally getting round to claiming my BCH from the fork in 2017 but am having a problem if anyone can help.
At the time of the fork I had X amount of BTC and was using Bitcoin Core wallet software. A few months after the fork I transferred my BTC to a new wallet. Today, to claim the coins I installed the BitcoinABC wallet, downloaded all the blocks and then copied my old Bitcoin Core wallet.dat file to the BitcoinABC wallet directory. When I restarted BitcoinABC wallet I can see a BCH balance but also all the transactions that occurred after the fork, BitcoinABC shows my balance close to 0 and not what I had at the time of the fork. The transactions after the fork are all showing as unconfirmed. Do I need to do anything to get the balance to adjust, do I need to wait for the unconfirmed transactions to be rejected or do I need to issue some commands to get them rejected? Any help much appreciated. Setup a new secure Bitcoin wallet (create backups!), and move all your Bitcoins from your old wallet to your new wallet. To avoid confusion later, label your old wallet (I suggest "compromised for forks") and make sure nobody is going to send any Bitcoin to any of the addresses anymore. Don't delete your old wallet. 2. Wait until your Bitcoins are confirmed on their new addresses. 3. Export the private keys to the addresses that hold Forkcoins. 4. Start with the most valuable fork, and work your way downwards from there. That means Bitcoin Cash comes first, followed by Bitcoin Gold. 5. Install a Forkcoin wallet. Make sure this wallet can't compromise the rest of your system. 6. Import one private key at a time (this reduces the risk if you installed a rogue wallet), and send it to the exchange of your choice. 7. Repeat steps 4-6 for all other forks. I personally did not have the chance to claim BCH because I had very little amount of BTC at that time. So I do not know much about it. Check the link, I hope it will help you. Title: Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash from Bitcoin Core Wallet Post by: jeffski on April 11, 2020, 02:17:54 AM Running the Bitcoin-qt.exe file with the command: --zapwallettxes=1 fixed it. It removes the unconfirmed transactions and re-scans the blockchain getting rid of the old BTC transactions.
