Title: [ANN] MinePit - The future of mining pools
Post by: MineP.it on March 20, 2014, 07:49:30 PM
http://s28.postimg.org/uykd5uhf1/minepitlogo.jpg

Hello

Just wanted to make everyone aware of a new service we have launched in beta mode: MinePit https://www.minep.it (https://www.minep.it).

What is MinePit

What MinePit (currently) offers is essentially 2-fold.

1. A client application that allows you to monitor and remotely control your miners from any web enabled device with a browser.
2. A collection of mining pools that can be mined with or without using the client software

Some things you can do after enabling the client software on your local network:
- Control your miners from your bed, on a mobile phone, tablet or laptop
- Control the intensity of your miners from the web based control panel
- Control what pools your miner is mining
- Monitor stats such as hash rate, temperature, accepted/rejected shares and more...

Some things you will be able to do soon:
- Pool autoswitching based on various rules
- Scheduled mining rules
- Auto trade mined coins with customizable selling rules
- And more to come...

Installing the app is quick and easy. After creating an account at MinePit you will be able to download the app, and after a quick edit of a config file you should be up and running.

If you're just looking to mine, we have various pools on offer and will be constantly adding more. We aim to offer a good variety of coins and will be happy to take on board feedback from any users. Additionally only one account is needed (your main MinePit account) and then to start mining a new pool is just a couple of clicks away. We currently support Scrypt and Scrypt-N coins but will look to add support for more algorithms if necessary.

Benefits of mining at MinePit
- Only one account needed to access all our pools (no need to keep registering for each coin)
- Custom interface (not your standard MPOS websites)
- Auto payouts every 3 minutes
- Max 1.5% fee (promo codes will be available at various times)
- High end, scalable server infrastructure
- DDOS protection
- Auto worker creation (no need to keep creating workers for each pool/miner)
- Integrated IRC chatroom to talk with your fellow miners

Current Pools
LTC - LiteCoin
VTC - VertCoin
DOGE - DogeCoin
FTC - FeatherCoin
MEOW - KittehCoin
POT - PotCoin
KDC - KlondikeCoin
FLAP - FlappyCoin
FAIL - FailCoin

If you feel like giving it a go then hop on over to https://www.minep.it and sign up.

We'll be taking feedback here in this thread and in the on-site chat room.

Let us know what you think!

P.S. To aid the launch we are offering 0% fees for the first 50 users, for life.

Thanks...
MinePit Team

This actually looks really good!

Rofl at the post above re the 2 miners image! Just proves that we don't always see what others see when we create graphics!!!

Seriously though, it does look as if a lot of effort gone into this - will be digging deeper.

Hehe, yes, a LOT of effort has gone into it! We've been using it internally for a couple of weeks now and we find it really useful. Hopefully we can get some users giving it a try and get the community involved a little more :)

Nice interface indeed, signed up to mine MEOW.  I guess I didn't get into first 50 :( profile shows 1.5% fee.  Will see how it goes.

Would be great to have common pool address switchable between individual coin pools internally (at least for script coins) if I don't want to install control software.

There is an announcement on the site that they had and resolved outgoing email issues.

I actually started using site (logged and configured pool) even without using confirmation email.  There should also be an option to resend email in the account settings somewhere.

Not yet, if there's enough demand for it we can look at implementing that.

Sorry we had some issues with e-mails being blocked - they should be sorted now but for those who didn't receive their activation email I've manually activated all the accounts.

EDIT: I'm not sure it's back from the dead yet - but we can try! :)

Hi Zedicus,

I understand where you're coming from but, to be honest, this isn't an open source app. It's something we've put a lot of time and effort into and we don't just want to post all our code for everyone to be able to copy and clone left, right and center.

All the app does is feeds all your miner's stats to our website, and also sends signals FROM the website to your miners to tell them which pool it should be mining, instructions to throttle up or down etc. You can see everything in CGMiner as it happens so you know where it's mining at any point in time.

If you're really worried you could always use some kind of monitoring tool like http://www.charlesproxy.com/documentation/additional/http-monitor/ until you feel confident that the app isn't doing anything shady.

I know security is a big issue these days but this app is really something we feel could be a lot of use to a lot of people - we're in it for the long run so really wouldn't want to do anything dishonest that would jeopardize the future of the site.

I know you understand where im coming from because its almost "etiquette" for this kind of app /service to include git link!!

The reason for that is so that we dont have to take your word that the app does only what its supposed to!

I know security is a big issue these days but this app is really something we feel could be a lot of use to a lot of people

Clearly you dont think security should be at the forefront of a mining operation. Clearly you havent thought it through or maybe you have other reasons for not providing the source code.

