Title: Top reporters!
Post by: snipie on April 29, 2020, 01:24:16 PM
Hi theymos, can you update the top reporters table, it was long time since you did so tho.
I know this will not be considered probably but maybe top reporters by section too?
And what about the snitch badge? :P
Thanks :)

Here are the top 50 reporters by total good reports.

Thanks to everyone who reports! Even one good report is helpful. But massive thanks to those in this list: without you, moderation would be basically impossible.

Although most people in this list have very high accuracies, in general there's no need to worry about accuracy too much.

The snitch badge turned out to be "a can of worms (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4742257.msg49490704#msg49490704)". I made it to 5000+ a while ago, but now I'm no longer reporting hundreds of posts per month. As long as I stay away from the altcoin boards, spam isn't that bad.

I missed / forgot that post from theymos, i no longer remember. Thanks Loyce for pointing it out and let's say that a yearly update from theymos is welcome ;)

Would be nice and intresting to see a overworked list and how the reports have changed and some updates with new reporters!
And if there is chance to add it and that is possible for Vod  i guess he can implement it to Bpip so theymos dont have to update the list in the future.
Just an idea if that is possible , would be great for the statisic fans.

This is the latest stats you can find in the forum.↓
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5170441.0
I also was trying to get some fresh data but nothing until now.
I passed 5000 a few months ago, but these days my life is busy with different (and more important) things. I'll be bsck on the spam front soon :)

Quote
Let it be anonymous, just give us the numbers of those between 1 and 300 reports, those with reports from 300 to 1000, from 1000 to 2000, 2k to 3k, 3k to 5k and above 5k, or something like this.

Counts of members with good reports in the last year:

1-10: 5028
10-25: 399
25-50: 179
50-100: 82
100-200: 90
300-400: 35
400-500: 14
500-750: 20
750-1000: 12
1000-1500: 15
1500-2000: 7
2000-3000: 5
3000-5000: 5
>5000: 8

Thanks to all reporters; we couldn't do it without you!

I'm just on my way to 3k and has been a casual reporter since the implementation of bumping system, I mostly report the one on Altcoin Announcement way back but since it changed I casually do it. Well, I think even if a list is laid out I doubt I can make it compared to those who have thousands of reports made, let's see. Hoping theymos drop by here.

Because you brought it back, I would like to bring the badge report back to life. Around 2 years ago, Seeking reporter badge images (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4742257.0). I know theymos stated that he does not want to make a rainbow user badges on the forum so it is certainly not his priority.
Now, we have some kind of badges: Admin, moderators, bitcoin developers, donators/VIPs, and artists (only 5 or 10 artists in the Art contest).

Same here, except that I haven't broken the 5k mark (but I'm pretty close I think).  After all the reporting that everyone's done, sections like the altcoin ones are still a complete mess, so I figured I'd stop wasting my time reporting posts that were only a drop in the bucket even if the reports were acted on.

I was never that enthusiastic about Theymos creating a reporter badge, and I've seen much better suggestions that I wish he'd implement--but he apparently doesn't like making many changes, even cosmetic ones.

You have reported 222 posts with 95% accuracy (142 good, 8 bad, 72 unhandled). Do not worry about your accuracy too much; one accurate report is worth many inaccurate reports.

I'm just wondering why so many reported posts continue to remain "unhandled"??

I mean no disrespect asking this (and I certainly offer no offence either) but I'm curious why you would ask this of yourself:

I would like my name removed if a new list is posted.

What about BPIP.org ?? Would you like your profile details (https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?id=507856) removed from there too?

I don't think your accuracy matters when you are reporting.

I am pretty sure you might have read the instruction line while reporting any thread which says :

The thing is at least you are taking an effort to report to moderators. For that matter 87% is amazing. No one will ban you for that.

From my own experience: reports in Meta often remain unhandled. Clear spam is quickly removed.
And once in a while a report is marked bad, I think my last bad report was a post that I thought was off-topic in Services.

