Title: [JOKE NEWS] Ripple lambasts Bitcoin and Eth, showcases XRP as most eco-friendly
Post by: bbc.reporter on April 25, 2020, 03:29:00 AM
However, what the Ripple commemorative report was not telling everyone is that their Ripple platform is centralized and from the point of view of developers who are trying to create decentralized coin solutions, the XRP tokens are useless in such a centralized platform.

Also, why this commemorative report? I speculate a pump arriving hehehehe.

Ripple published a commemorative report about the Earth Day anniversary, briefly explaining the sustainability of various currencies and their environmental impacts, showcasing XRP as the most eco-friendly.

Focusing on the two most widely adopted cryptos, Bitcoin and Ethereum, Ripple noted that PoW mining —the process of adding transaction records to the general ledger called the Blockchain— is required for extraction, which carries high energy and electricity consumption; “the cost of producing one coin could power almost four U.S. homes for a day”.

Ripple noted that unlike other currencies, XRP does not need that massive amount of energy to circulate so it can be “one of the most sustainable forms of currency available”.

I believe the CEO of ripple was joking when they made such presentation. Ripple has been down since 2018 and still struggling to recover and here talking about more eco-friendly. Good that he talk well of cryptocurrency as a better alternative to paper money and coins but vilifying BTC and ETH to sell XRP is absurd and I believe the audience already know who was lying.

Eco-friendly? We don't want a eco-friendly coin.
We want and we need a people-friendly coin. Know what that coin is? Bitcoin and only bitcoin.

Probably Visa is "eco-friendly" as well.

@bitmover. Need a people friendly coin might not also be the correct way of thinking. It also appears that many people in the cryptospace have not understood why bitcoin security should be costly.

Well, that's the motivation behind satoshi nakamoto and the whole cypherpunk /cryptoanarchy movement.

If you take a look at Bitcoin Whitepaper, the first reference is Wei Dai Bmoney, which begins with:

I am fascinated by Tim May's crypto-anarchy. Unlike the communities traditionally associated with the word "anarchy", in a crypto-anarchy the government is not temporarily destroyed but permanently forbidden and permanently unnecessary. It's a community where the threat of violence is impotent because violence is impossible, and violence is impossible because its participants cannot be linked to their true names or physical locations.

If that's not people friendly coin, I don't know what it is then.

LoL, you know what is more eco-friendly? My SQL-database stored on a shared server. It's a shame that XRP keeps preying for newbies.

But I confess, I use XRP frequently to move my fund from one exchange to another exchange.

That was a shallow joke, by no other than the Ripple CEO itself. But cryptocurrency mining has indeed used a lot of energy then what? for me it was the part of the economics, Manufacturer builds mining machines, and Miners buys it, to mine cryptocurrency then sell those cryptocurrencies to pay those electricity bills and all were part of the cycle in the crypto industry. My suggestion is instead of using electricity from fossil fuel power plants why not use electricity from renewable energy sources if possible.

I reckon that is a libertarian idea. It has some weak assumptions on what the world might be under anarchy and also has too much assumptions that it is only government that causes all the violence.

In any case, I know what you are telling me. I would not use the term people friendly, however.

Government is the only legitimate source of violence. There is a theory about it by Weber. It is not a weak assumption, although it may be controversial.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopoly_on_violence

Quote
In other words, Weber describes the state as any organization that succeeds in holding the exclusive right to use, threaten, or authorize physical force against residents of its territory. Such a monopoly, according to Weber, must occur via a process of legitimation.

Government has the monopoly on the legitimated use of physical force. You cannot  fight this idea, it is a fact.

Ofc it is not the only source of violence...

Bitcoin used to be a currency which only tech guys and libertarians cared about. After the bull run, leftists and state lovers began to use it, usually seeking for money, and don't care about it ideology anymore... Then people started crying about energy costs and so on, which are not bitcoin principles, objectives, purposes or concerns of it. And shouldn't be.

@bitmover. However, eliminating the government will not eliminate the violence and exploitation of good people. It is similar to the people of the cryptospace crying for freedom from government but calling on the SEC if they see an ICO they do not like hehehehe.