Hopefully you are not the IRS gathering emails and mining info and sending it back to their servers or should i say the server that picks who gets audited next!

or Hopefully "you" are not controlling our miner remotely from any device.. a lil "one for me and one for you" bit..

or Hopefully your not ... ( oh wait.. thats right we are supposed to take your word and close our eyes and jump? )  :o

its conventional thinking that got us in this mess financially so people will soom realize that posting your work source not only is a great idea but will help you to further
your idea as many people come in and make it
better.. ofcourse if you know your stuff you will have first to market advantage and usually win market share..
but if you are weak and lazy someone else will come take it.. isnt that how it should
be? If you dont feel that maybe your
not a long term bitcoin supporter but a short term thinker. This idea of open source is exasberated in devcoin where you get paid for it.. so one day people can work from around the world collaborating.. the open source idea again is against conventional wisdom thus a good idea mathematically.

In an ideal world maybe that would be true - but this isn't an ideal world unfortunately. This is a product we've created. We've invested time and money into building it and don't want to give our source code out to everyone so it can be instantly copied and cloned. We need to take every advantage we have to try and claim our market share before that happens.

If you go to Dyson and ask them how they make their latest vacuum cleaner, they're not going to give you their design sheets... because it's their product. Why would they want the competition to know how it's made?

At the end of the day it boils down to trust. We're here for the long run and so we're happy to wait a while for that trust to build, which it eventually will as there is nothing dodgy about it at all. We will be 100% open and transparent about the operations of the app without giving away our source code. Everyone nowadays has virus scanners and malware scanners etc - feel free to scan the app with whatever you feel comfortable with. Plus, as I said earlier, everything the app does is monitor-able. If anything was going on that shouldn't be it would be immediately obvious.

If you're not comfortable with using it at this point then that's fair enough, but others are, and are enjoying the benefits of it as we speak.

Again your inline with conventional thinking.

Think outside the box.. ie deflation in todays banking? You must not be a bitcoin believer.. mayne you missed that part.

If dyson gives it away and people copy and paste why would people go buy their service? Maybe its cheaper?

a) Dyson invents new features instead of
being lazy
b) People start to trust dyson more than the ripoffs
c) If no incentive to start a dyson someone will end up doing it for real cheap..

Notice that the end user wins every time? Are we out to make the world better or to make YOUR world better? Which side are you on?

b) People start to trust dyson more than the ripoffs
c) If no incentive to start a dyson someone will end up doing it for real cheap..

This is too simplistic. Think about the long term consequences. If Dyson give out all their new designs to the competition then those other companies will find ways to make them cheaper, sell them cheaper, and thus undercut Dyson. The long term effect of this is that Dyson will no longer invent new features etc because they'll be going bankrupt! So.. the market leader gets undercut, goes out of business and what's left? A bunch of greedy copycat clones that have no initiative or desire to push the market forward. Does that sound good?

Notice that the end user wins every time? Are we out to make the world better or to make YOUR world better? Which side are you on?

We're on both sides! We're obviously looking out for ourselves as there needs to be some reward for our time and effort in creating these innovations. But the main focus is the end user - without the end user using the service then there is no service. But again, like the Dyson analogy, if we give out all our hard work to everyone who wants it so they can copy it and release it then our reward will be significantly, if not completely, gone. Thus our motivation to innovate further is reduced. In the end it's about trying to find the right balance I guess.

I guess what im saying doesnt exist.. and I wonder why every business ever created will always fail.. I think it has something to do with becoming complacant and not tuned to market demands.. by going open source your forced to pay attention to market demand.. Dyson would have to keep market advantage by innovating instead of becoming too cozy with what they have.. undercutting happens yes but I do believe Id pay a premium to pay for a dyson if Dyson offers better customer support and warranty and known trackrecord.. somehing that the leaches wouldnt be able to offer.. the cheap people buy the cheaper optiom only to learn the long term cost implication of their decision ended up costing more...

I know where your coming from but I think if we push for open source we may just end up pleasantly surprised..

There's a problem with the coin really (yes.. hard to believe I know). The nodes often lose connection and so the payout cron fails. This disables the cron so I need to keep resetting it. This would be the same for manual payments also. It's just something we'll have to try stay on top of manually. If anyone has confirmed coins that they're not getting please post here and I'll sort them out.

Just a quick overview of recent happenings:

We've added a new "MPOS style" website interface, in addition to our responsive/mobile website.

