Title: A new survey shows that UKs gambling addiction is getting worst day by day.
Post by: Juggy777 on May 19, 2020, 10:14:35 AM
GambleAware charity in association with Yougov conducted a survey which revealed shocking information, that around 1.4 million gamblers (UK citizens) were facing problems with their gambling addiction.

It’s also worth mentioning that the report further claims that around 3.6 million people were effected due to someone’s else gambling problem, though I don’t understand how would they be effected by someone’s else gambling problems?.

Lastly many experts have downplayed those numbers quoted in the survey, but they have acknowledged the truth that addicted gamblers are not getting the help they require to cure themselves, and since we’re a community I feel that we should try and help these gamblers as, and when we find out about their gambling addiction.

Its my first time to hear up that someone get addicted when they do tried out to help someone's addiction problem. So this mean that they do accompany them with their gambling habits? or just trying to look after while they do play and thats the time that they have create that gambling motives instead on going to help that fella. Its just dumb that you do easily let yourself fall to the pit since youre the one that tries to help
which means that you are fully aware on gambling addiction effects thats why im bit confused nor shocked in this kind of reasoning.

The only way I think it's possible to help someone get over their gambling addiction is through advising such person on why they need to stop gambling, and the risks they may face if they do not; I don't think there is anything else that can be done, but more often, they hardly can take this advice and as long as they have money in their pockets, they go on to gamble with it.

Imo curtailing gambling addiction rests on the gambler, it's a personal decision they must take on their own, most times maybe after a huge loss, it could just lead to their self realization that if they don't slow down they may lose something more valuable in the future.

You don't understand?Really?
If a family member has a gambling addiction, the budget of that family/household will be damaged a lot.
Addicted gamblers can get into debt pretty fast and if one member of the family has debt, that debt becomes a problem for the entire family,in one way or another.
I was expecting the quarantine/lockdowns to trigger some sort of increase of people's addictions.
Many gamblers use their addiction as a form of "escapism"-running away from the problems and from the stressful situation that is happening around the world.

I'm not sure that only giving advice could help. Gambling addiction is in medical way equal to.any other addiction and such person needs professional help. Friends and family can be a support but in most cases that will not be enough, unless maybe in some early stage. Also, similar like an addict, family very rare recgonizes addiction symptoms until it's too late.
Big loss of money might be powerful trigger to admit the problem and addiction, however for some even that isn't a wake up call.

If you’re affected by someone’s behavior because of gambling, then better to stay away or help that guy to get himself out of trap because if you don’t help them at least on a simple way they’ll ended up totally broke.
The difficult thing is, most of them don't understand nor appreciate the advices and care given to them, they just don't give an attention to their well-being and financial status in life.

I'm not sure that only giving advice could help. Gambling addiction is in medical way equal to.any other addiction and such person needs professional help.
This is to complement the my first reply. If a family member cannot control the addiction of their love one, it would be better to seek professional help. There are website actually that offer free consultations.

It's worsening because it's not the proper way of treating gambling addiction. Gambling addicts are being forced to stop gambling even though they don't want to. It triggers their desire to gamble even more, and it can also result in violating the rules about gambling if it's prohibited in the UK as of the moment. Instead of taking the treatment slowly, the situation makes it hard for them to adjust. Just like in my country, we have been in quarantine for 2 months, and gambling addicts suddenly have to stop gambling for 2 months and it's hard for them to make an adjustment.

A gambling addict can highly affect the people around him because an addict's problem also becomes their problem as well, especially if it's their family member.

Addiction of any kind is bad. I am little surprised with the numbers though. If 1.4 million people in UK are addicted gamblers, then what is the total number of gamblers in UK? Remember, the population of UK is 66 million only! Just wondering, if 1% population of a country is gambling addict then what would be ther percentage of total gamblers!

Not giving attention to their kids is just one problem gambling addiction can do. A person won't mind as long as he enjoys. He can only be aware he had already ruined lives when they are already addicted.

It would get worse if gambling is allowed by government. Their government could just help them stop gambling addiction if they make gambling illegal. Illegal in all places except probably to some place just so they can control a bit. They can't stop people from gambling but at least the law states its illegal and anyone caught can be penalized.

