The PlanetDollar project’s main objective is to give everyone on the planet some amount of PDRs.  There is no IPO, no cost, and this is not an investment opportunity.  Instead, we just want to give everyone PDRs for free.  Mining does give reward coins, but mostly we encourage miners to donate their cycles to support the network and project.

The initial money supply of PDRs will track the USD, that is: roughly 1.2 Trillion in circulation.  The minimum unit of planetdollars is planetcents, or 0.01.

100% of premine are reserved to be given away.  Budget for running the coin and related services will come out of PlanetDollar foundation funds, which are either achieved through mining (like everyone else), or funded through donations (primarily from my own funds).


Two key strategies are used to achieve these goals:

1) 100% Giveaway via social network validation - Instead of using airdrop and/or maildrop methods.  Planetdollar will leverage existing social network’s authentication infrastructure to distribute coins.  We will start by using Facebook’s auth: any verified facebook user can simply go to our website, and claim their coins.  No personal information is retained, no captcha or other ads are required.  We only use the authentication services that Facebook provides.  Unlike other distribution methods that have their said drops in the future.  This auth method and send is available at launch day.  This will be expanded in the future to include other social networks: QQ, Google+ and Twitter.  

2) Mining for inflation: network support

Instead of capping the total money supply a small amount of inflation per year is created (starting with 0.03% / year, going to 1% per year).  This reward goes to the miners.  The mining rewards, instead of going down, will actually go up over time, to simulate incremental adoption of both miners and social network claimers.  The total amount of PDRs that could be created will be.. extraordinary large: imagine inflation of 1% over 4000 years.. however it will be gradually introduced into the total money supply.  Thus, the initial the premine actually turns out to be less than 1% of total coins which could be minted over 4000 years of inflation.

There’s no innovation on the coin protocol itself, except that minimum block size has been increased to 10 MB.  Innovation will instead focus on distribution and public adoption of PDRs.  The future roadmap consists of (either: from this dev team or community):

This is a great idea, Micryon. Now cryptocurrency distribution and movement can really be analyzed without so much extraneous noise.

Also I have serious reservations about the entire concept of market based distribution in general so it will be nice to be a part of a project that is looking at some exciting new concepts.

Because we know that it is in their interest to keep their users unique, and verify them.  Some ppl i know work there, have full time jobs just dealing with fake accounts, and have backend infrastructure to detect & clamp down on them on a regular basis.   Plus you'll notice to sign up these days require mobile numbers, and host of other hoops, as they tighten their grip on unique users.

I'm not sure if bitcointalk and other sites have that level of investment and infrastructure.... so would love to turn this in a forum of good ideas to go on.. I'm sure there are other great ideas out there :)

Yes.. it's a different distro method for sure.. Although somewhat counter to historic routes of money distribution (which have almost all been market based).  But, it's a new age with the internet and "out of thin air" digital creations.. so.. who knows.   It's going to be an interesting experiment anyhow.

Our goal with the PlanetDollar project will be try and get everyone access to some meaningful amount of PlanetDollars.  So make it easy to acquire, share and distribute.  Primarily leveraging the existing power of social networks (which is more or less engulfing the planet).  We just need a meaningful money supply.. but the core development will focus on applications outside of the coin protocol itself..

So an example : building integrated facebook app plugins, that allows you to access wallet, send your friends on FB coins.  Imagine you sending your friend on FB coins like you share social game status on facebook: your friend doesn't necessarily even have a wallet.  Yet when he clicks the link for the FB app, a wallet is created for him and money already deposited.. allowing him easy ability to send/receive with anyone else...  So the focus will be on building web , and mobile apps that make it easy to get access and use coins.. where there's no huge barrier for them to claim them (either monetarily or technically)

Also, I decided to change to use adaptive N-factor.  In light of the KnC ASICs that are going to be coming out (which should push GPUs out of scrypt).  I would rather we keep this coin in the hands of individual miners... at least try :)

It's non profit for our dev team, just our spare time (we've all got full time jobs where we pull in lots of Fiat $s already..)

However, we're not going to actively prevent exchanges from trading it.  If some exchange , or there's community interest to trade it.. then we're all for it.

It has to do with the risk of "change" wallet addresses, that are the result of inputs.. actually it's a pretty big issue that no one talks about.  I highly recommend using it, on the cold wallet i have keypool=1000

The premine coins will be distributed over a long time.  The goal of PDR is to distribute to everyone on the planet.. that is going to take awhile.  

Thus these coins are effectively are NOT in circulation and cannot be dumped.  As long as you trust the dev (me) to keep my word that those coins are not mass dumped or distributed via other means.. it should not matter.

In fact, the hard data is (so far):
  - Mined coins in circulation: 156,310
  - Coins claimed by facebook users: 58,114

All this will be apparent once i get block explorer up and running.

We had a super smooth launch, no forks, no missteps.. Facebook distribution method is working 100%, rock solid.  Facebook page is getting likes as well.

All in all experiment is working thus far.. now for future growth.

Through Facebook, we have a potential to reach 1 BILLION people.. compared to other efforts like AUR's reach of ~300k icelandic , and other national coins.. combined will not have this kind of reach.

In a sense, PDR is maybe not targeted to the existing crypto community, but it's goal is to reach outside of our fringe. 

Make it easier for people to access this crypto world...

The coin itself is really just the first step. 

The trick will be to developing easy, web/mobile enabled tools, so that that people outside the crypto community can enjoy it with a simple click.  That is what we are working on now..

I think it will be nice if there is somewhere (eye-catching place) to advertise and show the accumulative amount of PDR has been given away by using your unique methods!

Unfortunately less than what we had hoped, the hotwallet has given out 80k coins through facebook.

We are working on some dev items, and will be doing a big marketing push once those dev items are complete.  And yeah the cumulative distribution will be part of that.

For now, due to lack of time the only advertising that's going on is FB/Google ad campaigns (all automated).

Is this being actively developed? I like the general idea, but I think you should consider bringing in some things that might be more "understandable" to the general public.

Personally, I like POS coins, as it can be related to getting interest from a bank.

Also, you should really look at the Proof-of-Transaction thing that exists in FlutterCoin... again, I liken it to rewards points on people's credit cards...

I think the plan of distribution is quite good, but trying to explain how coins are mined confuses most people, where having something POS lets them "mine" without really knowing they are doing it.

Yeah, i just thought with the distribution model (i.e. the general public) some of the concepts behind POS are more understandable from a layperson's perspective.... merge mining is neat, but not as accessible if you ask me... but then again i'm sure you have ideas on the coin, i just stumbled across it and thought the idea was interesting..

The major hurdle for the coin is that people worried about the trillion of premined coins. However, this is a fair way to move on.

How to give away the trillion coins is the key issue. Besides facebook, how about Twitters or faucet? ... although I know that faucet is problematic.