Added several new pools - current running list:

CleanWaterCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/water/)
DogeCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/doge/)
eCent (https://www.minep.it/pool/ecnt/)
FailCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/fail/)
GiarCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/giarcoc/)
GollumCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/glm/)
GreeceCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/grce/)
KimoCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/kmc/)
KittehCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/meow/)
KlondikeCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/kdc/)
MatrixCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/mtx/)
MunitiCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/mun/)
OctoCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/888/)
RotoCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/rt2/)
Surge (https://www.minep.it/pool/surge/)
VertCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/vtc/)
VirtualCoin (https://www.minep.it/pool/vc/)

We had a few issues with orphan blocks but after a lot of investigation we're hoping we've found the solution to this. We noticed the PotCoin daemon we were running was sending/receiving insane amounts of data over the network blocking other coins from sending notifications when we'd found new blocks.

We have to apologize to those miners who have used our pools but missed out on a few coins that probably should have been valid, but because of the above problem, ended up as orphans.

On the positive side, we've got some exciting new features in the works and will bring more news about those as soon as we can.

Hope to see more of you mining at MinePit over the coming days/weeks/months/years! Feel free to jump in to the chatroom on the site while you're mining :)

Thanks
MinePit Team

UPDATE: Due to the problem we were having with orphaned blocks we've had to temporarily shut down all the pools. We are moving to new hosting as we now believe that is the issue. We hope to have everything running again within the day. Apologies for any inconvenience.

We're back online now. Adding pools back in one by one but hopefully the orphan problem is now full resolved.

Hope to see our miners jumping back in again :)

That was quite some ride...  More than two days to find the first block, and then second pretty much immediately after the first.  Only fits that the largest miner also managed to fin the first prize in the first drawing.  I'll keep mining! (and yes, that was my miner, thank you very much).

Haha, it was a crazy few minutes - third block came a short while after that too!

Congrats to you and all the other winners in the first 2 draws.

There's still 600k DOGE to give away in the next 3 draws so plenty of time to get in on the action :)

Can you add POT pool please?

To be honest - we've had lots of problems with POT. We had it originally but it seems to hog the network bandwidth.
I think we'll have to revisit this shortly and perhaps add it to a server on it's own so it can hog as much as it wants!

In other updates:

We've added IRC chat to the site. Chat while you mine, wait for coin launches, have any support issues etc. We'll be online as often as possible to help out with any queries but hopefully it will help us grow into more of a community too. We're going to be adding more new features to this area of the site too such as games and Exchange tools. Such excite.

We found our 4th Doge block - one more until the next prize draw!

We're preparing the EON (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=573459.0) coin pool for launch in just over 1.5 hours from now.

Hi all.

We're looking to accumulate some miners on our bespoke pool over at https://www.minep.it/pool/vtc/all-pools/ (https://www.minep.it/pool/vtc/all-pools/) by offering 0% fees on all our pools over Easter.
You can also earn MinerPoints as you mine which go towards prize draw tickets in our 1 million Dogecoin give away, and have a nice IRC chat side bar for you to waste away the hours.

I hope you'll check us out and help support a unique pool as we strive to make ourselves standout and a trust-worthy source.

Cloud Based, Load Balanced and SSL Protected Interface
DDOS Protected Pools
Bespoke and unique - no MPOS clone.
0% Fees (offer)

Thanks.

Can u add ECC ?

Will take a look into this and let you know. Thanks.

The only thing I have against the coin so far is there [still] isn't a launch date and I think the dev is deliberately being shady about it in an attempt to get some hype.

It seems to be working, 20 pages and no launch date is pretty good!

The dev said he'd give us a couple of days notice before launch so maybe he plans on announcing tomorrow that it'll be in a few days.

More than likely, he'll show us a couple more Illuminati cards showing how Obama is going to have a massive fall from grace and that some big power brokers will be behind it.

Yeah I just saw that, might have to switch to Conspiracy with half my miners and leave the other half on SYNC.

What else is launching this week? I can't remember seeing anything else (well, I'm mainly looking for X11 and POW/POS coins as I only have a small amount of hash.)

Question about end of mining for SYNC. Once block 7200  is done and we finish POW, will you be switching the stratum server off so any fail overs we have can kick in?

There are only 765 blocks to go which would put finish at 4am in the UK, really don't want to have to get up at that time!

If you're in the UK, I don't expect you to get up at 4am to switch it off though...

I have tried to email you via the support link however I just get a blank page with no confirmation the email has been sent, and to date Ive had no response from you.

Please check your PM's

In order to assist our users quicker and more efficiently we've now launched a forum on the site. This will hopefully be a place where common questions and answers can be found and will take the load off our support form (which is overwhelming at times!).

Have a look and feel free to join in the community :)

I'm experiencing the same issue mining X11 > KARM.
My workaround (for 1 coin type) is to click "Pools > (coin of choice) > Dashboard > Your Dash", it successfully displays miners, balances, shares etc.

+1 for a nice responsive UI that works very well on mobile devices.
