Title: Biggest bitcoin "giveaway" scam I've ever seen...
Post by: BlackHatCoiner on May 12, 2020, 03:48:57 PM
Everything started when I received a message from a bot of discord:

I registered at tradefry.com and when I received the "0.69"BTC on my account I tried to withdraw:

I hope no one will deposit that 0.02BTC...

Don't believe with those giveaway bots. They'll steal your money if you don't take caution and thank you for posting this so that the newer members will be aware of this.
That's the scam they do, they'll show you have the amount but then asks for a deposit which is the amount that they will scam and steal to you.

Lol! You have still hideen the code from the picture!! Do you believe you would ever get that money in reality? That's a very typical scam and I have already received around 6 of them. If these were true, I would have won more than 3 bitcoins till date! Never ever register to such websites, they also hack passwords!

0.02 BTC is quite tempting for getting a chance to get those 0.67. What a nice way to manipulate our gambling nature

I hope you used fake data during registration because anything legit is spam-worthy for them.

This scam isn't something new. I remember people posting about "casinos" that gave free coins when joining them. They were spamming everywhere. From this forum till discords and social media websites. Once they join the casino. They claim the codes. In order to withdraw the funds, they will have to wager 1x the amount. As soon as you place the bet, you get really "lucky" and you win a lot of money. But, when you try to withdraw those money, guess what? You will have to make a small "deposit" lol.
Such a sad attempt to scam people.

I made several accounts and got the .69 BTC each time. Yes the .02 fee is there to pay the gas. Easiest money I made in my life! I profited 4 Bitcoins with this giveway.

While that sounds scammy, it actually isn't. In fact, I've played on multiple casinos that rely on this model to attract new players.

Sure, deposit measures are implemented to prevent no-deposit abuses but once you meet the requirements, you're free to withdraw after that.

Boils down to due diligence.

Can you elaborate "no deposit abuse"? I mean, if they are giving away free coins, why would you have to make a deposit? How does depositing helps you to prevent people from abusing this promotion? Users can simply still abuse it by making multiple accounts. Playing for a while. Making a small deposit and withdrawing it. You see, depositing isn't stopping them from anything.

Bitcoin isn't gambling, that's why many people get scammed like this, if 0.02 btc is alluring to receive back 0.67, why can't those in charge of the giveaway(scammers)just give out the 0.67 outrightly, since the person has already won the giveaway price.

For someone who doesn't even know a thing about bitcoin, this pattern should be easy to detect, because it can also be applicable to fiat money; if I tell you you have won 1000usd, but you have to send 100usd to claim it, I can vouch that no one will believe this; but when it's BTC involved, they fall because they think it's a money-grabbing network.

I doubt it. They'll giving you away free coins to play into their casino and right after you won huge amount and trying to withdraw your winnings, they suddenly would asked you to make a deposit first for the withdrawal to be process. How's that sound?

Withdrawal worth more than 30x to what they asking you to make a minimum deposit first.

I was about to call you a part of that scam lol haha but then I see the JK below.

I've also seen this earlier, it attracted me coz it is a giveaway then I saw the deposit first word, no need to ring any bells, that was a pure scam. They are fishing typically, they can't get big fishes with a thin nylon and small hook, they should have thought of this. We don't have any complaints against it, so anyone here who wants to try this? JK  ;D

Hi, from personal experience I advise you never to believe the flattery of both discord and telegram bots, 99% are scams at the start, but there are still legitimate giveaways, the difficult thing is to find them.

This is the most famous and most primitive scheme. Nigerian letters, but only in the field of cryptocurrencies.
I don’t even know who else can seriously expect that he will just get something. But apparently, the mind takes people the opportunity to get free money.

I registered at tradefry.com and when I received the "0.69"BTC on my account I tried to withdraw:
The amount of reward obtained is "0.69" BTC. This number is not small and you still believe in a scam like this?
Logically, which GA would give a gift of more than 0.5 BTC? They are crazy. There is no such good party, LOL.
Of course, the number of gifts received was already very suspicious. Do you still do tempted to do it too? This is not a new way of scam, this is the old way of giving super lucrative gifts in an easy and instant way. So, never believe in this kind of old scam.

And here is their point:
https://i.imgur.com/96qC10j.png

They will ask you to deposit that many amounts of BTC and you still do it? So suspicious!
NEVER BELIEVE on GA that order you to deposit first, whatever, and however the amount of the reward.
They may not only want to steal your money but also your personal data.