I don't know actually what kinda cure you are talking about. Gamblers can only keep them far from gambling by their own but as far as i know its not an easy task for them to quit gambling for ever. Recently in my country before the pandemic got an surprising news on media that father killed his wife and daughter just because of gambling related frustration. After killing his family members he got arrested and confess that he did all because of having massive amount of debt. Law enforcement agency got so many online casino accounts of that killer and he spent nearly 1.5$ million on several gambling platform just in last 6 month. He took a lot of money from almost all his relatives and friends but wasn't able to pay back

After reading this news i was quite shocked and share with some of my friends who are slightly addicted on online & offline gambling. Among them just only 2 of my friends keep them far for a short time but currently they are doing the same thing. I know they are not heavily addicted but day by day they will. So in a situation like this actually you can't do nothing more just giving advises or suggestion. I know if i push them hard then our friendship will get hurted but i think its my responsibility to make them aware before they cross all limits.

Most alarming thing is that excessive amount of gambling addiction will not only ruin his own life but his family will also suffer for him.

The fact that this association can conduct a survey on their own, then it means they do have some tools or things to determined who are these gamblers involved.

Why not they are the ones to pursue these gamblers to be cured? They can start from looking at these gambler's profile then ask their family about it. They can work with those gambling rehabilitation center. Just for a start.

Lastly many experts have downplayed those numbers quoted in the survey, but they have acknowledged the truth that addicted gamblers are not getting the help they require to cure themselves, and since we’re a community I feel that we should try and help these gamblers as, and when we find out about their gambling addiction.

That thing is quite was out of our hands. The only ones we can save are those we know in real life since we can determine where to start. We aren't in the first place to just say to random people that they need to stop since we don't know their background and that's their own decision and own money. That was really a tough job.

This is the hard part because no matter how hard you do try to help these addicted persons, majority of them will surely just neglect it out and would continue into the things that they've been doing and since they are
already addicted then there would only be one thing to be into their minds which is to play no matter what would happen ahead.

I believe that this isnt only happening on UK but in some countries around the globe where gambling addiction becomes already a problem.Back on the topic and as i read up that addicts didnt get any assistance or help from others to cure up themselves but come to think that the cure is in to their minds which should really be minding off first and if its ineffective then thats the time to seek out for professional help.

Your loved ones would be the primary and next would institutions or some sort.

Well the UK has tens of millions of people stuck at home as a result of the COVID19 pandemic.

The vast majority of people are incapable of entertaining themselves or spending their time productively, so they go for low hanging fruit sources of entertainment, including TV, arguing with the spouse and gambling.

There's going to be a new wave of people that bettered themselves during the pandemic, and a new wave of people that spiraled into an even worse state.

People can't control themselves, and COVID19 is obviously making it worse.

Sadly there's not much intervention can do on the large percentage of that number. Only a big and blunt hit on the gambler's head would cause him to change his/her ways for good. Even then, the addict might pose some severe gambling withdrawal symptoms which will make it harder for the addict to recover--but it is doable if there is continuous support and if the addict really is decided to leave their old ways. The number on UK is surprisingly low considering the fact that there are tons of bookies in the country and laws regarding gambling isn't strict. Though that's the case, I expect the number to rise as quarantines are still enforced and people are still forced to stay at home with the current situation at hand.

A gambling addict will really change if he truly wants to.
If it is because of someone else's influence, it would be hard to change for the better.
The change should be on his own will and those people that surrounded him should support him when he finally decided to quit.
Doing so will take a lot of effort, understanding and patience. If the people around him surrender along the process, he may go back to where he was.
I believe it is not only in UK with rising gambling addiction but also with other parts of the world, now that we are still in the pandemic situation.

Gambling addiction is real and you will not understand whether you are addicted until someone finds out, even if someone advice's about the problem an addict will resist as you will have a feeling that you are under control of the situation, but if your bank balance says other wise it is better to get help rather than going down the hole.

if we talk about the impact on others, of course, it has an impact...
if a household head is addicted to gambling, it will affect household finances and if a wife is addicted to gambling it will affect children. Governments around the world have paid attention to gambling, crime rates have increased and domestic violence will increase if this is not observed.

How did they know that all 1.4 M people under survey are all gamblers "with a problem".

Are these gamblers already in the facility? It wasn't mentioned in the article.

What if some of those are responsible gamblers. I couldn't it as worst as long as these gamblers know what they are doing.

Infortunetly, this can't be observed or controlled by governments as it be becomes easier to reach with technology. See how much gambling platforms are spreading the internet, the gambling industry is one of the promised field during quarantine and without quarantine.
Gambling is an addictional behavior and may take many forms. IMO, participating in ICOs without enough knowledge is a sort of gambling, doing daily trade is also gambling, so don't focus only on those who make bets against the house.

