Post by: LapwingBTC on May 14, 2020, 02:01:35 AM
Hi all,

In my possesion I have a wallet.dat that I have tried to brute-force with hascat, jonh the ripper and btcrecover for more than 10 months the final result is null, I would like to know if you have information to share or additional help.

Any proposal is good.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

Stop paying for uncrackable password protected wallet.dat files.  Best advice.
Also, this is the wrong section for such a post.

If the password is simple and you know any part of it, you can contact ---> https://walletrecoveryservices.com/
Check them ANN page here ---> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=240779.msg2551833#msg2551833
Read about trusting them -----> https://walletrecoveryservices.com/limited/

But are you sure that the file is encrypted with a password? AFAIK encryption happened at 2011 --------> https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/6b8a5ab622e5c9386c872036646bf94da983b190/doc/README

try this if your file from 2010 ----> https://github.com/jackjack-jj/pywallet

Basically, your only option is to try and bruteforce it... or engage the services of someone else to bruteforce. There is no "magic bullet" that will allow you to access your funds. If you haven't been able to bruteforce the password in the last 10 months, then there is a good chance that the Hashcat mask(s) you've been using is/are no good.

Can you please share here what hashcat settings you have tried?

If you generated a password it's likely that it's too long/complex to brute force.

E-Mail me the wallet is from 2010

Something doesn't add up, it should be from (late) 2011 at the earliest, as that when Bitcoin (0.4.0) was release with the wallet encryption feature.

Of course it doesn't add up.  These password protected wallets are for sale online (I believe there are people on here buying, selling and trading them) and I don't believe anyone coming out now in 2020 saying that they have been trying to brute force a 10 year old wallet for only the last 9 months is telling the truth.  The wallet was worth twice as much ~ 30 months ago but OP waited until recently to brute force the wallet he says he owns.  GTFO.

The wallets are sold on this forum, and you are right, the wallet mentioned by op is stolen/purchased or forged.