Please don't be tempted with this kind of strategy. That's an old tactic actually. at first glance, i know where this is heading already. if it is too good to be true, expect it is a scam. no one will just give you that amount without anything in return. so for those who want to deposit that amount, please don't even try...

I made several accounts and got the .69 BTC each time. Yes the .02 fee is there to pay the gas. Easiest money I made in my life! I profited 4 Bitcoins with this giveway.

that's right. usually, how cafetools responded is the typical shilling account for this scam minus the JK of course.

It is the typical scam in Discord, if you join a crypto group you get hundreds of these messages, some variants ask for access to your wallet, your documents, etc.

Someone should be crazy to send the password or a document to these scammers.

A classic fake-giveaway scam. We have been tracking this kind of theme attacks for many months now, you can refer to @dkbit98 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1410401) thread, [SCAM] Avrobit exchange (and all yellow clones) Alert (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5209679.0).

To test out the site before you commit. Like those free samples you try from shopping malls, the same concept applies. If you like it, you stay. Else, move on.

For instance, you create multiple accounts using the same referral code. So let's say it's 10 accounts and each refcode gives out 50 cents, then that makes the total $5.

So you just decide to go all-in in roulette. Out of the 10 accounts, you won the bet on 5 accounts. So you still remain with $5 (five successful 50 cents bets). Then you withdraw. If there's no deposit measures in place, the casino would lose $5 because someone managed to create duplicates just to withdraw the "free" money.

This is just one scenario how these kind of things could be abused by one, let alone by many.

But then with the wager thingy, you must fulfil a quota bet first. So it's not solely depositing and then withdrawing the extra, the requirements are still prevalent.

Users can simply still abuse it by making multiple accounts. Playing for a while. Making a small deposit and withdrawing it. You see, depositing isn't stopping them from anything.

Of course, then there's the house edge. Some will be lucky enough to withdraw, then continue playing since they feel confident while others rip. Then the former will eventually lose to the house edge. Tadaa.

Casinos will take (small) short-term losses for long-term gains.

Of course there are shady ones which won't inform you beforehand. But before you start making those bets, try to make a withdrawal and the terms will usually appear. Alternatively, check the TOS/ FAQ. Here's one from the casino I play on; it clearly states a new user has to make a 1,000 coins (~$0.60) deposit and bet twice that amount.

https://i.ibb.co/cyBWPR8/gd.png

Some instate levels restrictions, others like Stake incur a 5K Sat fee to withdraw with no minimum. Since I've played on multiple casinos, I can attest there are legit ones, and not every "deposit first to withdraw" are out to scam your money.

In the end, always check the reviews before you start playing with a free coins code. Worst case scenario, you'd just waste your time.

And yes, the 30x is indeed true to some. I wouldn't recommend playing on those but that's the restriction if you don't make a single deposit (would be more lax once you do). If you're cautious, play safe; few cents bets on BlackJack, on Plinko, etc...

Exactly. We have almost 40 domains reported there with these fake (cloned) exchanges. Almost all domains are already dead but I see new ones still popping up.
This is just another one in a series and I hope no one will fall for such scams.

This kind of scam activities is widespread these days and by looking at the site provided by OP and the one @dkbit98 thread the site looks almost the same. Besides, i think the scam activities was done by the same group of people.
People need to be careful of fake giveaways done by crypto scammer.

Yes, guaranteed that the behind people this scam are the same. And we really don't think initially that the list will grow like this one. But I guess those cyber criminals are not going to stop, we just temporarily halted their operations. But we're going to exposed them here in this community to give warning especially to newbies not to fall for this trick.

If its too good to be true stay away from it, this type of scam reminds me of a sports betting site with similar scheme. Giving you a big sign-up bonus but before you can withdraw that amount they will ask you to deposit a certain amount which was too high. I believe there are still innocent people fall from this scheme, most probably new in crypto.

This is the most used scam at the moment. Creating a giveaway website will give people a huge prize, but when someone goes to withdraw, they are asked to send some funds. And those who are greedy and send the fund will never get it back. Scammers not only create fake giveaway websites but they also create fake exchanges. And in the same way they ask to send funds. Already, I have expose lot of fake exchanges. Everyone should be wary of such scams, especially newbies.