That is a shocking result because people in the UK has a serious problem in gambling addiction. Perhaps, people who effected from someone's else about gambling problem get it by following the gambler playing in a casino. People don't realize the risk because they only follow in the first time, but sooner or later, they follow to playing gambling.

From playing with a small amount of money, they get excited inside the game, and finally, they became addicted. Yes, that people really need help from professional to cure the addicted gamblers before the number of people who have addicted become bigger.

First, before engaging in gambling, you should know the advantages and disadvantages of it in many aspects such as, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Sometimes people are misunderstanding and mistreating gambling that's why they can't control themselves every time they win or lose.

The root of all gambling addiction is when people don't practice their self-discipline and patience while playing it, that's why people are losing their money so bad and wasting it in gambling.

Sometimes you also need to consider many things in order to prevent yourself from becoming addicted to it. Seek some advice to those professionals who are already experienced when it comes to self-discipline and making money through gambling so that you will become effective and wise in any circumstances.

Gambling is not the bad guy here, just like alcohol is not. But yes, sometimes I think businesses do take advantage of players who they know cannot control themselves. I do not know how to fix it. You ban something you make it worse, that is for sure.

Most of the addicted gamblers will never accept that they are addicted to it, so without help of others it will be an impossible task to notice and identify them.I guess this is mainly due to lockdown's effect and also people trying their luck to get some money when they have no job.

But at the end of the day, addicted one have to recover from it, we can only help to to attain it.

It's not easy to help people who have been addicted to gambling, because of the risk we who want to help can be affected too.
As happened in the UK 3.6 million people were affected, this is not a small number. The best way is the UK government must help,
by making a rehabilitation place for gambling addicted. And the team to handle this addicted patient must have background in the
psychological field, so the possibility of being affected is small by gambling addicts.

Article states 2.7% of UK adults have a problem with gambling. Doesn't seem like too much? With how easy it is to gamble with online gambling beginning to be the norm, at least while COVID-19 is alive, I don't find it too surprising for gambling rates to be increasing. Sportsbetting sites are popping up out of no where and clearly they know the demand's out there because they're in business. Still though, 2.7 percent seems like a rather minuscule number. The UK goes overboard with their regulations so if gambling truly started to becoming a problem, I don't think the government would just sit idle. They'd definitely implement caps or put harsh regulations on UK based providers.

I am not sure how they help the addicts but if they don't play gambling games, they shouldn't be addicted, too. AFAIK, addiction means we do excessive play without self-control. This only happens if we play gambling games almost every day or even many times in a day. So, you may be correct if they help by accompanying the addicts. It seems a bit strange way!  ;D

I am possibly this statement means is the breadwinner of the families have some gambling addiction that affected the whole family income in some way. that's not hard to understand though when you suppose to buy that money for your daily needs and the needs of your children but instead, you use it for gambling. the result would be another 3.6 million people will also affect excluding the gambler himself. to be honest, it's not only men who are addicted but sometimes women has been addicted to, in some cases.

charity really ? i didnt knew that but i thought its only a site that helps gambling addicts but that makes them more cooler if they also act as a charity but what they are helping ? providing medecine for gamblers or creating rehab center , just like that ? or they also help other non gambling people that are in need of help  . we already know the common impact of gambling so i think they are doing surveys for other reason like knowing if the numbers of gamblers increase as well as the addicted to it

For me that still shocking news because that number can increase every day if the government can not firm action to the casino. The people can lose their control sooner or later once they lose their money too. We already see that some people cannot hold themselves from the tempting of the games, so they spend more and more money.

But perhaps, some people can still hold themselves even if they are gambling-addicted, so they don't lose control in gambling.

This issue is probably because of the lockdown, so people have more free time to play online games. The lack of outdoor exercise, work, and social activities affect us in one or many ways. When everything recovers, I'm pretty sure the number will go down.

If you really want to help those guys, a video conference where people gather and talk can be way more beneficial than money. If you give money, they will use it to play.

Addiction is a strange word, and many people abuse this word! We are all addicted to something, there's a famous sentence "find what you love and let it kill you", whatever that is. It's what addiction really is, you do something you love, but that love eats you from inside!
Any vice can provide a good experience, and good experience is what drive you back to your vice every day! What get you in the problem with any vice is overconsumption! Everything is good if you have your limits, if you know how much you can handle without any contra effects. If you do more than you handle, soon you will face with problems!
Nobody can help addicts without their wish to stop! And again if they wish to stop they will do it, if not they will think of many excuses why they are continuing with something that hurts them.

