Title: Any news of Coin Janitor project?
Post by: avikz on May 20, 2020, 07:21:52 PM
Does anyone have any update on the Coin Janitor project? I have sent them a number of emails to exchange various defunct coins. But never ever received a reply. Is the owner active in bitcointalk?

I see it hass now been listed in CMC as untracked listing. Any leads will be appreciated.

The CMC listing is surprising considering the team has been missing and no active developments for a long time now. It could mean the team may have somehow gotten the project back on its feet and are now ready to continue with growth. It's funny how the project got stuck though. Their promise was to get projects that have been abandoned or discontinued and build on them or continue with such projects and somehow, they themselves became an abandoned project, such irony.... Good to have them back if they are truly back.

as far as I know, the team from CoinJanitor is only active in their telegram group and it is unfortunate that this project is good even though they just bought a few tokens from a dead project, at least it helps a little.

It's indeed very surprising! But if the team really wants to get the project back on track, they should respond. I have sent not less than 12 emails with proposals to sell various dead coins but never even heard back from them. I really hope they are back. But no signs of it. I will try to get in touch with them via telegram now! Let's see what they responds.

They are active in a few channels on Twitter Discord etc but yes the Telegram (https://t.me/CoinJanitor) is still active with 40 online any time at least.

They have so far bought 4 deadcoins but want more, and are now doing a 0.01 BTC giveaway ending 31 May (they want to collect newsletter emails).

Buying dead coin is not a profitable business so they need to generate their income one way or other. It could have been a good move pre 2016 bull but as creation of coins have become much simpler and investors have been more cautious on buying new coins. People would look for real world usability when investing in an old coin.

Yep, that's true. But IMO they didn't focus for profit, it's why the price of this coin is not good (under 1$ (https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/coinjanitor)). They focus about this

Therefore, contributors should also benefit from the value that JAN tokens create for dead coin holders through the sheer force of demand and supply. Additionally, as more dead coin holders join the CoinJanitor community through the buy outs, there will be more JAN holders out there, which should create a network effect that few other projects can generate as quickly.

It could be that they are actually not fully back yet or are not yet ready to resume the project again; another reason could be that they may just have changed their contact email address, so the mails you're sending isn't actually getting to the coin janitor team.
what is their gain buying dead coins from people?
After reading their announcement posted above by jawhead999, in a nutshell they buy dead/failed coins because they feel projects don't just die off completely and with effort they'll put into resuscitating this dead or abandoned coins, they will be able to revive the project/coin and also their community. Read their Announcement (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3033541.0) to get a lucid understanding.
