Title: Extra carefull using remote application , meeting apps
Post by: akirasendo17 on April 10, 2020, 03:46:52 PM
Be careful using application during this time that we are under quarantine, always check what application you are going to install
Specially remote access and sharing of screen.

During the past few days there is an application that are said to be careful with its zoom application
since everyone is at home we tend to use this for remote and presentation even video call and other office work
aside of-course for those company with vpn connections
So if you are currently using this application, i think you should find another way to communicate, if your using your laptop, phones with sensitive data
and if you are using those device, better uninstall it at the moment until they are clear since hackers are doing penetration, because of the reward , and might also compromise your information and data files in your devices, im not saying that the app is bad but for our safety and for our crypto, which might make hackers more interested in, lets step away for a moment
i will post a link below for you to read also for more info:

i hope this help us keep safe guys

Hell, I have been using this for a while to communicate with my team mates. Zoom is supposed to be the great tool to have video conference. Although I have no much sensitive data on my phone other than a temporary bitcoin wallet which I don't use most often. Thank you for the heads up.

I read the article and I can understand why zoom is suddenly been targeted my scammers and cyber criminals, any convenient way to see friends and loved ones is appreciated at this time we are all cut off from each other and that's what zoom offers, and why their users have multiplied tremendously. Those who use this app should really be careful or stop using it for now. Fortunately for me I'm locked in this lockdown with my family, so i have not had any need to use zoom.

Ah. The Zoom fiasco. I know 2 people that are currently working at home(obviously due to the pandemic), and while they're completely aware of the privacy risks of Zoom, they're pretty much forced by their higher ups to use Zoom. Surprise surprise, most people don't give a crap about privacy, unfortunately.

Btw, apparently a decent privacy-respecting alternative to Zoom is Nextcloud Talk[1]. Can't comment on it though, haven't used it.

Basically we are giving storage and camera access to these apps so we have to be really careful when installing such apps, never gives any compromise even if you don't have any sensitive data guys because it can be a problem for your private life as well since everything gets recorded and uploaded to somewhere when the mobile screen is off as well or even you are using it for other things like taking pictures.

Where I live, the police placed an alert for both Zoom and Jitsi, stating that there both allow for a third-party to gain access to access to steal credentials and to obtain admin privileged on windows. Strangely enough, they’ve deleted the information throughout the day, allegedly due to some patches resolving the issues, making the alert obsolete.

One really need to contrast the news on various sources though: Jitsi claims that the news are fake (related issues were fixed years ago), and I would not feel safe about using Zoom. So not only is there the problem with the platforms themselves, but the related misinformation originated spread from sources you are meant to trust ...

I've used this for online conferences and meetings before and didn't think that there will be an alert like this.

There are still some other conference/meeting apps that we can use if this Zoom issue wouldn't end up quickly.

Fortunately, I don't use that app because I only use Skype when I need to meet with the others, and so far, Skype will be the best thing for me. The OP suggests it makes sense because we never know from where the hackers will trying to penetrate our computer, and they can find that way by scanning the open port or the other things.