It’s also worth mentioning that the report further claims that around 3.6 million people were effected due to someone’s else gambling problem, though I don’t understand how would they be effected by someone’s else gambling problems?.
By the way, you misspelled it for affected, it has a different context. The family is most affected by it when there's someone of a problem gambler in a family since most gamblers referred to men mostly the one affected to it are the women, just my two cents.

There are many families who do not support gambling and look down on it and many give up gambling I also think they have suffered a lot They don't have enough capital to gamble, so many people are no longer gambling. That's why gambling addiction in the UK is getting worse by the day Or the effects of the virus are getting worse because the virus has a huge impact in the United States and all people are spending their days in crisis.

It's kinda vague for me how this particular gambler affected 3.6 million people? If they mean that a one successful gambler that inspire 3 million people, then I may believe it. Otherwise it said that someone's gambling problem then probably I don't really get it.

UK's government maybe can provide free medical consulations for those who have serious gambling disorder so they can resolve the problem even a bit.

Its my first time to hear up that someone get addicted when they do tried out to help someone's addiction problem. So this mean that they do accompany them with their gambling habits?
Same here, I also just heard that addiction can spread from helping addicts.  :D
It seems a bit strange way!  ;D

I just can't imagine how can this be happen in the reality, you're the one who is saving a person to overcome his gambling addiction rather than adapting it from them. For me, if you are willing to educate someone about the risk of getting addicted to gambling, you are the one who are responsible first of doing it. They should see those goods quality on you as you are helping and urging them to practice self-discipline and self-control in the midst of addiction. There are a lot of virtual games that can entertain you without even losing a single amount of money, instead of wasting real money. Once you know how to overcome addiction, you should spread it and help other people overcome it like you do, and prevent yourself from being addicted to it again.

Gambling is never a good thing to do. Addiction of gambling has render some family homeless. A friend of mine loss all his life earnings due to his reckless habit of gambling. Now he's in square one

The best way to curtail the habit of gambling is to deactivate the gambling site or change surroundings to where gambling doesn't exist. That's a personal decision for those that are eager to stop it. You can't stop gambling while you have friends that gambled also

Yes, in order to fulfill your actions by giving him the advice to avoid gambling 24/7, you should be aware of yourself that you are not addicted to gambling. It's going to be nonsense if you save someone, but you can't save yourself from addiction.

You 're the model for them, and let them see you as a positive guy, very successful because you don't have any negative behavior, so you're trying to help him rebound from the problem. Even if you don't have addiction experiences and don't know what to do, there are online solutions or ask for help from some doctors who know the mental health issue very well.

Gambling addiction is worse these days becasue of people getting stuck in their homes and they have nothing to do. They play gambling all they long and due to this it is easy for them to get addicted. I hope once the lock down is lifted, people will get back to work and they will be less busy in gambling.

Not really that much since we know that if theres no work then theres no money for you to use to gamble unless if you are already rich and do have money to spend on even on the amidst of pandemic then you would surely spent much more time on gambling since you are in the convenience of your home but this is only for those who do have money but i believe that majority would really save up
for their needs and would skip gambling for now but well, we do know that not all would consider this out because there would be people who would really do sorts of things just to gamble
and the thing where op mentions do prove that.

I think it is not only in the UK but almost in all countries, gambling is addictive and will attract many more people times to times.
Moreover in this pandemic era, probably there are many more people who are playing online gambling. As we know, online gambling is now available in many countries (although still not legalized, they cans till play sometimes). It can be accessed by many more people, with many new gamblings or games, offering interesting bonuses or jackpots and many others to attract the gamblers or even the newcomers.

Its my first time to hear up that someone get addicted when they do tried out to help someone's addiction problem.
it is like funny But it really can be if someone doesn't have strong mental or willing not to be involved in gambling. For, when he asked his friend to stop gambling and his friend told him about what he has got so far, he may be interested in that profits and start going to know about gambling. From only want to know, he is learning, and then trying to playing only "once". Then, he is attracted and play more and more because of the curiosity at first. And then, it is becoming an addiction without he is realizing.

This is just bad. I just said in the other thread that I was just tagged by my playmate at 10 years old and I've seen this. I agree that gambling addiction is getting worse, people tend to believe in things since it just look easier to win but it is not that easy, and I learned it the hard way. Even though we are under quarantine, people are still gambling, right now the quarantine here is getting lighter and lighter, who knows when will these gambling places be open since it is a long time since they bet again.