You'll need to have 300+ good reports to see the result of your reports in the last 30 days.

That's quite a few unhandled reports. Unless those are new, they might stay like that for quite some time. Here is the explanation from post history, veru useful feature that you will get after reaching 300 good reports (something that would be very helpful to have from the beginning).

Quote
Reports start out unhandled, and are then either marked good, marked bad, or no moderator ever handles them and they stay unhandled. When a report stays unhandled, this does not mean that no moderators were available to look at it; rather, it means that several moderators looked at it, but none of them was sure whether it should be acted upon or not. A report that stays unhandled can be thought of as "soft-bad", since no moderator positively thought that it warranted action.

I'm guessing that they are on the reporting page itself?  I'll have to get cracking reporting more posts then. ;)

...

Hi and yes, quite a few of the unhandled ones are fairly new, but are identical to the ones that were acted upon, so it's hard to say whether the person doing the reviews just ran out of time, or something else.

Meh, the more you report, the more you will collect unhandled reports. If they aren't handled within a week or two, then they will never be handled, and will be on your statistics forever. I have more than double that unhandled - I suspect most of them are from me being a bit harsh on what I am reporting as "spam" and moderators being a bit more lenient. If you are getting hundreds and hundreds unhandled then it suggests you are reporting things incorrectly, but other than that they are not worth worrying about.

I'm guessing that they are on the reporting page itself?

Why? It shows you're a good little soldier.

I report plenty of things but only gibberish shitpots, necro shitposts, google translate shitposts, shitty shitposts or blatant scams.

It would be interesting to hear from mods as to how many reports are down to some sort of beef between members rather than straightforward moronic piss taking.

When a post is deleted, reports for it will sometimes stay in unhandled status for some time before moving to handled status. It'll be interesting to read what some of the "soft-bad" posts are.  ::)

Up to 3% you could be erring, due to the ceil function of the accuracy rating.

I want to say that most "bad" reports are due to duplicates, unhandled ones (surrounding spam) are in relevance to "sort-of on-topic" posts, which merely pass or rest on the edge of substance.

The quote was from 2016. And even with new data, you're just outside of the top 50:

The list in my first post, which contains the names, was quoted from theymos post ~4 years ago, ~3 years before your registration  ;)
Iasenko has quoted a newer list, without names, posted ~1 year ago, which I found sufficient but not interesting.
BTW I don't see why someone would like to hide his name for something that should be proud of it but personally I respect his wish.

Title: Re: Top reporters!

Reports may be left unhandled recently due to events happening in real life with current events. I know I've been somewhat inactive handling reports (I have a 100+ backlog right now), and other moderators have stepped in, but I'm assuming several other staff users are in similar situations, and have reduced activity on the forum as a result. However, we will get onto them eventually. Reports don't seem to disappear if left for a couple of days, and therefore a unhandled report may be handled several days after the fact. Also, unhandled reports doesn't mean it hasn't been seen that just may be the most appropriate action to take on it.

As for the reporting statistics, it would be nice to see an updated list. I know I've had my ass handed to me in the reporting statistics now, and I estimate there's at least 3 other users with 50k, and above. For the very little I do report these days, they are usually handled within an hour or so.

Good, bad, unhandled and somehow "classified" (no action taken which is usually the case), of course adding such thing will just put more unnecessary pressure on staff. Just said something come to my mind and realised its consequences while writing!

That could explain why mods are suddenly marking everything "bad" Vs a week ago the exact same style posts were being marked "good"  ::)

Ok seriously reporting? and deleting a "bump" posted once in this topic, few days ago, without posting any other bump after it!
Do i miss something here? Did i broke any rule to get my "bump" post deleted?
BTW I didn't consider bumping this topic anymore after i posted my bump several days ago since I am pretty sure theymos is aware of it. However this post bumped it, unfortunately, so report this post maybe too? Thanks.

maybe your "bump" has response (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5244510.msg54408040#msg54408040), then it's not necessary still standing. this my assume and I don't report.
