While I'm young till now I really love watching Tom & Jerry and Popeye. But, the animator "Gene Deitch" is passed away on April 16, 2020 it's really sad news. But, your masterpiece will never end, I'm still can watch it now, next day, next month or even next year. Thank you has made my childhood happy.



THE beloved animator behind classic cartoons including Tom & Jerry and Popeye has passed away at the age of 95. Gene Deitch was in quarantine with his wife at the time at their residence in Prague, and posted a smiling selfie just days before his death. He was one of the creators and directors of the popular animated series Tom & Jerry.

A cause of death has not yet been revealed, though at least one family member has claimed the animator's passing was not caused by COVID-19. Eugene Merril Deitch was born in Chicago in 1924, but moved out to Los Angeles soon after, where he attended school. Upon graduating from Los Angeles High School, he began drawing blueprints for North American Aviation. Gene worked a variety of jobs over the next decade before taking an apprenticeship at United Productions of America. He was 31 at the time, but soon found himself leading the creative team for the Terrytoons brand. At the same time he also had a daily comic strip for the character Terr'ble Thompson. Then, in 1958, Gene was nominated for an Academy Award for his animated short film Sidney's Family Tree.....

We never got Tom & Jerry when I was growing up in rural Alberta.  I always saw it on the TVs of friends I visited in the city.  Too much violence for today's TV though.

This is a very sad News,I have been watching Popeye and Tom & Jerry since i was a Kid,and this is the first cartoons that i come to familiarize if my memory serves me well.

Farewell to the best cartoon creator had ever lived,Memories of childhood will always remain with His name and creation.

It is sad news because Tom & Jerry is one of the movies that I often watch in the old time. That movie makes me and my brother and sister laugh without stop.

I hope someone can continue what he did so Tom & Jerry can get still beside us.

Tom and Jerry will miss him the most.

He may not be remembered by most of us but his cartoon character will be remembered forever, even I never knew until this time that who was the creator of Tom and Jerry.

When I was young, I don't care about the creators and whoever made the cartoons that I'm watching.

But when I grow older, I used to appreciate the people behind these masterpieces and how they've worked hard for it.

Itchy & Scratchy inside the Simpsons is a parody of Tom & Jerry, it adds the gore that would naturally occur from such violence, its like a honest version of it.

I did grew up watching endless re-runs of Tom & Jerry, I think one doesn't stop to think too much about it when one is so young. Its like watching some action movie, plot doesn't matter.

The TV is obsolete, everything is streamed on demand now. Back then you had no choice or say in the matter, and i seem to recall it was like half to one hour daily and that was it. Today you could marathon them all nonstop if you wanted.

Like it or not the world is different. He had a good run, 96 years is no joke. His works reached audiences all over the world.

If you ever saw a video game console called "Nintendo", you might think it came with Super Mario Bros. Actually that was the late US release, the original console in Japan came with: Popeye (a flawless port from the Arcade). So the Japanese kids got an American character while the American kids got a Japanese character...

NANI?? Sorry for the sudden reaction, but not watching TnJ during childhood is like a Brit growing up without watching Monty Python.

Nevertheless, its understandable since we all grew up through different upbringings. If you have the time, go on an episode binge. It's slapstick comedy gold. :D