This information is really bad for the number of gambling addicts are still on a high rate due to unmanageable gaming experience. Actually, seeking help would be easy for there are many professional people that could help those that are affected by being addicted on playing gambling. It is just that the help would be efficient or effective if the gambler would also help himself out because nothing would happen if he just undergo int certain treatment but he doesn't help himself to get over playing gambling or controlling his playing to get rid of addiction.

Moral support and presence of people he trust would also be a great help on fighting gambling addiction. We must all be aware that like other cases, gambling addiction is something that we must take seriously for it is affecting not just the individual but also the people around him. The key to avoid addiction is really to control and manage your gaming for the addiction starts when you are already in no control of yourself.

It's normal to play gambling since we all do gambling already with our own life everyday. The difference is that they bet money in a form of entertainment but in reality if you would fall for the greediness because you let your emotions guide you then you will likely get addicted to these gambling games everywhere.

It is up to us people to control ourselves and make a gap of our lives to this gambling activity versus our own personal family life. Always remember that gambling is just merely for an entertainment only and don't cling to the feeling that you might win big because casinos are not design that way, it was just a temporary feeling.

You are right. When many of us now still at home and need money to survive, we don't have to play gambling because that money will be too important for us, and we don't have to use it for gamble. We'd better use that money to buy our daily needs, and keep the rest of the money for the next day, just in case, we have urgent needs that will need money. We can play gambling, but we need to make sure that we can fill our needs without a problem, and we still have money for other purposes. If we can do that, we don't have to worry if we cannot buy daily needs because that is our primary thing.

There will be plus and minus, on one side the quarantined have made newcomers came and use crypto currency to play gambling due to most gambling places are closed. They use bitcoin and maybe some altcoin to play online gambling like casinos or dice gambling. At least they will be aware of bitcoin and will use it when they play gambling. And yeah, the worst thing that will happen is many gambling addicts which can't control their habit. They will play all day long because they didn't do anything in their homes. However, in the gambling industry, there will be people who are harmed and it is up to them, they know their own situation better and he should have thought about priorities.

It's a shame people got into gambling during the coronavirus lock down... I mean a lot of people were stuck at home with a lot of time in their hands and no job, it was an unique opportunity to do something they always wanted to do (learn how to play an instrument, improve their homes, setup a new garden, etc) but they chose to waste this time in gambling...

Infortunetly, this can't be observed or controlled by governments as it be becomes easier to reach with technology. See how much gambling platforms are spreading the internet, the gambling industry is one of the promised field during quarantine and without quarantine.
Gambling is an addictional behavior and may take many forms. IMO, participating in ICOs without enough knowledge is a sort of gambling, doing daily trade is also gambling, so don't focus only on those who make bets against the house.
quarantine period makes gambling + more...
actually this is a dilemma, the government that controls the gambling of its citizens seems to lock up or spy on its citizens, citizens need privacy and security but it must be controlled too. alluding to the understanding of ICO I agree with your opinion, following the ICO without further knowledge of the target project is gambling.

There are a number of possibilities as to how gamblers affect others with their problems. First would be about money. Addicts tend to not give up even when money is gone, so they ask for loans, debts and the like, even lying to the other party about the time they'd need to pay whenever they would ask for another loan. Second would be violence. You never know, Addicts just may up and become violent to you if you refuse to give them money right? There's also an issue when the addict themselves have a family since it's easy for both 1 and 2 to happen to the partner of the addict, marking it as a terrible event.

And true to the fact that addicts aren't being helped enough. Mostly because they have no money to ask for help from famous doctors. And those free anti gambling addict campaigns are mostly just shills, they aren't really effective, either because the person hosting the event just wants attention, or just that his ability fails to go up to standards. Not blemishing their efforts though, just that, it's not enough.

I feel concerned about gambling addiction in the UK, if not taken care of immediately it will be dangerous. Because someone is a gambling addict
usually can give a bad impression on the surrounding environment. Hopefully the government in the UK provides free facilities for rehabilitation
gamblers who are already addicted. This is the fastest solution to reduce the number of gambling addicts.

The problem with other people, they spent their money to gambling thinking that they can generate more only
to realize that they'll lose it instead.
The more people who are engaging to this business the more generated money from the gambling industries.
bankers enjoy while gamblers losses more.
It's not surprising since people can't go to land base casinos they are finding venues to play and online are
easy to access.
They can play inside the comfort of their house without worrying with the pandemic virus.

