Title: Sorry 4 the umpteenth cry for help: Wallet restored with the seed, but no funds
Post by: Sylar79 on May 22, 2020, 04:41:47 AM
Hi everyone,

I tried to find the info I need using the search but I know too little about the matter to really understand it... Sorry!

My really, really old laptop crashed.

I know that there was an Electrum wallet on it, so I downloaded Electrum onto a new device, chose "Standard Wallet" --> "I have a seed", entered the 12 words, and... nothing. The wallet is empty, no funds.

There wasn't much in it; I bought a tiny amount of LTC in 2017 I think, and left it alone when the value went down... nowadays it's probably worth nothing! But still I would like to know why the wallet doesn't recover it correctly.

What did I do wrong? What can I do?

I have the seed.

I have an E-Mail confirming the move into the wallet, stating the amount, the "coin address" and a "Tx id" (transaction ID?).

Does that help?

Which information should I NOT give out because it will enable someone to retrieve my coins? The seed, obviously, I got that. But what about the "coin address" and "Tx id"? Can I give it out if someone offers to help me and asks for it? Or would that be really stupid?

Thanks for your time,

Sylar

This is your problem....

Electrum is BTC only... if you had LTC, you'll need to get Electrum-LTC (https://electrum-ltc.org/)... and restore your wallet in that using your seed.

NOTE: Electrum-LTC is NOT created by the Electrum devs... it is a separate project.

Aside from the seed, you shouldn't give the addresses' private keys and your wallet's master private key if you exported it.
The wallet's master public key shouldn't be shared either even though it's impossible to generate the private keys using it.

The addresses and TXID when publicly displayed will only have privacy issues.