When you are forced to stay at home for weeks on quarantine, with essentially nothing to do, it is no surprise that many people has taken to online gambling as their pastime. And from there it won't take long for some of them to turn into full-blown gambling addicts. As an aside, we should also expect the birth rates to soar by the end of the year (sad irony, this is going to make up for the loss of lives)

The  3.6 millions that were affected are people that are close to the addicted gamblers, mostly it's their immediate family or those who live with the addicted gambler. I think with that huge number it's already alarming, but who would be blame here, the gambling operators or those people who let themselves get addicted in gambling?

My answer only gamblers should be blame, they are not responsible so they face this serious problem, I also think they deserve some help from the government as the government are making money through taxes from these gambling businesses.

That kind of situation is really forthcoming because of this pandemic situation. It will be no surprise if a lot of them will incur heavy debt afterwards. It is up to the individual if he wants to be in a situation he doesn't want to. It is their choice, so their responsibility whatever are the consequences of their actions.

The pandemic had push people to go gambling. Those gamblers who are often to go in the casino will possibly they'll come into online and that it certainly adds to the numbers of the gamblers where they are at online gambling.
I believe that this case isn't only happening in the UK but it also happening globally at this time.
And most probably, those who do not really gamble tried their luck in online gambling during their stay at home. And since there's nothing much to do, there is a huge tendency that they'll get hooked and addicted to online gambling.

Those family members who are not gambling should always check on one another. And maybe shift their time with their phones to something more productive so that they won't be addicted in gambling and other forms of online activities because too much of something is not good at all.

There are some reasons why these addicted gamblers affect other people with their gambling addiction. One is the peer pressure. Probably one person in the group is addicted already into gambling and he introduced it to his friends. Out of curiosity, these friends tried to gamble and they got addicted into it since they see that gambling is fun. These is one of the possible reasons why many got affected into others gambling problem.

Lastly many experts have downplayed those numbers quoted in the survey, but they have acknowledged the truth that addicted gamblers are not getting the help they require to cure themselves, and since we’re a community I feel that we should try and help these gamblers as, and when we find out about their gambling addiction.
Curing gambling addiction isn't that easy to do especially if that is your habit or it is part of the daily routine of the person already.

Some of these love doing it so they can't quit on it. Some are just addicted on it that even they want to quit, their body doesn't want to and this happens to some addicted ones not only in gambling but in other vices such as liquor and cigarette addiction.

It’s also worth mentioning that the report further claims that around 3.6 million people were effected due to someone’s else gambling problem, though I don’t understand how would they be effected by someone’s else gambling problems?.
These is one of the possible reasons why many got affected into others gambling problem

It might be true among the young generation mostly

As the majority of adults have already been exposed to gambling at some stage in their lives, and if they didn't turn into addicts before, it is unlikely they are going to become such now, even if their friend or friends are going to try to reintroduce them to this activity. They may play for fun but then quickly lose interest and switch to something else. Unlike the coronavirus, gambling addiction is not that contagious

I think the same, however there is the possibility they can still affect their friends in many other ways, one of the most common is to ask them for a loan giving them the excuse they need it for food or rent and instead use that money to keep gambling, since we are talking about two people that were close to each other it is unlikely there is a writing agreement about the loan and as such it will be impossible to prove that it took place, which means the friend that lent the money most likely is never going to get it back getting affected in the process, also the addicted friend could steal from them to keep their addiction going.

I was expecting the quarantine/lockdowns to trigger some sort of increase of people's addictions.
Many gamblers use their addiction as a form of "escapism"-running away from the problems and from the stressful situation that is happening around the world.

If UK has this problem then they should set up an education campaign on how to control excessive gambling especially now that we are in a pandemic, people will now have a good reason to gamble more, they can impose on online gambling sites that operates in their country about putting a warning on excessive gambling, just like they do in cigarette and alcohol.

Not sure who to blame over here. But if the problem is this serious, certain steps can be taken. Gambling laws can be made strict. Probably they can add more tax on gambling which will eventually discourage people from gambling. Another way is to run various campaigns and make people aware of the problems created due to gambling addiction and let them know the benefits of gambling responsibly.

The figure is quite high and it may trigger a lot of financial and mental problems if this persist, they should do something about it, they can set up an advertisement campaign online and on TV, this is an additional disadvantages of the pandemic people are lock in their home with only internet and TV, we cannot stop them from playing if they like we just need to educate them and ask them to be more mature and responsible.
